Is that with the SLI or the regular version? Just going to jump in here as an MSI GE60-2OE-003US owner and say I'd be happy if I got 2 hours 55 minutes battery. The life of this machine is awful, around 2.5 hours - and I've got Optimus!

Ok guys I can report that I did what Kenstang did exactly. After playing around with it I can report that from just browsing with about 90% brightness and no backlit keyboard, my battery indicator is showing that with 82% of battery I have 6 hr and 38 min.

What you people say about deepcool multicore x6. it has 4 fans. But in a big dilemma whether it chills my lap or not. Can someone please suggest me a good one. Definitely will be apritiated much.

I got the Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim 160mm fan. It was super cheap(I think I paid $15 shipped on Amazon). It's only 1 fan but you really don't need much to cool that laptop. Just the gap alone was more than enough to keep your lap cool. The laptop itself has plenty of ventilation to keep itself at good temps. The laptop sit on it perfectly with the edges of the pad resting just under the edges of the laptop. It's very light too. I hate complicated and expensive pads, which is why I went with that one.

For my 2:55 battery run, I did not have the SLI model, i have the model with blu ray. I didn't change any settings in the NVIDIA control panel.

I'm trying another battery run, I've set the global settings in the NVIDIA control panel to Integrated Graphics under 'Manage 3D Settings' and 'CPU' under 'Set PhysX configuration'. Also, I've set the idle brightness to 25%. And I'm disconnecting my external mouse. Will report back later.

Hi guys, I have a few questions on this laptop.

    1. What is the battery capacity (in WHr)?
    2. Is the 8GB RAM present as 2 x 4GB or single 8GB stick? I would like to upgrade the RAM in future and if it would be great if it's a single DIMM.
    3. The specs on Lenovo site says the screen is Glossy. I remember them being Anti-Glare. Has lenovo changed the type of screen on this model?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

So I bought an Samsung 840 pro 256gb and the cloned partitions of the 1TB hard drive with EaseUS Todo Backup; the ssd drive is not bootable. I know I am late to the party and can't read 103 pages of this thread so does anyone have a tips or a tutorial to correctly clone the drive. thanks in advance.

Okay so with brightness at 60%, idle brightness at 25%, NVIDIA card disabled through Device Manager, no SLI, just the Y510p version with the blu ray, no backlit keyboard, iGPU chosen through NVIDIA control panel, i got....

2:45 hrs of battery life before it shut down on me. (Again shut down at 6%).

Is there any other way to correctly disable the NVIDIA graphics card besides what I've done already?

I guess the HP envy with the 740m or 750m(whenever it's updated) will still get better battery life. I don't game much but I do need something light and all day battery if I'm at school from 9-7 for two days a week and wanna work on music for DJing

I have the 500gb version of the 840 series and I used acronis 2013 to clone the 1tb over to my new 500gb ssd. It made a perfect copy which was immediately bootable. No bios changes, not settings to tweak. It worked perfectly.

I have other computers so it was easy to take the 1tb drive out and clone it while connected to another system.

    Cheers,

Woah woah woah. been reading through a few of these last pages here and people are reporting into the 4 to 5 hour range with light usage, aka note taking and other college work? Compared to the MSI GE60 2OE, that's amazing. Been looking at the MSI, but I might jump on this quick. Some were mentioning that they were disabling the 750m and running on the integrated graphics, but I thought that Lenovo had disabled the integrated graphics, or is that only with the sli model? I was looking at buying from frys.com so I could get the blue ray bundle as well, thus shoving that in when I wasn't using the second graphics card and hopefully saving battery. This being said though, I would be very interested if there was a site like Xotic PC which allowed you to customize the y510p instead of just buying the models that Lenovo offers.

Hey Brian, yes, you can enable the integrated GPU on the Y510p. Whether or not they have changed this on later builds I do not know. My model was one of the first, however you cannot have the convenience of using Optimus switchable graphics to my knowledge. The only way I can do it is by manually changing the active GPU from the control panel. To do this (if you have dual graphics), it requires you to remove the 2nd SLI card (you can either leave the bay empty or put in the optical drive when you are not in need of dual graphics). The battery life is considerably better than when you are running on the dedicated GPU. You just have to jump through a couple hoops to get it working, because Lenovo more or less "hides" the iGPU, it actually doesn't even have the driver installed for it from the factory you have to manually do it.

