i'm not sure how good cpuboss is but they have a comparison - Intel Core i7 4702MQ vs 4700MQ

doesn't look too bad. 4700 does perform better but only slightly. 4702has better power consumption. i'm guessing lenovo decided to change their specs. i bet they have a clause somewhere on their website that they won't be liable for any spec changes. or the reps can simply say that it was a type-o. now. unless we have proof that their are y510p users with 4700 and with pics, maybe we can get them to do us favors.

It doesn't matter, their advertising it with a haswell 4700mq possessor, not a 4702mq. Yes probably they have a disclaimer saying they can change what ever they want when ever, but the problem still remain they are false advertising a product . I don't care how big of a company you are. Just look at the Aliens: Colonial Marines game and the class action lawsuit filed against them, they advertised the game one way and it wasn't. Lenovo needs a class action lawsuit up their a** to straighten them out.

This is why they didn't advertise beforehand :p

Honestly, I think I'd prefer a 4702MQ. It's a tiny performance drop in exchange for extended battery life and the y510p's battery life is supposed to be somewhere around 3.5 hours (with or without SLI?).

    Hi Chanz0,

Great feedback. Can I ask you if you're sure that the keyboard are really different ?

I'll get my Y510P from USA next week and I was planning to swap the keyboard with one from a Y500 which has my european layout... Y510P is not available yet here and maybe never as we don't have so many models and prices are overpriced with old-hardware. I talked to Lenovo's "technicians" online and they told me without being 100% sure that the keyboard should be the same as the main change is only the Intel architecture which has been refreshed. My goal was to open both laptop as it's really easy, exchange the 1TB 5400rpm drive with a good 128GB SSD drive and then swap the keyboard => (should be same size and same plugs between Y500 and Y510P  )

Do you think that's OK ?

    Thanks

Received y510p with sli yesterday, also get 4702QM.
Ive called Lenovo support, and they offered me 5% discount. Maybe its even better to have 4702QM due to heat problems.

    PS: 5% = 64$

So I called Lenovo, and they offered a $50 deduction, or $50 worth of accessories, or I could return the laptop for a full refund. He also eluded that I could get a further discount if I returned it and decided to go with something else. I have half considered returning it as this is my.....fourth Y series laptop. The last 3 have all had problems which is how I ended up being able to go with the Y510p. I have unfortunately been completely spoiled by the 1080p screen lol. I had even considered going with another Thinkpad (still have my older T410), but again, the displays of these newer ones have just completely messed me up to the point I don't even know if I could live with a 14" 900p screen anymore. Don't get me wrong though, the Y500/Y510p are behemoths...but could be even more so if they kept it from being so locked down. They just seem to not be as stable as they could be.

What model did you purchase in which you received the 4702QM? The SLI?

I just noticed that the y510p on Frys website says it has ddr3 ram while the official lenovo site says it has ddr3l ram. Can anyone with the Frys model confirm whether the frys y510p comes with ddr3 or ddr3l?

    Guys...

I am a grad student... I ll be doing.... open gl ,web programming, mobile app development, photoshop, aftereffects, premeire, sometimes Autodesk apps.. (I know ..it ll need quadro for such processing..but i dunt have tht kinda budget)

I wil be in college.. so a good battery... (optimus ll be handy i guess)

I will be gaming as well.. I want a balanced laptop..

After reading through all this thread...
I am disappointed with Y510p..... I need a laptop for 1000 USD and after again researching all over ...

I established that SAGER NP7352 is a great buy..from xoticpc... with its optimus, GTX 765 and an 8 cell Battery....

Can some one ... compare and suggest lenovo n Sager ?

    or any other laptop?

I was eyeballing that sager model as well. I was going to wait until someone reviewed the screen quality, since I'm a little skeptical of the price. 2 hdd + msata is nice. The only thing I hated was the non-backlit kb. Then again, their back lit keyboard models appear to come with an atrocious backlit trackpad as well(and cost $200+ more).

