You're absolutely right. I saw your review and it made me sure that it has aluminum palm rest as both laptops exactly the same. I also like that too. :)
You are also very correct about my working are is not properly grounded. It certainly explains why I felt some static energy. It is now properly grounded and I have zero issues. :) Thanks a lot, I love this forum.

There is, but dates are still floating around on who and when will be carrying it. Typically within a few weeks of launch.

Perhaps you can ask our MSI representative, Geno, on his thread?

I am sure it's on the way, but we just need to wait since they do not have it right now to hurt the sales of their branded product.

You can only use IG6 series since it's a barebone BIOS, latest version is E1763IG6.70Y.
And EG6 for the EC firmware, latest version is 1763EG61.514.
Email me if you are interested.

I'm also interested in this. Sadly all the websites listed in the first post currently only offer barebones MSI models with outdated GPUs (800 series or worse).

Any idea if a barebones 900 series model will be out this month? Preferably by black friday at the latest? Customizable CPU and 980M are kinda the highlights, along with triple/quad raid0 SSDs, that make this laptop so appealing to me.

If you are talking about the GT60 and GT70 barebones we are shipping both with the 970M a the moment.

Not sure about Merlok's post, but personally I want a 980M and i7 4910MQ and I'm not sure the GT60 supports this. So I assume we need to wait for a new model?

You can only do GT60/GT70 for now, but if it's GT72 barebone version no one knows MSI would release one yet.
Usually, we will have to wait awhile before such product gets released so it does not interfere with the retail version's market share.

I upgraded my GT60 with a GTX 970m. I already created a lobby for upgrades and have shown the mod that is required for the heatsink.

Also why are you spending that much on a GTX 980m when you can purchase from RJ Tech for the same card at $720.

i'm looking at purchasing a cyberpower pc fangbox evo hx7 and I noticed its based on the MSI MS-1763 barebone. I tried searching through the thread but couldn't fix anything regarding the screen. The whitebooks on that specific barebone model state the screen is CHI-MEI 72% gamut screen. Can anyone confirm this is the case? cyberpower pc said they haven't changed the screen specifically but couldn't confirm it. Also it only has 1 gpu/cpu cooler, is that a big problem?

any insight about this would be appreciated!

How can I remove HDD caddy? I have MS-1763 and I replaced DVD bay with a HDD caddy. I want to remove it but I can't. HDD works caddy with no problems but for some reason I think my montage to HDD is not very stable so I want to remove and remontage it. Has anyone tried to remove it?

The HDD caddy is only secured with a single screw underneath the system itself.

There is a little rubber block to help vibration too but it should still be fine without it.

True, but how can I remove it? It does not come off where it stands. I removed DVD bezel and planted it to the HDD caddy, but DVD eject button obviously does not work anymore. I can't grab the HDD caddy's DVD bezel and force it to come off because there isn't room for to grab it.

That's a relief, but I want to make sure.

Once the screw for the optical drive is taken out it slides out (there will be a bit of resistance) the bracket on the back can then be swapped with another bay device (be it caddy or optical) be aware the screw requires a very small head.

    a friend of me has a Medion Erazer X6821 (MS-16F3) and will use a GTX780M. Without the 51x the device don´t work stable... he flash the 51x Bios with afudos E16F3IMS.51X.rom /p /b /n /k /x and the EC Firmware with ENEF_030 /FLASH -E -B34c 16F3EMS1.T18.

After this the GTX780M works perfect, but.... all 3 USB on the left side dont work now. What is wrong ? The Motherboard is MS-16F3 without Backlight Keyboard Connector and the Powersensorbar has only 3 Buttons (MSI Whitebook).

    View attachment 118370

i think, which the EC firmware is to blame. i hope that we can flash back to the stock Medion EC firmware and than we hope that the GTX780M also works with that.

or has here someone another idea?

edit: it was only a driver problem. Medion use another driver like MSI :)

It's BIOS, but not EC that caused the USB ports to stop working.
Because you can't use MSI-branded BIOS on a non-MSI branded system since the hardware design is slightly different, and that's why the USB ports stopped working.
You will have to flash it back to either Medion BIOS or generic BIOS.
Wrong EC update can also cause the system fail to power on due to incorrect button function assignment.
    Driver-wise, they are the same.

