In my opinion the LED screen is beautiful. I've taken a look at the Dell computers at their cubicles in malls and find they aren't as nice as the P300.

With light leakage (I'm no expert on light leakage so this is a really inexperienced opinion), I've seen an example of it on youtube with the T61P from Lenovo. I mean if your extremely picky you can see very minor leakage if you have a black display, and your looking for it. Very minor which you wont notice during regular use. It wasn't as bad as the example on the youtube but it is acceptable.

I find the screen very beautiful, bright and clear. What I love about the screen is that its crystal clear like a glossy screen but its easy on the eyes like a matt screen. On highest brightness I never find my eyes irritated at all and they never get sore. I use this thing about 7 hours straight a day so thats an example. Other glossy screens really hurt my eyes like my old compaq presario true bright screen.

    Hiya,

I have been reading all the reviews and all the good feedback from all you P300 owners. I was going to go for the Sony SZ Series but after a lot of research and a lot reading, I finally decided to buy the P300 over the SZ because the SZ has a really dodgy touchpad. So I have read.

Also I find the P300 better in design and specs. I don't use the DVD-ROM as often as I would like. I use to own a DELL X1 and that has an external drive as well. I only used the drive once over the past 2 years.

Anyway, I love everything about this machine. It's quick loading Vista as well, nearly as quick as my 3.4G Core Dual Destop loading XP.

There is a liitle problem though. I don't know if any of you guys are experiencing. That is the vertical scroll doesn't work on the Program Menu.

If you click the Start Menu and rollover to the All Programs, you will see all the programs list. If you roll your mouse or pointer over the list and try to use your touchpad to vertical scroll, it only works for once. If you roll off and roll over it again, the vertical scroll will no longer work until you click on a folder. It will work again but only for once, if you roll off and on again, it won't work until you click on another folder (you can't click on the icons because you will start a program).

Anyone experiencing this problem or is it too small that no has noticed? Any cure? I even updated my touchpad driver to the latest version from Symnaptics.

As far as I am concerned, I can live with it but it's a shame. Just that little bit from being perfect!

    Hope someone bro can help.

BTW, people from Hong Kong, you can get yours for $16.9K HKD from Broadway and you will get a 2GB Ram upgrade for FREE which increases your machine to a 4GB rig. Shame a 32 bit can only use 3. Oh, you also get a 1GB USB Memory Stick, Mouse, Hands-free earphones and Mic and a Notebook bag.

    Hi c2ironfist!

Just to let you know, I couldn't resist and actually went out to get the P300 today. The Futureshop location I went to, only had one last one in stock! (other than their demo)

My hubby was persuasive and managed to get me a 150$ discount off the regular price with the manager because it was the last one left.

Now I have it all set up and running.. the screen is much smaller than I'm used to (our desktop monitor is a 22' so this will take some time) but other than I'm totally in love! This baby is so quiet it's unbelievable! And since I do not intend on gaming on the notebook, I don't anticipate having any heat issues either.

I also ordered 2GB Crucial ram (they have a special this week at 49.99$) from futureshop.ca ;)

Thanks again for all your help!

    Dana

Anyone out there experience the same vertical scroll on the all program list (from the start button) problem as me?

I can't use my touchpad to scroll vertically after the first time. I hope I am making sense.

I can scroll the first time and then when i release my finger from the touchpad, and try then try to scroll again, it won't work.

Please help. I just wanted to see if this is a driver or software problem or is it my Vista. If you guys are not experiencing it, then I may try to reinstall Vista again or even XP.

Thanks for your help in advance.

    Cheers!

I experience the same thing, I don't think its much of a problem though. When you try scrolling again you can see that it does work but it doesn't move. How I eliminate this problem is by clicking a folder or something and then try scrolling again, it works. I'm not sure what the problem is but it seems fine to me though.

I really like my P300, so light and powerful... The only two things I don't get is that when I put the fan on cool mode, isn't it supposed to run on full all the time? Or does it still adjust fan activity to what the temperature is? And when I close the lid, doesn't the computer go into sleep mode?

Other than that, my only complaint is that the left ctrl-key is really noisy... dunno why.

But all in all, it's a great notebook. Perfect setup for me.

Computer adjusts the fan speed according to your activity level. Also the P300 is extremely quiet machine even on cool settings.

You can change what happens when you close the lid if you go into power settings. All that can be adjusted yourself.

The keys don't make much noise but the one good thing about them are they are solid and a pleasure to type with.

Thanks c2ironfist, at least I know that I am not the only here that is experiencing the same scroll problem. Do you think this is a LG driver problem or is it a Vista problem? I tried other notebooks and they seem to work. I don't find it annoying or think it is a problem. I just want to find out if there is a way to solve it.

