Its made from machine aluminum top and carbon fibre bottom and palm rest

    Crafted without compromise
The XPS 15 was thoughtfully designed with premium, authentic
materials. The sleek overall design is a result of its performancedriven
construction. Machined aluminum provides strength and
durability. The top cover is precision cut from a single block of
aluminum. The carbon fiber composite base helps drive its
lightness. It is strong like aluminum, and thin, but feels cooler to
the touch. Finally, the edge-to-edge hardened Corning® Gorilla®
Glass NBT™ has up to 10 times higher scratch resistance compared
to soda lime glass, resulting in greater resistance to unsightly
scratches caused by handling, cleaning or wiping.*

Just had notification from Overclockers.co.uk that the P35K laptops have arrived and are being shipped out tonight. All things being well, I'll have mine tomorrow afternoon. :)

Now just remember to come back to the forums once you get the laptop
Hope this means xoticpc is also getting their shipment this week.

Such is tge nature of pre-order pricing. I'd be annoyed if it'd gone down .

GentechPC rep just told me that they'd have the p35k up on their website today. I'll probably order from then to get the 2% student discount, thermal paste upgrade and 30-day dead pixel guarantee for free.

Base on what they have up so far for the P35K-CF2 model, the 30-day dead pixel guarantee is not free. Hope they sell the P35K-CF1 model.

Yeah, their pixel guarantee was free for their other gigabyte products. Also the product description isn't complete, since it still displays it as having the 770m. The title is correct though. GentechPC seems to have much better customer service than xoticpc so I'll probably buy from them unless newegg has it for less with coupon.

Why is every company besides XOTICPC yelling out the date which they receive stock...

I sent them an email Sunday asking about the delivery date, no response yet. I called them today and the guy was clueless and just said most pre-orders are stocked in about 2-3 weeks.

Excalibur just confirmed with me that they will be able to ship the P35K out next week.
Gentechpc just told me that they will be getting stock early next week,
OCUK already shipped the p35k to their customers...

I'm about one minute away from canceling that pre order on XOTIC PC, are there any XOTIC reps on this forum I can message before I do so?

Well I'm personally going with XOTIC PC because they have more options than the other websites and you should stick with them if you can't find your custom options anywhere else. I mean you're going to get sooner or later so why not wait for better options. But if you didn't customize it that much or you can replicate your order on other websites, you should do it. It's up to you really.

GenTech has the same upgrades available for a better price, but I know nothing about their company and whether they delay shipments if you upgrade.

I guess I'm frustrated because they haven't replied to my email that I sent over the weekend, and the fact that when I clicked live chat (I waited for 20 minutes) it told me there are no reps available. (This was during their store hours)

I also called XOTIC and asked the guy if he knew if the shipments have left Hong-Kong to their facility, he told me gigabyte is supposed to tell them when the shipments come in. He said he would expect them to come in 2-3 weeks from now.

Overall felt like a bull!@# excuse knowing excaliber and gentechpc have already stated when they are getting their shipments next week.

I'm just going to try contacting them tomorrow, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that that rep was misinformed if not I'll pre order elsewhere.

Ordered P34g on Sunday (GentechPC). They got it in stock on Monday and shipped it the same day. Should be delivered on Thursday. Pretty fast though I ordered the stock configuration. So far so good :)

You don't need to know anything about the company. They have a decent return policy (similar to XoticPC). And if you pay with a credit card then you are covered well if there any problems...

I asked about upgrading thermal paste, the rep said 1-2 days will be added for upgrading. I assume it'd be that it'd be similar if you're adding another hard drive or more ram since they have to open the case anyway. So far I think gentechpc has had the best support imo (rep named Ken responded within 30 minutes to my email). When I contacted xoticpc through their chat I had to wait like 15 minutes and the rep wasn't very knowledgeable about the product (he kept referring to it as a lenovo).

I'm going to wait to pre-order mine since I have a feeling that all the companies will receive the shipment from gigabyte within 1-2 days of each other. But if one of the companies receives stock first I will just buy through them and not go through the hassle of cancelling an order.

My experience is a bit different. A XoticPc representative answered my e-mails instantly (5 minutes delay at most). But I waited several hours for Ken to reply me... Though I can't complain here even Amazon (and they have the best support!) needs much more time to reply you :)

Uhhhhh !? Where did you order yours from and did you have any custom work done? That doesn't look like that could happen to something that just stayed in the box packaging. Hope everything runs smoothly with the return!

RMA in process - Being returned to seller (OCUK) for exchange.

No custom work done (they don't offer that in the UK) , literally removed from box, put it on desk & plugged in.

I just pre-ordered from gentechpc. Added 256 gig (128+128) for only $139 which seemed like a better deal than getting the CF2. Also upgraded the wireless card. Total was only $1541.54 which is a bit more than I wanted to spend but not unreasonable for performance/specs.

