FPS drop is a result of the power management system.
Try setting the Power Profile to High Performance and going to Nvidia control Panel and doing the same with settings over there.

It is not a defect but a consequence of running on batteries which can only provide a limited output.

I agree there still is not such a thing as an unplugged gaming laptop regardless of manufactor or a company like apple.

Razer edge pro it's the only exception I know of...and the battery lasts a whole 45 minutes lol. You're right though, all graphics cards throttle on battery and usually switch to integrated graphics. No switching for this machine though

But it still will throttle the GPU to go something like 135 MHz and there aren't any settings to change it (at least on the Y400/500).

I've been following the Lenovo Y500 for ~2 months now. Reading reviews, user-feedback etc. Now, when I finally decide to move in for the kill, this (Lenovo Y510p) happens. -_-
Serious dilemma. Now I have to wait for the reviews, user-feedback (etc) for this too?

Actually, the long wait, research et al was till a good deal came up on the lenovo site. For the dual GT750M version. Now I want the Y510p. I've seen many here who seem to know a 'rep' who could help me/us with a good deal. Any information about this rep would help (financially lol).

Hi TheSonu. Could you email/PM me the reps details please? Email ([email protected]). Mods please don't remove personal details. After all, I am divulging that information willingly, right?

No and frankly, you don't want to. The battery drain would be so harsh, you might overheat your battery. Even at half the frequency, you're looking at 30 minutes of battery life while playing a game. I'll never play a game unplugged though. The whole point of a gaming laptop is not to be unplugged - it's to have the ability of having a near desktop experience on the road.

I've been using a Y500 for almost a month with no bugs. For the price(I paid $1150 for the 16GB SLI version), there's really no better deal. Correct me if I'm wrong.

i hate SLi, and problems with games (drivers and No use of the sli etc...) why loosing the Optical drive instead of putting a single Gpu( GTX 760M or GTX 765M) they could have made a Lenovo Y590 with this model :) Optimus stable + Single Gpu (high end) + normal design :)

Yes I agree SLI can cause some problems with older games. But I like what lenovo has done with this model. Slimmer and lighter is the way of the future. The Sli 750m GPU's are slightly more power then the GTX 765M. Optical drives are no longer needed. It's pretty much old tech at this point.

Random Rep its offering me only $50 discount before taxes :(

From $1,299.00 to $1,249.00. Should I go with that? :(

I asked for "student discount" (just randomly trying something) and he ended up with that, and said he coudnt discount more.

Please, can anyone help me to get any better discount? Can mail me to [email protected]. Thanks a lot in advance!

I just bought Y510p from Frys and it doesn't look like it has a regular MSATA slot in there. The regular MSATA connector has 1 indentation. This 24GB MSATA drive has 2 indentations on it and the PCB board itself is a little smaller. I'll take a picture of it when I get home.

Just placed my order for the y510p this morning! I built up some rapport with the first sales rep that picked up, asked for a "student discount/education bundle", and then asked if the price could be brought down just a little bit more to fit into my budget.
    y510p, 24gb ssd, 8gb ram, single 750m, dvd.
$1,029 down all the way to $909!

Ok so I came close.. basically same price but no extras like the warranty case or mouse. How the heck did the other guy get the Barnes&Noble discount on top of this price?? Feels like a good deal until I see his $940.80

Could you please clarify this further youdontknowmeeh? A picture would be great and much appreciated. Does that mean a normal msata ssd drive won't fit anymore? Because I recently bought a Crucial m4 256gb mSata SSD that I used for my y500 before returning it for this laptop, and from what you're saying, it might not even fit in the y510p?

Could any y510p owner verifiy if a normal msata SSD will still fit/if the laptop is able to hold an msata ssd?

    Thanks!

Well, first of all the particular model I chose is probably different from the one you are speaking of. (See: "y510p, 24gb ssd, 8gb ram, DVD")
On Lenovo's site, the current sales price is 1,029. When I called, I built up some rapport (basically small talk, get to know your sales rep a little on the personal level. Ex: We chatted about Mustangs for about 5 minutes.) Then a smooth, polite transition into business, pricing.
Just be polite, don't be obvious that your #1 concern in the lowest price possible (even it it really is!)

Please send a picture. I'm not sure what you mean by indentations. I assumed it was the same port as the Y500(hopefully it is). It should be roughly 6.8-7.0 inches long

I don't believe that deal. Lenovo doesn't even sell the model that Newegg has so I can't see how they would match the price. My guess is he got a single card model with $50 from the Barnes and Noble deal.

Just purchased the y510p at Fry's yesterday. Even though it says 8gb ssd on their site, the computer does have a 24gb ssd. Also after running 3dmark11, it posted a score of 5080 in sli config.

Usually the outside vendors all carry the same model numbers. I bet they are identical. Besides...I don't even know where you would GET an 8GB cache SSD these days :) I was shocked they still packed a 16GB in the Y500s. Sure it helps, but the 24GB and 32GB drives are so cheap now.

I got 4490 when I did mine last month. That was stock with 750M SLI. I can't explain how the score goes up by 500 merely from a CPU change

I'm an engineer - can't figure it out. :) The specs between the processors are so similar that I would have stuck with the Y500 if it wasn't for the deal you(and now I) got. There's no Optimus so the battery savings really aren't THAT effective. But now it's clear as day, there is a definite advantage to having the Y510p. Glad I took the plunge! One thing is for sure - Intel must have ironed some efficiencies out in this design. Even with the same clock speeds, etc, they manage to get a 10% boost in power and supposedly have battery savings as well.