As for everything else, I love this little machine. Maybe it is just Vista that sucks. I am thinking about XP. What do you think?

I'm not an expert but I'll try and explain what I believe is causing this minor problem.

I don't think its a driver problem. It's probably how windows recognizes things your pointer.

I'll use regular active and inactive windows as an example. When the window is active you can scroll down, up, left and right, but if your window is inactive and you try scrolling it wont work, even if your pointer is on that window your unable to until you click on it to make it an active window.

This probably is the same issue with the start menu. Once you release your fingers on the touchpad the menu becomes inactive and your probably going to have to click on it again for it to recognize.

Thats my possible answer. I hope some one else can come in and correct me on this :)

btw I also tried this on XP as well on another laptop and even on the menu there your unable to scroll with the touchpad

    Hey c2ironfist

Thanks for your reply and yes I guess that could be of the explainations but the funny thing is I tried this on another notebook which is also running Vista. I tried it on a friends notebook to see if they have the same issue but it works fine on his HP notebook.

If you have tried it on an XP and on a Vista machine and both of them don't work, then have you checked does both of the machines uses Synaptic Touchpads? Maybe it's a Synaptic Touchpad issue. I will find out if my friend's notebook uses the same touchpad as mine.

I will let you know as well.

Also, just to let everyone know, if they don't know already. If you update your Vista to SP1, you will be able to see 4GB of RAM instead of only 3GB. I am not sure if the system will utilise the whole 4GB though.

    Anyone knows?

Your right, it will see the 4gb of memory, but as you also said it cant use it, as it is bound to the processes of 32bit systems.

however! I cant see why people dont just run vista 64bit... runs smooth and problem free for everyone i know, including myself

From what I have read, the 64bit system slows down your system. Sorry for my ignorance.

I won't mind getting a 64bit system but I would like to find out more before i any further into installing a new system

The 64-bit version of Vista will be slightly slower than the 32-bit version simply becuase it has about 35% more code. However, people have reported that some applications run a little faster. Right now there's no real advantage to 64-bit Vista unless you need the security or 4 GB of RAM or are running 64-bit applications.

Yes both machines have Sympatic Touch Drivers. My Compaq and the P300 both use Sympatic Drivers.

I haven't run into any other problems though so meh lol

Thanks for your reply and information. So no need to pay extra to get a 64bit system just to be able to use the extra 1 GB of RAM. Maybe when I need to upgrade to the Ultimate version, I might decide to join the 64bit.

Yo Jim, I think this must be a Synaptic problem then. I tried my friend's HP Notebook and the touchpad worked fine. Because it doesn't use a Synaptic touchpad. Oh well, guess we are stuck with it until Synaptics find a way to resolve it, if ever...

    Hi guys,

After 2 XPS 1330 received with very bad quality, I just cancelled my order today (T9300, 2Go, 200 Go 7200t, LEDwith 4 years warranty, all for 1250 euros).
I am now turning my attention to this P300, it will cost me 450 euros more than DELL (including an DD upgrade to a 7200 t model) but it looks that It worth it!
because The P300 with a T8300 match the DELL with a T9300 in vista CPU indice (5.3 vs 5.4, the overall is 4.1 for DELL vs 5.1 for LG)

one question, I am planning to order it from Germany with a french keyboard
but then I must reinstall vista, so what about the drivers?
are they specific or should I find the LG ones?

Is someone purchase this laptop in Europe with FR -shipping and keyboard-?

    Thank you.

    Namor

Anyone running x64 + 4gb on this laptop? LG's site says it only supports 2gb max but I have a feeling it's the 32-bit memory limitation that causes them to say that.

Also, do they have the proper drivers for x64?

The european version comes with 3GB of RAM, so I think it is the OS 32bit RAM limitation...

There's no LG laptops being sold in Taiwan. As for HK, they do have LG notebooks, but not the P300. Not sure about Beijing though...

No, it doesn't void warranty :)

Actually, the LG website says it supports up to 4gb of ram.
    http://www.lge.com/products/model/detail/p300_1_6.jhtml

Not sure about the drivers though. Their website seems to only offer drivers for XP and Vista 32bit

Does any of you guys who have the p300 have any problems when gaming? I know it gets hot.. pretty understandable for a 13,1" but does it crash due to heat or have any other heat related problems?

Not True, I got mine from Broadway in Hong Kong. Please read prior posts. I got an extra 2GB RAM for free although the 32bit only uses 3GB RAM. So go before they stop the offer. An Extra 1GB is better than none as Vista uses over a Gig of RAM for the system. If you only 2GB of RAM, you don't have much for your software and programs.

