The supplier is http://www.camtechsystems.co.uk/, if you email them asking to pre-order and information they will get back to you confirming what I just said.

    https://www.facebook.com/GIGABYTE.Notebook.Global/posts/10151804861591880

delay possibly due to Windows 8.1 release?

If anything they'd delay the release because they couldn't get enough chips. Seems pointless to wait for 8.1 to release since they can just push out that update after release anyway.

Would not surprise me. Windows 8 is a pile of steaming dung; 8.1 alleviates some of the issues and would probably result is less overall support requests for them.

Any views of if I can swap the HDD for a SSD drive and configure in RAID0? HDD size isn't important to me as long as its around 256GB as I have a home server system but would love to get the better speed.

Anyone seen any reviews which consider the battery life?

You can fit 2 msata drives in raid 0 as well as one (2 with odd) conventional disks.

Artur Hofmann Can i change the simple things like the RAM and the HDD without warranty lost?
    Like · August 26 at 2:12pm

GIGABYTE NB Ram - Yes. HDD - you need to send it to the service center.

This quote from their FB page has me worried about changing the HDD's. I had the same idea of adding my own msata drives to Raid.

    Hey guys,
Pricing looks to be $1400-$1600 for the p35k and p34g in the US (according to GB's facebook page). And they said that you can change the HDD and msata's but there is a "risk" of voided warranty.
Probably just need to put back the old hardware if anything.

Hi Gigabyte NB. Understand that the P35K's RRP is USD1299 but how about for the P34G? Thanks.

GIGABYTE NB Hey Alwin - depends on the config. but looks like it could be between $1399 - $1599 for the P34G/ P35K.

If P35K starts at 1399 then it is a lot cheaper then what is shown on the preorder websites.

These specs seem to scream out Dell M3800 competitor. It already has the required IPS display; wonder what logistics would be required to implement a Quadro K2100m/K1100m solution?

CPU/GPU location seem good for not getting the keyboard incredibly hot when playing games. I wonder where the benchmarks are considering that this laptop is going to be released soon.

The M3800 is a small workstation, not a gaming laptop. The GPUs aren't really comparable, they are optimised for different things. Nvidia design the gaming 6xxm and 7xxm cards for gaming only, they aren't much good for CAD or image/video editing, and visa versa for the Quadros.

Yea but my guess is, due to the "full sized" keyboard, they had to, by default, increase the screen bezel in order to maintain uniformity of the entire chassis. IMO, it's a small price to pay for the keypad.

Loving that tag line on the P35K box

"Releasing unprecedented performance with stunning visual enjoyment in compelling audio festivity"

I know that when I'm shopping for a laptop, 'audio festivity' is high on my list of must have features.

The laptop is wider and also longer than normal to get it thinner. There are other laptops with full keyboards that are considerably smaller than the P35K.

I can confirm the above too - the parts are user upgradable - but will void your warranty.

If you are in the UK, it needs to be done by FASC in Telford - I'll ring them at 09:30 (when the sales guy is in) to get a quote. I've asked OCUK if this is something they can do prior to shipment & keep the warranty intact.

    /edit
FASC will charge £35 + £10 Shipping to install your own disks in the machine (quite reasonable I thought).

Great info man, although I think OCUK is going to be more expensive than camtech. The 16gb version is like 1500 GBP o_O
I don't know why all the configs show 2 msata drives? Last week it was just one: msata 128+ 1TB sata.

    edit: camtech is without VAT...
Just thought it would be nice to know what actually voids warranty: the fact of changing the disks or the fact the you send the pc with non-stock drives (that way we could change it ourselves).

There is a dreaded sticker over one of the screws which you need to undoo to release the main enclosure.

There are two versions of the P35k in the UK.

    Cheap:
    1 x 128GB SSD
    1 x 750gb HD
    1 x DVD
    8gb RAM

    Expensive:
2 x 128GB SSD (RAID) which can hopefully be un-raided
    1 x 1 TB disk
    1 x BR-DVD
    16GB RAM

Wether the £300 justifies the extra goodies remains to be seen - but it would save ball ache of getting it installed yourself.

    Yeah, that's what I'm seeing.
I'm not interested in the second msata nor the BR-DVD.
It would be interesting to know if the 8GB version is a 2x4GB or not, so that one can add a second module.

Damn this laptop makes me want to return my shiny new razer blade 14 inch the panel, ssd / hdd storage, even both ram and cpu is just better plus you have a built in blu ray writer I had to buy a separate dvd writer and an external 500gb hdd for extra storage and back ups since 256gb is just barely enough storage for a gaming laptop these days

I do love the razer blades 6 hour battery life though, but I hate the viewing angles on the screen, the P35K has a full HD IPS panel which is sweet for watching movies, if the P35K can muster a similar battery life to the blade I might just be tempted to sell my unit and just grab this baby!

I believe it's the biggest non-ULV haswell laptop battery (no native speaker, but you get the idea).
It also has a bigger screen, but I'd say it should have at least 4 hours.

On the facebook page they said that newegg was one of the distributors. Hopefully that means that we can get some nice discounts through v.me. From what I've seen the discounts don't tend to be that great on the other sites that typically carry gigabyte laptops.
