    This thread is dead :p

Anyway, I just ordered Noctua NT H1 and going to repaste both CPU and GPU in a few days. The temps are okay but I believe they still can be lower.

How should I proceed? My laptop's brand tech service said they use business card method and they probably used on my laptop too which is an awful method to alot people. I was disassembled my laptop and saw that there are alot air bubbles.

I plan to use the pea or the line method. Which method give the best results? The line method on the CPU and the pea method on the GPU? Or both the pea or the line? The CPU is not exactly square, in fact it looks like rectangle. The GPU is however is more like square. I use GT70 barebone with i7 4710MQ and GTX 870M. Thanks in advance.

Pea on GPU and line on CPU :) Try it a couple of times to check if you have the paste to spare.

Sure, I will do that. I'm gonna use it mostly on my laptop. I hope I can easily clean off the old paste, it doesn't look like that it dried but can't make sure. Thanks for your answer. Will post results after applying with Noctua NT H1.

    Hello,

I have a question, does 16F4(or similiar with GTX 870/880M GPU) have thermal compound under GPU for memory cooling purposes?

    Thank you in advance,
    Errad

Paste for the core, pads for the other parts.

Hi guys. I repasted both CPU and GPU. Repasting on CPU has a great effect, lowering the temps about 4-5 celsius. I did line method on CPU. When I checked, I saw it spreaded beautifully on the die.

However, the GPU's temps become worse. I saw 90 celsius for the first time ever with my GTX 870M. It was never reaches to 88 celsius before. Besides, it heats up quicker than before. What the hell? I did what you guys said, drop little dot on GPU. Temps were higher so I did think maybe I drop little than it should be. Then opened up and repasted it with more dose. Did the pea method again. I saw 90 celsius by applying this in Watch_Dogs.

Also, everytime I remove the heatsink, I see the thermal pads won't stay in order, they twist. How can I prevent this? They also seem fragile things so I'm afraid to damage them.

Should I use the line method on GPU?

Make sure to secure the heatsink screws and make sure the fan is running normally instead of rubbing against its housing.

The fan's condition is good, it does not produce any sound of rubbing. It just spins faster due to higher temps of GPU. I fastened the heatsinks very tight. The heatsinks ensure that thermal pastes spread good on both dies on CPU and GPU but still GPU's temps are higher.

Yes, of course, but I meant thick thermal pads on back side of GPU- there is a gap between GPU memory and motherboard, it should be filled with mentioned thermal pads like on this video (1:37) for cooling purposes.
The question is, do all barebones have this compound? I would be glad if someone could check it for me, these pads should be visible without unmounting any part of cooling, only backplate needs to be unmounted.
I've bought mine 16F4 some time ago and I have kind of throttling issues, I've discovered that I do not have these pads so I asked my reseller about it and received an answer that none of barebones they received (from PCSpecialist) had these. It's strange because everything indicates(and it's logical) that these pads should be mounted. So I need to gather all information I can about this for negotiation purposes :) I wonder if there's a person who do not have these pads and do not have problems with throttling.

They are not required no and would have little if any impact on core temperatures.

It's not strictly about core temperatures, GPU is throttling with low core temperatures. I checked everything, changed thermal pads, repasted few times and on the occasion changed CPU to i5. I was also wondering if it's caused by power issues, but I used two different PSUs(original 180W and 240W) and two different batteries. I heated the cooling module with hot air to see if heatpipes transmit heat and they do. Plus I changed fan because the old one "squealed".
Also it helps when I turn on CoolerBoost so it must be a thermal issue. I was wondering if it's caused by mentioned thermal pads on back side of card, especially considering that all Dominators have these but if they are not required there must be another reason.

    What's your current version?
Press DEL to enter BIOS setup.
Then check it under system information under BIOS setup.

E1763IG6.30Y is the latest generic BIOS.
    EC is 1763EG61.517.

What type of LED keyboard do you have? Single color?

Single color blue, but i think i can't use the generic Version, because this is a medion. I need 1763EM71 ec files, no 1763IG61 files. My biosversion is E1763IM7.50v and the latest for this device, Form march 2015.

There's only channel or generic (OEM) release, and Medion BIOS/EC are most likely compiled from generic (OEM) version but it's best to check with Medion directly on this.

Hello everyone, been cruising around google looking for some info on my systems. I own two whitebook barebones laptops and I've just been trying to get them updated and possibly find unlocked bios' for them if possible. Here they are:

    MS-1756 [937-175621-006]:
Intel Core i7 Extreme 2920XM (yeah I know it's above the TDP for the heatsink)
    nVidia GTX 660M
    16GB G.Skill 1600mhz
    Win 7 Pro x64
    BIOS version: E1756IG6.10D

    MS-16F4 [937-16F454-017]:
    Intel Core i7-4700QM
    nVidia GTX770M
    16GB G.Skill 1600mhz
    Win 8.1 Pro x64
    BIOS version: E16F4IG6.706

For the life of me I can't seem to find any support on the 1756. All the threads I've found are about the MSI branded version and there's warnings all over their site about the branded BIOS's being incompatible with the whitebooks, so I'm leery of using one of those BIOS's without some kind of confirmation about what will happen.

