The GT70 will very likely perform better in gaming than the Y510P. The GTX 770M in the GT70 performs much better than the SLI and it also has Optimus along with it.
There's also a Father's Day Sale for MSI until the end of June which drops the price of the GT60(15.6" screen, GTX 770M) and GT70 by $100, which you can find here:

I'm curious. To everyone who owns this laptop, what do you get for startup times from hitting the power button to login?

The 4700 is more powerful. This is a gaming notebook you want the most powerful processor and gpu you can get. 4702 is more for ultra books. Don't forget your running sli also.

Better return it, or stay with it?

    Is this difference really noticeable?

Alright, so I'm just about to go to college and I'm looking for a budget gaming laptop, with a max price of $800 (because I'm poor :p). Right now, with the Father's Day discounts coupled with student pricing, the bottom line 410P and 510P are both $799. I have decided to get one or the other, so please don't recommend paying the extra $$ for the SLI model. The 410P has a 1600x900 14 inch screen and is about a half pound lighter, whereas the 510P only has a 1366x768 resolution on the 15.6 inch screen although it's got a number pad and an extra USB 3.0 port. I AM planning on buying an external monitor, so I'm not sure if the low resolution will bother me that much since I am planning on taking my tablet to classes. Right now I'm leaning towards the 510P, but I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing some huge factor here.
Also, would it be better to buy it now with Father's Day pricing? or wait until the 4th of July sales weekend.
    Thanks :)

So, used Fraps. Skyrim on 1920, ultra settings with high res package and anti-aliasing and scoping set at 8 would run a happy mid-50s (usually 59-60 when just walking around), dropping down to upper 40s when something big was happening. Temps are staying around mid-80s for gpu 0, mid-90s for gpu 1. The lack of loud fan blow is awesome for me. Good for morning gaming, just stick my coffee right by one of the vents :). I'm liking this computer more and more. Given, its the y500 and everyone is jumping up and down over the 4700 vs 4702. I don't see the battery life being much different. I was really considering the y510p for the bump in battery life. I can get a good four hours sitting on my lap with basic word processing and surfing without it burning my legs. Gaming laptops have come a long way in the past 3 years!

Ok so even though i cancelled my order they still shipped it today. SMH
My question is... Anyone with the sli configuration from lenovo, will you confirm that its 1 750m card and 1 720 card?
Multiple people have said that it isn't a typo and the sales people tried to talk me into keeping the thing.
Maybe I'm stupid but i thought sli meant two of the same card?? Will two different cards even work???
I already put another order through for NP8250 but they still shipped this so someone please help me understand.

I'm curious.... Is the 4702mq just coming with the SLI models of this laptop? Can anyone confirm that they have an SLI model with a 4700mq instead?

Also, I'm also going to end up with the 4702 as well in my sli. I've been waiting for ever to get a laptop, first waiting for the y500 after ordering in late may, then ordering the y510p when it came out. In just really excited to get a computer that can actually play a game above 10-15 fps XD
So should I get worried about this CPU difference and bug the reps for a laptop with the more powerful i7? If I do that can I still use the laptop I'm getting until the newer replacement comes? If I decide to stick with the one I get, I'll probably still ask for a little cash back ;D
    Thanks for the help guys!

After looking at the sale closer, it only applies to the older GT70's, which has the GTX 670M. In that case, the 750M SLI will perform better than these older GT70's.
However, the newest GT60 with the GTX 770M is on sale, which would be capable of playing almost any game at the highest settings.
The only difference is that it has a smaller screen than the GT70.

They don't make a 720m SLI. It's a typo. Been confirmed multiple times. The cards are both 750m.

If they shipped it it means they didn't cancel it on time. Just contact them to rma now. There isn't a restocking fee

So far I've been seeing confirmation after confirmation of this being a typo, and the second card being a 750m, not the mistyped 720M. I don't have mine yet, but I've heard from people who do.
Also, as far as I know, SLI is with 2 cards of the same type.

Hello guys. I'm thinking about buying this laptop (the SLI model) but first I would like to ask some questions.
I read about some of your temps while playing but none about the idle temps. Can someone post their temperature (idle and heavy load) ?
Second, hows the wireless card? On some of the user reviews I read about complaining about the wireless card.

Lastly, how do you compare the laptop against the MSI GE60 ( MSI GE60 2OE-003US - XOTIC PC - MSI Gaming Laptop ) which is my other option.

    Thanks.

EDIT: I got another question. Is the HDD removable? Because I'll replace it with an SSD.

Thank you. So why the hell did like 5-6 sales people tell me its not? How do you not know what you are selling to "US" the consumer? I called to buy it orginally and they said they didnt sell sli yet then i found it on amazon and he said sounded amazed by this and gave me a deal on it. Since they shipped it I will open it and play with it and see if I like it and then RMA it if not. No restocking fee! :)

Because these are telephone salespeople who you are talking to. They sell all the Lenovo products (of which there are quite a few and they haven't read up on everything.) They probably don't make a great deal of money as telephone salespeople and generate most of their income off of commissions. (Turn over in those jobs is very big.) Plus, there may be translation problems if you're talking to salespeople who are in a different country.

