Does anyone know why the p300 isn't showing up on the FS website anymore? Can you buy this anymore???
-
the only place I found to buy this laptop is some site in Germany (people say it's a great german store) or on ebay germany.
One Ebay.de link.
The store I was talking about. -
First of all that germany store offers EU keyboard, I wonder if the keyboard can be replaced easily. 2nd of all do I have to pay VAT for shipping from Germany to US?
-
Hello everyone. The P300 is still available at Future Shop in Canada. Sometimes there is a gap between replacement models, which is why it can be removed from the website. The old one gets sold out before the new ones are available, so it looks like they are not available, but don't worry, they're coming.
We sent a P300 to Notebook Review a few months ago for a full review. You can view it here: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4296
This was an older spec version, but still shows the excellent quality and performance.
Thanks! -
one of them is Amazon.de which might help you as I know it is possible for Germans to buy products at Amazon.com and get them shipped to Germany. Perhaps it's also possible the other way round.

I just called. If you have a contact number and name. POST IT.
Leaving NO dealers in North America.
Why is it LG, despite having large TV distribution can't get even ONE american elecronics dealer (even just an online one) to sell this product.
Portable1, Newegg, TigerDirect? Retailers BestBuy, Circuit City, etc..Nada.
DISGRACEFUL.
Let me also add.. Futureshop.ca STINKS to high heaven.
You call up.. and there's a phone option/tree/Trees; With NO 'Sales' option!
Every sane business on the planet has that as #1.
None even after 3 choice buttons are hit.
The WORST phone tree design I've ever heard. -
anyone is having a purple/pink tint over the whole display when outputting thru hdmi?
i have tried two different hdmi cables and it's still having the same tint, and i cannot find any new driver for the video card.
anyone can help?
thanks -
the P300 has already been discontinued in FS. it was on clearance for a very long time so if you missed it than you missed it.
-
FS has always carried LG notebooks, though stock issues were always present. -
Well if you got a little more money on your hand, I would also consider one of Sonys new Vaio Z models =)
They look pretty damn impressive, but prices start at $1,799...
And they are available in the US... Starting in mid August or so... -
I asked my brother if they have them at the Future Shop he works at and he said no. I was hoping on getting a good deal on it too
-
I guess I am lucky to be living in Germany then!
Just about every online shop sells them here for around 1300euro..infact, im buying one this week! Very excited.
Maybe you guys just have to come on a holiday to good old europe

The new Nvidia driver is out on LG Updates. It's version 174.82.
-
My LG arrived last friday!! Im so happy
Just finished installing, tuning, undervolting, etc etc. Now im defraging and then Ill make an image of the HDD for future recoveries.
God all those updates LG and Vista took forever! Glad its all over
To the machine:
Its beautiful, fast and well built. Software and CDs that come with it are a dream (no bloatware, XP and Vista, XP and Vista drivers, automatic driver update, DVD software).
It does get quite hot though...not terribly hot but certainly noticeably hot. And my SD card got stuck in the front...I guess they forgot to put a spring inside...oops.
Greetings from Berlin,

The P300 is back in stock at FutureShop!
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...angid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10108707&catid=25313 -
UltiCOW, when it comes to the SD spring mekanism, it is there, just press a bit harder and it will come out, there was a discussion about this in a German forum. It does work but needs more force than I think is needed. Good luck on your new P300!
-
True!!!
Thanks so much!!
God I had to push it REALLY hard...crazy

Just got my P300 recently and I'm very happy with it.
I'm thinking of a RAM upgrade from 3GB 667 to 4GB 800mhz. Would there be a reasonable performance increase (Vista 32)? -
Also, the keyboard is very easily replaceable. I import most LGs I buy from Germany simply because they seem to offer better configs than Canada does (their P300 still offers the 8300 CPU vs. the 8100). -
The driver from LG intelligent update is from Dec, 2007.
I am still having the purple color all over the screen when I tried to connect to my monitor using hdmi after the intelligent updage. The thing is that it works before, but now it shows the purple color after I have played a few weeks of Crysis, maybe my card is burnt due to intense graphics? -
-
My intelligent update only gives me the 7.15.11.5686, further help will be greatly appreciated.
I am also wondering if our 8600m gs are faulty per Nvidia announcement. -
I'm using 177.73 -
I actually found this useful
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19477
this seems to have the latest driver and has a guide telling people how to install it. It really helped me, hope this helps others who are also searching for the driver.
My purple tint thru hdmi output has gone away after installing this driver -
One question. I have a copy of my drive from recovery center, but will not let me make only retrieve data. Not as generates the image file and then use the recovery center. The manual makes it pressing F11 at boot but this model does nothing.
Someone knows how to generate an image from the recovery center?
I'm sorry for my bad English.
Thanks -
Another issue which I think is not possible. You can boot the computer from a USB memory? In my old Dell laptop that was possible, here I do not detect USB memory and not started. It is possible to boot from USB? How?
My notebook is a Lg p300. -
-
I know this topic has been beaten to death, but is the heating problem bad enough to decrease the life of the P300? In other words, is a cooling pad highly recommended if I don't want to buy another notebook 2 years from now?
-
I found it gets hot, but not extremely hot...just..you know, hot
A cooling pad is about 10bucks so I cant see why not to get one! I would recommend getting one
I guess it also depends on how you expect to use it. If you game for hours at a time I would def get a cooler.
When I sit on at my desk (60% of the time) I just remove the battery...takes about 3 seconds and jam it in when I hit the road!
I also have another questions regarding heat to other LG p300 owners:
what is your average GPU idling temperature, office work GPU temperature and maximum GPU temperature?
Mine idles at about 58,
average office use at about 64
and gets up to 68.
I guess its important to mention that my T8300 CPU is underclocked at 0.925v for idling and 0.975v for max speed because the GPU and CPU share a cooler...
Thanks!
-COW -
here are my temperatures:
idle: CPU 36°C, GPU 48°C
stress: CPU 54°C, GPU 65°C
cooler set to normal mode / T8300 undervolted to 0.95V @12x
(with stock Voltage ~ 62°C CPU temp under stress for 45min)
The P300 usually doesn't feel hot at all, except while gaming of course, but then again it has a gf8600 built in... -
Hmm, I wonder why my idling tems are so much higher then yours?
My cpu idles 8 degrees higher and my GPU 10degress higher.
And I always leave the cooler on cool mode...strange?
Maybe because im running vista in all its beauty at 1920x1200?
Im sure leaving the lid closed adds a few degrees but its also sitting on an active notebook cooler..
What could other reasons be?
Thanks,
-COW -
Just test it under 1280x800 with the lid open. Otherwise temperatures mightnot be comparable, I guess.

