Right now i stick with + 80 core + 300 mem for stability.

Does Kepler benefit more from memory or core speed? Fermi used to love Core speed generally

Also worth noting is that I no longer have the 2 additional multipliers in XTU, max is now 34 unless Im overlooking something simple. Both GPU's register just fine as well, time to test for some stability

I ordered my y510p (i7, 16gb ram, SLI 755) around Jan 20th 2014, and it has been delayed twice for shipment (as of now still won't ship until feb 27th). I called and they said there is a manufacturing delay.

Has anyone else purchased a y510p around January 20 2014 and received the product? Or should I expect more issues with shipment and delivery?

    thanks

Your order got delayed most likely due to long Chinese New Year, which started from the last week of Jan to the middle of Feb. The holiday was officially ended yesterday in China.

Hoping someone can help me here. For reference in what I'm about to post here are my specs: i7 4700mq, 750m sli, 8gb ram, Win8.1.

Anyways, for some reason I'm just getting flat out horrible performance on Titanfall and I have no idea why. Systems with lower specs are running the game with much MUCH better results. For reference one of the Respawn devs commenting on a lower specced system, saying it should be running the game at lower settings at 60fps most times. NeoGAF - View Single Post - Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!) Plus I've read several posts of other low specced systems running the game pretty well

Meanwhile, my system struggles to reach 30fps at 720p with all the settings on low. So clearly, there's something wrong on my end, but I can't figure out what. SLI is enabled. I don't have the intagrated intel GPU driver on my laptop AFAIK so I'm pretty sure that's not taking over. But I don't know what else it could be. I thought maybe it was the settings on that energy management program that came installed, but even that is on high settings. My laptop is plugged in. I'm using the latest beta drivers. What should I be looking for in my settings? What's causing this performance gap?

Hey guys just started to research into this machine the last day and a half and i just have some questions about the machine in terms of what problems does it have with sli, screen tearing, where can i really get a blu ray, hard drive caddy ultrabay drive, and an extra 6 cell battery would an after market battery from lenovo be more money. Is newegg the best place to buy the machine? It seems like it really is in terms of price, do people have the wireless issues? I already have a gaming desktop plan to get a newer one after i sell off a ton of notebooks i've collected over the years and some parts. I'd be for portable gaming and school though there will be days when i just want to have something lighter to carry around but when i do want to have a good rig like this. I've spent a long time in the past spending money on larger notebooks and just don't have interest in them currently I just don't want nothing to heavy i have plenty of bookbags to fit it. I really wish it had more USB ports. I wouldn't mind using it as a dtr planning to get ips monitors too.

It seems that titanfall has issues currently with SLI. Try disabling sli and trying.

Well, I got a little better performance. I flashed my vbios. So I ran Titanfall again and performance seems to have gone up, however, I ran gpu-z in the background and one of the 750m is showing 0% load. This isn't normal, is it?

Just a warning to those who want to buy the ultrabay 750m5 video card. It has been reported now that the reason they don't work is a power issue and the single card version of this laptop do not provided enough power to the ultrabay to power a second card. If you want SLI then buy it pre-installed from the factory.

who had this problem? did he also bought 170W power brick with the ultrabay card? ..otherwise it's understandable that system won't have enough power

Sorry McMik but there are 100s of people complaining about this. It isn't as simple as the missing 170w psu. I have a 36 page long forum post in the lenovo forums about the ultrabay cards not working when you buy them for a single card version. It isn't a PSU problem (we all have the 170w bricks) and it isn't a software or vbios issue. The cards are not detected by the motherboard and are therefore dead.

It's Source Engine so there's gotta be some way to force SLI to work. Try:

Manually adding the Titanfall exe in Nvidia Control Panel and playing with the SLI rendering mode setting (force AFR1 or AFR2).

Create an application profile for Titanfall in Nvidia Inspector and use the SLI compatibility bits from one of the latest build Source Engine games, e.g. Portal 2, CS:GO, DOTA 2.

BTW can anyone verify whether Titanfall is DX9 or DX11?

I have an interesting issue with my Y510p i7 SLI model..

