Its a shame australia aint getting the OCUK version 1..... i have no idea what gigabytes global warranty is like....
i tried to make an account on OCUK but they denied me.... gehhh!! -
Apparent, a P35X running BF4. Hope more videos of temps etc. start rolling out too, if this is true.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015moviemarketing likes this. -

Video title clearly says: P35X V2, not P35X V3
-
BTW, does P35 have Display Port or Mini Display Port? can't see them on pics, but some site list them with one mDP.

Maybe a bit off topic, but i saw some comments about overclocking laptop screens lately. How does this work and will it be possible on the p35x v3 (or has it been possible on the v2?)

Probably not a good idea on a 15" ips.. maybe you can get 70-80hz But one dude that tried with his brand new g751 (In the g751 thread) Poor guy got his origin window burned into the pixels XD but he said it went away tho..

Any reason why it wouldn't be straightforward to swap the stock 1TB HDD with a SSD (say a Samsung Evo SATA 840)?
The website spec for the P35X indicates there are 4 storage slots: 2x mSATA SSD and 2x 2.5" HDD. I assume one of the latter HDD slots is the removable storage tray. I *could* use the swappable bay but I'd prefer to have that for DVD or whatever. I'd like to do away with HDD altogether. I found the manual online, leaves me none the wiser - it's pretty sparse to say the least! http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/p35-manual-en-v3.pdf
Any advice appreciated -
You have to take the entire bottom panel off to access the HDD and make the swap. Unfortunately there's no easy access panel like there is with the RAM. There's a cable attached to the panel, which you have to unplug before taking it completely off but other than that it looks like it's just a matter of undoing and redoing some screws.

Perfect, thanks for the quick response. Only just realised that your sig reflects exactly this approach - I was a bit concerned about the form factor, but will go ahead now and get this arranged too... looking forward to when this lands!

My main draw to the P35X was the ability to have so much internal storage. I miss the 6TB I had in my 9377 and can't believe I can do the same thing in such a thin machine.
-
Up to 5TB! Or 3TB if you go exclusively SSD

I beleive there are 1TB mSATA drives, are those compatible?

Do any of you backup files to hd in the laptop??? Hell, arent you afraid it will get stolen or something? I backup everything i got once a week on a external and hide it in case of burglars come here lol noo need to have a old spinner inside a laptop imo..
-
I back mine up pretty much monthly. I have a full backup external I keep connected to the desktop, an offsite copy, and another copy I keep in my laptop bag.
I know I am overkill but I get so annoyed by my entire family and how they don't do ANY backup. Then they get mad at me when I need to wipe their drive, and each time something bad happens they have to start all the way over. Tried to teach them but I gave up years ago.
I sure hope 1TB msata's work because that's what I ordered mine with! So I'll be at 6TBKaozm likes this. -
Anyone know if 1x16gb Sodimms would work in this laptop? This would alleviate my worry of only 16gb ram?
DRAM Memory Modules | 16 Gigabyte DDR3 unbuffered DIMMs | Intelligent Memory
^ Found these, could stick 2 in for 32gb total, seems to work w/ most laptops created late 2013 and up. I'd assume with the new Gigabyte there SHOULD be support. I'm gonna send an email off to the Gigabyte reps but would be great to hear from someone that's done the same. If this works then this would be the PERFECT laptop. -
Really keen to ditch my current laptop and get the 3k 980m monster thats called the p35x v3!
My laptop is a legend of old tales:
HP compaq 8710w
Core 2 duo T7700 2.4 ghz
Quadro FX1600M
Company installed 32 bit windows XP... Only 2 of 4 gb ram available ._.
130GB HDD
17" 1920*1200
Plays World of Tanks at lowest settings 1200p at 30-60fps...
So yeah this will be quite the upgrade

Why you no bother to maky the ssd in this pc?
-
Appears that the HP Elites w/ 4600 CPU's are able to support it, so anything IVY-E and up seems to have support, all that would be required would be adjusting the MRC in the bios IF anything.
So I guess the next question is do we have anyone in the Gigabyte forums that performs bios mods? Similar to Prema?Reks likes this. -

The P35 may recognize the RAM, but there might be some stability issue.

