The SPP site and code still seem to work, only the discount is about 5% instead of 15%

Just canceled my T60P order. My est shipment is 5/11, so I don't know is it going to make it.

I just called Lenovo to check the status of my T60 order. I asked if it was still on schedule as I was going to cancel and place an order for a T61 but they told me the packing slip has already been created and it's on schedule for a 5/15 ship date. Me very happy now. :D

I was considering a T61 but as others have said no 15.4" configs yet. The price for the T61's are cheaper than a T60 config, but since I saved $633 on my system i'm not complaining, it's a wash.

The Cnet review of the R61 and T61 only shows marginal performance improvements over the R60 and T60 systems which is what I expected all along.

I was told the same thing last month when I called them around 24th to change my credit card information. Still no shipping. T61 appears to be a good deal. I just saw a video review for R61 on cnet, looked pretty good to me, so I am guessing T61 will look even better. I also got a pretty good deal on T60p which remains one of the factors for not cancelling my order till now. I will wait to see what kind of screen and keyboard they are putting into that, and then decide if to send it back.

Well, the T61 definitely looks interesting, although the lack of WSXGA is what kills it for me (not sure if this is for the 15.4" one though). Personally, I can't stand the headphones ports being on the front, I really don't get why manufactures seem to be going in this direction. I just don't see the point in having a headphone plug or two hanging off the front when I want to use speakers or headphones. That is, unless they intend for people to use their laptops as oversized MP3 players inside the case. ;)

RodKnee, I just had an idea for when we both get our T60's (one of these days  ). How about possibly doing a collab/dual T60 review? That way there would be two opinions and two T60's with slight differences. Might be interesting.

Well if my T60 doesn't ship by 5/15 i'll probably cancel my order and go with a T61.

I just hope that we won't have to wait for the T61 shipment so long that by then the next Santa Rosa revise chipset will be out.

I had originally ordered on 4/15 with a projected ship of 5/10... it shipped on 4/30 and I recieved it on 5/2 but it was defective (it started out by going to sleep every 2 minutes when it was taken off A/C power and then progressed to not allowing the screen to turn on ever whether it was on A/C or not) so I had to send it back :(

It was really nice while I had it (I got the NMB keyboard and the LG screen) but now they had to put a new order in... supposedly it's on the "critical" list but I don't really know how much that is going to change things. It's current projected ship date is 5/30. Hopefully I get the good screen and keyboard again.

Also, for all of you thinking of placing an order for the new T61's. Be prepared to wait.. even though they were announced today I wouldn't expect them to even start building these machines for 2-3 weeks. Also, from what I've seen the speed bump is only marginal and the graphics are a step down from what's in the T60's.

It's been three days and Lenovo still hasn't removed hold on my account.
How hard is it for them to call the freakin' bank and confirm the address?
The Lenovo rep' actually told me that they were having a problem confirming the address because my BANK has an automated phone system which caused them trouble.
It's not like Bank of America is a small local bank or anything like that. ITS PISSING ME OFF!!

Just received my T60P today. My order was placed on 4/24, and the est. shipping date is 5/8. So it arrived on time :) The bad things are I got a Samsung 14SXGA+ screen and Chicony keyboard. The DVD-Ram is HGST. The package hasn't been opened yet. Any suggestion about keeping it or return it back for a T61?

I do agree that the current available Santa Rosa systems will perform very similar to the old chipset systems. However please note that the current Santa Rosa systems are only equipped with non-800Mhz Ram, same CPU clock speed and non DX10 ready Graphic card.

Until the 800Mhz and next generation DX10 card being used (possibly in early June 07). It won't matter if we use T60 or T61.

I just spoke with customer service and they mentioned that they were out of the 15.4" WSXGA+ screens again and that's what is currently holding up orders.

They claimed that the reason they were moving away from IPS displays was because they were difficult to get ahold of which may be true but they don't seem to be much better at getting ahold of these widescreen displays.

Also, as far as I can tell they do not fill orders in a first come first serve manner. The first time I ordered my T60p I recieved it a few days after the order where as others who had ordered before me still had not received theirs. For this first order I wasn't on any kind of special list--I thought I was really lucky but I ended up having to return the machine because it was defective :( Now they have put a new order in for me and added it to the critical list. Well I was talking with customer service (not sales reps) and they said there is an additional "critical" list for business executives that they could place me on that should go even faster... I guess we'll find out.

Just thought everyone would be interested to know.

P.S. They also claim the typical order fulfilment time should be 10 to 12 days.

They're out again? I see so it makes perfect sense now, instead of using a FIFO manufacturing system they pick your name from a lottery wheel.

If Lenovo misses the my target date i'm going to cancel my order and buy a Dell D830 instead.

There's no sense in ordering a T61 since i'll probably see it in 2009. :p

Call Lenovo customer service, and then when it gives you menu options, choose the one that lets you enter in an extension number. His extension is 32992.

    You scared me man.
I ordered mine on 4/24 with est date 5/18

Just looked to be sure that it did not changed and it did not.

It looks like they don't have any system in changing dates.

    Is yours was t60p with 15.4 WSXGA+ ?

Just trying to find something which will make sense in all this.

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the Lenovo shipping dates. I ordered on 4/11 and had a ship date of 4/30 for my T60p. About a week ago, they updated my ship date to 5/25 (!!), but I just got an email today - 5/11 - that my laptop had shipped. Apparently their order pipeline is not so accurate when it comes to dates.

