Also worth mentioning: the windows 10 "full screen optimizations" can cause issues for some. I think maybe this feature is specific to video games, but is also present for media players? Not positive.

Anyway, it's a compatibility setting within exe properties, so if you're having a problem with a full-screen program then try testing it with these optimizations disabled. https://mspoweruser.com/tip-fullscreen-optimizations-might-hurting-game-performance-windows-10/

Not sure this news is very good, at least for owners of the 15 and 15x. I certainly won't be buying another Gigabyte laptop in the foreseeable future, I just don't trust them to use a decent display. I'm keeping my 15 because I can't justify spending $1800 on another notebook at this time, but it's got the worst display of any notebook I've ever owned, and I have now learned my lesson.

What's the purpose of a 144 GHz panel if a GTX 1060 can't mantain a such high framerate?

ok one last thing to try > turn off whisper mode in geforce experience and change the display scale and layout to 100%. The display scale caused some issues for me when it was set at 125%, some programs dont like it and the desktop icons dont stay put.

My Aero 15x stopped turning on today after a day of commuting. It had full battery when I packed it yesterday, today pressing the power button does nothing. It was inside a Mac Book Pro Retina Thule Case, inside a backpack with clothes and it fell off a low couch last night, that's probably ****ed something up. However it has taken much more abuse than that on my commutes and business trips in the 2 months that I've owned it and I've grown to trust the Thule case to protect it well.

I opened it up to check what's inside (why the hell was it so difficult to do?) - anything in particular I should be looking at?

The SSD seems to be in place (although it's next to the battery, it seems that most people have that slot empty). The right side of the battery is not attached to the insides of the laptop.

RMA'ing is very undesirable as it would take months and I live in a country where it will likely be stolen when I ship it.

Any suggestions? Should I try getting to the CPU or GPU to check it? WIll it Void the Warranty?

Maybe it somehow ran out of battery when left in the car in freezing temperatures and what's broken is the power adapter? I don't know how to check it, as Aero 15x doesn't have the usb port in its adapter.

Try unplugging/plugging the battery connector. It may have detached itself.
Else, try turning it on with the AC adapter plugged in.

[EDIT] I unplugged the battery completely, plugged it in and it gave me a tiny spark. But still no luck.

The power brick seems to work as it gives sparks when I plug it in as usual. But connecting it doesn't do anything, no leds etc.

I tried switching the ram into a different slot - also no luck.

    Anything else to try?

Just to confirm - removing heatsinks doesn't void the warranty, right? Is there a possibility that something has come loose under the heatsink - although I can't imagine how a CPU can get dislocated.

The cpu is soldered on so thats pretty much impossible without a lot of force. No need to look under there. I see this problem happen from time to time with gigabyte laptops, bricking without any reason.

    EDIT: FIX.

I contacted Killer support. They gave me a set of steps I was unable to find anywhere. In Device Manager, right click on the WIFI adapter hardware, click properties. Go to the Power Management Tab (this tab has nothing to do with the normal Power Management section in Control Panel). There is a box that is checked by default to turn off the adapter to save power.

Once I turned this box off, I dont have any issues. Killer explained Windows has constantly been an issue for laptop users due to multiple settings for the same thing being somehow separate from other settings.

    Hope this helps others.

    All,

Anyone having issues with the Killer Wireless 1535 wifi adapter?

My power options don't disable it when I close lid. However if I close lid and sleep my wifi adapter is no longer recognized. The only fix is to do a full shutdown and wait longer than 5 minutes. Most times when I reboot it shows up again. If I restart it doesn't even show the adapter.

I'm leaning toward buying a better wifi adapter and installing myself. Built systems before so not intimidated by the tight space and ribbon connectors.

Just wish there was a fix. I updated my chipset and the killer wifi adapter. The fact that the hardware disappears from device manager when this happens...makes me think it's bad hardware. I am leaving for work out of country and won't have time to rma with Gentech PC.

@factory_666 i had the same issue : laptop with battery suddenly stop, no led nothing.
I only manage to get the first led on (the bulb on the right side) by plug to power and press power button till the led switch on but still no fan, no hdd on :(
I finally return it (still waiting any feedback). As i'm in a country than the support do not support, i had to use a third party. Anyway, Gigabyte supposedly got the laptop around 8-10 march, still no feedback :(

I have the same laptop for work and it's working fine, i connected 3 screens, everything is fine so far.
Some one try the last Bios FB0D ? It's very annoying and not pro from Gigabyte to not display any changelog for BIOS :(

That click noise is most likely a relay sound/relay circuit trying to open or close.
I don't know how relays work however.
Might be something blown or dead on the mainboard. I saw you already sent it to be replaced or fixed.

