So I went into advanced power settings and turned off adaptive brightness on both battery and plugged in. And it worked for a while until (I think) I restarted it. And I can't seem to find the Intel HD control panel.

Should be in the control panel.

    Otherwise reinstall your drivers.

    Hi
Opened up my new y510p today to see where this 25gb SSD is - I was expecting it to be easily accessible - however I cant see it
I have an ssd slot with a connector but no ssd - btw is this definitely an m.2 connection??

So now Im wondering what to do - Ive bought a caddy and was going to buy a full size ssd and put the mechanical hard drive in the caddy

Just wondering how I would remove the 25gb ssd now???

I also gather I cant swap the wireless card out? Without modding the bios

I also dont like all this bloatware on the laptop - really I would like to remove all the partions and recovery partitions and install windows 8 fresh

I have the oem key - can I just use that?

Or can I use a previous key bought from MS (that laptop has now died) and just transfer over?

    Thanks for any info guys

i had shortlisted the 510p after lots of web surfing, but i dont mean to sound a bit greedy but today or the other day, one model on the US site was updated with a 755M (the lowest spec model).

i would play games and for long and since FHD gaming isnt good enough unless its 765M or above, i want the 755M in this case. how much of a difference would it actually make? 750M and 755M?

Basically 2-5% difference, because 755 is just OC'd 750. Nothing you can't do yourself with MSI afterburner.

how do the 410p screen (900p HD+) visbility, contrast, brightness, etc and battery life stand against the 510p's (Full HD)?

    400:1 contrast for Y410p vs 700:1 contrast Y510p.

This pretty much sums it up. However both are TN panels with the same viewing angles.

The main reason you would want to go for a Y410p over a Y510p is the 50-100$ lower price, the improve native frame rates, 1 pound lower weight and the fact that there is no annoying number pad.

However the Y510p has a better display, larger battery, aluminum (fingerprint magnet) cover and SLI support for not that much more.

Hey all, I've been keeping an eye on the y510p when I first heard about it and tempted to buy one before Christmas however I have a question hopefully someone could answer... Can you hook it up to a tv (via HDMI) and set that as the primary screen/disable the laptop screen and run both graphics cards in SLI still? One of the main reasons why I want to get this laptop is to allow me to quickly hook it up to my 50inch tv for games I can use my controller with..while I really like this laptop, if I can't benefit from the SLI of the 750s (or 755s or whatever is actually in them) then I'm probably better looking elsewhere if I want to run games on decent graphic settings.

The Y500 can do this and I see no reason why the Y510p would be different.

SLI won't work with Win8.1 and those drivers without a vbios update, which lenovo will presumably release at some point in the future. Probably will work with Win 8, but I don't have a y510p so I can't tell you for sure.

    What is WE?

I'm on win 8, will not go on 8.1. Will my sli work with r331. Or do I have to roll back to a previous driver? I'm pretty sure sli worked when I was running crysis 3 earlier

WE = WEI = Windows Experience Index, which is basically MicroSoft's crappy benchmark that barely means anything.

Are there any Y510p models (preferably retail) that have SLI and the NGFF connector?

Also, how well does this laptop handle Linux? I hear non-SLI has to deal with Optimus/Bumblebee while SLI apparently doesn't work properly.

    Hi guys,
I'm in no hurry to upgrade my notebook, but was thinking about doing it by christmas or january so I wanted to know when you think Lenovo will update the Y410p/Y510p line. I'd actually buy the Y410p right now but since there is no SLI yet (and by this I mean mass production, not bios changes and engenieering ultrabays and stuff), I have no reason to do it as of this moment. Y510p SLI is nice but I much prefer a 14", but who knows I may change my mind with some time.
So thats my question guys, when do you think Lenovo will announce a facelift or upgrade, will it be in CES or later? may? june?, or have there been any chinese leaks or smth?

Thanks guys, you are awesome I always read your threads.

Doesn't work on Y510p/Y410p with single GPU due to Optimus. Only works on Y500 and Y510p/Y410p SLI. :(

Should play fine on high-medium settings @ 720p if you are using the Single GPU. GTA is a CPU intensive game more than anything.

Hello Lenovo ideapad experts. Have had a Y510p for a couple of months with the 4700mq and a single GT750m. Also updated to windows 8.1 DVD drive is in the ultrabay slot. 24gb SSD included. I think that's how it works. I'd like to do everything in my power to get this gaming optimized as well as not overheating. Couple questions, bear with me, not too tech savvy.

    1) All I need to SLI my laptop is to buy that additional 750m from lenovo ( that someone linked) and swap out my DVD drive with it?

