Ok about my long post from before.

It its normal to have both Nvidia and Realtek audio drivers at the same time? Can I use Realtek drivers only? I kinda suspect Nvidia drivers are the reason of my problem...

Also can anyone just confirm if they get 5.1 surround sound when connecting the Y510p to a Home Theater?

    Thanks!

Are you talking about audio drivers? If so then the Nvidia ones only get used when you are using HDMI audio and they shouldn't interfere with anything else.

If he's nonSLI he might need to use the Intel ones too.

Ohh, so Nvidia Sound Drivers are only used for HDMI output? I see...

    I have SLI btw Jobine

Ok, on Playback devices I have "Speakers" (laptop ones) "X Device Name" (the one under Nvidia drivers pluged via HDMI) which emits sound on those devices and "Realtek Digital Output" when I click test on this I hear no sound on laptop neither on device pluged via HDMI but I see the green bars moving like if sound is happening.

Could possible be that this "Realtek Digital Output" should be the one to send audio properly via HDMI but Nvidia ones are interfering? (I dont know, just making up ideas on my mind to try everything I can) With that on mind I disabled (not uninstalled) Nvidia ones yersterday but "Realtek Digital Output" still emits no sound at all.

So what is "Realtek Digital Output" anyways?

Will purchasing the Recovery disc from Lenovo help to ensure that the one key recovery working, and to clean install windows 8.1 directly on the SSD?

Realtek digital out will only work using some sort of optical out which I don't believe the laptop has but maybe it is needed when using HDMI and the intel iGPU. The only two you really need are the Nvidia HDMI (for audio to your receiver) and Speakers (that should cover the headphones as well). Just leave the rest alone.

Thanks Varroa, the sad thing is that Nvidia Audio drivers are stubborn into thinking everything I plug have only 2 Channels Stereo Audio (it shows it like that on propieties)

I read that Realtek Digital Out can handle any digital output method like Optical Cable or HDMI but looks like its disabled or something... Then I read aboutt Dolby Digital Live into Realtek drivers for surround sound, maybe that is my solution...

Unlocked Realtek HD Audio Drivers (With Dolby Digital Live and DTS Interactive) | TechPowerUp Forums

Wonder if works on laptops too. I'll experiment...

    Thanks again!

PM user "Lafius", me and him managed to get 8.1 clean install without having to buy a disc from Lenovo, all you really need is the serial key that's in your BIOS, and an ISO of Windows 8 (NOT 8.1!!!!!) NON-PRO. You then later can upgrade to Windows 8.1 like you would install a service pack.

Also the 24GB SSD is too small for Windows 8.x, you will need Windows 7 for that, and getting everything to fit on the 24GB requires a fair amount of tweaks/hacks. This being said, if you have your own SSD with a larger capacity, that is a much more preferred option. Send me a PM and i'll see if i can help you.

Just received a single 750 Y510 w/ BD drive from the outlet yesterday... overall pleasantly surprised. I've been using it away from the outlet and I think 4 hours of battery without any effort and 5-6 with a dim screen, KB backlight off, and just taking notes/Chrome in class is possible. Gamed a little last night and it runs solid (I just returned a Q550 to BB which has the ULV i7, didn't know if the difference would be that big but it is.

2 quick questions, however: I have the matte 1920-1080 display, and the colors are not good. Like really bad. I increased saturation and lowered gamma in the Intel control panel and it's much better, but it's still nowhere near accurate, there's no shadow detail... is that just the way this display is? Does anyone have settings to try to better calibrate the display?

Other question - the install of Windows 8 seems pretty incomplete or somehow messed up. A lot of error messages, redirects, very slow at boot... will this iron out with regular updates or should I reinstall?

I have to say - keyboard is fantastic, speakers are the best I've heard on a laptop, and the build is totally acceptable for the under $800.

    Fellow Y510P owners.

I have done more research but I need help from the high warlords of the forums:
If money is no object to me...

    Can I take this:
    Y400 Removable DVD Burner DB35 | Lenovo | (US)

Take off the mounting brackets and presumably throw the dvd drive away...

Then attach this to my mounting brackets:
Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 Blu-ray BD-ROM Combo Drive Player - SATA

...and maybe, just maybe have an SLI laptop that's got a bluray drive I can swap out. I just want to actually utilize that ultrabay.

I'd be interested to know as well - I'm looking to find a way to put some kind of optical drive into a y510p w/ dual graphics. The DB36 which was made for the y510p is no longer manufactured and cannot be found for sale.

Well I have Y510p Matte Screen and had before a Y500 Glossy Screen (wich was very bright and nice colors). I feel the Y510p Matte Screen very good in colors accuracy but I think that is my point of view, but I didnt feel any major change after coming from the 1080p bright glossy screen of Y500.

    Y510p SLI - AC Adapter 170W

I am locking for a second AC adapter for the y510p (SLI, 170W). The org. is labled with 45N0111, but is very expensive in the stores.
I can find the 0A36231 (for ThinkPad W520; W530) or 4X20E50578 ThinkPad Slim Tip (for W540) for half the price with the technical same specs (20V, 8.5A) for i.e. Both have different plugs. But it might be easy to replace them, when you are able to solder.

Is there anyone who tried a different AC adapter?