I downgraded (upgraded?) to Windows 7, and installed the modded bios/vbios, and I'm not sure if there's any correlation, but when I close the lid to put the laptop to sleep, it gets unusually hot after sitting in sleep mode for a while. Particularly on the right-hand side of the track pad/palm-rest (I think this is where the HDD is?)

Also, every so often when resuming from hibernation, I'll get an error saying it cannot resume from hibernation (error code 0xc000009a) and no other info. This only happens ~1 in every 5 times though..

    Any ideas?

Check power settings to make sure the laptop actually goes to sleep instead of just idling with the display closed. Also what version of LENOVO energy management are you running?

Lenovo Energy Management 7.0.3.4 Though, the one for windows 7 looks a bit different from the Windows 8 one: http://i.imgur.com/LzVfvPm.jpg

I checked out all my power settings, and it says that closing the lid puts it to sleep. I also get the same results by manually putting it to sleep, just to confirm.
Out of desperation, I enabled deep s4 sleep from the bios, to no success.

As for the hibernation, I also cleared my hibfile.sys to no success either.

If I were you, I'd RMA the faulty machine and buy a new one. The RMA won't cost you a penny as Lenovo pays for the return shipping and then you won't have to worry about an authorized service provider not messing up your warranty. Yes it'll be a pain to send yours back and get a new one, but this type of issue is what the 30day money back guarantee is all about.

I have ordered a Y510P on Monday and surprisingly I am receiving it tomorrow. They shipped it via UPS 2nd day air even though it said UPS ground.

    I have a few questions:
    - My laptop did not ship from China. Is this common?
    - I got the single GT 755M card. Based on the feedback here it seems like I won't be able to add an ultrabay GT755M in order to go SLI. Is it true that the non SLI version cannot supply enough power for 2 cards?
    - I ordered the 1080p anti glare screen since I always preferred the matte screens. How is the quality of this screen? Color gamut, viewing angles and so on.
    - I can pretty much see one M2 (NGFF) SSD for sale in Amazon. Amazon.com : MyDigitalSSD SC2 Super Cache 2 42mm SATA III 6G M.2 NGFF M2 SSD Solid State Drive (128GB) : Computer Internal Solid State Drives : Computers & Accessories There are few other Crucial brand ones but interesting enough I cannot see those models in Crucial website. So I am skeptical that they are genuine M2 Crucial drives. What's the best option for M2 SSD for this laptop?
    - I also ordered a 7260 AC wireless card. It seems like I have to use a modified bios in order to use the card. I am assuming that this will void the warranty. Do you guys suggest I wait until the warranty is over? I do have a AC router. What would be the real life speed difference between N and AC connections?

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe, but I really don't like how it behaves while browsing...it's very slow. I've tried multiple browsers, deleted cache, nothing seems to make it run smooth while browsing.

Newegg models ship with the N-2230. Lenovo.com models ship with the N-7260.

The AC version of the 7260 can only be installed if you have an older model which supports modded BIOS.

only the units on lenovo website have that 7260ac wifi card.

No, 7260ac is not available on Y510P. You will only get 7260 a/g/n but not 802.11ac.

Is that so? Anyway my main point is that the N-2230 is a faulty card while the 7260 isn't but not available in units that were in newegg. Thanks

I just received my Y510P. I have an issue with the trackpad. Two fingers context menu feature is not working even though I have enabled it through the Synaptics settings. Strange enough two finger scrolling is working. That's what made me think that this is not a hardware issue. The driver version is v17.0.10,12. There is a newer version in Synaptic website but the installation fails. Any ideas how to fix this issue?

The lenovo trackpad drivers disable two finger tap. If I remember correctly, you can open the context menu by pressing down with two fingers.
In order to enable two finger tap, you must turn off driver signing first, and then install the latest trackpad drivers from the synaptics website.

    Hi everyone,

I received my Y510P from Amazon yesterday and after a day of use I can say I'm digging this PC for what I need it for. Great value for money. I do have a couple of questions though. I have the dual SLI 755 version and the left side of my display is a tad yellower than the right side. I noticed this when checking for dead pixels upon arrival. It's not a dramatic difference especially with display brightness up but I thought I'd ask around to see if any of your units displays this?

Also have any ordered the DVD drive for the ultra bay and if so where did you buy it from?

    Appreciate the replies!