If you want better info, ask to talk to the tech department. They have a better grip on what's in the computers.

I says it will be here friday but ill be doing somthing for military so i probably wont get to touch it until saturday when i get back.

Hi I also got a 5% cash-back discount on my Y510P order ($65) for the wrong CPU.. well for the real difference of power I think that's a good deal.

However, I have a request for someone who own a Y500. As I would like to swap the keyboard from a Y500 to my new Y510P, does someone can tell me the keyboard part number from the lenovo please ? Lenovo Support - Parts Lookup (US)

    Thanks

Looks like all the newegg SLI versions had the 4700 which was promptly discontinued once they ran out of stock. I have the 4700 and I only game on Windows so leaving it plugged in is fine. I don't need the lower watt and longer battery life. So far it's been a great laptop. I do like the extra 24GB SSD you get if you swap out the 1TB HDD with a SSD, hybrid or 7200rpm drive. I cloned the 1TB drive to a 500GB SSD. Much faster and my full config is put away safe and never used.

Yes, cloned slow 1TB drive to fast Samsung 840 SSD and then erased the 24GB SSD it came with to use as Drive E: (of course I have no idea what I'm doing with such a small drive but since I paid for it I'll find a use).

    Cheers,

Yeah I'm thinking the same but Lenovo can't tell me if it's exactly the same part number... without a Y500 serial number (I have a Y510P ordered but I'm planning to change the keyboard to use a different european layout from an Y500 which is available here.

I just ordered a Y510p yesterday (at an amazing deal due to fathers day & student discounts). I plan to upgrade it to 16GB of ram however I am unsure about one thing. It comes with DDR3L ram but it is much cheaper to buy DDR3 ram, plus the kit I was looking at is 1.35v anyways. So I assume it would be compatible but I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge about this, or better yet the ability to test DDR3 ram on the Y510p.

Put xp on it as a dual boot option for any incompatibility issues you get in the future. Keeps your bootloader clean and separate

So whats the consensus here people. Haha I really cant read through 70 or so pages to see what has all come up, but is the y510p better than the y500? I guess when I say "better" I mean longer battery life, potentially track pad issues fixed, and the screen gloss diminished. I read about some 4700 vs 4702 problems with New Egg. Also trying to determine if i need 16gb of ram or if 8gb will do. Looking at this laptop for college, but also for multimedia entertainment and moderate gaming. Graphics cards in sli causing microstuttering? Or is it not even worth it to get the second 750m and just stick with the single? Also, how limiting is the 5400rpm HDD. I cant believe they are still so stupid to put these things in, and I probably have the technical knowledge to add an SSD. I have read that they have a port already built in for this expansion, but I dont know if I have the funds to do so at this time. Really just looking for an overall review and some opinions since it appears that many of you on this forum have bought the new y510p. Thanks for the input.

Nice choice. I only game on this so I doubt I'll need XP for anything and there are no drivers for XP at all.

Ok guys. I've been reading back up to speed since my last post. Did anyone ever decide if it is better to have the 4702MQ or the 4700MQ? A couple days ago after I complained to them I decided to have another sent out to me, that should have the processor in it that I ordered. However, is the wattage difference between the 2 really significant enough to lose the extra power of the better processor? Seems to me that the 200mhz would be worth more to me rather than the 10 less watts, being that you'll be using this thing plugged in most of the time anyways. Add to that, on battery mine model has been getting 3 hours or less on battery (4702MQ). Another thing you may want to check is the RAM. Am I mistaken that the website says the dual graphics should be 16GB, 1600mhz speed right? Well, I happen to look at my 3DMark again and it said it was 16GB but 800mhz....Am I reading this wrong or does that mean they are screwing us on the memory too? I'm not sure what to do at this point. Stick with this machine or go with something else....

4700 vs. 4702 all depends on what you're looking for.
Personally, I need this thing to last more than a couple hours if I'm out of my house for a while. On the other hand, people who sit this thing plugged in on a cooling mat on their desk will definitely want the 4700, since it delivers the extra 200MHz (which is actually fairly significant)

Sorry, I hate to be that annoying forum guy but can someone please answer my question?
Buy now with Father's Day discounts or wait till 4th of July/Back-to-School discounts?
The Father's Day deals end on the 19th, so prompt answers would be much appreciated.

Personally, I would get the y410p. It's got a better ppi than the 768p y510p, which I think you'll like longer and it will help the resale. The only things keeping me from the y400 before was the lack of SLI model and the screen resolution. Now that it's 900p, it's great. It's also easier to fit in a backpack. My y500 BARELY clears the top of my bag

Should I get the y510p SLI, GT70-2OC, or Sager NP8290 to play Crysis 3, BF3, and Far Cry 3 on high settings? Or any other recommended laptop under 1400$ to play these. Thanks