    From Lenovo directly

In theory, yes. However, Lenovo is unreliable in producing enough parts, or making sure that they send you the correct part. In general, you want to buy the final laptop configuration you want up-front, rather than trying to buy the parts later on as upgrades.

If I bought a ultrabay blu-ray drive (provided there is such a thing) how do you remove the SLI 750m? I'm sure I'm missing something but I don't want to force it either.

Remove the battery. Unlock the Ultrabay latch underneath the battery. Slide the Ultrabay out while holding down the spring-loaded latch in the middle. The instructions are on the bottom panel.

So what I'm thinking about doing is buying the SLI model, then taking out the ultra bay 750m and using integrated graphics for everyday use and just put the second 750m in when I'm not at home and I want to game. (I already have a gaming desktop) Is it possible to just use one 750m rather than using the integrated graphics? Will this work?

You need to first take out your ultrabay SLI card, then restart your computer. Then you need to install your HD4600 graphics driver (you can find this in the Lenovo D: (Cache Drive) that came with the computer under 'VGA'. After you install the driver restart the computer, then go to Nvidia control panel under manage 3D settings and the integrated GPU will be selectable. This does not mean that you can reinsert the ultrabay 750m. You must keep it out to use the integrated graphics, if both cards are inserted the system will not recognize the iGPU. You will need to either put in the optional dvd drive in the ultrabay, or just leave it open.

Shoot, I'd surely appreciate it. I have absolutely no idea what people in this thread are talking about with... SLIs, optical drives, drivers, multiple cards, and ultrabays. I just know I will probably get the y510p with one 750m in it and I'd love to know how that handles... well, anything.

BF3, Arma 3 are my main two, but im sure a lot of people would like to see, DayZ, LoL, WoW, Metro 2033 (First one), Crysis (First One)

    As for Settings

Resolution: 1600x900/1050 ( I chose this because it wouldn't look that bad on a 1080p screen)
High Settings, AA: OFF! (killer for mobile chips) Shadows: OFF! (even bigger killer) AF: 8x

Just a small list but anything you do will be greatly appreciated. I myself am picking up a y410p.

Check out this https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...=lwgGecrytZLp_-NNZGI5Zw&bvm=bv.48572450,d.dmg scroll to bottom of the page, and remember these are all a max settings and at 1080p, if you turn down the settings or the resolution you'll get better results, (Geforce Experience should do this automatically)

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while now, but here I am. I placed an order for a Y510p with SLI, but my estimated ship date is literally in a month from now. what has your experience with shipping time been? Was it much sooner than the estimated ship time?
Another thing, I saw on YouTube a guy ran Battlefield 3 on ultra with a Y500 750 sli at about 45 FPS at 1080p, which is better than notebookcheck has listed for the 675mx and even the 770m, so this has me excited, has anyone here tried Battlefield 3, or any game that supports SLI? I would love hear your results.

Ok I followed those instructions and I did get hd4600 drivers installed, ty for that. However, NVIDIA 750m was entirely disabled (I couldn't select it, it was showing up as unkown VGA adapter under devices). Did you have that happen? It's not a big deal cause once I put 2nd 750m back in NVidia is back online, just curious.
also my battery life got only a little better, but I wasnt fully charged so i'll try to retest later. Still would be great if we can find a way to use hd4600 without taking ultrabay card out

I've read this entire threa, and iirc most people reported that if your ship date is about a month, it will come sooner. Actually before I cancelled my y500 (for 510p on newegg), rep told me that a month long projection was just a precaution and that it will most likely ship sooner. Hope this is the case for you.
I've tried Hitman on ultra settings and i ran 15-40 fps in Chinatown level (big crowd, lots of movement). Though build in hitman benchmark ran 10-20. It still played fine ingame imo and ultra settings were an overkill for me

Thanks for replying, hopefully it will ship soon. Graphic power seems decent enough, especially considering the screen size ( my last laptop had a 17.3 inch screen), playing on a lower screen res probably still looks great.