I canceled my y510p order after a little research. I still might get it but decided to wait a couple months for more reviews on all the competition to surface. I might even pick up something 2 months used from someone for a discount. Right now, everything is too new and unknown

    Yx0 SY L12S6E01 10.8V 62Wh 6cellbty
    LINETEK LP-30B + SPT-2 + LS15 1m cord

First of all I am happy with the 4700mq. I want to note also that the screen model is different from one found in Y500 (LP156WF1-TLC1). Matte coating isn't the only difference between these screens apparently. Notebookcheck.com review ( Review Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews) and other sources indicate about 250 cd/m2 brightness (220 cd/m2 in official descriptions) and 500:1 contrast. On the contrary various sources indicate higher brightness and contrast for LP156WF1-TLB2 ( 430cd/m2, 850:1 - actual test, 270 cd/m2, 700:1 - item description).
Another noteworthy thing is the battery which if I understand correctly has 62Wh capacity as opposed to 72Wh of Y500. Is this how Lenovo made Y510p slimmer and lighter relying on Haswell and iGPU utilization improvements to compensate?

Update i spoke with Lenovo and all the Y510 laptops going to have 4702Qm on them from now on so there is no why to change it
they offer to me to cancel the order because to renew it will not help because i will get 4702qm again.
What i did because i don't see much different for my use (Photoshop,AutoCad) i had 75$ cash back from them

1500-75-90=1335$ that is the price i paid for the Y510p with SLI+3 Year warranty+dmg

I got the exact same thing yesterday. Wrong processor. I called, they didn't care one bit, scheduled for return on Monday. Lenovo has screwed me twice in a month and their service is atrocious. The 510 feels cheap and fingerprints like I've never seen before (Have a DV7-7000 as well). I'm definitely done with the company

When I called to ask about the different processor, the sales rep said they're transferring the case to the rep that I bought the machine from, so I guess I'll see what he can do for me (he's on break). Also, for those who are interested in a fresh install, the 510p drivers are finally up!
EDIT: I plan to make a stink about the different processor, not because it's really that big of a deal, but rather because I'm getting sick of lenovo's seemingly idiotic support. There are STILL hardware errors on their main page (saying the SLI config has a 720), this current processor issue, and that when I called up no rep could answer the most basic of questions that I had about the machine.

I really wish lenovo would get there act together. There mistakes on there website are unbelievable and inexcusable. The fact they still haven't fixed the 720m graphics card says a lot. I think it's safe to say anyone ordering from lenovo is taking a calculated risk. Let hope and pray once they get there U.S. factory up and running these mistakes stop. It's clear there factory in china simple doesn't care or orders are getting messed up in translation. Till there mistakes are corrected I advice anyone looking to buy this model to either buy from a big box store where they can read the box themselves or go with another manufacture.

So far it's taken everything I can through at it on the highest or just under the highest settings, however, I only play stuff like Company of Heroes and COH2, SC2, Diablo 3, Torchlight II, AOE2, 3 & online, etc. Fans kick in on COH2 but its still BETA. Otherwise it's been pretty quiet.

No gaming on battery, just lagged like crazy because it disabled SLI and dowclocked everything. Not that I care since I don't really use it without being plugged in. So there's no chance you'll get 5 hours gaming on battery unless it's Windows Solitaire.

    Cheers,

Put it this way people, order a y510p knowing that your going to get a 4702mq possessor instead of a 4700mq, and just call them and demand a further discount. I'm mean its already been said that the performance difference isn't noticeable, plus it consumes less power and less heat.

I didn't read all 65 pages but now that I actually have the machine and cracked it open to replace the HD I can say with certainty mine came with Samsung 5400 rpm HDD and a separate 24GB SSD drive. Since I installed a 500GB Samsung 840 SSD I checked the Disk Management Tool (accessible by pressing Windows Key+X) and found a separate Lite-On 24GB drive that is completely used and has no drive letter assigned. I'm trying to determine what will happen if I just wipe the thing.

Also, can't figure out how to enable Windows Defender under Windows 8 since I despise McAfee products.

Other than these nits seems to be a great little machine that plays all my games well.

