    Thanks.

First, I tried the most recent driver available at NVidia: 391.35
But still the my external display (which is connected through display port) is not recognized when the computer wakes up from hibernation. So sad. :-(

Then I deinstalled this driver. Did I mention that deinstallation was interrupted with a blue screen ( reason: nvlddmkm.sys)? I managed to deinstall the driver and rebooted properly, after a few minutes running Windows, somehow the previous version 388.78 was installed automatically. WTF?

    This notebook is wonky.

Well, not exactly. You need to use DDU to uninstall the NVIDIA driver to do a complete job of it. Then install the latest NVIDIA driver.

Thanks for pointing to this tool.

Still, I first wanted to play this "deinstallation game" to see where it would lead to. So I deinstalled this 388.78 and after a reboot and a couple of minutes into running Windows 10, another nvidia driver was installed automatically (which I could tell from the tray icon "NVIDIA GPU Activity" that appeared out of nowhere).

According to device manager, I'm now at 382.66. The "hibernation issue" has not appeared since. However, the nvidia settings tray icon is gone. :-(

Open nvidia control panel, and under the "Desktop" menu enable "Show Notification Tray Icon"

If you cant get to the nvidia control panel by right-clicking the desktop, you can open it directly from C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Control Panel Client\nvcplui.exe

Ares, thanks for the excellent instructions. I don't really need the nvidia settings tray icon, all I wanted was to have access to the control panel. I completely forgot about the Nvidia control panel context menu. That's sufficient for me. Anyway, my nvidia control panel offers in "Desktop" menu the following items only: "add to desktop context menu", "add run with graphics processor to context menu" and "Display GPU activity icon in Notification Area". All items are checked.

I don't know where Windows pulled that old nvidia driver from (maybe it keeps old drivers around), but for the time being, I'm now sticking with that nvidia driver 382.66. That works for me. ;) Thumbs up, Windows 10. Well done.

Thumbs down, however, for Gigabyte (and nvidia) as they apparently are unable to provide working updates.

New Aero 15w, has been running OK for a couple of days, all of a sudden today it's hitting 52c at idle (really idling, 0% -1% CPU) and GPU (1060) won't turn off,and fans behaving oddly. Using Smart manager on Gaming mode, fans are only just above 2000rpm. I can only get them to spin up to 2750 if I use the Deep fan setting.

Any ideas where to start? Not happy with these temps, not keen on a repaste as there goes my warranty.

Could you go to nvidia control panel and enable the GPU activity in the taskbar? It should tell you what is using your GPU. I think you might have an old version of Smart Manager that keeps the GPU on but idle.
Make sure your Gigabyte stuff is up to date (through smart update maybe).

Thanks for the suggestion. I've just had Smart Manager change language to Chinese, too, so I've uninstalled 7.29 (which I'd downloaded from the website) and reinstalled the version from Smart Update (7.05). It's definitely an issue with programs hogging the Nvidia GPU, as soon as that goes away in the task bar the temp drops, so I'll try a clean reinstall of the GPU drivers too. I'd forgotten how much I hate Optimus!

    Quick question,

If all the aero series laptops are x-rite pantone display certified. Does that mean that it is guaranteed with zero back-light bleed from before they ship to a reseller? Is the back-light bleed caused by the shipping process itself?

Pantone xrite is just a color ICC profile aka software. It just makes colors on the screen more accurate.

Backlight bleed is hardware, and unrelated to that, and a little bit of a lottery.

Hi guys. I'm having issues trying to get 4k@60Hz from the USB-C thunderbolt 3 port, through a DisplayPort 1.2 interface in the monitor.

In theory, the Intel HD Graphics 630 should be capable to output all of that, but in practice, when watching playback video 4k60ps, the video stutters every 3 or 4 seconds.

I tried playing with the Intel(R) Graphics Control Panel a bit, with no luck. I even disabled the built-in screen, so I make sure the intel 630 is only outputting pixels at the 4k screen, but the stutters are still there.

Do any of you guys have this setup working fine? I'm a bit concerned, I'm not sure if the issue could be comming from the intel 630 or even from the thunderbolt 3 interface, but both cases would be rather painful.

Of course, using HDMI or DP over the NVDIA card, everything works fine. But that's not what I'm asking about here.

Is there any official way to get a battery replacement without going through gigabyte? My battery has been effectively destroyed for the last few months due to some bad QA with the battery housing tearing some of the wires and now I can't find an official replacement anywhere.

I received the new Aero 15x (FHD) yesterday. Have done a full reinstall of windows to remove the bloatware and beforehand copied over the color directory to a USB from:

    C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

Full reinstall seems to be the right idea and has got a lot of the crap off the laptop however I would like make sure can get the correct color display config from the x-rite pantone calibration. I understand the correct file from the above directory is the .icc file (mine starts GGG_) however how do I actually install this on the laptop and make sure it loads up each time? I have gigabyte smart manager and latest nvidia and intel graphics drivers installed however finding it all a bit confusing to be honest how to make sure is back to original display config. Any help would be appreciated.

