    Try this one:
    Go to Control panel
    Appearance and personalization
    display
then tick the checkbox saying "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays"

or if you dont want that, right click google chrome, properties, compatibility, then check disable scaling on high dpi settings

Thanks for the answer. I did check the "Disable Scaling on High DPI" on Chrome propieties but still looks the same, I even play a FB game that let me choose 1080p fullscreen and now looks like zoomed in on a very wrong way.

I will try the Apparance and Personalization thing then... but I think is the same right? =/

    Hey another different question.

Can I output 3D content from my Y510p with 750M SLI to my 3D Projector Optoma HD131Xe?

Does anyone know where I can buy a ultrabay bezel ? I'm currently swapping ultrabay accessories around when working on the laptop ( GT755 ultrabay when I'm gaming, HDD caddy when I'm doing work with files that I need extra storage for, and DVD drive when I need to ), and currently I only have a bezel on the GT755m Ultrabay, and I need to constantly swap the bezel from the HDD caddy to DVD drive and vice versa whenever I'm using them, which is slightly annoying.

So if there's a place that has them sold, or if there's a place where I can 3d print one ( and there are available specs for the 3d print job ), that'd be amazing. Cheers !

Hi, few question... just wondering if all y510p have ALS sensor? and if yes, where is it located? the reason why i asking is, that it seems i dont have any. I have always used this ALS sensor on battery. Cant see the sensor in device manager, but in power options i can turn it on/off. Also sound card, i constantly have a humming noise in my earphones. it is stilll there, no matter what volume is set.. it is a bit annoying because i still using earphones and once you know the noise is there, you can always hear it :) just bought 256 SSD... cant install win recovery from usb.. still it comes to 43% and it stops... any advice ?

I tried that, too, and it stopped at 43%. I eventually gave up and just reinstalled windows 8.1.1 from scratch. Here's my steps (using my M.2):

Download ISO Windows 8.1 Update 1:
    search for "en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_4065090.iso"
create a bootable UEFI USB Flash drive (minimum 4GB):
go to command prompt (admin), and type:
    diskpart
    list disk
*** make note of the disk # of the usb drive ***
select disk # (where # is the number above)
    clean
    create partition primary
    format fs=fat32 quick
    active
    assign
    list volume
    exit

use an ISO program (like PowerISO) to mount the Windows ISO you downloaded, or use 7zip to extract the ISO
copy all files from the ISO to the flash drive

To know your product key which is embedded into BIOS (good to have, but not required)
Download & install 64 bit version of read write everything from here:
    Download | RWEverything

Run it. Click on the ACPI Table button at the top. After that click on the MSDM tab.
Your BIOS's product key is at the bottom.

    Shutdown
If you want to be safe, you can temporarily unplug the main HDD, so as to preserve it
Plug in USB and press F12 when the PC starts, and boot from USB (if it doesn't work, you may need to use the Lenovo button to go into the BIOS and enable USB boot and/or disable Secureboot)
Install Windows from USB using "custom", so you can resize the SSD, if desired
Windows should pick up the embedded key automatically, and authenticate automatically

    Install:

    -Chipset drivers
    -Audio drivers
    -Onekey Theatre
    -Energy Management:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037135&rss=true
    -Any other programs you want

Welp, Lenovo just cancelled my 755m Ultrabay GPU order I made a week or so ago and now it's no longer showing up in their catalog. It's probably gone for good except from scalpers ( cough *Klickonline* cough) on eBay. I am now both sad and pissed off. If I had known that I couldn't count on them to fulfill my order, I would have purchased a SLI unit to begin with.

Between this and my defective motherboard and GPU, I seriously doubt I'll ever be buying from Lenovo again. I'll probably just tell them to cancel my repair order and give me a refund.

Yes, it'll be a torrent. Nothing wrong with that, because you own the 8.1 license.
Don't know anything about Ambient Light Sensor or headphone humming (never use headphones on my laptop)

Big thanks to all the replies in this thread, it's been quite helpful as I get my y510 up and running. For the first month I experienced horrible lag problems running the stock Win 8.1 install, particularly after boot, the system would hang with 100% disk usage for literally 30 minutes or more. I tried a variety of solutions from both here and elsewhere with little success. Once the disk usage chilled out, it would run fine, though occasionally giving me nonsense "your system is low on memory" warnings that appear to be a memory leak that occurs when using HDMI out. Annoyed, I decided to install Win 7. Works fine, and I've installed all the drivers, but...

The system doesn't seem to see the NGFF SSD (my model has the 24G). A couple hours ago it did see it (as an unpartitioned, unmounted drive), though once I opened disk manager, it disappeared, and I can see in the error log when it did, first VDS failed to write boot code, then the Disk reported not ready for access, then the atapi controlled detected a controller error on IdePort1, and now it seems like the system does not see it at all.

EDIT: Sometimes the system sees it but can't really seem to access it. Formatting it in Disk Management hung for 10+ minutes. HD Tune's scan suffers similarly. Hardware problem?