Here, I'm posting the first reference on the english-speaking web to what is the genuine power supply of the most powerful and lightweight 2017 laptop in the world, the Aero 15X:

    G-Style G200W-U5V2A-A
    AC Input 100V-240V~2.5A 47-63Hz
    DC Output 19.5V continuous, 10.5A
    USB 5V 2A
    Max power 215W
Manufacturer: Dongguan Yu Jia Electronics Co., Ltd.
    This:
    https://ibb.co/hyNRLS

    https://ibb.co/fRe1n7

And God please help me, I can't find any place online or offline that would sell exactly this adapter without the attached laptop, although it's been out for 5 months now in Europe. And sorry, no, I don't speak Chinese so I can't go and buy it on the Chinese net.
    So, what happens if:
    - someone loses his adapter
    - the adapter breaks
    - it gets destroyed for any reason
    - or, like me, you just want to have two adapters, one at home and one at work, so you don't take it out and plug it every single morning, and as a backup if you loose one?

All I've found is the Chicony adapter for Aorus laptops, the A11-200P1A, that sells in a few places. But nothing from that Chinese manufacturer that was picked by Gigabyte to manufacture their G200W-U5V2A power supplies. And I'm a bit wary of connecting a different power adapter, knowing how the 15X is fragile and can "break" easily. 95% chances it will be OK, I know, but it's a €2000+ computer still.

Is it only me or have other 15X owners struggled with this issue too? Did you find it somewhere?

    Thanks a bunch!

I was excited to find out about the Aero 15x as it might fill a new need I have. However it seems this is 200 pages of issues... how are the Aero systems? Are they riddled with problems or are they fine?

It's a luck draw honestly. For example, the only problem I have right now is that the thermals are much higher than what others get over here, even after a LM repaste. But I can live with it.

If you are interested in the 15x, you'll have to wait for the new variants to come out in the next few days since the old ones aren't being sold anymore. In this case you'll have to just wait for reviewers and users' experiences before buying it.

    Hey everyone,

Recently got a new Aero15 with W10 and some things are acting up quite a bit. Here's the breakdown:

    Search isn't working (well)
Any time that I try to use the search option just isn't working well at all. I attempt to search for programs such as paint, skype, adobe, or anything else and I get "searching..." Forever. I've also noticed that it usually works just after boot, then shortly after then, it stop working.

Folders are typically always in use, even immediately after I create them
Any time I create a folder, I cannot change the name of the folder or move it. It always says "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program". No matter what, I have this issue.

    Restarting... basically doesnt happen.
If I attempt to restart, I get a forever restarting screen. Dots just circling endlessly. Maybe this is just coincidence, but shiii- what the heck?

    Shutting down... sometimes doesnt happen
Same thing as above, but with shutting down. I hate holding my power key for something this consistently

Skype is always running in Task Manager -> Processes.

I noticed this because I attempted to open skype via search, succeeded... However it was frozen. So i end the process via task manager and it goes away. Now, when I try to open it again via start menu, it just sits on the blue loading screen. I can close that window, but when I go to processes, it's open and I cannot end the task.

    ----

Personally, It seems like some sort of virus or something however, I've never visited any(ANY) sketchy websites and I have both Malwarebytes and Bitdefender installed. Any suggestions? Maybe it's a program getting in the way of things when windows boots up?

I had the same issue with my Alienware 17r4 after a repaste with LM and repad. Turns out I was getting L2 Cache Errors on the cpu which prompted it to pull higher voltage then it really needed. Had to swap the motherboard out.

It worked better after some more reboots...but I still see this
"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000012b (0xffffffffc00002c4, 0x0000000000000563, 0x000000000026ba30, 0xffffc200f868a000)." and that " Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
I think my issues are related to the NVIDIA driver and therefore I'm not now installing the latest 391.35 from nvidia.com.

I started having some blue-screens coming from hibernation that after some testing I found were related to the NVIDIA driver as well.

In my case, a complete removal and reinstallation of the latest NVIDIA drivers fixed the issue.

Try disabling Hyperthreading in Bios if you don't absolutely need it, it will shave off some 10-15°C off your peak CPU temperature. It has no benefits for gaming (google it if you dont believe it) and is only good for stuff like video Editing and other multi-core specialised Software. On the other hand, it massively increases CPU temp

I didn't use my XPS15 much since arrival (~1month ago), the only issue I'm experiencing so far is that sometimes, a key stroke is registered twice ( "bananaa"instead of "banana") despite having updated to the latest Keyboard FW. There's a fix but I really shouldn't have to hack the registry in order to fix stuff like that on an 2000Eur machine...

Btw is the XPS supporting a NVMe drive together with a M.2 SSD drive, with both working at full speed? Or will the NVMe have reduced speed in that case?