I'm guessing the 16F4 doesn't have a lot of unlocked bios due to how new they still are, but I haven't had a whole lot of luck finding unlocked bios' for that system either.

If someone could point me at some resources, I could probably figure out modifying my own bios eventually. I've got a SPI flashing tool if I end up bricking it :p

Branded bios files are OFFICIALLY incompatible yes. Check over at tech inferno :) there can be issues with touch button and USB ports being slightly different in older models.

Can you provide a screenshot of your BIOS screen? Particularly the System Information one.
I can help you to request the BIOS and EC firmware updates for this 1756 (GE70).

Can do on the 16F4, but the 1756 is with a friend out of state at the moment. I'll get my hands on it again in about a week. I'll see if they can take a pic and send it to me tho.

    PM or post here?

I'd advise you to talk to svet over on the msi forums, he can make an unlocked bios for you for some beer money. Without the proper research it's a risky prospect.

Generic system's BIOS/EC are different than the ones on the website.
You don't want to risk bricking your system which will then cost $150+ in repairs charged by MSI.

    Hi everyone,

for anyone looking to update their cyberpowerpc fangbook lll evo hx7 models heres the updated bios and ec firmware. so grab it while its still available. after flashing this bios and ec firmware you should be plug and play ready for GTX 980m/970m cards (need MSI GTX980m/970m heatsink or modify exisiting)!!!! correct me if im wrong anyone.

flash the bios in windows or dos but flash the ec firmware in BIOS ONLY.

here i've prepared the latest offiial E1763ICP.716:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/2y67r0yg6hxtxd1/E1763ICP.716.rar?dl=1
    for flashing from dos use:
    FLASH.bat [enter]

    for flashing from windows use:
    FLASHWIN.bat

    EC Firmware:

oks, here i've uploaded the latest EC too 1763EG62.718:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/0707jeykp76hi5d/1763EG62.718.rar?dl=0

flash it from pure dos, by booting from usb key,
    then run:
    Flash.BAT [ENTER]

and do ec reset when its done:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller

REMEMBER this is only for MSI WHITEBOOK MS-1763 cyberpower fangbook

    Hi all,

Im a proud owner of one of these beasts particularily the MS - 1763 Whitebook. (Cyberpower Fangbook Evo III HX7-200)

I've enjoyed the very long read so far and it looks like im very lucky to have this machine and at the time i bought it too, the latest and final revision of the MS-1763 board namely the MS-1763 Rev. 0.C. Im running win 8.1 with all latest updates and the latest Bios and EC Firmware which also enables me to upgrade to the latest GTX 980m Graphics Card plug and play style. All the softwares and utilities work perfectly without bugs. Also my system is stock and not overclocked and i get P7300 score in 3Dmark11 for 720p benchmark (the 1080p is greyed out unless you buy the upgrade). Is this score fair for my setup which is 4810mq, GTX 870 6GB, 16GB 1600 ram and 120GB SSD for boot? I also get 50-60 frame rate on ALL ULTRA SETTINGS in BF4 with fan at 100% speed BUT NOT WITH TURBO BOOST 2 ENABLED, just using Daves GT-2od Fan Control tool and setting it to 100% as Turbo Cooler Boost 2 spins the fan even faster than that (Daves Fan Control's max is 4200RPM while Turbo Cooler Boost 2 spins the fan at 5200RPM). BF4 reaches 80 celcius CPU and 78 Celsius GPU with Daves Fan control app set to 100% and i get even lower temps with Turbo Cooler Boost 2 switched ON like 70 Celsius CPU and 68 Celcius GPU. Im soo happy that i can also add the Super Raid 2 Adapter to use 3 x Msata's as you can already get 1TB Msata SSD Drives now. Its been two years and i havent had a single problem with my machine with anything at all.

This is what i will do to this system if i upgrade anytime soon:

CPU Upgrade to : Intel® Core™ i7-4940MX Processor Extreme Edition
(8M Cache, up to 4.00 GHz)

    3 x 1TB Samsung Evo Msata SSD's

    GPU Upgrade to : GTX 980M 8GB DDR5

Maybe the screen to an IPS Panel.