EDIT2: HD Tune finally got unstuck and started scanning. First it found every block damaged and was scanning SUUUUPPPERRR SLOW. Then it caught up with itself (seemingly, not unlike the lag errors that brought me to Win 7 in the first place) and the disk scans fine.

EDIT3 (final): When it did appear, I ran a utility to see if I should update the firmware. It said I should, so I did. Now Windows again doesn't see the drive. Sigh.

Anyone out there have thoughts on what I may have done to make it disappear, or how to get it back? I was planning to use it as my Lightroom Catalog on a fresh install of my photo library, thinking that's where the SSD speed would bring some value to the table, but if it can't be seen, I can't do that.

Also, possibly system-related, possibly not, the internet connection drops out with some regularity, it maintains its wifi connection to the router but loses access to the outside world, as it did while typing this question.

If you have the stock ssd that came with the laptop and if you want to use the ssd as a cache drive, then you should download the ExpressCache software. It came with the laptop on Win 8 stock. If you upgraded and bought one of the MyDigitalSSD's then you should update the firmware and download FNet HybriDisk.

Can you enlighten me about the disk partitions on my y510p? I have 1TB + 24GB M.2 for caching see attached image
    diskMan.PNG

Disk 0 is the m.2 right? Is it normal to display 22.36GB as free space (100%) even when it is used as caching? I tried the eccmd -info on my command prompt and it says that I am in fact using caching

One more thing, what are 1000MB Recovery Partition, 260MB EFI system, 1000MB OEM Partition and 12.53GB Recovery Partition? Which of these can I safely format and use as storage? I dont mind removing lenovo bloatware, I only want to keep the onekey recovery (confused on 1000mb and 12.53gb recovery partition)

    Thanks!

12.53GB contains the Windows recovery files. These are the files used to restore it to factory image.
EFI is obvious, and is created on every primary disk for EFI boot purposes
I can only guess that the 1GB Recovery and OEM partitions are used in part with the one-key recovery
Really, I wouldn't remove any of them to be safe. The 12GB is required for restore, and the others are small enough not to make a difference. My fresh SSD has a 300MB recovery, and 100MB EFI partition, for example. These were created from the Windows install

Those who boot from your m.2 ssd directly, what are your boot times?

I currently have 1TB HDD + 24Gb ssd as cache, and has a 14s boot time (fast startup disabled) up to the log in screen. I was wondering if the difference between booting directly from m.2 is huge or not. I plan on buying 128gb m.2 but if the difference is minimal, I guess I would just invest first on RAM.

If you have 1tb+8gbsshd feel free to share your boot times as well.

    Thanks!

    EDIT:

So with 1tb+8gb sshd, fast startup enabled it takes 13s to boot.

WIth my 1tb HDD + 24Gb ssd as cache:
    Fast startup disabled takes 14s
    and enabled 10s.

How about those who boot directly on ssd? (M.2) Can you share yours when fast startup is
    a.) Enabled
    b.) Disabled

Well, I know that boot time isn't the only benefit in using ssd. But I just want to know if there's a huge difference on this part. Thanks!!

15 seconds to boot to the login screen here.

EDIT: Timed it more accurately this time, got 13.3 seconds.

    On my 128gb M.2:

8 sec with fast boot, 15 sec without (only ran it once, though)

Luckily, boot time is not the best test of an SSD. Having a clean install of 8.1 on an SSD makes a world of difference from the bloated HDD Lenovo gives us. There is no comparison.

    Hello Guys,

Sorry for the sudden Intrusion but Id like to ask question.
This is basically a repost from the lenovo forums concerning the unshrouded mod for the Laptop.
    Y510p-Ultimate-Cooling-Mods-Revealed-Unshroud-your-cooling-fans

One question though if there is anyone here or someone who has found a good alternative to the shroud.

Im tempted to remove mine however there's a severe problem since I move around a lot. Also I don't wanna make that damage to the sides though I Might mod a fan instead. (ie back 2 back tape + 120mm Fan?)

Im thinking sticking in something like a Car Aircon Vent something that can close when you transport it.

    Car Aircon Vent

I only keep my laptop and my Graphics Tablet in mybag though. I also keep it always in the Bag when not in use.

    Memory Foam Bag

Then I place that Same bag in a much more larger bag like this.

    Samsonite two Gusset Classic Bag.

Then the Samsonite into a Backpack.

Sounds ridicolous but its an added protection. The Backpack is to alliviate the weight + Deter any pickpockets + avoid suspicion. Its normal for a college student here to carry some bulky bags (Let others into thinking its some clothes etc.)

Considering how I transport it would it be advisable to just unshroud it completely or make a makeshift cover that closes/open to deter any dust when not using.

PS: Considering this awful country only provides a 1 yr warranty its close to being null. Id rather take my chances with making a mod to the vent for optimal performace.
+ Im considering making a 12v Fan for my incoming NotePal u3 maybe 3x 120mm? that runs on socket for optimal perfomance, Is this a good Idea for an unshrouded vent?