That kitguru guy is an odd one. He stated: "The fresh air intake in in the hinge, while the hot air gets exhausted trough the bottom." I've heard him say that about one or two other laptops and it's funny every time.

My Aero 15x has been pretty odd in terms of Wifi connectivity. My spare laptop Macbook air and smartphone works fine with my internet router, but sometimes somehow Aero 15x wouldn't connect so well saying theres no internet connection. When I plug off and on the router the laptop catches wifi connection. Everytime I had this problem, I reset the power of the wifi router. Now I am pretty annoyed as it regularly happens like three times a week. Does any one know how this can be solve?

Yeah, it's just a baffling error, and I noted it way back when the Aero 15 first released and he did his video for it there as well.

I mean, it just doesn't even make any sense. Look at the fins of the fan, you can easily tell which way they push the air.

Utterly embarrassing for what is otherwise a solid tech site.

So I wonder how bad the display is on the new 15x. The ones in the review models are clearly a different type than the production models, or at least hand-selected for the best possible results.

What's good is that the MSI GS65 is also using the same panel, so I would presume the panel itself is decent.

Thats kinda the price that has to be paid for thin laptops. You cant have it all with laptops. Want it powerful and quiet, it needs to be big, want it thin and powerful, it will be loud. Want it small and quiet, it will not be powerful.

Edit: Solved the issue by doing a system restore to 10 days ago, but... I don't know what caused the issue. In case anyone is curious and/or has the same issue, the "unknown devices" turn out to be:
    • BTH\MS_BTHLE = Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator
    • BTH\MS_BTHBRB= Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
    • BTH\MS_BTHL2CAP= Microsoft Bluetooth Protocol Support Driver
So what I think may have been happening is that the enumerator wasn't functioning, so previously paired devices didn't appear in a list. Which means I couldn't un-pair, before attempting to pair again. So they just didn't show up when scanning for new devices. I don't know whether to blame windows update, or what. I'll leave the original post below.

    -------------

Anyone have an issue where Bluetooth won't connect to any devices that it has previously connected to? Seems like my headset and controller have been "blackballed".

Both devices previously worked with the Aero15, and these devices just now can connect to another computer with no problem. The Aero just refuses to see anything but new devices. Pairs fine with a different headset that it has never before been paired to.

I've attempted to reinstall the driver directly from Intel. No dice. Tried rolling back to the latest version shown in Smart Update, no dice. Turned off power saving from device manager....

And now I'm seeing three unknown devices. All three have location "on Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)". Harware IDs:
    • BTH\MS_BTHLE
    • BTH\MS_BTHBRB
    • BTH\MS_BTHL2CAP

This wasn't a problem a week ago, and I've spent the last 3 hours troubleshooting this to no avail. I'm absolutely stumped.

not true. i've been using laptops since the early 90's so, obviously i'm very used with fan noises, but nothing is compared to the horrible noise of this hideous laptop. after a few weeks of use the right fan of this laptops will start making weird noises and you'll never be able to use it very close to you. this was already happening with Aero 14 and it happens on most of Aero 15.

i have mine about 2 meters away from me, on the floor behind a couch, i always have to work with noise cancelling headphones and i still can hear the noise. this is by far the worst experience i had with a laptop.

watch this so you can have an idea:

anyway, the noise on mine is even worst than those 2 examples.
i know lots of thin laptops and nothing is as bad as Aero 15.

Did you try re-seating the fans youself?
I think the fan might need to be reseated. This happened to me a few days ago (albeit it wasn't as loud, but I noticed it). I opened up the laptop and pushed the fans in a little bit, moved them around etc. Worst case you'll have to remove the heatpipe assembly to actually take the fans out, but local adjustment worked for me.

While I agree with the other person that thinner laptops tend to have higher fan noise and it's an acceptable trade-off... The clicking noises you gave examples of are definitely atypical and unacceptable, and indicate faulty/broken fans.

interesting. how's that? i only tried to clean with a blower many times. i opened it to see if something was touching the fan, because it sounds like there's a paper touching the fans. it's horrible even in silent mode.

I poked around at the blades with my finger, then pushed right at the middle. Turned on my laptop while the base was still off to check if the noise was still there. It was, so I did that again. Second time was fine and has stayed fine since. My next step would have been to remove the heatsink, but I didn't want to do that since I probably would have to reapply my LM.

EDIT: This was the left fan for me (right side of the base), not the right. But I assume it might still work.

I thought it was about general fan blowing noise and not clicks or grinding noises

guys, what scale % you recommend to use on 15.6 screen? by default it is 125%, but many aplications and windows look blured. Better to set 100% (no scale) and try get used to small items on screen?

I use 100%. Yes, everything is small. Yes, I've forced myself to get used to it. I moved from very large monitors, so I'd rather have screen real estate than text I can read from across the room. It just means I need to use my glasses.... ;)