Yep not only takes a LONG time to get the shipment. It also take me more than 3+ days to CANCEL my T60P order. In fact my est shipment was 5/11 and got pushed to 6/6. So good luck on the wide screen 15" orders.

I think I might just order the T61 for now, and if they delay again (i was told by Lenovo T61 will takes 2 weeks, but who knows, Lenovo's costumer creditably is down to -10). I may well just order a Sony or HP Geforce 8M laptops.

Since I can get a Sony FZ with 8M card at the same current T61 $. I don't feel bad my T60P got delayed and pushed back. Lenovo will keep loosing it's thinkpad market share from other brands, that's all.

In fact if you read more about Lenovo, they are trying to market itself as budget brand. Thinkpad is not just their goal, more likely a stepping stone to the U.S market.

By the way guys, let's be honest. How many of you will buy the thinkpad if the IBM logo is being replaced by Lenovo logo? Or if the IBM & Thinkpad logo being removed all together? Then we might ask ourselves....Em...is that Lenovo 3000C or T60?

It isn't hard to imagine why Lenovo is treating Thinkpad like this. After all Thinkpad is like Coke Cola - True American Laptop Icon.

The Logo helps when it comes to new customers but for me it doesn't matter all that much. I don't care who makes it if it is a quality machine. I may be unique but I do not want a budget laptop, I'm willing to pay the extra $$$ for a quality machine and customer experiance. I hope that Lenovo recognizes that there is a market there that not too many other manufactures are competing in.

As far as I am concerned the only laptops that seem even worth considering are the Apple MacBook Pro and Thinkpad. I would hate to see Lenovo abandon the thinkpad for budget pc's although I fear that is the road they are going down.

Hey guys, just got off the phone with Johnathan. First of all, him = "The. Best. Rep. EVER." :D

Now that that's out of the way, he took a look at my order and I will probably be receiving it quite a bit sooner than the 21st (original ship estimate). Apparently because of the holiday last week, the warehouse is really trying to get these orders out as fast as possible, as there was a huge backlog as a result of the holiday. He also said the warehouse will be working on filling those orders over this coming weekend to catch up. Good news for anyone still waiting for their T60; although I'm sure the rush of people cancelling their T60 orders and reordering T61's helped with the backlog. :)

Anyway, I wish more companies had more people like Johnathan, I can't say enough about this guy, just outstanding in every way and willing to go the extra mile for us.
We should petition for him to get a raise or a promotion or something. :p

I'm glad I stuck with my original T60 order thus far, and it'll be even better when it finally gets here; so, just a note of encouragement to anyone that's still waiting on an order like me and is pretty frustrated at the moment. ^_^

Also, from what I've heard from Lenovo reps, the T61's *could* be going into production as soon as this weekend.

I'm glad I stuck with my T60 order as well. I think the T61's offer a mixed bag of performance and it's what I expected from the beginning. I hope I like my T60 after waiting this long. I was really considering a Dell D820 and I hope i'm not disappointed with my Thinkpad. ;)

Yeah, I've been meaning to call up lenovo, ask to speak to a supervisor right off the bat, and tell him how great Johnathan has been. I'm going to do it next week. I've been catching up on work these past two weeks since I was without a computer for a few weeks while waiting for my T60. But man was it worth it! My mouse also got here today, I haven't really tested it out yet since I haven't had to do any CAD or photoshop work yet..
But yeah, next week I'm calling to put in a good word for Johnathan. He most certainly is the best CSR from any company ever! :D

Quality is superb. I could not have a better laptop. My only complaint is the low max. volume of the speakers. I have noticed some of the other things that others have noticed though, like the right palm rest flexing a bit, and the 9-cell wobbling a bit. But neither of which are anything to be concerned about. Yes the palm rest has flex, but you don't notice unless you deliberately flex it.. On the battery, I just put some paper under it to keep it from doing so...

    I'd rate it probably a 9.5/10, or a 10/10. Nothing I've seen matches it's quality. :D

Good stuff. Flexing doesn't bother me because it's not Lenovo's fault. It was there when IBM changed the case design (2nd Generation) of the Thinkpad. I remember when I owned the Thinkpad 380ED and boy was that laptop strong. You could put as much weight on the palm rest and nothing fazed it except your sore palms.

When IBM introduced the new look Thinkpads I believe in the late 90's which is still used by current Thinkpads I noticed the palm rest had a flex to it. So i'm not bothered by it the least.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your new lappie. :)

Well I ordered a T61 the night they came out since the EPP on top of the sales discount and already "favorable" MSRP, just made it too good to pass up.

I was able to upgrade to 2.0ghz, get the video card, and upgrade everything to a reasonable level like HD & battery (6 Cell is a must I guess with the new powerhogging video card).

$1,025~ for a decked out T61. However for some reason although I ordered hours after it released, ship date says 5/28 :(

At least I might be able to see the T61P's before it ships.

I just received my serial #. How do I look up all the parts on the Lenovo website?

I tried the FAQ link cvec7 provided but it had no information I could find that relates to looking up the parts in your laptop.

p.s. Ok I found the correct FAQ, lol. I entered the 6 digit part number from the invoice 8743CT then the serial #. I follow the link enter the information and I get this message:

    Our apologies

Information for parts lookup was not found. Please click the browser back button and try again.

I'm getting the same error...Maybe we have to wait a bit before we can see our part numbers.

I think it takes a while for the records to be updated. Try it after a day or two (might have to wait till Monday, since this is the weekend).

Yeah, most report it taking a bit for their records to get updated. However, mine was available as soon as it shipped...maybe being on a priority list had something to do with it....