Hi guys. Is there a way to clear my SSD cache? I use VMWare on my laptop but it is so slow. A friend of mine has exact laptop and his vmware windows is alot faster than mine. I am guessing this is due to his vmware being cached through ssd and mine through HD.

    Can someone help?

guys I recived my y510p last night after a lot of waiting for it to ship to my country, It's nice performance but with two major problems, first of all is the touchpad, SO HORRIBLE, I install these drives from toshipa

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...ing-updated-elan-track-pad-drivers-y510p.html

it's better but still very annoying and hard to press bottons ( although I did the dead area thing )

    ---

The other problem is the font and readabilty , I can read but it's just look wrong compared to my old laptop ( 720p screen ) , is it because windos 8.1 ? if I install windos 7 will it get better?

If your laptop has a 1920 x 1080 screen, you might want to try adjusting the Windows 8.1 scaling feature. Open up the Control Panel - Display and adjust that. The default is 125% but I prefer 100% so everything is 1:1 and there is no scaling. Some things seemed a little blurry to me at 125% so I prefer small to blurry.

    Here's some more info.

Hands-On with Windows 8.1: Desktop Display Scaling | Windows 8 content from Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows.

To be honest, Windows scaling for high DPI monitors is still a work in progress.

    Hi, everyone.
After 4 months of having this laptop I started having this problem:
After playing like 2hr+, the screen goes black for couple of seconds and then it comes back but both GPU clock speed lock to 405 MHz . All this only gets fix by rebooting the machine.
What I've tried to fix this but didn't work is:
Update to latest nvidia drivers including beta.
    Roll back older nvidia drivers.
Overclock the GPU but no change on MHz.
Set power management mode to prefer maximum performance.

Temperature most of time of the GPU is around 85c at most and CPU around 77c to 84c at most.
Anyone knows how to fix this or have heard anything about this?

I trayed everything, the font problem isn't anooying me in windows inviroment, It buges me when I use firefox or any other browser, SO BLURRY!! and the scaling doesn't change anything in firefox. ( just makes it harder to read because it's too small )
anyhow I'm having some other problems because of this stupid windows so I'm really thinking to downgrade to wnidows 7, if I did that will the blurry things go away? and can I go back to windows 8 or I will lose my lincense or something ?

by the way, the dead area in the touchpad is the bottons area but when i click on a button the dead area is disabled and the Cursor jumps around, can I solve this?

You can disable scaling for each program by right clicking on the shortcut and going to compatibility and uncheck the scaling option (that will fix your blurry text for that program). I think they really messed up the scaling issue on Win 8 and I wish there was another way around this.

For your Win 8 license, just download one of the CD key extractors and keep your key, then you can re-install Win 8 at a later date (provided you can find a OEM copy of Win 8). Or you can just make a backup of your current install and restore to it if you prefer. I just removed the HDD and put in a new SSD and installed fresh copy of windows on that and if I want to go back to my original copy I can just put the mechanical HDD back in.

    Has somebody experienced this anomaly?

I've been running 36T on my throttlestop, Doing Digital Painting and stuff on PS CC Kinda wierd though but I made some tinkering and downed it to 34T.
(Highest temp is 70 C or so)

Now I can't seem to bring it up back to 36T

FYI XTU is set for max 36 Multipliers on both Processor and Core.

Weirdest thing is that the Clockrate does GO OVER 3.4, I hardly think this is a hardware issue since no Problems has been arising. Hope this is more of a Throttlestop bug.

Solved it posted on the Throttlestop Guide Thread, Feel free to delete this post if its redundant. But it seemed to be only a TS bug.

I installed windows 7 on the HDD ( I couldn't install on my 24 GB SSD ), now windows can't detect the SSD drive! it shows 931 GB HDD and the Boot UP is slow, when I was using windows 8 it used to boot in 15 seconds now it takes about a minute!
    what should I do ?

    Thanks

If you want to use the 24 GB SSD as a cache then you need to download the cache drivers from Lenovo. Otherwise just go into the disk management and initialize the SSD/format it and it should show up. Otherwise the drive is sitting there uninitialized and doing nothing.

I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology from lenovo but I can't make the ssd as a cache, from what I read online you have to go into the Acceleration tap , for me I don't have this tap!!

That is not the right driver, there is a caching software specific for the SSD you need. Can't remember the name offhand but it isn't intel.

Thanks guys, it's working fine now.
but the ssd now doesn't show up, if I format it in disk mangament as NTFS will it work as a cache and storage device the same time? it used to work like this in windows 8

I don't think it can be used as storage and cache at the same time unless you partition it and leave half of it available for cache.

Yeah, it's one or the other, not both. Use Express Cache to set up as a cache drive, otherwise just format it as a normal drive to use the space (which is kind of pointless for a measly 24gb). I tried with my 128GB and was unable to split it between cache and normal drive.

Lenovo released official 3.05 bios update for all Y410p/Y510p.

Maybe it will ease modding process and reverting afterwards.