Scan might have stock as soon as Monday according to their ETA of the CF2 model (03/11)! Reviews must be very close now!
So far I've seen 4 versions of the P35X. I've highlighted the specifications/components exclusive to each individual configuration in bold:
CF1 - WQHD+ display, i7-4860HQ, 16GB RAM, 2x128GB mSATA (exclusive to Overclockers UK, and marketed as such)
CF2 - FHD display, i7-4710HQ, 8GB RAM, 1x128GB mSATA (available from all retailers/resellers that stock the P35X worldwide)
CF3 - WQHD+ display, i7-4710HQ, 16GB RAM, 1x256GB mSATA (currently only available from Scan in the UK, but not marketed as an exclusive, so I expect to see it popping up elsewhere eventually)
CF4 - WQHD+ display, i7-4710HQ, 16GB RAM, 2x128GB mSATA (available from all retailers/resellers that stock the P35X worldwide - except in the UK; where it appears CF1 will probably be sold instead)
CF2 stands out from the rest as being the most different. CF1 is essentially CF4 but with a different CPU (and vice versa). CF3 is essentially CF4 but trading the RAID array for a more traditional larger single mSATA SSD configuration. CF4 is the only one that doesn't have any exclusive components - it shares everything with at least one other configuration. -
can someone ask atom80 on the ocuk forum if the global warranty is available anywhere or only travellers?
-
He (or she? I'm guessing he) only answers during the working week so don't expect a response until Monday. I'll let you know the response as soon as I get one!frysie likes this. -

This week that should change. There will be reviews this week. That, I'm sure of.
EDIT: we have the first temperature report! From that youtube video showing Battlefield 4 on the P35X linked earlier in this thread. Someone asked how the temps were in the comments and got the response: "After playing BF4 almost 30 minutes in Full-Option, GPU temperature was 72℃ from GPU-Z." Sounds promising! -
Don't want to risk waiting for another month or so after placing my order. -

This laptop seems like a slam dunk home run. As long as the keyboard isn't mushy. 0.8" thick, 5lbs, GTX 980m @ 75C (want to know CPU temps though), uses cheaper and readily available mSATA instead of M.2, only thing it needs is a Killer Wi-Fi card instead of Intel. Hope we can get a little more info soon as far as system temps, fan noise, and keyboard.

Now to wait for that keyboard review on the P35x v3. Hopefully its not the same as before. If so, I'll have to do modifications to make it not flex...
-
This might be a silly question but I'm new to this, but is the killer wifi card the best on the mark? Also is such a card in the P35X V3?
-
"during 2 hours game play, peak temperature was 82℃"
So I assume he meant GPU temp. He said he'll look at both GPU & CPU temp for the next video.
82°C sounds about right as the load on the GPU would have been greater at maxed settings. Still cooler than my 780M in my great big 17" Clevo! Not bad at all! Also, temps would have been lower had he decided to enable vsync, as that would have limited the FPS to 60, thus reducing GPU load. Also, I bet if he had used the maximum fan setting, he could have shaved another couple of degrees off that temp too.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015moviemarketing and RMXO like this. -

Trying to hold out a bit longer but at this point I'm pretty much sold on this model. Looking forward to your feedback once you get the precious in your greedy little hands, Cakefish.

Hey guys,
I looked around a bit, but wasn't able to get a definitive answer.
Will the 3K screen scale properly for movies that are FHD, web-browsing, games at FHD etc. ? I don't want to be stuck with something futuristic that I cannot use right now.
Are there any disadvantages to the 3K screen? I'll go for the 1K screen if that is the case.
Thanks,
flamy -
It will scale fine, but do you require running at native resolution? There is no magic to it, some people will hate not running native all the time, and others wont mind running games a little lower resolution.
I am in the latter group, and already run some of my older games at 4k on my external, at 2560x1440 on some medium powered games, and on most demanding games I run 1080. I usually lower the resolution with max settings, in order to maintain higher FPS. For windows & text I usually run the highest the screen I'm on will allow but I've even run that lower at times. For these super high res displays it makes less and less of a difference compared to older lower res displays running non-native (in my opinion of course).moviemarketing and flamy like this. -
All in all, if you are worried about resolution scaling, go with the 1080p, such resolution is even acceptable for 34" external monitor, of course it will be fine for 15" laptop display; otherwise, go with the 3k and get those fine details.

So, if this laptop turns out to have okay GPU temps and high CPU temps & fan noise, then what are the tactics to manage that? Been a while since I delved into the laptop world, but from what I've gleaned from these forums recently I've heard talk about capping frame rates, undervolting CPU, use of throttlestop to regulate CPU, raising the rear of the laptop to improve airflow and finally, repasting of CPU. It might sound self-defeating to be considering dialling things back a bit (especially before the damn thing has landed!), however I would still appreciate something that operates at 90% of performance potential if that means (partially) mitigating issues around heat / noise. Would be helpful to know what P35X owners are planning to do in that regard.