Anyone thinking about this computer, don't hold back. This is the best notebook I have used in 15 years. I have own DELL and SONY before, and none has matched this machine. Not in looks, not in performance.

I have been following this thread from page 1 and that is why I have brought this notebook. From what I have read (because I don't play intensive games, I use this for Photoshop and Web development), is that it only heats up during intensive 3D gaming. And even when it heats up, its cools down pretty quickly with the super cooling system. I used this on my lap bear skinned, and it hasn't created any discomfort. So I would think it's pretty save. Also, no posts has been posted about over heating.

I would like to get a US layout keyboard also, I don't like the shift on the left side, it's just too small.

Anybody knows if they will sell just the keyboard in HK or where? I will be heading to HK this summer, and will probably try to get one.

    Thanks in advance !

Yes, you can buy parts from LG Hong Kong Customer Services. So I would think you can buy any parts. The Keyboard is pretty important and they must sell this as these things do break and needs replacing. So if you are coming back this summer, it will sure be easy to get a replacement. You may need to order it so it's best to order it first thing when you come back, just in case it takes more than a month to order.

Hey, just a note to all P300 enthusiasts, I have found something that LG needs to upgrade or improve on this machine. That is the SD card slot. I find it very annoying when I need to pull the card out. I always need to force it out or pinch it really hard so I can grab it out. If I insert a Memory Stick Duo with a Memory Stick cartridge, I have to use a tweezer to get the cartridge out. It would be nice if they have used a push locking system where you just need to push it in and it locks the card in and push again so it releases it. Any thoughts?

This was discussed in a German thread before =)

The thing is, you need to push the card really hard because the spring is really strong...
If you are scared you could break the card slot call the customer service they might help you....

But a push mechanism should be in there...

    Good Luck xD

Thanks Yeeze. I am such a SPAZ! LOL. I think when I got my notebook, the Memory Card Slot was already pushed in. So that is why I didn't know there was a spring. After reading your feedback, I tried pushing it (really hard) and it popped out! That really helped me, I was really stressed out about this. Now it is solved! No problem any more with this system. Maybe I should fully read the manual before making such a statement. Cheers!

I just picked up my P300 today (Futureshop had to ship it in from Ontario, so it took a few days).

Build quality is incredibly high, so nothing to worry about there...

    So, my thoughts...

It runs warm, but has 3 fan speed settings.
The LG updater is a bit annoying and doesn't properly run multiple updates.
How the mouse works is a bit weird (hover-click, I can't find where to turn it off D: or maybe I'm really bad with trackpads )
The screen is a bit flexible because it's so thin.
User setup is amazingly fast. Plus, it sets up partitions for you which is sweet.
There isn't enough ram, which is unexcusable when I can upgrade for 90 bucks to 4gb.
    Plus all the Vista quirks.

Oh god, it's a beautiful thing. It comes with a cleaning cloth, the DVD drive is fricking amazing.

Be prepared to wait. They're on low stock as far as I can tell.

Sounds really good ! well here in Demark there are a couple different shops that has everything from 1 to 7 in stock :) so shouldnt be a problem there.

Sounds good about the quality, and when it comes to heat... ive read that is has very good cooling systems... compared to like Zepto.. which dies!! due to bad cooling hardware, which is sad.. makes their gaming laptop.. not being able to game.

I proberly wont be using the standard startup - vista and all.. usually i clear everything and setup my partitions from scratch, but sounds great anyway.

About the screen? is it good to look at? how does the 1280x800 look at the 13,1" ?
When you say it can flex? does it do that by normal use or do you need to force it a bit before that happens?

To get it to flex, you actually have to be trying to flex it.

The resolution is just fine at about 1 - 1.5 ft. Although the battery and Smart Link have been giving me some troubles in trying to get them both working.,

You will not regret it at all. There isn't any major fault on this machine. I don't find it hot as mentioned earlier. It quick and the screen looks fine to me for a notebook. You are going to love this little thing! It's the best thing I have brought in a long time. Just remember the SD card slot is pretty hard to press, so you need to press it real hard to get the card back out. Have fun!

May I ask what are you actually running that needs more than 3 GB of RAM? 3 GB is more than enough for most average users, even with Vista. Unless you're a heavy gamer or need to handle large images with PS. If not, then you will not see a difference in speed with 4 GB compared to 3 GB.

I guess when you have 4GB of RAM, you would just like to be able to use it. I wouldn't of upgraded mine to 4GB if it wasn't for free.
