    Hey everyone,

i hope you can help me. i have a GT60-75X48FD with following specs :

    Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM Prozessor
    8 GB DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM
    500GB SATA 5400rpm
DVD Super Multi Brenner DVD DL+RW/CDRW
39,6 cm (15 Zoll) FHD Anti-Glare Display (matt)
    1.920 x 1.080 Pixel (16:9) Widescreen
    HD Webcam (30fps @ 720p)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX Grafik
4096 MB VRAM and all the other standard stuff.

I dont know but its probably a barebone.Mainboard version is MSI MS-16F3 and BIOS version is E16F3IMS.10U. I think the EC has a slight problem because while using Fan Control Tools by Pherein and loading the default preset the fan is much quieter and kicks in much faster to avoid 90°. Cant read the version out because got it BIOS password locked, yeah weird. MSI knows about this but i will ship it later to let them correct that.

So, can i flash the latest version of the EC firmware from the GT60 page or will it brick. Got to mention that i can overclock heavily and not getting any throttling apart from running a stress test in furmark. i hope you can help me !

Does it have metalic finish to the casing?

The default fan profile does not spin the fan as slow or as a fast as possible.

you mean that it looks like brushed ? ... and it has the newest version in there .. just saw it via RW-Everything :)

When using a profile from Fan Control Tools by Pherein for 16F2-12 the Default profile its perfect but after some time my gpu doesnt clocks up and the touch buttons act weird. Does anyone with a MS-16F3 made themself a profile ?

The 16F2 works fine on my 16F3, you have the retail machine.

Are those the updates that also addressed the CPU throttling on the previous GT series?

    Hi Ken,

Any news about a Bios update for the 1763-001? I see that they released updated versions for the GT70-2oD on their website.

Hopefully soon. The branded laptops usually get the support first, but with people being vocal of their need for support, MSI tends push to release the updates needed.

Yes the EC beta was to fix the throttle in general.

Hello people! I recently got interested in building my first barebones build, and I have run into an issue with it, hope you guys can help me out. I have an MS-1763, and it doesnt seem to want to boot up. The power light comes on, I can turn the keyboard backlight on and off, but the HDD light doesn't blink at all and the screen stays dark. I have an MS-1763 (the GTX 780m version), with 16gb A-DATA RAM (its the MSI recommended RAM for this barebones), an i7-4800mq, and a 750gb WD HDD.

My thought is that I have a bad or incompatible CPU... but I want to make sure before I go and get a new one. I have tried re-mounting everything in my system, nothing changes. What do you think could be the reason for this failure to boot?

I have a Force 1763 with Nvidia Geforce GTX 780M. It runs extremely cool on mine (even without the copper cooling upgrade). So far, I tried Assassin's Creed 3, The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim, Team Fortress 2, Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, Dishonored, Left 4 Dead 2, Counter-Strike Global offensive, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Deus Ex - Human Revolution, at the highest settings possible and they all run smoothly. The PC itself runs quite cool under those conditions so I'm quite satisfied. I can hardly feel the heat around the WASD keys ^_^.

If you're curious about where I got my barebones laptop from, I bought it from XoticPC.

I decided to replace my wireless adapter. However I'm trying to access the wireless adapter location safely. So far I heard that the wireless adapter is located on the top of what i think is called the S-Bar. Is the S-Bar the one that has the pictures of a eject, backlight, airplane, and fan buttons? and if it is, are the 5 wide holes between the keyboard and the S-bar the place where I can open it to access the wireless adapter? I'm trying to do this as safely as possible. ^_^

You will need to pry it open gently, but it is just a piece of long plastic there.
    Here's the 1763 assembly/disassembly guides.

Do not cross flash as the structures between W7 and W8 BIOSese are entirely different.

Can anyone please advise on what was changed in the bios and what are the noticeable benefits (e.g. Linux now boot in UEFI mode, better fan control, etc) ? I'm really tempted to update but some stuff holds me back:
1-I will loose my unlocked Bios BUT this app http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...hidden-bios-settings-without-flashing-modded-
    bios.html makes this concern obsolete.
2-Loose my patched Bios (CPU registers) to allow native CPU power management with Apple OSX.
    Please advise guys!

If you have no issues with your machine I suggest you ignore the update :) While the update does fix things, they are usually things that users constantly report. If you have found no issue during your usage, maybe you can skip it.

