my BIOS is a windows 8 BIOS and EC aswell, so i decided to give windows 8 a go and test if my CPU Throttling will go away but no, its always there regardless of what i do, it downclocks to 1.2 ghz and even Throttlestop wont have any effect.
I re-installed SCM and most of the stuff is working fine now,. buttons are working fine now just that display off button is off in SCM while if i turn it on, display goes off ( showing opposite of what it actually is )

Meaker, by windows 7 bios you mean if the bios is set to legacy right?

I have searched alot and alot and what i understood so far is ( incase of barebones ) if you EC version is 4xx for e.g 1762EG62 Ver 4.01 then its a windows 7 EC and if your EC version is 5xx for e.g in my case 1762EG62 Ver 5.02 then its a windows 8 EC.
and same goes for BIOS, if your bios is ending with .30(x) then its a windows 7 BIOS and if your BIOS is ending with .70(x) then its a windows 8 BIOS.

Im not so sure, Meaker can correct me if im wrong and explain a bit :)

But yes that's what i noted in my last month of searching trying to figure out how to stop CPU Throttling, i just installed Windows 8 thinking that my BIOS is for Windows 8. but it didnt solve it :D

    In my GT70 .50(x) is Win8 and .70(x) is Win8 RAID.

Anyone have the latest bios / EC for 1763? I am tired of asking MSI for it on their support (ticket) system.. I hope someone can start a new thread or something where everyone can contribute and update all EC and bios releases here. This we we won't have to individually ask MSI for them. It's a shame you that they won't post them on a website like the branded ones, but you have to ask them on "as needed" basis... Just saying...

Yes it is bothersome their barebones don't have as much attention or dedicated pages like branded. They should at least have an updated section for their barebone entries. Specially for issues regarding EC and BIOS.

I've been enjoying my 1763, rock solid performance.

Also looking at getting a desktop ISP monitor and found some are successfully overclocking their stock refresh rates past 60Hz to 96Hz and even beyond to 120Hz.

Wondering if this is something we could tweak to get our screens past 60Hz.

Here's some links I've been reading.

    Hi everybody,

I was wodering if someone could post a picture of the new MS-1763 keyboard with and without room lights.

Its just that seems that the keyboard, and mousepad are different from MS-1762?

Coudl it be that in the new model they don't have those blue light on the speakers and the mouse-pad anymore?

    Thanks!

Yes, new 1763 is different from 1762 barebone and more look alike of branded version

Atleast the touchpad and speakers are different, i'm not sure about keyboard though, someone who owns 1763 can answer this

I do have unofficial BIOS and EC to stop throttling, PM me if you want to try.

new EC and BIOS for 1763 is still at alpha version and very unstable, MSI still working on all the bugs.

I was able to overclock the refresh rate on my desktop monitor with the Nvidia control panel no problem.

However the Nvidia Control Panel customization for refresh rate was not available on the native 1763 screen.

Looks like this question has come up before for the MSI laptops.

    In...

You guys know you can overclock the LCD

    60Hz vs. 120Hz display on Sager/Clevo?

May need to get with Ken at GenTech and work on getting an upgraded screen to put in the 1763. :)

Thank you for the update Ken!!! What about this 'unofficial' bios and EC? Is it stable enough to give it a try you think? If so, I'd be very interested and grateful! :)

This is why I bought from Gentech. The best support you'll find anywhere!

The unofficial BIOS he is talking about is for the 1762 model, not the 1763 such as yours.

    Ken at GentechPC:

I thought there might be a bios for the 1762 barebones, remember seeing this earlier in a thread, just haven't had any time to ping you for it. I do have two questions for you:

I cannot recall but is this a windows 7 version bios?
Have you heard any reports of issue with the bios or has it been pretty good.

If the above is true I would be interested in the bios. My original intent for the use of this laptop has been put on hold partly from time constraints and the throttle issue. If I can solve the one problem I hope it reinvigorates my interest so I find time to use it as I intended. (I still use it daily but mostly just for email, net and word docs.)

I hope the beta bios/EC works to remove the throttling. Remember that at least you can use throttlestop to be able to game at full performance meanwhile :)

In the 4th gen machines the NV GPU is powering the HDMI/DP so those displays can be oced, the internal and VGA is intel so can't be.

The unofficial BIOS is for MS-1762 and won't work for your 1763. MSI is still working for MS-1763, I'll let you know when I have it. :)

I have unofficial beta BIOS and EC for both Win7 and Win8. there is no known issues for the beta EC and BIOS but since it's unofficial so MSI does not provide support.

    Guys,
I'm trying to install linux mint 15 on this lappy, trying with UEFI/UEFI+CSM was just ending in a black screen. When i tried with LEGACY it did work and i could install Linux (on a secondary HDD), however i could not make the Ethernet nor the Wireless (Intel 7260) work no matter what i tried (updating Kernel, trying experimental drivers, modifying the .conf files accordantly,...). Did any of you guys succeed in doing so ? The only way to connect to internet for me so far is to tether from my iphone (a limit of only 2Gigs of bandwidth).