    Hi,

I am new to the forum and I have a question to the new P35K owners.

    First congrats!!!!

So I am deciding between the razor blade and the P35K.

I have done extensive research on both and they are pretty much tied... like the compact design of the razor, but hate the display - with the P35K its the other way around

One aspect that is very important to me is the battery life. Based on what I have read, I can expect to get 6+ hours of battery life from the razor using Office coppeled with some light internet browsing.

My question now is how does the battery life of the P35K compare to the razor blade?

-- unfortunately I could not find anything useful online

    Thanks,
    Chris

I'm afraid as of right now there is not that much info available online Chris.

However there is this chart from CNET (I don't know if its reliable)
Gigabyte P35K Review - Laptop & Notebook computers
PowerMark: 50 per cent brightness, normal mode (time)

    2h 09m
    Origin EON15-S
    1h 03m
    Toshiba Qosmio
    2h 39m
    Asus G750JX
    3h 07m
    Gigabyte P35K
    1h 55m
    MSI GS70

If you look up the MSI GS70 vs the RazerBlade, you can find out that the MSI GS70 out performs the razer on battery life. Thus P35K>GS70>RazerBlade

I had posted this before, so I'm just gonna copy&paset sorry.
Also, I think this is the 15'' razer? I don't know if it has more or less battery life than the other.

I don't know why so many doubts around this. I'll put it simple:

A Gaming Ultrabook Grudge Match -- Razer Blade Pro Versus MSI GS70 STEALTH - Forbes
In another test, the GS70 did 1:55 and the P35K did 3:07.
Gigabyte P35K Review - Laptop & Notebook computers
So, we're talking about a better battery life than the razer blade pro. Are we clear on that? There's no better, if you need better then you need to wait for new unknown/upcoming laptops or a different architecture (ULV cpus).

Thanks a lot for this response but this is comparing the razor blade pro.

But it seems that the P35K is really everything a gamer can ask for.

It would be cool if someone with a P35K could reproduce the test from A Gaming Ultrabook Grudge Match -- Razer Blade Pro Versus MSI GS70 STEALTH - Forbes

On http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2013/07/02/review-razer-blade-gaming-ultrabook-2013/ -- written by the same guy -- I did find this though:

I know that he had Bluetooth turned off (possibly also Wifi) but that still should not drop the battery life to the 3h as seen in the razor blade pro.

If the P35K really has a longer battery life, then I know what I am getting for christmas... :)

For the sake of argument lets assume that the above is true and the Razor Blade 14 does indeed boosts 5.5 hours worth of juice while "Looping an HD movie in fullscreen, with brightness at 50% and Bluetooth off"

On Battery Life, Power Consumption & Portability Index : Razer Blade 14-inch (2013) - A Step Closer to Gaming Notebook Perfection - HardwareZone.com.ph
the Razor Blade 14 scored: Powermark - 172 minutes

On Gigabyte P35K Review - Laptop & Notebook computers the P35K scored: Powermark - 115 minutes

So again assuming that these results are correct it is safe to assume that the P35K will have a considerable worse batterie life then then the Razor Blade 14.

It would be awesome if someone with a P35K could do some battery testing.

    Thanks

Yes I know! I said that in my post.

But looking at the Powermark score of the razor blade 14,I believe that even though the specs are very similar to the P35K the battery life of the P35K will be considerably worse.

    Best,
    Chris

Also, if somebody could tell me the pin-out interface -terminations- that are on the end of the motherboard/monitor cable,

    it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

(Sharp IGZO's is currently mass producing a 3200 x 1800 display currently..... In the 14.0 inch form factor.. ) There, I shared my secret (or at least one of them anyway), now you share please. ; D :hi2: What are the motherboard connections to this panel.

Also, in the 15.6 form factor, (IGZO is producing APPLs' 15.6 3840x2160 16:10 display. I am sure there will be / is a 16:9 variant / model of that available. Though I think for anything above 3200 x 1800 there's a new connector. I don't know yet. Waiting for October 15 when Anandtech -- Ifixit teardown .

There is also a 13.3 IGZO 2560x1440 16:9 display that is already available.

    While these displays arn't as color-near perfect as a one of the TOP - of the heap - NOTCH (bona fide....) ips panel they would be wonderful to put into this laptop. (;

Monitor termination, PLLLLEAaasse. [By the way] This display should go on the market is 2-3 months...

I hope jarred Walton scolds Gigabyte profusely for omission of asymmetric fan blades (both your models were SOsoooo close Gigabyte) on the p34g / p35k. These (fans) were both a clumsy omission from this design.

    Edit :

Did I mention repasting would be a good reason to open this laptop? : ) And report on back noise. ; ) Good cooling system like this (componets adjacent to vents, - : D - dual fans... Mac design!) and repasting may (I don't want to say definitely will) make a very tangible difference.

