I would say its single GPU, at any point of the descriptions they mention SLI, Dual Graphics, 2 Cards or anything like that. Sounds totally like the description of single card one.

I talked to someone from tigerdirect last night.
He said that the laptop comes with an extra fan in the ultrabay.... but those aren't even available on the lenovo website, so I don't believe them.
Also, I looked up the model number last night and two laptops from frys and bestbuy had the same number, and they were both sli models with 8 gb of ram.
Ughhhh I wish I could know for sure

I just stumbled on this thread today because I was thinking about buying the y510p. I was wondering if someone still following this thread has the Lenovo rep's info, TheSonu?. I would really like to get a discount if possible. My spam email is [email protected] if someone could send me the reps info.

For those with a 510, once you tell the comp to sleep, how long does it take for it actually to enter sleep (throbbing power light)

About 10 seconds. I think this is due to the ssd caching software.

My guess is it takes a while to enter sleep because it's writing the data, and resume is essentially instantaneous because of the ridiculous SSD read speeds

Sleep doesnt write data, Hibernate does. Sleep shuts off everything except the RAM. Hibernate saves the RAM to hiberfile.sys, then powers off all components.

Several people are reporting receiving these. I got one of the Newegg SLI versions with the 4700QM CPU before they were discontinued. It just came with the matte screen. No gloss at all, no glass like the mac, no reflection whatsoever.

Benchmarks for the 750m SLI are up at Notebookcheck NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M SLI - NotebookCheck.net Tech
Very impressive, equal or slightly better 680m in some cases! Like Borderlands 2 Ultra at 75 fps , Tomb Raider for example, 45.3 fps on Ultra. BioShock Infinite 38.9 fps on Ultra vs 30fps for the 770m, in fact it looks like its better than the 770m with a bunch of games, in Skyrim, Alan Wake, and Borderlands 2 also. Basically any game that is properly taking advantage of SLI performs best, and it seems most new games do support SLI. Very impressive overall, and I can't to get my Y510p!

Should work without issue. There's a caddy covered in foil under the bottom cover. I replaced my 1TB drive without even turning it on. Cloned to Samsung 840 500GB drive and voila super fast system with plenty of room for gaming goodness.

    Cheers,

I've been enjoying mine a lot over the last month, but it does get hot. Using a Cooler Master Notepal U3 while playing Skyrim (with Nvidia inspector profile) the second card tops out at 98C. Main at 82C. I know the ultrabay isn't as well cooled, much less venting and copper, but just be warned that it does get warm after a half hour or so. I don't OC it for that very reason. All in all a great deal on a machine.

Could someone report how long the battery life is (not just the estimation, but how long it actually lasts) when you do Kenstrong's mod (forcing integrated) and doing light browsing and word processing? It would help me to make a decision. Thanks.

Doing light browsing + word processing at mid brightness, power-saver mode with the Intel GPU and on medium brightness, i achieved 4:45

This is on a Y410p with a Single 750m using Optimus.

Hey guys I'm planning to buy Y510p from XoticPC, it's a SLI version.

So my question was, Is there a optical drive in the laptop or it is replaced by the GT 750m ?

And How many hard drive slot are there ? Because later i want to have a ssd or msata in primary slot and hard drive in second slot.

    Thanks :)

The 2nd GPU in this system connects as a swappable accessory that you insert into the laptop's ultrabay slot. An optical drive would also fit into this ultrabay. So you can choose to put either the 2nd GPU or an optical drive into the ultrabay. You cannot use both accessories simultaneously.

I would recommend you continue to order the SLI version of the laptop, for two reasons. One, it is far easier to buy an optical drive for this laptop as an aftermarket accessory, than it is to buy another 750M GPU, due to parts supply and order fulfillment issues with Lenovo. Two, you can always buy an external USB optical drive (which WOULD allow you to run a 2nd GPU plus optical drive at the same time).

The Lenovo Y510 has one standard 2.5" SATA drive bay and one NGFF / M.2 slot for SSDs. At this time, there aren't any NGFF SSDs available for purchase as an aftermarket part. The Lenovo Y500 uses a 2.5" SATA drive bay and an msata slot. And you can find plenty of mSATA SSDs up to 256GB capacity as an aftermarket purchase.

