As far as I can tell, with light-medium gaming and normal usage, there is absolutely no problem with temperature. Even with high end gaming, it handles pretty well, especially with cooling pad. :) Where did you order it from?

I ordered from Cyberpower. The price difference allows me to get a better warranty and a nice SSD. I'd have ordered from XoticPC because they're great people and they do thermal pasting but they wouldn't price match if it wasn't specifically the same model, which I can understand.

I'll definitely be working with a cooling pad if I do anything intense.

Did you get the barebones version or the gigabyte one? I'm very curious about the barebones version but I think it only has 1 msata slot. Wished they had a spec page to make things easier.

Barebones. I suspect just 1 msata but a better screen panel. We'll see what the results are.

Please let us know when you get it. I'm very curious on the system but 1 msata is kinda deal breaker for me but if the results are good then I can live with one storage option. Just so hard to make up my mind now and with rumors of 900m release in the next few months makes it even harder to decide.

Weird thing happening to my p35w. If i'm charging the battery and i shutdown the computer, and then disconnect the charger, the battery charging LED indicator stays on, without the charger being plugged in.

These are my temps while playing watch dogs, after repasting and using intel XTU for undervolting the cpu. The highest temperature for both the gpu and cpu was 85c. Which is an improvent for me.

Can any of the other owners of this machine tell me. How much is the wear level of the battery in your laptop?

Mine is 2%. By the way, not sure if anyone knows but we do have one custom VBIOS that I got over at TechInfernal. The person who modded it told me it had already been undervolted, which is around -18 mV from the looks of NVIDIA Inspector. I can't seem to lower it any further.

I'm going to Taiwan soon. Where exactly can we find this laptop there?

Deciding whether to go with this or P34G v2 or Y50 UHD.

    Hi,

So to install 2nd mSATA drive you have take apart the bottom cover? The use RAID0 on 2x mSATA drives, does the 2nd drive have to be also a Lite-on LMT-128M6M or could Samsung 840 EVO mSATA be used? Does the BIOS/EFI support running RAID0 on mSATA drives and will there be a speedup? Thanks.

I went for the Y50 UHD, because it has an amazing IPS screen ( and of course 4K).
But I mut warn you, and anyone considering this laptop, that 4k is not properly supported yet by all apps (scaling), that the screen is locked at 48Hz (software issue apparently) and that although all other colours are beautiful, the yellows are mustard like (this can be fixed with color calibration and keeping screen at minimum 50% brightness). I bought it because apps will soon support 4k I hope, and because I think the 48Hz lock will be removed. I fixed the yellows as said before. For more info check on google "Y50 UHDscreen color calibration".

Also the screen is insanely glossssssyyyyy !!!! I ordered a screen anti-glare film to fix this. At the moment I can only use it in TOTAL DARKNESS if I don't want to hurt my eyes. But for 4k (sooooo beautiful), I am ready to make all those compromises. Good luck in your choice, I already summarised the key infos on the Gygabyte laptop (you can check the quote at the beginning of the thread). Make your choice accordingly. Hope I helped :)
P.S.: 4hours browsing battery life with Y50 UHD (squeezed)
Also the Y50 UHD runs very cool, CPU and GPU temps are excellent, the Gygabyte has very hight temps, but a better graphic card. The main reasons why I chose the lenovo is because of 4K and because I want to keep it for 3years (high temps of CPU and GPU of Gygabyte laptop make me think it won't last that long)

Anyone have ubuntu to try this laptop? Would someone with raid 0 be willing to boot it to a live CD and run these commands? None actually change things, they just list things so I can check support.

Thanks for the advice. I've read about the yellow color and refresh rate issues in the Y50 UHD but I knew they weren't big fusses.

A month ago, it was my first choice. The best spec comes with 512GB SSD and is still relatively cheaper than most of the other slim gaming laptops.

Later came across the P35W v2 and it made me wonder how come Lenovo couldn't fit at least one mSATA slot into its relatively thicker chassis. Definitely don't need 2x SSD in RAID, but deep down I think it is nice to have at least ONE additional storage, although I'm not fully sure.

The battery is also not as strong as the Gigabyte. Not significant, I know, but together with the rear grills that serve no purpose other than aesthetics, I'm getting the feeling that Lenovo has been quite complacent in terms of the choices they made.

I'm now in a position where I wouldn't bat an eyelid if the Y50 had an additional mSATA. Likewise, the P35W v2 if it came with the cooler 860m Maxwell. Between 860m Kepler (as seen in P35G v2) and 870m, I would choose the latter since they're both hot anyways (at least that's what I've been told after reading on the GS60), and also because my country is not selling the P35G v2.

I'm also holding back from the P34G v2, partly because of its small screen size, until I see it in person as it is also not yet for sale in my country.

These days, been considering the Acer V Nitro Black-Edition too.

Hey, I was thinking about buying this thing. However where I live it is really hard to get anything other than the Basic Version without an OS, SSDs and with 8gb of RAM. So my solution would be to purchase two 250gb msata SSD's by Samsung (or would one 500gb SSD be better?), along with the Laptop. Is there any reason wh this won't work or will everything be fine with that?

Does anyone know which model of internal bluray drive can i buy to use with my notebook?. I already have a dvd drive that came with the notebook. So, i want to buy a bluray drive and just replace the faceplate with the one that came with the laptop. Maybe someone that has a bluray drive which came with the notebook could provide me the model and brand please.

Just get one 500gb drive. The performance gain you'll get from RAIDing the SSDs will be imperceptible and your system will be less reliable and less expandable. Upgrading the RAM on this machine is easy.