Also, if you has a torque screwdriver, 35 Ft/pounds is ideal. That is the ideal safety torque room for on-board solutions. Laptops / desktops will take up to 45-50Ft/Pounds baring special cooling, i.e water, but stock is usually set to around 25lb~30lb depending on the model, (though most all are in that range.

(Reason for this is) Same PC-board, 2 oz copper traces.

I am not a gamer. I am just an experienced engineer who wants me something small and light (but larger than 13.3) that will get me through the next two - three years until Skylake 10nm Refresh (think very cool [tempurature] mobile hexcore and perhaps octcore computersby then, (on the mature 'tock' version of 10nm) and an actual (mobile) ing Video refresh, 16nm Volta. NV (and AMD just as equally on that matter) could produce their stuff on 10nm also at that time, but they won't as TSMC 16nm will be relatively mature by then -seeing as the R&D on the fab side is already done - but amd will be first to the punch, perhaps not by much though. It's up to NV.

At 10nm which is available in bulk production (tsmc) Q1 2016 and will have demo silicon in late Q4, (2015) NV and AMD could skip 16nm altogether, but it won't happen.

Also, tsmc 14nm was cancelled (for volta, --- bummer...) - demorallizing because Maxwell (in late Q3/early Q4 - by the time our good friend [: D] APPL allows any 20nm SOCPlanar wafers to the likes of NVDA, QUALCOM, and if anyone gets them, (first, under APPL's litteral jurisdiction at tsmc) -APPL has the money, and APPL gets what it wants, and it doesn't like suppliers who can't deliver.

Frankly, just in case you all don't know, tsmc is POSITIVELY ENAMORED (that they scored with APPLE) that they're Big Kahuna's one stop shop. However, just so YOU guys know... That means Qualcomm and NVIDIA have to wait for the 20nm scraps when APPLE lets them fall off the table. LOL . And this is not in APPLE's interest since every 20nm wafer consumed means something like 30 less android devices made/tegra / qualcomm cpu's, etc, etc. Not that I care much, I'll share some because we want reciprocate information. ; )

And it's good to know that.. If you need mobile, now's a good time to buy. Just make sure you hang out and are happy with your platforms' of choice definite ~ finite usage for a while. Thank me later.

Maxwell is late Spring -Q2- (paper launch) to Q4 launch, Paper or not. APPL ordered all 20nm (TSMC) Silicon a year ago and AMD, Quallcom, NV are in industry parley, SOL.

Maxwell will come out on 28 Nm As AMD / might manufacturer at an earlier date via Glo Fo, but these big chips won't mean anything for us laptop users. And NV will charge a bit for the larger chips on 28nm. [28nm has already been tweaked relatively extensively, thank you very much. [ Like going into it's third year?!?!?!?!?. ]

Oh, I also like that this laptop is Kosher. It certainly indubitably doesn't Not not say "I'm a gaming scallywag."

I created a 3 min video of the P35K unboxing and you can see it here:
PhotoGlow Photography | Gigabyte P35K laptop unboxing
(This is for a UK specced unit bought from Overclockers,co.uk).

I've charged up the battery and am setting it up now. Initial impressions are very good - apart from the trackpad. Still I intend to use a mouse with it, so not a biggie. The fully charged battery is showing 6 hours on Balanced setting, but it's the first change and that could all change.

My laptop will be used mainly for photo editing, i.e images like these PhotoGlow Photography | Portrait Portfolio & these: PhotoGlow Photography | Wedding Portfolio . Once you start throwing hundreds of 22Mp RAW files around you need all the power you can get. ;)

    A very nice unboxing video!

    Is it made from aluminium?

Looked at your photos on the link you posted. Amazing!!!

I think so. The bottom is plastic and the top is much cooler to the touch. It's got a nice matt feeling to the surface, though it does show fingerprints a bit. My last laptop just had a SSD, so it's odd to feel the vibrations of the 1Tb HD in this one. I'e set mine to switch off the HD after a minute of inactivity, as most of my work will be off the SSD. I've not installed Lightroom and done any photo work yet, but so far it is very quiet in operation. I've left on the i7 and Dolby sticker and taken off the other 6 without issue. Grey mark to Gigabyte for over-stickering. ;-)

    Hey Jonathon,

Can you confirm that the laptop came with a sleeve?

And be sure to enjoy it, btw which Light Room do you use?

Yes, it came shipped in a lightweight black cotton sleeve, which is a little roomy. Not sure if I'd keep it in that.

I use Lightroom 5, the latest. I've had every version since 2, as there is always something in there to save time (and we know what that adds up to ;-))

Most of the reviews I've read suggest that the keyboard has slight flex but nothing unbearable. Still waiting on an absolutely good review. Also I've had an MSI laptop for the past 5 years so I know what bad flex feels like.