    Cheers,

Gotta disable or uninstall McAfee to be able to use Windows Defender. Or better yet, do a clean install. This laptop has, by far, the most bloatware I have ever seen in any OEM machine. Just doing a clean install cut boot time by more than half, even on the slow-a** 5400 RPM HDD.

So even though I already have a SSD and don't need it as a cache drive you don't think I could blow away the partition and use it?

No OS files or recovery stuff on so I'm thinking I could use it. I may just have to try it.

BTW, this thing is blazing fast w/o the slow 1TB drive!

    Cheers,

Yeah, no clean install for me. Let me see if I can get the McAfee stuff off of here. Got rid of the games and most of the other useless stuff.

Great, says McAfee is gone in Control Panel but still can't activate Windows Defender. hmmmm

2 reboots fixed it. Now says not protected and offers to turn on Windows Defender. All Good!

    Cheers,

What are some other gaming laptops around this 1200-1300$ range that perform just as well or better than the y510p?

Just spoke to lenovo regarding my 4702 vs 4700, they're willing to give me 40 dollars back, making my SLI model go down to 1096. I could also send it back and get a 4700, but if the performance is nominal and the temp difference is significant, I figure it may make sense to stick with the 4702. Any opinions? Has anyone compared 02 battery life to the 00, as well as temperatures? A difference of 10W seems quite significant, although I really don't have to knowledge to confirm that.
EDIT: changed my mind, I'm having them send out a 4700
EDIT edit: they don't know when the issue will be resolved, so I'll have to call back next week to guarantee that I can have the 4700 shipped out instead of another 4702 (which would be pretty annoying)

I would take the money. Those reps have absolutely zero clue what's going on with those laptops. Trust me, I've dealt with many of them...You may end up getting another 4702.

Easy solution guys. Would someone with a y510p and haswell 4702mq possessor post a 3dmark 11 stock score. Regardless if you like benchmark test or not it gives people an idea of the difference between the 4700mq vs 4702mq possessors. A 4700mq averages a score of 5100+ so if its the same, close to or above, i rather take the 4702mq and ask for a discount to bring down the cost, unless your anal and absolutely must have a 4700mq possessor then have at it, but the way things are going you might go through a couple of units before you get one if you do.

Please someone who has this model run a 3dmark11 on it. I get mine on Monday and found out its a 4702 and don't know if I should keep it so whoever had this model please run the benchmark so it gives me and everyone else that will receive their laptop an idea of the difference

I don't know a thing about computers, but I kept getting recommended the Lenovo Y580 which I guess was replaced with the Y500 which I now guess was replaced with the Y510p? I would like to play heavy hitting games and this is at my budget... but I see a lot of complaints here on this thread. There aren't any reviews out yet nor benchmarks, so I ask...

Considering all the problems some of you seem to have, is this still a computer that can easily run top-end games well, won't shut down due to overheating (although I am aware it has a short battery life when not plugged in), fixed whatever touchpad issue I keep reading about with the Y500, and can basically handle nay one or two programs at a time with 8GB of RAM?

I don't know a thing about computers, and I don't photoshop heavily or anything. I'm just looking for a computer I can game with and study on in this $900-$1000ish price. Though it's a shame it isn't in the $800s like the Y500... that'd be nice.

Should I get the y510p SLI or something like the GT70-2OC? Im not sure which one will perform better in gaming.... Is the y510p SLI capable of playing BF3 and Crysis 3 on high settings? Can someone who has the y510p SLI please help me out? Thanks

I have one but I don't play either of those games. I have Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Company of Heroes(COH) and the Beta for COH2, AOE2, 3 and Online, Torchlight 1&2, Titan Quest (TQ) and TQIT. None of these are as demanding as the one's you mention but I can play all them on the high or highest.

I've spoken to a person who has the new Tomb Raider and Medium was supposed to be breathtaking.

For $1150 @ newegg it was waayyy cheaper and lighter than getting another Alienware. I just put my M17xR3 on eBay so I guess I like this new system. The only things I miss are eSATA and HDMI in ports (you can use the AW as a monitor).

    Cheers,

And from what I have read , the new tomb raider isn't sli compatible yet, that's why it can only run on medium.
