Guys, i tried today 2x4Gig Corsair Vengence CMSX8GX3M2A and once installed the laptop won't boot anymore (turns on then shuts down a few seconds later and stays in that loop until i unplug power). They say that those rams work under 1.5 Volts so am i doing wrong or they are not compatible ? (tried in the sockets under the keyboard and the ones the opposite side).
Also by removing the heatsinks to place the Ram (without breaking the thermal pads), do i still need to repaste?

Could you link the kit? There is no guarantee a 1.5V kit will work at 1.35V since you are effectively overclocking it.

Yes those modules are rated for 1.5V so are not always going to work. It comes down to the silicon lottery as to if yours will manage those speeds.

These are the ultra high frequency 1.35V modules (i've not personally tested haswell with 2133mhz memory)

    Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance Performance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 2133 Laptop Memory Model CMSX8GX3M2B2133C11

    Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 2133 Laptop Memory Model F3-2133C11D-8GRSL

Or the more spacious and guaranteed to work:

    Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Laptop Memory Model BLS2K8G3N18AES4

Thank you very much for your suggestions. May i ask a quick questions: My Ram slots show 1.5 V so they are supposed to handle them anyways isn't it (i have a Barebone 1763-001)? I did not see that voltage written on the slots under the keyboard but they were specified on the ones under the hatsink by trying them did not make any difference.
Do i assume that the problem is not coming from the voltage then? (by the way my laptop is running at stock speeds and voltages, i did not perform any overclock so far).
    Thank you in advance.

So I downloaded the BIOS from page 97 of this thread. I own a new MS-1763 and my current BIOS is shown asE1763IG6.70C, so I downloaded E1763IG6.70H. I tried to backup my current BIOS but cannot do it. I get this error '30 Error: Problem opening file for reading' I always like to backup my original BIOS before flashing a new one. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks!

No need to back it up, because if the machine is bricked there's no recovery function with it, at least from what I had seen.
But if you really want it then I will show you later.
When you perform the update be sure to run the FLASH.BAT to proceed instead of manually enter the command and syntax.

Always make a backup, maybe the file you get is just a little off, or it performs worse and introduces a bug, or maybe an upgrade requires and older version. It's only a few KB so it's worth storing.

    Hey Guys,

I recently got my Barebones GT70 from XoticPC and have been trying to stabilize for 5 days now. I keep getting BSODs, without any pattern, rime or reason. I have tried just about everything under the sky - no luck. If anyone could help or has any tips, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have NOT flashed the BIOS, I don't know how to do that and I'm too afraid to screw it up.

I also have installed my own Windows Home Premium 64 bit on the machine.

All most latest drivers installed on everything.

    Some General Questions I Have:
-Boot Mode Select in BIOS ? UEFI with CMS / LEGACY / UEFI - default is LEGACY but what are those options, what do they influence ?
-Sata mode select set to RAID but I don't have multiple drives? Do i need to install a special SATA controller for this ? (HDD = SATA III)

Have you tried getting a hold of our service team? If you installed your own OS and now getting BSODs it's probably a driver problem. Even if you have the latest installed sometimes the machines are picky about the order of installing. Call our 24 hour line if you want to speak with somebody in person, otherwise shoot an email into their email address and they can help out with the narrowing down of the cause. Copying down the error message and letting us know the error popping up is the best way to start troubleshooting via the forums though.

    Hey Derek,

Yes I have requested their assistance twice today, and have yet to receive a response. I've been waiting for around 7 ish hours now.

Yeah I can't seem to pinpoint what's causing the issue, it just keeps crashing every now and then.

Is the BIOS OS sensitive? I mean if they prepared the computer to be used with Win 8 and I installed &, do you thing that might cause the issue?

I'm no expert, but I think it might have something to do with the SATA controller. I've run tests on just about everything and I found no faulty hardware. The most common BSOD error code is "irql_not_less_or_equal". Any ideas?

The only thing that might cause an issue is the UEFI/secure boot as far as I'm aware. Shoot me a PM with your order information. I'll see what I can get for you in response. We typically respond in 24 hours for service issues depending on how much information we need to dig up, but I can see if I can hurry that along for you.