Hey guys. What are your CPU and GPU temps during idle time. My CPU temps run from 55-60 while idle. Is this normal?

Also I have my y510p SLI (750m, 4700) for about six months now and I always play NBA 2k14. But since yesterday, while playing I am experiencing throttling issues. My CPU reaches temperatures of 98 Degrees and throttles down to 800mhz. I really don't know what caused this. I already tried the Dust Removal Option on the Lenovo Energy Management but the problem still persists. I installed different Nvidia drivers and still it did not resolved my throttling issues. I hope somebody could help me.

do you play with a laptop cooler?

Mine idles at 40 but i've undervolted and don't have SLI. With my limited knowledge....I would assume SLI shouldn't be doing anything at idle though. Are you sure it's set to only use SLI when it needs to? Optimus or whatever.

And I think everyone gets throttled here, but 800MHz?! That's insane, mine will throttle to 2.39GHz if it gets too hot.

I bet someone with SLI will be able to help you.

Have you fiddled with any settings?

I hear that synaptics are much better. Is there a way to switch or am I stuck with the elan one?

The problem with SLI is that it disables Optimus so even when you are sitting at the desktop idle, your 2 Nvidia GPUs are still active and adding extra heat into your laptop case. For single GPU systems, the next version of ThrottleStop uses updated Nvidia monitoring code and makes it easier to see when Optimus is enabled and the GPU is sleeping. Most other monitoring software keeps the GPU awake so isn't suitable for 24/7 use when using Optimus.

The single GPU systems are so cool and quiet when surfing the net that they feel like a netbook. TS 7.00 also lets you do some under volting and overclocking. Under volting probably won't do anything for your idle temps since your CPU should already be spending most of its idle time in one of the low power C States. Under volting helps reduce temps when your CPU is loaded.

I am not a big fan of the ELAN track pad but I might have just come up with a cheap fix. The biggest problem I find is that it is difficult to accurately click on anything because the mouse pointer can move just as you click on something or just as you release the mouse button. My fix was to put an ugly piece of Scotch tape over the bottom edge of the track pad where the buttons are. This kills the sensitivity of this area so when your finger is clicking on the mouse button, the mouse cursor is not moving all over the place. I might have to market this fix on EBay. :)

It would be so easy for ELAN to add a dead area like this to their software. Maybe someday.

Oh, wait, that's really worrying. With programs like gpu-z and intel extreme tuning (xtu) on my single graphics card, it's keeping it active the whole time?

And I might have to check out this throttlestop. I have xtu running all the time though and it seems to get the job done.

If you don't mind me asking, are you the creator of throttlestop? You seem to be advocating it a lot :p
    Does everyone recommend it here?

Regarding the on-screen cursor twitch when pressing the clickpad buttons, it's a design flaw and also happens on the Synpatics one, which is what I have. As you might've noticed, it's exacerbated by your mouse sensitivity setting. If you turn pointer speed in Windows way down to an unusable level, the twitches go away and you can click the buttons just fine without the cursor jumping all over the screen.

    Read unclewebb's subtitle. :p

And yes, ThrottleStop is awesome. My laptop wouldn't be performing up to its potential if it weren't for unclewebb and ThrottleStop.

I thought my forum avatar and where it says ThrottleStop Author under my name would have given it away. :)

Intel XTU is a useful program but it does not prevent the Y510P from randomly throttling the CPU speed down to 2.4 GHz. I paid for a 4700MQ so I like being able to use it at its rated speed as well as use its built in overclocking feature. As shipped by Lenovo, the bios in the Y510P prevents you from doing this. ThrottleStop is the one and only solution to this problem as far as I know.

I love GPU-Z but it accesses the GPU temperature sensors directly and this keeps the GPU constantly awake. ThrottleStop gets its GPU temperature information directly from the Nvidia driver so if the GPU is in a low power sleep state, it won't wake it up to see what temperature it is at. Reading temperature data via the Nvidia driver allows Optimus to work correctly.

With the Scotch tape mod my on screen cursor twitch when using the mouse buttons is down to practically zero. I know it sounds a little crazy but it makes this track pad so much more usable. For testing purposes all I had at hand was some double sided Scotch tape. Time to look around the house or head to the hardware store for some good stuff.