    Hey guys,

quick question about repasting, does anyone have experience with the Xoticpc repasting? how well does it work compared to doing it yourself or a service center? and what are the service centers? does the xoticpc repaste void the warranty?

    thanks

I wonder if using the max fan option on the smart manager for long periods of time, could cause some damage to the fans in a couple of years. I use the max fan option only when i'm playing watch dogs and my temps always stay below 80c. For other games i use the Auto option.

Could you take some pics of the viewing angles? I'm assuming you got the version with two ssd's? Thats the CF4 version. I called Gigabyte and they said the screen in that one is an IPS. I'm worried about the angles still. Your comment has made me more worried.

This photo here shows terrible viewing angles. Can you confirm that these pics are accurate or take some pics like I asked?

Hey im new to these forums I have some question i'd like to ask. But first I pan on buy this computer (UK) from Cyberpower https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/ZEUSBOOK_EDGE_X6-100 since its about £200 cheaper and I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise, I want to firstly clarify that it is the same computer as the Gigabyte P35W V2, I know the specs are the same bar storage and ram, the chassis is the same but i cant find a shred of information from cyberpower saying that the chassis is the same as gigabyte, I know it sounds stupid and every aspect of the computer are the same from each i believe, but i just doubt myself. From looking at the cyberpower website (USA version) they sell quicker ram speeds of 1866mhz compared to the max of 1600mhz can the computer be upgraded to take advantage of the higher ram speed because i though the max the laptop could take was 1600mhz. Furthermore from reading every single page of these forums of this laptop i have picked up that, it runs hot mid 90s on cpu and gpu, it pulls finger prints A LOT!, some IPS screens have light bleed and the middle of the keyboard is spongy due to a thin aluminium keyboard.
    1. Would you recommend this computer from the site i said above, I need it for uni for a mobile gaming computer that doesn't looks stupid with all the gaming garnishes.
    2. Is the screen strong does it flex and move, would it be strong enough to travel around.
    3. Where can i find that carbon fibre look alike top to stop leaving finger marks.
    4. are there any regrets about this computer

And lastly can i add vgjfelix I love your videos, I could kiss you they are very clear and detailed, they really made me consider this as my main purchase, my other consideration was the Clevo W230SS for I feel the portability factor is better. Am i making the right decision, PLEASE let me know your opinions they really matter to me, P.S I will make a purchase in a few days from now so vast detail and good reasoning would be great.

I'm in the same boat, but look at it this way:

    - Should hopefully be rolling out 3 weeks or so from now. If the P35W v3 has already been tested with a GTX 970M then it would potentially be ready for release as soon as the new GPUs have been unveiled on the 18th September. We could see it right away, but likelihood is it will still be a week or two after. Bear in mind manufacturers know whatever laptops are on the shelves first with the new GPU will sell fast. There's a huge incentive for companies to push their products early on.

    - Only buy right now if you 100% have to. If you desperately need a new rig to do stuff then buy one now. If it's possible to wait a few weeks (like myself) and get by with what you've got, your patience will be rewarded.to put it in perspective, the 970M is 200% better than the 860M. That could give your new laptop a lifespan of another 2 years or so. The FPS you get in games would be doubled. When something so good is so close, it's hard but just try to grit your teeth and wait it out. Patience is a virtue :p

I am interested in purchasing the P35Wv2-CF5 Gaming Laptop from Newegg.com.

Before I buy it, however, I have a few questions:

    1. Does this particular model that Newegg sells come with an 802.11 AC wireless adapter?

    2. If not, can I buy one and replace the one that the laptop comes with? And which adapter would you recommend?

    3. What color is this laptop? On the Newegg site it looks purple/lavender but on other sites (including the official ASUS website) it looks black.

Here is a pick from Newegg:

Does any body here hear anything before the fans start going(I don't know how to describe it, but sounds similar to a HDD scratch)?

And where to get a carbon fiber skin?

Been having this laptop for over 2 weeks now. I gotta say my experience with it has been great so far.

Those who are finding faults with the design: I would say the design is focused on practicality. I don't think you can find another laptop that offer 4 storage slots and an 8-cell within a slim chassis like this, even if you have money. In fact, mine does not have the purplish tint and it looks better than the pictures on the internet.

If the you are worried about the display and it is holding you back from making the purchase, I would say that the display should be the least of your concerns. I think the colors, brightness and viewing angles are amazing. No light bleed on mine.

Both the GPU (85 degrees if not mistaken) and especially the CPU (92 degrees max) does run hot and loud during full load so I'm still unable to play a relatively simple game like DotA at max settings. NVIDIA game optimizer claims it can but I witnessed some strange jerkiness going on after an hour so I immediately lowered the settings as I don't want anything to happen that can reduce its lifespan. I also underclocked the CPU. Now it stays below 75 degrees both CPU and GPU and the fan hardly needs to go turbo.

It makes no sound at all during normal usage though.

Few days after I bought this, I learned that Gigabyte might be releasing a v3 of this laptop with GTX 970M or 980M. I have no regrets though because I won't wait that long and the price is going to be more expensive. I feel there isn't much that Gigabyte has to improve for v3. A GTX 970M on this machine will make it even faster, cooler, and longer battery life.

It is a great laptop but I would advice anyone to wait for v3.

The GTX 970M has a 40-50% increase in performance while using around the same power. Ouch, that's a huge slap in the face for us 870M owners.

Is 870m integrated with motherboard or is swappable?

Hey, for any owners of this laptop out there, would you mind telling me how hot the GPU usually runs during extended gameplay sessions on modern titles? I ask this because I really want a P35X v3 - which is the direct successor to this model but I'm concerned how well it will be able to cool the 980M.

I'm really glad I cancelled my Cyberpower order after they backordered me for 2 extra months. I'll look at a P35X I think as well.

Is there any reason to wait for the v3 if I am not needing the video performance increase? v3 also seems to be quite a bit more expensive on the pre-ordering I have seen.

    Thanks!