Hi all, I'm looking into purchasing this laptop but I'd like to see what you guys who are already owers of it think of it, more precisely what do you think of its styling? Are the zebra stripes on the back as obnoxious (for lack of a better word) as they look in the pictures? I like the classy styling of the Asus U6SG but I'd much rather have the power that the P300 offers.
-
Hey Hagel!
You seem to be confronted with the exact decision I was about a month ago!
Check this post:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=262438
I was actually highly convinced that I wanted the ASUS, but the more I read about the LG the more and more I decided it was a better choice. Of weeks of talking to owners of U6Sgs and LG P300s I finally decided to go against my first temptation and get the LG.
And all I can say is that I am SOO happy that I did! Its a wonderful, beautiful, stylish machine. I can severly recommend getting the P300 over the ASUS.
Also check out http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=195649 and make sure to read the pages in the 50ies...I think I would have regretted getting the ASUS.
Aditionally, the graphics and battery are so much better on the p300.
And the steam rolled violet zebra design isnt that bad. I admit, its not as sexy as the ASUS, but it is def not ugly. The more you look at it the more it grows on you.
I hope this helps!
-COW
PS: dont get the ASUS imho...
PPS: I think there is a new U6V or so...? Might also be worth looking into eventually -
hey guys, i just recently did some research on a new laptop and so far P300 is my favorite. I would like to have as much graphics power as possible so there's really no competition in its class. It's widely available here in Germany too so no problems there.
Has anyone heard of a potential successor? I noticed something interesting:
On the german LG website, they issued a press release about new centrino 2 15 and 17 inch notebooks. It mentioned that LG is planning to release other "12 inch, 13.3 inch and 17 inch notebooks based on centrino 2" in august 2008. I am hoping for a P300 with an nvidia card in 65nm, like 9600M GS. That and no stripes would sell me instantly
BenQ did something similar with their 14 inch notebook S41 - S41 had 8600M GS and the new S42 has 9600M GS (which is 65nm and a lot faster).
Has anyone else heard something? -
Man I really hope they bring this laptop or the upgrade to the US because I would definitely trade my M1330 for that P300 in a heartbeat.
-
Thanks for the feedback UltiCOW and also thanks for those links, I may just pick up the P300 this weekend!
-
You wont regret it
They now offer them here in germany with 4gb ram and 320gb hdd for 80euro more or so.

I've just gone through all these pages of this thread and really want one of these now! Started out looking at Lenovo X300, then XPS M1330, then Asus U6SG & F9SG, then Sony Vaio SZ79, then this LG P300, then Fujitsu XNote S6520... and now back to LGP300
Anyone know where I can get one in Australia? They don't have them listed anywhere...
Thanks -
such a lonely thread, lol, especially compared to the Sony Z thread, i'm so surprised the LG P300 isn't FAR more popular, considering the price and performance, i'm still mystified as to why Sony and at least the Z draw all the hype ... i'm not totally decided one way or the other but i'm finding it hard to go with the masses and say i like the Z more, the P300 is a more pleasing machine to use imo ...
over time i'm sure LG's share of the notebook market will increase -
wait a month and check out the specs to the updated lg model.
-
Is the touchpad "smooth" or "textured" on the P300?
1. Smooth: There is no texturing on the touchpad surface.
2. Textured: A texture exists on the touchpad's surface. This is usually some kind of faux brushed metal texture.
I dislike textured touchpads, as they are oddly enough too "slick" for my fingers. Smooth touchpads allow me to have a slight "grip", which provides greater accuracy. -
smooth, the P300 touchpad is very good, I like it more than the Sony Z
-
Hey just a heads up the p300 is now $1499 at Futureshop (and you get a free laptop essentials kit - valued at $99 but worth $20 max = but hey free is free). I just got a price adjustment since I bought it at $1599 a week ago.
This notebook is amazing, especially at this price. As for heating issue it gets hot on 'high performance' when you have it on a surface like a pillow/lap but it is quite acceptable I feel. Usually I am on battery (power saver) when I have it off my desk so I haven't had any issues.
Basically if you want performance + portability this notebook can't be beat. -
Couple of Q's though.
What kind of times are you getting on your battery and on what tests? Have you under volted the graphics card? -
ugh. the price drop makes it that much harder to wait for the p310.
