What kind of magical fairy world do you live in where 90C is too hot for a <1" thick 15.6" laptop?
-
-
So 90c for the gpu and 91c for the cpu are normal temperatures for these laptops??
Does anyone knows where can i buy the bluray drive of this laptop? Because the model gigabyte sells here in Australia comes without the optical drive.

Someone should try undervolting the CPU using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and see if the temperatures get any better.

I think 90°C are too hot no matter how thick the laptop is. A laptop's thickness has nothing to do with temps being too hot or not for a hardware component. It's not really surprising to see temps in this range on a thin laptop with a 870m, but that doesn't mean that these aren't too high temps.
Nvidia for sure doesn't set it's throttling threshold on around 90°C, because they were funny about doing so, but to prevent the gpu of getting even hotter. Temps constantly in this region in my opinion can't be very healthy on the mid to long run... -

I just called GenTech and the lady told me it's still on preorder (should become available next week). Well at least now I have an affirmation. Where did you get yours from WhiteBoy?

I was having a lot of issues with my P35Wv2-CF1 laptop.
- Keyboard heated up to 135F while paying games on Ultra such as Watch Dogs. This made a portion of the keyboard almost too hot to touch. The computer CPU & GPU reached about 90C during this event. I used a thermal temperature gun to measure the heat of the keyboard.
- Fingerprint magnet… I started drawing things using my fingers on the back of the screen.
- Wires are attached to the removable plastic backing which makes it a pain to open up the laptop to replace components.
- The removable bay is only ejectable by using your fingernails to pull it out after unlocking it.
- I had a weird issue where a metal-like tape (maybe used for grounding) bunched up when replacing the ODD with the HDD bay.
- The speakers are under the computer, facing towards you. When I lay my hands over the keyboard to type or use the trackpad the sound gets badly muffled/distorted.
- The screen has a huge frame around it an especially at the bottom. It reminded me of very old laptops, but the reasoning for this could be the slimness.
Things that I noticed, but it didn't really bother me.
- The fans can get pretty loud when games play. Make sure you use a headset because no one wants to hear the fans on mic or yourself.
Good things?
- You have the choice of on what side to connect your USB on. I’m a righty so plugging everything on the left reduces the amount of things my mouse has to stay clear of. It works out nicely that the Ethernet port is on the right too. The charger plug is curved so it doesn't stick out much on the right side.
- I was able to play Watch Dogs and a few other games on Ultra with not too much lag. I did notice that Ultra isn't really playable when I was driving around fast in cars on Watch Dogs. Regardless this is a powerful laptop for the size.
- SLIM! WOW! The screen is so thin and when it’s folded up it amazes me of the amount of performance this device packs.
- The quality of the screen is amazing to me. My eyes don’t hurt after being on the computer for so long. I’m not sure if it’s the 1080p or the matte type display.
- Heat on the computer is distributed so that there is almost no heat around the QWERT part of the keyboard down to the trackpad. This is nice if you plan to lay your hand on the computer while playing games.

Gentech pc

Excaliber
They all had maybe 4 or 5 shipped to them from gigabyte.
So I wouldn't be surprised if they are sold out. I know gentech and excaliber are sold out.
I literally was the first person to receive it from gentech.
I have a past with them so I got it shipped the moment it hit the warehouse -

Haha oh man, you have to disconnect the subwoofer before removing the back panel.... You could have ruined your sub woofer. I thought I mentioned it before to not forget that!
As for this ground wire thing. I think you just had to push it in cause that's a flexible wire so just putt it in properly
That's not an issue.
And the speakers are great. The windows 8 equalizer is awefull!.
Downoad DFX audio enhancer and feel the power and crispness of the sound. When you download that. The best settings I found were
3
3
3
2
2
That's the order of the number from top to bottom on the equalizer -

But congrats on the laptop bro! Looks great! And idk but my keyboard never gets hot....

I got one big problem wit hthe GS60 and the P35W V2. To the owners of the laptop, is the bezel as huge as it looks? Im kinda leaning toward the y50 since the bezel for both of the other laptops looks thick.

I actually prefer it that way..... It's much more classic. This laptop is so classic and old school looking but packs some serious powers literally everyone who saw it told me why is your laptop old but then see what it can do and shhiitt their pants....
And plus with the thickness of the screen. The hinges had to be flat and wide to support and provide strength. Unlike other laptops the hinge is like 0.35 inch thick but this laptop is like 0.08
So the strength had to be given somewhere else like the width of this hinge -

So someone asked a question on the P34G thread that intrigued me: what DO we do if the battery dies? It's not a [conveniently] replaceable one, and I'm not even sure if anyone will sell it.
-
The laptop is beautiful, well built and powerful.
However, with the temperatures and noise it seems like the technology world is not yet ready for a slim gaming laptop.
While temperatures in the C 90s will certainly work for a time, it will erode and damage the equipment before long. I do not know of any technician/expert/reviewer who sees this differently.
Since I do not want to buy/sell a laptop every year, I am afraid I have to go for the Asus ROG G750J series, Too bad, really. :-( -

It would probably just come right off. I assume they would have the foresight that people might want to remove it. -
Frugoo, or anyone else, how has real-world battery life usage been for this notebook? I'm really close to pulling the trigger to buy this.

Removing them is simple, I removed the ones in my old hp and just used rubbing alcohol for the residue. But I agree, it actually gives the laptop a better look and adds flavour to it. I won't remove them of my p35w for sure.
And I noticed that in the pictures you have an ssd drive and you added another 60gb msata.... Don't ever raid those cause they are not the same brand and type. When raiding you need to have two identical drives with the same speed. Or else you'll eff it up -
I've found a video on youtube, about a guy repasting with ic diamond a p34g v2 laptop. The CPU temperatures dropped from 91c to 86c. That's pretty good i think. I'm a little worried about the 91c for the CPU...high IMO.

GenTech just shipped out my laptop; should be here Thursday. Ooh I'm so excited!
Also, for those who has the Intel 7260 chip, can you tell us if you're encountering any problems with it? I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the slow speed issue over on the MSI GS60 thread.

I believe you're going to need a router that AC for compatibility is what I'm reading. -
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 -
I believe because I work at an Ivy League University and they don't have AC routers either so I'm not surprised to hear any university's not having AC routers in place. -

The screen of the p35w/p35g might not be IPS. After reading on gigabyte's website i found that on the specs of the p35k it says "IPS FULL HD" while on the p35w specs it just says "wide viewing angles display and Full HD".

I actually thought about getting another Sager with 870m or 880m but not sure if I want to lug around a 6-7lb laptop again. I actually had a Sager 9150 w/ 680m but sold it to buy the MBP I currently have since it was only 4.5lbs. Figured I wasn't really going to game much on a laptop so I made the switch. Now, there are thin light weight gaming laptops, I decided it might be time to switch back to a Windows gaming laptop if I can find a thin one. -

My webcam isn't working. Device Manager can't even see it. I looked for drivers for it on the Gigabyte download site, and don't see any. Does anybody know what drivers it needs?

There was a video of a p35w v2 with a 4k display on youtube, is there any indication that there will be a Maxwell 870m version in the future?