Looking at your post, since you use OSX maybe you are not going to see any particular change? I believe the fixes addresses the CPU throttling present in some games when taxing the system.

Well i'm using 50/50, Dual boot Mac (for Multimedia)/ Windows (for gaming). so i may be impacted by these changes but if its not that significant i won't bother. But thanks for the feedback !

Go to SEARCH (either in the right pannel on Windows 8, or simply on your start button if using Classic Sheel and similar) and type Camera.

In that case, you should take a look into it! Tho if you ever run into problems when gaming, you can confirm your issue by using Throttlestop to see if it alleviates. If throttlestop helps, then you most likely need the bios update to play at your full potential.

No doubt, thanks for all your help with my order btw.

I've never made a youtube video, but more than willing to put up a full overview/review on here or anywhere else. As I couldn't find much information at all about the updated model, if anyone wants anything specific, fire away. As we all know what the i7/765m are capable of, I planned on focusing on the chassis/speakers and keyboard.

Hello guys, I recently got the Intel 6300 wifi card to replace the annoyingly killer-wireless n 1103 and about to replace it but i encountered something. I see in the killer wireless card has triangle colors (black, grey, and white) to show where to input those antennas. but the Intel card shows numbers 1, 2, and 3 instead of colors. Do I connect them to the same place like 1103 or is the connection different?

    Ethernet Controller
Network Controller (appears when intel card is installed into the laptop)

btw I made an error its not under network adapter, in fact there isnt any.

the one i downloaded from intel was a file name like this: wireless_16.1.5_s64.exe

removed the card, scanned hardware changes, network controller disappears, reseated the card again, scan again, network controller appears, try reinstalling the driver again, still nothing happened. man, and here i thought this card was going to solve my issue.

Do you guys know if it will be possible to downgrade the bios to my actual one (in case it causes more trouble for me) ? If so, will it be the same way that the standard flashing procedure?

Edit: Ok, i'm gonna answer my own questions (to help anyone with the same wonders) and also introduce a problem that i had with this Bios.
-Yes it is possible to downgrade/update at anytime without any issues.
-The flashing procedure is exactly the same (used Winflash for the EC update).

    Now the problem:
With this new Bios a weird thing is happening, when i tried 3dMark11 i got about 1000 points drop from my previous scores (initially around 74xx ) :
    Without Hybrid.jpg

Then just by curiosity i put in the battery and tried with Hybrid power activated :
    After Hybrid.jpg

This score is slighly better than what i was getting with the previous Bios (with or without Hybrid), i also tried playing Batman : Arkham Origins and it runs smoother than all my previous trials, however i don't consider keeping the battery in to achieve such performance increase. I also went back to the previous Bios and this problem disappeared (3DMark11 at 74xx with or without battery) .

Did anyone have the same issue there?

I just got my new MS-1763 and put in my cpu and memory. I am waiting on the SSD and put in the battery to charge. The batter indicator on the front of the machine lit up for a little while but now is not lighting up. I tried to boot the machine and all I get when pushing the power button is the HD led flashes but the machine does not do anything else. The CPU is an i7-4800MQ and the memory is 16GB that I installed under the key board. Can anyone give me any ideas or do I have a bad machine? Thanks!

You need to locked the CPU by turn the screw on the CPU socket to the right:

As Ken said, the retention screw is a star-type, not Philips-style. This is an Intel socket design.
You can get the Husky screwdriver for $6 from Home Depot, see below link.

Thank you to Kevin and Ken. That did the trick and I can't believe that I missed that while putting everything together. The machine is running fine and I am typing my reply on it. If I could ask one more silly question, I have some artic silver 5 that I did not put on when I assembled the machine. When I take off my heatsinks to install the AS5, does it go on everything that had a thermal pad and how much or little should I put on? Sorry but this is the first laptop I have put together and am\not sure of how much to use. Thanks for your help guys!

Arctic silver V is capacitive (although not conductive) and if applied incorrectly could cause permanent damage to the machine, there are safer thermal pastes like IC diamond and MX-4 that you might want to consider.

Thermal paste should only be used to replace thermal paste and not pads, you can re-use pads several times so long as you avoid physically damaging them.

Thermal paste is put between the core of the chip (the shiny reflective bit when cleaned) and the heatsink, usually a thin line of paste is used on the core i7s which is spread by the pressure of mounting the heatsink.