    2) Will this increase the overall heat of my laptop?

    3) I'm guessing that we had to wait for them to release it, because we couldn't just buy a regular 750m because it needs to fit the laptop?

    4) What's this I hear about people activating the HD 4600. That's the integrated graphics card right? Does it help in gaming to use both the intergrated and discrete? It doesn't do that automatically?

    5) I have a U3 cooler master to help with heat. Is there anything else I should do to help with overheating? Drivers? I placed the fans on the left where it gets the hottest. Is that the right configuration?

    6) People are reporting gaming temps of 80-90 degrees celcius! Isn't that crazy high? Doesn't it shut down at 100 degrees celcius?

    7) What program should I use to monitor temperature? I use real temp since apparently that's designed for these kind of laptops/motherboard. But I'm skeptical...It's around 80-90 playing SC2, seconds after I alt tab, it goes down to 60. I feel like its reporting more of a projection/estimate, instead of real tempatures. Am I mistaken? I don't really know hot it works.

7.5) I just realized realtemp is only measuring four things. I'm guessing thats the 4 cores. Does it measure GPU as well? Or should I only be worried about those cores.

    8) Do you guys update your drivers like every month? I thought most people were saying if it ain't broke don't fix it. What should I do?

    9) Apparently, there are multiple ways to update your drivers which further confuses me. I mean, you can update from device manager, windows automatic updates, or straight from Lenovo. What's the difference? Shouldn't it auto update though? Should I just update straight from this? Lenovo Support - Drivers & Software (US)

    10) Can't you get drivers straight from the manufacturer? I didn't know laptop companies would help with these drivers. I mean, all the parts/drivers are from other companies. Is this just lenovo helping us out?

    11) Is SLI the best option for me? Or is it possible to get a gtx m of some sort to replace my one GT750m.

    12) I can adjust my screens resolution to 720p? That'll probably help with FPS and heat right?

    13) Don't feel like I need to swap out my 5400 for an SSD just yet. I mean, load times will be faster, but is a couple of seconds really worth it? That's what I've been told so far anyway. Does anyone disagree?

    14) Anything else I need to know about to help with gaming/heat? What settings/configuration do you guys recommend? I guess I'm just overly concerned with heat. All I've tried is SC2 on low settings (albeit at 1080p) and that already makes that area on the left where the fan is super hot. I would assume going to max would help my laptop.

Combed through about 50 pages of this thread, realized just how many there were and figured I'd just ask. Would appreciate any help!

    1) Yep. 230$ USD on Lenovo's site! Get it before they run out!

    2) Yes, definitely

    3) Yeah

    4) The HD4600 can only be used if no graphics card is present in the ultrabay. Thats why i recommend keeping the DVD drive to swap between performance and battery life

    5) You can repaste, but you might void your warranty. Repasting the ultrabay does not void the warranty. Guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...-pictures-disassembled-y500-ultrabay-gpu.html

    6) It *might* shut down at 100. However, these temps are sadly the norm for Haswell gaming laptops :(

    7) Speedfan/CPU-Z/GPU-Z/HWinfo/etc.

    8) Updating your drivers = better SLI profile support. I recommend updating your drivers when new versions come out. If anything goes wrong you can rollback.

    9) Get your GPU drivers from Nvidia and/or Intel. The rest can be taken from Lenovo.

    10) Lenovo only provides an older, albeit failproof driver. However the new drivers offer a nice boost in performance and compatiblity.

    11) SLI is your only option for increasing graphics performance, aside from overclocking (which can be done on both GPUs)

    12) Should help with FPS and reduce microstutter. Heat? Probably not.

    13) Not a SLI owner, can't help you on that one.

Ah, so that's why the new $800 model has a 755m. So if you want any chance of SLI, you have to go with a more expensive 750m model.

Edit: wait, if the 755m is just an overclocked 750m, maybe they're SLI-compatible...

Thanks for quick reply Jobine. Buy it fast? T_T they might sell out???

The thing is, I might switch between low performance and high performance games. For example..oblivion and skyrim. When I'm running oblivion (crazy old game by now) with some mods, it will probably be very undemanding and not overheat (I hope). If I have SLI, will it still be using both cards and creating crazy heat? Should I just take it out when I'm playing low performance games?

Whats that "5" at the end btw on that link. GT750m5. Mine is just GT750m

One last thing. How did you find that gt750m removable card? I can't seem to find the "graphics card" section. Home > graphics card > y15'' ....can't seem to find graphics card section. Even searching for it under several different names still doesn't show it.

Oh I already found the link you posted from before. But it just bugs me that I can't manually find it. **edit** (if i could cross out text i would) - found it. looking in wrong place.