The bios is not os sensitive, any version will work with any os pretty much.

So it's pretty much certain a driver issue, right? :/ It's really weird because for example I can play demanding games and benchmarks on it like Unigine Heaven 4.0 on Ultra settings for hours and nothing will happen (knock on wood, not yet at least ), but it always crashes when I'm performing random actions like refreshing the desktop or watching an youtube video or something. I just can't pinpoint the cause and it's stressing me out.

Also, does anyone know if updating the BIOS results in performance gains? They have a newer version on the MSI site but I'm wondering if it's worth messing with it or not, especially since I've never done it before.

Of the 1763-001 bios' does any of then allow you to disable HT?

I am capable of doing .efi usb boot and modifying the dump if I had the correct register to change.

Ok, so hope ya's all had great XMAS and are looking toward having a great great new 2014 year just a days away now :)

Its been a while since I have started my little DIY project on the Backlit Keyboard mod to fit my MSI GT683R and just lately I have had it completed. So if you's are thinking of getting a backlit keyboard to your MSI laptop that came without a backlit keyboard feature, look in to this thread:
DIY Blue Backlit Steel-Series Keyboard MOD for MSI GT683R (May also work for MSI GX660 GT660 and similar models)

Hope yous will like it and appreciate it :)

Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone was succesfull at finding a newer chipset driver than the default one MSI is offering on their GT70 2OD page.

This is what they offer now: MSI Global – Download Center

The driver version they have is 9.4.0.1017

I can't seem to find anything newer. Does anyone know?

Just received my GT70 barebones today. Thankfully, only two minor (to me anyway) issues. First, the keyboard only displays the color blue. Attempting to change it in the KLM just changes the intensity. Different modes DO work (breathe, wave, etc.). My guess is the techs who built it installed a blue only keyboard rather than the multi-color one it was supposed to have. As long as it works, it doesn't really bother me. I'll buy another keyboard down the road eventually.

The second issue is with the sound. With the standard Windows 7 driver, the audio works fine. But as soon as I attempt to install the Realtek driver, the Audio service crashes. Again, not a huge issue as I use my Logitech G930 for gaming. Has anyone else had this issue?

    *edit*

Found THIS post about the keyboard. Apparently barebones only get blue.

    *edit* #2

Fixed the audio issue. Installed the older R2.71 drivers and everything is working correctly.

Hey all. For the life of my I cant find this setting in windows 7 anywhere.

    GT70 780m series barebone.

When I shut the lid, the laptop goes into standby. When I open the lid, it automatically comes out of it. Where is the setting where I can change it to requiring hitting the power button to knock it out of standby?

    Thanks!

It'd be in the power settings, there would be an option for what to do when the lid closes and when the lid opens.

Really only because for some reason sometimes when I move it the lid will slightly lift (really just from moving it out of the way on the couch) and I would rather it not wake when I open the lid.

I can find where it says lid close action and currently its set to standby, but have no idea where the wake or lid open action is.

    Hi All,

Just wanted to send a special thanks to Ken Lee at Gentech for all his help in my quest to getting the Barebones GT70 780M to run my Asus VG278HE monitor at over 144Hz.

I first went looking for HDMI cables and tried - 1.3/1.4/1.4b/2.0, they all failed to get me over 86Hz on the Barebones GT70.

This Asus 144Hz monitor I have is capable of running 148Hz overclocked with this Dual DVI cable I got from Monoprice for my desktop system.

After several conversations with Ken he narrowed down it down to this adapter:

StarTech MDP2DVID Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link Active Adapter - USB Powered

StarTech MDP2DVID Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link Active Adapter - USB Powered - Newegg.com

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: StarTech.com MDP2DVID Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link Active USB Powered Adapter

I received the Star Tech Mini Display Adaptor tonight and after a few tweaks was able to see 146Hz using my same DVI Dual-Link cable to the Asus VG248HE Monitor.

I have the laptop set with a refresh rate at 144Hz and is gaming as good if not better than my desktop.