You can check it in "color management" in display adapter settings.
You also can see at windows startup that your display become warmer when color pforile activating.

My laptop is now down to 89% available, but when it's unplugged it immediately turns off. Clearly it doesn't seem to actually be charging, so I'd hate to see what happens when it finally reaches 0%. I guess this means the battery is somehow disconnected from powering the laptop and can't get charged, but can still be recognized. Anybody got any ideas on what this means?

I plugged my phone into the power adapter's USB slot and it says it is charging very slowly, so it could be the adapter is part of the problem although it doesn't explain why the laptop turns off as soon as it's unplugged.

I received my new Aero15x V8 yesterday. Am pretty happy with it so far.
I don't want to do a fresh windows install, I ****ed up my last laptop with that. I must have done something wrong in the process and I had a lot of issues with it.

So what bloatware can I delete and how?

    @snisni I also use 100 % scaling

So II have done a GPU Benchmark on UserBenchmark.com and come out way below average

Overall this PC is performing way below expectations (13th percentile). This means that out of 100 PCs with exactly the same components, 87 performed better. The overall PC percentile is the average of each of its individual components. Use the charts in the benchmark sections of this report to identify problem areas.

Processor With an average single core score, this CPU can handle browsing the web, email, video playback and the majority of general computing tasks including moderate gaming when coupled with an appropriate GPU. Finally, with a gaming score of 47.6%, this CPUs suitability for 3D gaming is average.

Graphics 3.72% is too low to play 3D games or use CAD packages. (Note: general computing tasks don't require 3D graphics)

Boot Drive 158% is an exceptional SSD score. This drive is suitable for heavy workstation use, it will facilitate fast boots, responsive applications and allow for fast transfers of multi-gigabyte files.

Memory 16GB is enough RAM to run any version of Windows and it's more than sufficient for nearly all games. 16GB also allows for very large file and system caches, software development and batch photo editing/processing.

OS Version Windows 10 is the most recent version of Windows, and the best to date in our opinion.

So not sure what is going on there

Also sometime when i click on something it freezes sometimes for second.

So if anyone knows whats going on let me know thank.

One other thing. I am afraid the double key press, might not be fixed. I got the laptop for 1,5 days and it happened 4 times. I first thought I must have accidentally pressed it twice but the 3 and 4th time i am sure i didn't.

Ok, no worries about the benchmark. I think i might have not run it on the GTX 1070

PC Status Overall this PC is performing as expected (59th percentile). This means that out of 100 PCs with exactly the same components, 41 performed better. The overall PC percentile is the average of each of its individual components.

Additionally this processor can handle typical workstation, and even moderate server workloads. Finally, with a gaming score of 97.4%, this CPUs suitability for 3D gaming is outstanding.

Graphics 79.2% is a very good 3D score, it's the business. This GPU can handle recent 3D games at high resolutions and ultra detail levels.

Boot Drive 165% is an exceptional SSD score. This drive is suitable for heavy workstation use, it will facilitate fast boots, responsive applications and allow for fast transfers of multi-gigabyte files.

I would assume that both things would help noise, since temperature dictates fan speed in normal and gaming fan profiles. My 15 (not 15x) is undervolted by 125 mV and that reduced temps by an average of 9° C but I didn't test before and after with an SPL meter.

Pair the undervolt and/or repaste with a custom fan profile, you can get a nice balance.

I thought I was the only one with this problem since I couldn't find any other posts on this.. A little glad to know that I'm not the only one now.

I think my battery has hit the 0% mark since I don't get any flashes when doing the touch pad battery check now. It still works fine and will turn in if it's plugged in though.

I'm hoping that the battery only got unseated somehow but seems unlikely since I hadn't moved my laptop from it's spot for over a week..

I bought a set of torx bits to remove the bottom cover and see if reinserting the battery will fix it so I will update once I try that out.

Hey mate, Ive also just received my 15x 8 this week and can confirm that out of the box it occasionally double types. I was able to get it sorted for now by turning on bounce keys and lowering the time delay in the registry. Totally understand not wanting to have to go to that extent for a machine of this price but like you said I love everything else about it so far so I dont think I'll be returning it just yet.

Alright i have sent gigabyte a message about the double types and got this answer:

"Would like to double check you if the key chattering issue occurs in a specific application? or it occurs in every application, even type a text file in Windows Notepad? If the issue occurs in a specific application, please let us know the name and the version of the application and product serial number for our further checking.

Nevertheless, if the issue does not occur in a specific application, we are sorry that a further examination/repairing done by authorized service center is required. As you just purchased this product, we suggest you to backup the data and contact your supplier (where you bought this product) for assistance.

    Regards,
    GIGABYTE"

I have received my Aero today, it works great, was experiencing a few issues like the double type and a bit of lag, I have not gamed yet, however once I updated all of the drivers from the Smart Update app everything seemed to be fixed.

However my shift key is not lighting up properly in terms of RGB lighting. Do some people have that as well?

Would you guys recommend to replace the trackpad drivers with Window Precision?