And is overclocking my current card a better solution to SLI? What are the downsides to overlocking on these laptops/cards specifically.

Not sure if it comes with the brick. If it doesn't, there are a few small tweaks you can do to reduce power consumption.

I don't know if anyone ordered it yet, try the Lenovo forums.

No. The keys are fine. The vents just constantly spew out hot air so don't have anything blocking them. You can feel the warmth where you rest your palm and the inch border on the left side is rather warm but still playable.

Well of course it'd be useless for you, unless you just wanted an Android device in which case a tablet would be more cost-effective. But for the right audience, there's currently nothing like Shield out there on the market.

Guys I'm having an issue with my Y510P... It was booting really fast yesterday, and then today it suddenly starts like a snail like 3x slower than yesterday...
Things that I tinker with the laptop yesterday:
Enabled always on USB on BIOS
    Uninstalled some adware/bloatware
Uninstalled and restored McAfee, then uninstalled it again to be replaced with Avast
    Played games
    Updated GPU drivers
Used CCleaner to wipe registry errors

I also noticed that when I go on chrome the default homepage has change to some qone8 search engine and no longer google? I'm suspecting a malware or virus going on, but maybe some of you can point whats going on. I also received an error from windows today, something to do with restarting. I forgot the complete details.

Someone will be able to help you here more, but installing some things like avast come packaged with annoying little programs that hijack your home page/search bar and even pretend to be google or whatnot. You'll need to google the problem...aka "chrome windows 8 how to remove qone8 search engine".

in the future it's advised to do custom install to untick the boxes that say things like "make qone8 your default search engine". I'm not sure it would make it 3x slower, but it definitely shouldn't be there so try it out. Who knows what else it installed.

I picked up my y510p last week and am loving it. It plays BF4 through HDMI on my 39 inch led tv perfectly without getting too hot.

    A few questions

    1) In order to use the 24gig SSD drive do I have to have the files I want to access quickly located in that drive? (I'm going to guess so)

    2) is there someway through HDMI that I can have BF4 playing on my TV and have a blank desktop on my laptop? I cant seem to find a way to do this.

    3) also what is a good free recorder i could use to record games?

    Thanks

    Hello All,

I'm currently deployed in the middle east and decided to do some gaming. I just ordered and received my lenovo y510p. It has the single 755m card and all the other little things. When I opened my internet would drop every 10 mins for about 5 minutes. I read about this issue and when I updated the wifi drivers to the newest version it seems to have solved the problem.

My biggest problem is this though. When clicking the start button ( a stupid acorn) and going to control panel, when I click on anything under the control panel tab it doesn't open up. I have go through the all apps to get into anything. So whats the point of the ease of access control panel when nothing opens? Any help here?

Thats really the only issues I have had except now having to wait for the 755m to come out, so I can SLI.

For those who are undervolting their 510p, what voltage offsets are you using? I just started using the Intel ETU and I undervolted my CPU by 100mV but I have no idea how much I can undervolt my GPU or cache. Any suggestions?

I would say the 70 to 120 zone is good, however it really depends on your chip. Some chips can go lower than others. Mine BSOD's at 95, so i put it at 87 to be safe. Your results may vary.

Go to control panel and uninstall Pokki, will get rid of that POS start menu.

just got the iGPU to run at -50mV so that is a good start. I also played with the turbo boost ratio (32x,31x,30x,29x) and I am getting no throttling and pretty good temps (max 76C with all 4 cores running 100% at 2.9Ghz) so that is pretty good. Going to keep tweaking this until I find an optimal balance. Idle temps are 44c after all this testing and it has had time to settle.

Now I am at -100mV CPU, -75mV CPU cache and -75mV iGPU and it appears to be stable. Doing a 1 hour CPU stress test just to make sure. This is with the turbo function at 32x/31x/30x/29x so all 4 cores are running at 2.9Ghz instead of the 2.4Ghz.

Throttling on the Y series only occurs if you run the GPU at full load while the CPU is stressed. Try MSI Kombuster when you stress your CPU, check for throttling. Watch your temps.

The 4900MQ runs at 2.8ghz on stock and the 4930MX runs at 3.0ghz on stock.

Well 20 min into the 1 hour stress test and it dropped the CPU down to 2.4Ghz so I stopped the test at 25 mins in. At stock voltage it would do that almost immediately so that is pretty good. Temps never went above 80c the entire time either. So basically I can run this thing for 20 min at 2.9Ghz turbo mode (all 4 cores) before it drops back to the stock 2.4 Ghz mode on all 4 cores.