Is there any way to buy this from Xoticpc and get the 24GB caching SSD? I haven't seen it as an option, but the whole NGFF thing is a bit of a mess to begin with...

Also: does anybody else (other than Lenovo) actually have this in stock and ready to ship?

In case anybody's curious, XoticPC has two listings, one of which is "expected mid-August", and one of which doesn't list stock status. I had assumed that if it didn't say otherwise, it was in the shop and ready to go, but I could definitely be wrong about that...

Just got my Y510p from Microcenter here in Michigan. They had one left in stock. It's the SLI model with a matte screen. The date on the box is from mid June so I must have gotten one of the last matte screen models. Also, it has the 4700MQ and not the 4702.

It does have one stuck pixel in the lower right part of the screen but I don't want to return it since I would most likely get a glossy screen model replacement. Looking for the DVD drive now for the ultra bay but Lenovo rep says they won't be selling them until mid August. Anyone able to buy the regular DVD drive yet?

Only with an adapter. It has one 2.5" SATA slot and one "NGFF" / M.2 SSD slot. You can use 2 mSATA drives in the 2.5" bay with an aftermarket adapter. Some resellers (like XoticPC) will do this for you.

I read through the forum in a fragmented manner over a couple days. Did we get confirmation that the slot is only a 42mm? Praying for a 60mm or whatever the next size up is. How about physically in that location. Just because it only has one screw hole, doesn't mean you can't fit something else in there with some modding. Any closeup pics or measurements you can do to confirm or deny it's just 42mm? If it is just that size, can anyone find literature that comments on the max space they are going with in the 42mm size?

    1. Press the Novo button on the side
    2. Enter the BIOS, and disable secure boot, and set the boot mode to legacy
    3. Save and power off. Then press the Novo button again then boot in your windows 7 usb/dvd
    4. Do a clean install of windows 7 + Install drivers and youre all set

Does anyone recommend a certain cooling pad for this laptop? Or if they even work at all? I'm using the Cooler Master NotePal X2 right now and it literally shows no difference in temps no matter what RPM it's set at. I can have this thing sit on a hard, flat surface with nothing underneath it and it will still run at the same temps.

Thats because most of the air from the laptop is exhausted from the side vents, not from the bottom.

the one thing i know about lenovo y510p that is not really that great

A single GTX 765m is actually better than SLI GT750m on games that will go lower than 40fps which sli configurations will cause micro studering

but i will still go for this for cheap $$

You can't pick a laptop by just looking at performance numbers, and assume that laptop is automatically the best. There is a lot more to it than just that. For example, LCD display quality is a HUGE part of the overall value of a laptop. As is design aesthetics, weight, keyboard quality, etc.

The specific appeal of the Lenovo Y510p is: great gaming performance for a 15" notebook; great display quality; great keyboard; attractive aesthetics; unbeatable price.

You can find a better laptop than the Y510p.
You can find a cheaper laptop than the Y510p.
But you can't find a better, cheaper laptop than the Y510p.

Then why go for the Y510p at all? The 4900MQ is not a whole lot better than the 2860QM and the 765M is on par with the 580M because of the 128-bit memory bus. It's not a substantial upgrade from that MSI of yours to the Y510p.

I agree with you on this. There is always better laptops... in the future setting. It is like saying, "I don't like this model because newer and better specs are coming out next year..." If that is the mindset, it would be better off not buying anything at all, if one does not really need it to begin with. Actually, saving money is often the best deal one can ever get, ever. A lot of people do impulse purchase, the things they don't really need and not really practical to them, and basically is all just based off a sheet of paper with all the specs, the numbers, and what other people say; tis not a good idea at all! And you are right that there is no cheaper ones than the y510p with the same functionality, the speakers, the design, the built quality, and of course the SLI.

Ive heard Lenovo extended No-question-asked return policy to 60 days for this laptop, is it true? Planning to return it when i get back to usa. Got sli version and its impossible to play 2+ hour, its getting very hot so its hard to hold my left hand over WASD buttons.