    Nono...

The Medion X6821 works now perfect with the MSI 51x MS-16F3 Bios and T18 EC Firmware incl USB 3.0 and all other things. All (3) Buttons works like before.

works perfect. all 4 USB are working.

i know what you mean, but since the Ivy Bridge Generation works the MSI Bios without any problems with the MSI Whitebooks. You must only read some threads here... here is a example: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...ow-upgrading-graphics-card-medion-erazer.html a guy with a X7817 with the MSI Bios.

i´m moderator in the german MSI Forum and for the notebooksection responsible. i have many threads with medion erazer user´s, many use the MSI Bios without any problems. This was the first time where problems arose after the flash.

before i had my GT70 (with MS-16F3 motherboard :D) i had a X6819 with Sandy Bridge basic (HM67) and MS-16F2 motherboard. I had tested the MSI bios, it does not work ... the right USB and subwoofer has stop working.

Yes, I remember it was 16F2 but not 16F3 that's why I was curious.
Current generations no longer have hardware difference except touch board.

Ah yes, that's the exact reason why that is happening (always best to include information about a non stock condition if you are having issues) you need an unlocked system bios and to set it to IGP mode to make the fan go back to normal.

I'm wondering if someone is able to help me here:
I upgraded my GTX70 whitebook to GTX980M - almost everything fine but two issues:
    1) the fan does spin up violently after some time and doesn't go back - also temps of GPU and CPU are ok (at least what I can see)
    2) when an external screen is connected on boot the intel HD driver crashes and renders the laptop display useless (when I connect post boot its' fine - also 1) still happens)

I fiddled with MSI GT70 dominator firmware and bios - and at least 2) is fixed - however it leaves the touchpad unusuable (and the power button led is off all the time)

So now I'm desperately looking for the latest whitebook firmware (everything later than August) and EC for MSI 1763 - E1763IG6.

No it will not work with your machine, the two best options would be the 770M (to keep costs down) or the 970M. Both require a new heatsink or heatsink mods.

    Hi,

I recently bougth a GT60 barebone (16F4), with a gtx970m. Keyboard is blue only blacklit keyboard, french (AZERTY).

    Bios is E16F4IG6.515

    I have some questions :

    - How can i know what EC firmware I'm using, and how can I backup it ?
    - What's the difference between the "Stock (IMS)" BIOS and the Barebone bios for 16F4 board ? I could see my bios file is 3MB, whereas the IMS current bios is 8MB.
    - Actually the SSE engine software is not working on my laptop. Is it supposed to work on barebones too or only on MSI branded products ? Is it just that I have the wrong keyboard or wrong EC ?

It should be listed in the bios, you could ask your reseller for a backup, I can't remember if the flasher lets you use a backup command.

Where are you seeing these files?

SSE is designed for the retail units only.

Hi. I have a strange fan problem. The fan starts as soon as the power button turns to orange (which indicates that NVIDIA GPU is active) AND it stops as soon as power button turns back to white. It produces very annoying noise. I think it is called fan pulsating or something. NVIDIA GPU's temp is around 30-40 celsius while this happens so I don't know why the fan starts to spin. I recently plugged my laptop to TV with HDMI cable. This problem occured after that one. If I use GT70 FAN CONTROL app and set fan speed to %10, it works but it stays there all the time. It doesn't start to spin even the temps are rising. By the way, I have MS1763 laptop with i7 4710MQ and GTX 870M.

    Thanks.

I found my EC version, 16F4EG62 ver 7.15. Even if I can't backup the EC (it seems there's no way to do it with afudos), as long as I know its reference, I'll be able to get support from my reseller or from MSI should a problem arise.

I compared the file size between my original bios I backuped with afudos, and the retail bios available for GT60 2OC (E16F4IMS.518). Mine is 3072kb, the retail bios is 8192kb.

So either the backup I made was incomplete (I used the "afudos mybios.rom /O" command), either the retail BIOS is somehow padded or has a technical reason to be that much larger.

The full BIOS contains both main BIOS and ME segments. ME is a protected region thus inaccessible to end-users.
Main BIOS can be backed up and flashed.