    Many thanks Ken!!! :D

Glad it's working for you now. :)

Yeah the adapter has USB powered and can provide extra power boost to deliver the bandwidth.

You are getting 146Hz per image and with double image you are actually getting at least 292Hz according to the review. :)

    Hi all,
my laptop is an MSI 1763 barebone with an i7-4600mq and the nvidia 780m. I bought it in June 2013.

I would like to flash the bios, but I do not know which version I should use. MSI website list win7 bios and win8 bios, my laptop came with no OS. How do I figure out which one should I install?

    MSI GT780m barebone.

When I try to install powerboost, I get an error that says "this is for MSI products only" I thought for all intents a purposes it IS an MSI. Even in CPUZ it says the motherboard is MSI based.

Anyway to get this soft installed on a barebone?

    Thanks all!

The program is possibly intended for MSI's brand name notebook products.
Hybrid Power/Power Boost is just a monitoring software so if Hybrid Power function works on the barebone then you will not be able to see it.

It's just a monitoring software and does not active/deactivate anything.
If you want to verify whether hybrid power works on your system or not then try this.

Ah! Very good! Thank you! Perfect test case scenario. I will say though, this 780m is outstanding! I can play bf4 and many others with no issues. It blasts out tons of heat but no hiccups or anything.

I heard that there is a modified VBIOS for it and it "claims" that it can increase performance by letting it throttle higher. You advise throwing it on there or is the 780m (with the turbo fan enabled) pretty much maxed out? I prefer stability over a 5% increase in speed but if its more then that....

Meh then screw it. Thing runs fine as it is. Im assuming its just for score chasers? Like does it actually improve performance at a noticeable rate? A few FPS gain in not worth killing a warranty in my opinion.

Depends on how far you push it.

Taking my cards from 850/1250 (maximum boost) to a fixed 1045/1750 gives me a rather large boost.

10% increase in core/mem clocks = 10% increase in FPS usually.

Did you get any results from the test scenarios that I've provided? Were there any differences among them?

    Ok so:

When plugged into the AC with full battery, it does yield a SLIGHT increase in 3dmark score over having it on low battery. When running the NOS program it does indeed say its working and enabled. I suspect because I only have an entry level haswell I7 its not really utilizing it due to it not really needing the extra power from the battery. (of course when on purely battery it goes to but that is expected) What im still confused about is the powerboost software for download on the site and if it actually does anything and why it wont install even though the mobo is branded as an MSI.

Meaker - What kind of temps are you getting with the OC? I mean 10% boost on a 780 will pretty much bring it to 880m levels which would be cool but still not to keen on wrecking my 3 years extended waruntee with you guys due to it.

There's a signature in the system for the software to verify before it can be allowed to install, and this signature is missing in barebone systems.

When I had a GT60 type machine, I ran at 1006/1500 temperature stable below throttle in all games with 0.5mm pads and IC diamond paste.

But I always like running my hardware at max, most users wont need to overclock the 780M at the moment, especially if you have a warranty on it.

    Hi everyone.

I own the GT-70 1763 780m and I'm looking for some help updating my BIOS. The thing is, I keep getting strange FPS drops in almost every game. In The Witcher 2 it would drop from 80 to 30 in a second then go straight back up. The process repeats every few seconds or so. First I attributed it to a poorly optimized, very demanding game. Then I noticed the exact same issue with Dota 2. I tried a whole bunch of things - updated my drivers, checked my temperatures, reset my PC, etc - nothing has worked. So I thought I'd take a crack at updating my BIOS. I'm entirely new to the process and the things I've read online about the possibility of bricking my system have left me somewhat apprehensive.

What's the procedure? Where can I find the latest version of my BIOS? What's this EC thing people keep mentioning and what does it have to do with the process of updating my BIOS? Is there some kind of executable I can run like some other laptops do or will I have to do it manually?

    My BIOS version is E1763IG6.703
My BIOS mode is currently is to Legacy. Does that make a difference?

Any and all help would appreciated.

    Thanks
