Yes, you can disable SLI in the NVidia control panel and run only the main GPU. You can also set the ultrabay GPU to run only Physx, so it doesn't go totally to waste :)

You can put a HDD in the ultrabay spot, but you need the ultrabay HDD caddy accessory.

To OC, download MSI afterburner and turn up both the Core Clock and Memory Clock.

Cooling pads? Try the Accessories forum:

NVIDIA Optimus takes care of that automatically.

    edit: nevermind, found it!
how does optimus work if I set it to autoselect a gpu?
does it use the integrated when I'm on battery power, and the gt750m when i'm plugged in?

It uses integrated when you're not doing any games/3d stuff, and switches to nvidia when you are.

Anyone here tried Razer Surround? I installed it many times but it never detected my headphones, even though it detects them on my friends laptop

I agree, thought it was too good to pass up. Only downside for me was the lack of the mSATA connector, but I'll live!

Get a Msata Caddy (allows you to replace your 2.5 HDD with dual Msatas) or buy a M.2 drive from MyDigitalSSD.

Does anyone with a 510p have the issue where their machine plays a hardware disconnect/connect beep when it resumes from sleep? It happens to me on every resume, even though nothing has been inserted or removed.

It will do that if you already had any USB devices or drives plugged in when you put the laptop to sleep since power over USB is cut during sleep and resumes after waking up.

Another question: is there a 3rd party utility to limit the FPS of games, or would it only be a per-game setting (if available in the game)? I really don't need my games running at 250 FPS, if it's going to max out the GPU temps. I'd be happy with 60 FPS, especially if it means a cooler laptop :)

Well, that was a BIG mistake. Upgraded to Win 8.1, installed the vbios. And now my game doesn't see any GPU's, and the system just did a hard crash.

Looks like I might have to reformat.

    You have been forewarned...

Edit: maybe just an uninstall of my game, MSI Afterburner, and Coretemp will be enough.

Nvidia Inspector and RTSS have FPS limiters. Most games also have built-in console commands or config file settings to limit FPS.

Works fine on my Y500. Make sure your Realtek audio driver is installed first before installing Razer Surround.

Luckily a reinstall of my game and MSI Afterburner has things working smoothly again. SLI working as required :)

I'll look into the FPS limiters...

Edit: Wow, that RTSS that is built into MSI Afterburner really does the trick! Smooth play at 60FPS, and temps barely reach 50C :)

Btw is it normal that the CPU's temperature reaches 60C when I don't have anything open but Skype and Chrome?(CPU usage is 3-4%)

it also depends of the ambient temperatures..it would not be the same if you'll use it at a room temperatures of 22 degrees or 30 degrees..keep that in mine too HUSH1994 ;) if u look at temps while u open a browser or actually give the CPU something to process, even if is something light like explorer or skype that will give it a light load like 3-4% temps will fluctuate..49-60 clesius, because the 3-4% load would settle only while u won't do any operations on it..but when u hit a button to open something the CPU load will be much more, even if it's for 1-2 seconds so the temps will rise instantly...so if you don't touch the notebook and just stay and look at it and the temps are standing still at about 60 degrees that's to high for sure and might have some problems..but if you have those tems in scenarios that i presented above, then it's normal and u can rest assured ;)

I just recently updated to Windows 8.1 and have had the following problem:

There is a water mark on my desktop stating, "SecureBoot isn't configured correctly." In BIOS, it is enabled but SecureBoot Status is disabled and it is unchangable. [IMG]

I've tried loading defaults but it won't do anything. What other steps could I take?

    See this MS update:

Update removes the "Windows 8.1 SecureBoot isn't configured correctly" watermark in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

Hey guys, seems like Lenovo is offering a bunch of new y510p configurations. Some have Windows 8.1. Others have the 755m. Some have an Anti-Glare screen. Some have a new wifi card.

YES YES YES YES YES YES

My issue is that older model users, should they require to download a BIOS update to use the new 7620?

Hmmmm, that's nice but the price is much too high. $1599 for SLI and a new wireless card and 16GB ram. I don't see the 24GB SSD on the $1599 SLI model either. That would be a deal killer for me.

I'm already tempted to move to the Alienware 14 I have sitting here unopened.

That $1599 price is Alienware territory. I don't think that's going to work for Lenovo.

    Cheers,

They obviously have not applied some discounts, though you can always call to order and have a custom model?

Why Alienware 14? Replacing your laptop so early? Imho you should just wait for Maxwell.

Unless you have a convertible ultrabook (which the Y510P isn't), I don't see why a touch screen is important. I'd rather not have fingerprint smudges on my games :p

Touch screen isn't important....but the Microsoft Store is allowing for preorders for one with a touch screen.....it is unclear if Lenovo is upgrading the y510p with a touch screen or Microsoft upgrading it themselves...

Got paid in hardware for a contract gig. Tempted to switch. Not sure. I have both for sale and whichever sells first I'll keep the other. Though since my y510p is already setup and working perfectly I sort of hope the brand new in box Alienware sells. :)

The Alienware will sell for much higher on eBay, i would advise you sell it.

For example, if the AW sells for 1500 on Dell.com, try selling it on eBay for around 1400, you will easily get paid.

Though it would be best to try out the laptop.

The temperature in the room is somewhere around 23C, and that is when I don't open any intensive applications, and the weird thing is that it goes up to around 75C only after playing Crysis 2 with ultra setting for 1-2 hours :s

^I know that, which is why I am surprised. If browsing and using skype(IM) makes the temperature go up to 60C, then the temperature I get after playing Crysis 2 is almost too good :s