Now down to 65% battery. Got the RMA approved after three days of waiting so gonna send it in. The form they want filled out asks for the brand names of all the parts in the laptop, which is rather hard when they're the ones that made it, so I filled it out the best I can. I don't know how they expect me to know the brands of SSD and RAM they used.

Yeah Ive got lighting issues with the shift keys as well. The text on the right shift barely lights up, but I can see the light underneath the key so I know that the light is at least working. The left shift key lights up but is a bit discoloured. Its got more of a green tint to it than the rest of the keys.

Just purchased the laptop and receiving it today.
Anything I should look for other than keyboard/trackpad issues (which I'm hoping won't be there, or at least not that bad).

I plan on testing thermals out of the box (using cinebench and rog realbench).
Then I'll be opening it up and doing a repaste and running ixtu undervolt and doing a retest of thermals.
I also plan on reinstalling Windows (Microsoft factory, not Gigabyte).
Are there any really useful or needed Gigabyte apps? And am I able to export or copy the factory gigabyte image without using a 3rd party tool?

Well, crap. I have the keyboard issues too. I'm really not keen on doing a registry hack to fix a hardware problem aat this price point. See that double-a, that's whaat it's doing. I'm purposely leaving the errors to demonstrate. You'd think that after the last round of problems they'd have sorted out the keyboard issues.

The Gigabyte support driver page under utilities has a keyboard firmware update with today's date. Not sure if it addresses the issue with the keyboard everyone is having, I just received my laptop so haven't even opened the box yet but thought I would let everyone know.

Thanks for posting. That seems to have fixed it for me. I'm typing this on the keyboard without edits and not seeing any more double registers. I'll update if I notice the behavior again, but it really seems like Gigabyte is making a more concerted effort to support this model. I was also having some color/contrast and screen brightness issues initially that resolved with one of the recent updates. Compared to the Lenovo I recently returned, they are being far more proactive with launch issues.

For me the firmware update to 3.0.8 did not fix the problem. I thought it did at first after typing a few paragraphs, but you can see in the image below that keypresses are still getting repeated.

It may be possible that the fw is rejecting some repeat keys, but I'm still seeing repeat keys getting through that are just 39ms apart (on the aero with 3.0.8).

I think this repeated keypress issue is a physical problem with the keyswitches, because
1.) Gigabyte recommends sending in the laptop to get the keyboard replaced if you have this issue
2.) I have 2 aero 15's in front of me and both have this issue, but with different keys
3.) Triggering the chattering seems to depend at least a little bit on how the key is pressed

If the problem really is with hardware then it's going to be impossible for a keyboard fw update to totally fix. The software wont ever be able to tell whether a fast repeated keypress was intentional or not. At best it can try to reject keypresses that happen too quickly but obviously gigabyte's firmware is not even doing that appropriately.

Even if they manage to push a simple fix with a higher threshold time to the firmware, it's going to run into problems. I have seen in both the aero 15s I've tested that some of the repeated keys happen up to 180ms apart. If gigabyte eventually pushes an update that rejects repeat keys quicker than that value, then they wont catch all of the phantom presses. If they do set the tolerance too high, then it's going to mess with typing.

If anyone is hoping that a keyboard fw update will solve the chattering, I would think again. A software patch for a hardware problem like this is basically just doing the same thing as the windows registry tweak/keyboard chattering fix app.

I am not able to replicate your results while clicking random keys as well as normal typing. Are you seeing the problem while typing normally or just when pushing single keys as in your picture above?

You can find it in the Gigabyte SmartUpdate app if you still have it installed.

Hm, ok I think its much better now since the new keyboard firmware update. I don't really feel like sending it in. It still does it occasionally.

So have been running this little chatter fix program in the background, which caught the last mistakes.

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Keyboard-Chattering-Fix.shtml

I placed it into the startup and selected minimise on startup and set it on 90ms. So I don't even noticed its ruining, apart of having no more chatter issues.

PS. my right shift key is also not lighting up

    Hey guys,

I recently bought an Aero 15x v8 and its my first gaming laptop. My question is: do you guys perform windows update on the laptop, or just the drivers in the smart update. I did both on mine and it seemed to have screwed up some of my drivers. Eg. The audio jack could not detect any headphones and nvidia could not detect my gpu.

I sent it back to the store and they couldn't seem to fix it and so they exchanged it.

Im thinking if I should try updating windows again on this new set or not and was wondering what the communities experience are like.

    Thanks!

I got my Aero 15x v8 now, but there are some serious problem.

    1. Double-input issue with keyboard has been solved with keyboard firmware 3.0.8. But now I have ignored input issue. If I types the edge of key or too fast, it's just ignored.
    2. Intel and Nvidia graphics driver aren't upgradable(no appropriate device has been found). Only ones from Smart Updater can be installed, but they're seriously obsolete.
    3. If I install Intel Graphics driver from Smart Updater, there are often freezing and when I play youtube and other hardware-accelerated video, there are only green screens(I think it's related to this).

Any solves or tips are welcome.

Having an issue with where FN+F3 (or F4) does not adjust brightness.
As a matter of fact, the only FN+F# shortcut that works is volume.
    Any advice?