    Memory Upgrade to : 32GB (8GBx4) DDR3-2133 SODIMM Memory

By using Daves latest Fan Control app i have tweaked the system so in power saving mode just browsing the web with media player playing music at 80% volume my system only draws 15 - 25 watts of electricity in total LOL and when i want to game i just switch power profile which automatically overclocks the system. However its wierd though how power profile modes control even the framerates of games etc so if you enable power saving profile your games automatically become limited to 30 FPS and you need to switch to either Gaming Mode profile or High Performance profile for the system to allow 60 FPS framerate in games.

NOTE: heres the only bug i found which isnt a big deal at all since its easily resolved. The bug is becuase of software like Daves Fan Control (Latest version), what they do is even if you select them to use the Intel IGPU instead of the Nvidia DGPU in Nvidia Control Panel the settings will not stick and the system will keep alternating between the two graphics cards Intel IGPU/ Nvidia DGPU so long as the program is still open and running. At this time you will also keep hearing the fan spin slightly fast then slow then slightly fast again. This is becuase the minimum fan spin rate for the Nvidia DGPU is faster than the minimum fan spin rate for the Intel IGPU so as the system keeps switching between the cards so does the fan speed too. This bug causes the stock temperature of the cpu and Nvidia DGPU to rise quite a bit by about 5 Celcius on both. JUST SIMPLY CLOSE THE FAN CONTROL AFTER USING IT TO DISABLE THIS BUG. Also you should see N/A under Nvidia DGPU under monitor in Dragon Gaming Centre when this bug is disabled and when its not you will see it keep switching between N/A and (Temp Reading).

Ive realised these systems are really awesome becuase not only that they are powerful but the upgradeability and stability of these systems are just too cool saving tons of money in the process.

the new MSI systems (GT72 GT80) are totally bonkers except for the dual SLI Graphics in GT80 Titans in my opinion as the CPU is no longer upgradeable (but thats for all new systems from now on from Intel) also the Graphics card slot has changed to accomodate Desktop Class VGA Cards. The Msata technology has changed to M.2 Sata technology.

Final Say: These GT70s in my opinion allow for the BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK compared to any other systems ive ever come across! LONGEVITY, PERFORMANCE, FEATURES and PRICE!

MSI YOUR AWESOME! YOU MAKE ME FEEL REALLY INTELLIGENT AND VALUABLE CHOOSING YOU! HEHEHE HAPPY DAYS!

MS - 1763 Best value 17.3" laptop ever. The ones that could get it in 2013 they still can upgrade cpu and gpu to a 980m or even 980 notebook 150w?

Well maybe not the last one but still like you said probably the best "bang for the buck" chassis ;)

ps: I don't think you can change the lcd panel as having a lvds with a 40pin connector if I'm not mistaken.

Damn! Looks like your right i need a lvds 40 pin connector 17.3" IPS panel which are non existent as IPS panels use 30 pin eDP connection. However theres still a few choices but perhaps they arent worth the upgrade e.g there are MSI compatible 17.3" panels with GLOSSY type screen, GAMUT type etc which might slighty improve the visual quality compared to the stock MATTE type screen.

Lately I turn out to like simple glossy panels, not like old or some kite books that cover the panel with another plastic cover. So maybe you can get the FHD 1080P AU B173HW01 V4 glossy. It was the one with 90% color reproduction

Hi Pat. Do you think you can make some more high Def pictures or a short video of this specific x force model?

I'll bring it up, as I've got some video reviews to do coming up. I've probably got some other models to do first, but I'd like to do a Force to MSI comparison like that. It just might be a bit.

    MSI sells barebone laptops ?
Hmm, oddly I missed that detail, all this time. Thought only Clevo really did that. Pretty smart move on MSI's part. Also explains why I have so many MSI clients, who ALSO wants CPU's and RAM and HDD/SSD's and SLi cables. (like no one ever asks for a CF cable..)

Well u would say decent prices. But the most important they don't come with any flashy red logos or stickers :)

But it's still an MSI Titan even if it has no branding on it ? (I am assuming branding is removed? Sorry just tell me more, didn't knwo they did this, pretty awesome though, makes me want one.)

..cause I mean, I have all the hardware I could want to put in there, I would essentially buy a barebones of all laptops if possible for testing etc, cause all i would need is one of each CPU and I have the graphics cards covered. XD

Yeah, MSI does have some barebones systems. Various resellers will usually sell them under their own label basically. Not sure what pricing is if you are buying them to sell, but usually the retail price would be maybe a little cheaper or about the same as an MSI branded model depending on where you get it from.

Barebones models don't have the MSI logo/branding on it, it would just have a bare lid without the MSI shield on it for example. They generally don't have the RGB steel series keyboards, but just a single color backlighting. Warranty might not be the same as what MSI offers, since it will depend on the warranty of the seller. In the case with the models we sell, we also offer them to be purchased with out an OS, where MSI would be pre-loaded on all models. But the core customization and specs would generally be the same to the MSI branded version though.