Been there, done that. You can read the Standard Korean version to watch 'SinChen silly fast boot video (which Gigabyte has linked to) and know that the 35K comes with a subwoofer as well. Yes, Sinchen the professional Lol-gamer he opened it up, still, only design thing that bugs me about the ultrablade series of laptops: no asymmetric fan blades like the macbook pro retina and other designs. Would improve the noises 2/3 around time.

EDIT: I'll recover the hassle and get it to you. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMMfmGEmIas

    @JohnathonW

I'm also considering p35k with two 1tb hdddrives. And turning them off when not in use. What driver or software utility do you use to dependably do this? : ) I agree, lots of lossless music and photography and perhaps digital vinyl (and autocad works / Solidworks and CNC-ability messing around with light mechanical engineering) needs somewhere to get put. =-] To share one of my uses; also, It would be nice to be able to run my diy stone, wood, and aluminium on this machine! 802.11 .ac seems nice too! And like you, I'm due for an upgrade.

Mine should be here in two weeks. (Confirmed shipping at XoticPC for procurement on 15 October. I'm buying both p34g and p35k..... I think, but hearing about capability to turn off hard drives sounds very good!

Johnathan, can you please share with us, what pinouts the monitor termination to the motherboards are? :hi2:
Temps would be fun too, and let us know if you paste it all up nice and amiably. We want to see what it does to temps / noise. ; )

Don't forget your undervolting! (This is for Less noise attributes as well) Intel Extreme tuning utility / geforce drivers or MSI afterburner. This should help quiet your machine too (at least a little bit).
How R the speakers? ;/ Do you appreciate that subwoofer?

    Cheers,

    Michael/Hennyo Edwards

How is the touchpad Johnathan!!? Please share, people aren't talking about this, but I think it's very important. Can you show us if there's any flex in the touchpad via another video? :)
and "Without further ado, it would be nice if you would share the audio festivities." ;) And if you were REALLLYYY, really neat, what your temps are under repaste if you feel the desire to do that.

Thanks you for sharing with us Johnathan.
I Adore your pictures as well. Very kind of you to share :)

Bloody brilliant unboxing video, and this is coming from a guy out of Salt Lake City Utah at the University of Utah mechanical engineering student.. (post-brief internal inflection and assessment, I think that's the best unboxing I've seen antecedently) successive and salient: your video making skills are the best. It's also nice that your 1080p doesn't seem youtube compressed in your video. Please extricate the (now) hyperbole, but I've watched it three times now, I'm crying because it's so good :'-).

I think you've just swayed me to the p35k, mate. : ) It would be here 2-3 weeks before the 34g too.
I like your sticker solution. Gon' steal that. ; )

P.s. Where (normally - I don't use terminology synonymous as in this clause) on God's green earth do you live? Borough or municipality? Your homestead is to die for. I'm glad you can raise your kids there. Wow; They will have loads of good memories (and opportunities).

What do you do for a living?

    Indulge me. ; )

The only real technological niggle I have with this laptop is it's 16:9; and the fans arn't the right (noise retententioning) asymmetrical type. Hopefully enough people will complain about it and Gigabyte & other manufacturers will get it right in the future.

I like the Macbook aluminum look for the chassis better. But maybe, it's -black- is for the best. It's brings out / accentuates the design in this model (as observed in your unboxing video). :)

    Sinchen also includes load temps. They are scary.. Or at least not pretty;

    Oh, and there's one last thing: we can upgrade this display to IGZO displays. {Which for me is also subsequently a factor or part of my imperative for buying this laptop, too.}

Provided the pin - type allows it, we may be able to put a 4k monitor in.

Another big bonus (scratch that, correct feature) to this laptop is firewire (albeit not 20/Gbps). The 10Gb/ps will be enough in the future if we want to upgrade the display to 3200 x 1800 or 3840 x 1944 and run an EDgpu. I probably won't do this since I'm not a gamer though. Moreover, I want the monitor resolution for all sorts of other things. ; )

    1) but it would be nice to view photos /
    2) occasionally throw a LOL game at either one of these currently in production resolutions.
    3) And virtual machines ./ Linux (for my hobbyist and /brevity incarnate diy CNC programs)
The 765m could handle all of that just wonderfully! These are no more than light workload scenarios and it's just a perfect match for them!

Repaste to boot while you're at it and you have a (already) pretty good cooling system to keep you happy. [or at least relatively, regarding the noise]. Most people don't like noise.

I want to keep this until Volta or 10nm Intel (Skylake refresh - ) CPU's - at which time their will be cool mobile hex cores. Volta will be 16nm 2016 type. (early) Read my pile of fail post here)

Just planning out my purchase since I like to make things last if they're good.
