Very impressive results! I scored 5200 but only by overclocking the crap out of my machine.

Do any of you know how the y510p would compare to the Sager np8230. They both have similar specs except for teir grapics card. (750m sli vs. 770m) Would the Sager have better battery life? They are both priced about the same. Around $1300

NP8230 is thicker and heaver around 6.8 pounds. The keyboard is not backlit but it is not chic-let which is a positive in my eyes. You get optimus which will save battery life with a single GPU solution. Graphic and power wise they are both very similar. The 770m appears to be slightly more powerful but Y510P takes advantage of Intel smart response technology. Once you add more ram and a SSD you're looking at a more expensive laptop. Looks alone the Y510P is a very attractive laptop. While the NP8230 is very simply in design. Both are professional looking. Another factor to consider is the NP8230 is upgradeable in the hands of a professional. It's really up to personal choice.

His GPU is already overclocked or it's a fluke. Maybe he's using non-standard settings. There's no way GT 750M SLI scores that high in the Performance preset at stock.

Only thing Haswell brings is 10% better performance overall. Plus and you can look this up is Double the Vector Processing performance over Ivy Bridge, that sounds important.

it must be the mentioned Double the Vector processing performance of Haswell over Ivy Bridge.

Where the hell is "double the vector processing performance" even applicable? If you can't even answer that there's no point bringing it up all the time because it's just marketing and you're falling for it.

Did you even see the 3DMark 11 screenshot he provided? His P5000+ score was primarily due to the high Graphics score. His Physics score was lower than the 3630QM, no doubt due to not using ThrottleStop.

Sorry if messaging you there is a little creeperish XD Just trying to get a good price for this thing, and don't want to wait a goddang month for the Y500.

You mean you brokered a deal for the new Y510p? What price did you get it at? Can you let me know who to talk to to get the same deal? Thanks!

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forums here so I wanted to introduce myself to everyone.

I have some questions on which Y500 model to get. I currently have the original Y500 with the GT650M. I still am able to return it and get a full refund. Is it worth just returning this model and getting the new Y510p?

My reasoning when I bought this lappy was to get a second 650M card and buy the 170 watt power supply. Unfortunately the 650m sli card is no longer anywhere to be found. I paid $650 for the system I have no from Lenovo outlet. Is it worth spending the 1200+ to just get the newer model with both cards and power supply included, as well as the benefit of having the Haswell architecture?

lenovo has a 21 return policy no re-stocking fee right? you should check your receipt for information. but since i think you purchase through outlet, maybe the policy is different.

Just ordered the y510p from Newegg as I got an RMA for my Y500 from Lenovo. Price point is a wash except I'm losing 4GB of Ram(16GB to 12GB). I'm particularly interested in the "Anti-glare" screen which I think is a typo like the Y500 was. I'll be able to compare them before I ship the Y500 back(assuming I do), however I'm transferring a SSD from one to the other so it won't be side by side. Both models will have 750M SLI so I'll have equal specs except for ram and of course the CPU. If there's any specific requests that I should test for, let me know.

Also - does anyone know if mismatched ram is still slower than matched pairs or did Intel fix that issue. WTH did they make a model with an 8GB+4GB DIMM?

They are running a "special" and it's 30 days now. I got them to RMA mine and I'm 34 days after the order date. They did it because they took 2 weeks to get the laptop to me...

Same here. I had originally ordered a new Y500, that model wasn't to my liking since it had the bad trackpad, so I returned it. I then ordered the same model on the refurb outlet, and with the problems I had with my order the first time I got this one at the outlet price with an additional 25% off. So now, they have this new one, and I still have until the end of this month to return this model, I already confirmed it with the rep and have an RMA on ready, they told me to just call when I want to return it and replace with another machine.

So what I am trying to find out is, is the new Y510p worth getting or just get a refurb Y500 with the 750m in it and buy the card seperately?

I got the Lenovo Y510p Dual Graphics model, a 2 year warranty, the Wireless Mouse N3903A(US&WE-Metal), and the Lenovo Sport Slimcase - Blue, all for freaking $1,119.67 USD due to some rad Education Bundle that apparently only this sales rep guy new about cuz nobody else even mentioned a package whatsover. Pretty crazy. Only downside is 2-week shipping, but I'll hold off on criticism with this deal XD

I pad $660 with tax for the older Y500 with single GT650M

I just talked to their sales rep and got $1174 for price on the new Y510p with the dual GT750M SLI configuration.

Should I jump on this deal or keep my older refurb model? They are letting me return it if I decide to go with the new one.

The difference I would be getting in the machine is, supposedly slimmer model with the y510p, larger cache drive from 16GB with the older one to 24GB, I'm getting double the memory at 16 GB RAM instead of the 8GB in my old one, and ofcourse the newer processor being the Haswell type.

To anyone who owns the dual graphics version of this already, is how much thinner and lighter is it than the y500 dual graphics card version? Thanks!

Well since yours is a refurb, getting a newer one might be better. If you're willing to pay that much, it's a pretty sweet deal considering the thing should normally cost $1399 on their sale right now. Also, you could try asking them for that crazy package I got and try your luck haha.

Who is everyone talking to for the good deals? I plan on buying a y410p and the sales rep didn't give me any deals.

A laptop is my graduation present and its either going to be the y410p or the y510p....

What specs did the model you got have? I doubt it will take 2 weeks. They shipped mine in 2 days when they said 2 weeks last time. It only really took two weeks because ups lost the package

That's not happening. The machines in these big box stores are all running in demo mode and you can't install ANYTHING on them. You can't even run GPU-Z because of UAC and account restrictions. If you try to to ask the staff to put in the administrator password just for the one time they either refuse or conveniently "forget" it. I've gone through this same too many times to bother anymore.

Like I said earlier, I got the Y510p Dual Graphics model. I don't care what their estimated shipping date is, I just want this now! XD
UPS better not screw this up. And since this is a new model, I'm guessing it won't ship any time soon cuz of high demand haha.

Well if I get mine on time I can check its specs and 3D mark and whatnot. I'm guessing that other people like articreaver will get theirs before I do tho XD

Alright so I ordered a Y500 750m SLI about a week ago and it is currently being shipped to me house. I was wondering how returns worked with Lenovo. If I call tomorrow will they reroute the laptop or will I have to wait for it to arrive before I try to return it? I think I'm going to buy the Y510p off Newegg. They won't make me buy the Y510p from them right?

    Hey Ice Cold,

Just a quick question pertaining to your RMA. I just processed mine as well and dropped my y500 at a UPS hub to return it. I was wondering if you included your invoice inside your package. I was only told to attach my shipping label and write my RMA # on top of the box and, as such, I did not include my invoice. However, I'm not sure if I was supposed to have included my invoice as well and this is worrying me a bit (e.g. what if they reject my RMA because of this). Thanks

Also, TheSonu, if you could please email me the Lenovo Rep's info to (my fake name/spam email) [email protected] that would be much appreciated!