An update for hackintoshing if anyone is interested, i could install Mountain Lion 10.8.4 (typing this message from it) and could get some devices to work:

    Working:
    Keyboard + Trackpad
    Sound
USB 2.0 (USB 3.0 to come)
Nvidia GTX 780M (working when plugging HDMI to force the system to go with the discrete card as you guys expected)
    Webcam
    Most Fn Keys
    Keyboard Backlight and control
    Bluetooth
    HDMI display out
    Battery
-WIFI/Ethernet = No hope (except if we change our adapters for something accepted by Apple, e.g. Atheros 9285,...)

Tried to upload some screenshots but not working so far, i expect to get much more compatibility (CPU,iGPU) with 10.8.5 and Mavericks but something is preventing us (owners of HM87 and H87 chipsets) from booting the USB install so far. I think the kernel is the problem here, i will try with an unlocked Bios to check if any hidden option is in cause (if anyone can attach screenshots of the Unlocked Bios options maybe it would help).

If anyone interrested i can share how i did to get it installed.

    HI Slayer,

I suppose you have the ms-1763? I'm very interested in getting the 1763 with the 780M and to set up a double boot with a double msata adapter.

Are you doing a double boot for the hackintosh and windows ?

I just recieved the XoticPC Force 1763 (MSI 1763 Barebones) I was going happy and all until I try installing Windows 7 Home Premium. I just can't seem to install it at all...its always stuck on "Windows Expanding Files" with 0% for a long time now. *cries* (using Disc, I have no USB to boot it that way)

For now i have 2 HDDs, 1 for windows 8 (bootable in UEFI mode only) and the second HDD for OSX but under legacy mode so i need to change bios every time i change OS. Dual boot will be easy once i get everything working under Mac (using Clover bootloader). I can say that this laptop will be one of the best hackintoshes, the only no-go is wireless. If OSX is really important you may ask your retailer for a compatible chip (such as Atheros 9285).

Not that much different, boot to bios (DELETE at boot) then go to ADVANCED and change SATA Mode Selection to AHCI.

He got to the point that Windows installation recognized his disk drive and start expanding files, so ACHI or RAID isn't the problem.

Could be RAM, hard drive / SSD , optical drive or try another disk.

Thanks Slayer, Yes I will ahve to use both in the near future win and MacOX. I found that this wi-fi card accepts Mac OX straight away PNP its the BGN AR5BHB92 AR9280 Dual-band

So for a proper dual boot we'll have to wait for Mavericks?

oh man...that will be a big problem already since i waited like a month for this.
I think i should try burning the ISO into a USB drive...that might work better.

UPDATE: I got an Error code 0x80070017, which leaves me to believe that I may have a bad DVD disc. So i guess I will try out USB instead of DVD. First things first...Redownloading the ISO >_<

No need to wait for Mavericks, the 10.8.5 update is officially available now and it covers all of our hardware. I made a UEFI installation with clover and i can boot both Windows 8 and OSX from clover. The only 2 things missing now are native CPU power management and Audio injection ( works with VoodooHDA but it is not very stable). As for the WIFI chip make sure that it is not blacklisted by our bios. A less intrusive way would be to go for a usb adapter for WIFI, i`ve seen many good ones for less than 20$, and they are very small.

Guys, i don't know if any of you is having this problem, but when i use my Home Theater 5.1 (LG bh7420p) system as an audio output (through HDMI) i can't seem to get anything more than Stereo (no 5.1 available). I found a similar topic about the GT70-ONC here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/711661-gt-70-onc-5-1-audio-via-hdmi-port-2.html and i am using the exact same assembly:
-HDMI out from Laptop to Home Theater (set as HDMI IN)
-HDMI out from Home Theater to TV
There is no audio out from TV (only from home theater) and noway to configure the HT to disable TV HDMI audio out. When i check on Audio out in the config panel i see the TV only, not the HT.
Can you guys advise if you had similar issues? and if so how you could solve it?

Since HDMI is through the discrete GPU i assume we are talking about the NVIDIA drivers? I am using the latest beta (326.80), i had the same results with the other drivers. The audio is set to external speakers on TV and audio is only getting out through the Home Theater system.

You should have a high definition audio device in your device manager.

Also it's the intel chip handling the audio as it handles the displays.

So I have an MSI 1762 680 Barebones from Gentech PC that is getting the error "Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver version 320.49 has stopped responding and recovered successfully." This mainly happens when I try to play DOTA 2, but there have been a few other instances as well. Sometimes, the driver fails to recover, resulting in a random BSOD error, never the same one twice. I have installed the latest beta nvidia drivers, tried running dota on the lowest settings, and reinstalled windows, but I am still getting this error. This is a new machine that I received from Gentech around the end of June, so it's still under warranty if it needs service.

Did you have the same issue before driver version 320.49? have you try 326.80?

I did not have the same problem before 320.49, but it didn't start exactly when I installed that driver. I rolled back to previous drivers and that didn't fix the problem. I just now installed 326.80 and my computer froze up during installation, upon restart I got the same error.

Have you try custom installation and check the "clean install" box when you roll back the driver?

Also test the driver from the drivers DVD.

Thank you very much for your kind reply Ken, still no difference with these drivers, i suspect the Home Theater system to be incause. Tried with another laptop and had the same problem.
I also tried to unplug the TV and leave only the connection Laptop HT, still saying only Stereo mode available.

Do you experience any other issues with the GPU itself when gaming? Like blackouts, freezes followed by crashes etc?