OK, day 3 and the stability issues are kind of huge. The stupid screen saver they enable at the factory doesn't load half the time and requires a hard reboot. iTunes keeps freezing the entire system. The registry is full of errors. I just tried a refresh but it hasn't fixed anything. Are there any meddlesome apps I can uninstall? I really like this laptop and plan to keep it for a few years but these first few days haven't been super easy.

It sounds like your Windows has problem. You can try to restore factory setup using One Key Recovery. Beware that it will wipe out all data. So, back everything up first.

I gave OneKey a try, reinstalled everything, and so far it seems better. It still won't complete any updates, but I'm hoping the 8.1 download in the background finished and might bring some improvements. Also waiting to try out Borderlands 2 so hopefully I can have some fun later. Thanks everyone!

Hi everybody I'm looking to buy a 755 sli model. And the only model that has that configuration is one with a "Glare" display. I've spent many hours trying to find out if it's actually pure glossy or matte. Can someone that has bought a glare model please tell me what type of finish the "Glare Wedge" is?? Glossy or matte???

You can password-protect the BIOS, so even if they boot with the novo button and click "bios setup", they will require a password to change settings. But they can still use the boot menu. This being said, drive encryption will protect you from all rootkit attacks. Also, with Secure Boot, unauthorized rootkits (most of which linux-based) will not be able to be loaded without access to the BIOS to actually disable Secure boot.

I just picked up a y510p with glare wedge and it's indeed a matte screen. I'm trying to upgrade to 8.1 but I don't see it in the Win Store. Do I need to install additional Lenovo updates before I can see 8.1?

Well guys, I got my 2nd y510p, and I'm afraid this one has to be returned as well.

The problem is that the LED display emits a high pitched whine whenever the brightness is lowered. At full brightness everything is silent, but I as soon I bring it down even one-brightness level the whining starts and it gets worse the lower I go. I tried upgrading the Nvidia drivers (750m sli) and taking out the sli card and using the integrated graphics, but the sound is still there.

Head to the (Metro) System settings, go to Windows Update, enable updates and update your system. Once you have installed all the recent updates, then you should be able to update to 8.1. Be warned that 8.1 offers very little over normal Windows 8, and 8.1 will break your SLI configuration, so you might have to apply the VBIOS fix on Lenovo's website in order to get SLI again.

Thanks. I guess I'll just stay with 8 for now, don't really see a reason to go 8.1. I have upgraded to 8.1 on a different machine and the Windows experience feels a little nicer/smoother but not a huge deal for me. also, does anyone have an issue with broken keys on their unit? My Z key is chipped and won't stay on right... How can I go about asking for a replacement key?

Windows 8 will not be supported in a year and a half. Just a heads up. For the chipped key, you should look into purchasing a replacement keyboard, which can cost from 50 to 70 dollars.

I recall reading on either here or the Lenovo forum about this problem. It was mentioned that the key was installed wrongly. You need to remove the clamping part that supposes to keep the key and base together and flip it around. Then you should be able to fix the key back on keyboard.

Try searching for the original post.

Well, I called up Lenovo and they agreed to send me a replacement keyboard within warranty ( I just got the laptop last week), but I'd have to get someone locally, like an authorized service provider, to put it in for me to keep from voiding the warranty. Anyone have luck trying to get this work done without being charged? The Lenovo rep said that I would likely be charged for the labor done, which doesn't seem right for a week old laptop.

There nothing on the TechInferno either yet, its a real shame. I want to push past 1300Mhz Core but im limited to 1228Mhz Core on the stock Bios.

Is the modded bios needed to undervolt the CPU at all?

Yeah I discovered it a while ago now and have been testing for my undervolt limit. The temps on this thing are all over the place when running some tests and benches.

I also discovered that there is a utility in the BIOS to enable the ability to revert back to older BIOS revisions...anyone tried using this?

EDIT: found BIOS v2.07 and successfully flashed to it from v3.05 all is working well, thanks to svl7. Now I need to find a credible source for the 1.10 BIOS as lenovo has taken it down from their website it seems.

Just remember after flashing that you will need to re-enable legacy support if your using Windows 7 as it resets all your settings to stock (naturally)

I have 1.07 (bought my laptop 2 days after y410p came out). I can send you my BIOS dump but use at risk. If you brick your system it's not my fault. Note that i don't think V1x BIOSes support GT 755M, i have GT 750M in mine (well, massively OC'ed :)).

My only issue with sending you my BIOS is that if i do so, and you get it working, i will basically have given you my Windows 8 license, as i run Windows 7 on mine.

I'll think about that, did some research and cant find any machines with 755m and 1.10 BIOS. It would really be a coin toss to see if that would work, and even then I would still need to find out if the GPU's would be flashible as well. I know Im just a username on these forums as Im much more active on OCN but I wouldnt use your Win8 key. I prefer Windows 7 overall.

Back on topic though, what clocks do you have your 750m? I have successfully pushed +135 core and +100 memory. I cant get much more after that on "stock volts" So in short 1228 core, rather proud of that one lol...

I want to bench this thing like nobodies business so I can recommend this laptop from an objective viewpoint.

EDIT: Something else worth noting is that I do NOT have the modded bios and my Wireless card is working perfectly (7260 N) Im not sure if this one needed the modded bios in order to work though...
