    Just noticed that too.
No changelog obviously. It's not as if Gigabyte customers were more like "power users" than random users who don't care at all about updates and changelogs...
Since the Spectre & Meltdown vulnerabilities are fully fixed since previous version FB0C/F008, I'm not sure this update is about security.
Is it a random bug fix? Performance improvement? We will never know...

I take my Aero 15 to work every day in either a back pack or like a briefcase style carry bag, and have no particular issues with mine.

One thing I did was get a second charger to park at work since carrying the laptop + charger is quite a heavy combo and removing the weight of the charger really makes a difference.

In fact, the only thing I'm worried about is about my liquid metal repaste, and that moving the laptop around a lot has somehow diminished contact since I'm seeing higher temperatures than I used to, but that's specific to my situation and won't affect stock units.

I think the main thing you have to be worried about is the keyboard double-tapping keys, and there has been a fix posted for that in this thread.

And another common problem is backlight bleed along the bottom bezel. I have a little, and honestly don't notice it but if you get a bad screen with a lot, I'd imagine that would get boring fast.

I never had issues with keys double tapping, but I have one of the very first bathes of this laptop and feel like a lot of the reports of keyboard double tapping are from later revisions, particularly the 15x.

As.for key combinations, do you have any for me to test? I don't really use many in my day to day.

However, since I have one of the first revisions I suspect I have a keyboard that can't execute some combinations and, iirc, older revisions of this laptop required the keyboard to be replaced.

I think, but might be wrong, that all new models don't exhibit this behavior with the keyboard.

Sure I'll try them and get back to you, but as I said I have an older revision. Hopefully someone who more recently got theirs can also try.

    Hey everyone,

About two weeks ago, I got an Aero 15w. Battery life was doing great, hovering around 7 hours, all up until it wasnt. It's now averaging about 2 hours. It started on the 11th/12th.

Anyone else have this issue? I notice that recently the computer had a critical windows update. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Any suggestions?

I'd like to submit my battery report, just not sure how to.

I've attached my battery report to hopefully help.

The fall creator's update hurt my battery life quite substantially.

Do you have any monitoring programs active? MSI Afterburner, HWINFO, etc.? I found that for my and at least 1 other user having monitoring active kept CPU pegged at 10~15% usage.

Also, what is your power profile? If it is set to high performance via smart manager, it'll peg your CPU to a higher clockspeed, too.

Nah, no other programs have been added. I added Bit Defender and Malware bytes, probably the only two things monitoring at all. But when I look at the below screen shot, I feel like it says a lot.

as far as power profile, ive tested "balanced" and power saver

Could you check your power draw with battery bar?
According to you, I think that the GPU is always on which should show ~45000 mW power draw. You can also check if your GPU is being used by going to the Nvidia Control Panel > Desktop > Display GPU activity.
If a program is using your GPU, it should show what is.

You can kill those applications through task manager > processes.
Get rid of those and tell me what you see.

Sorry, I meant details instead of processes. That way you can match the process with what's shown in the GPU activity box.

EDIT: Smart Dashboard turns the GPU on to check its temperature, else it would only show IDLE

    What's your power draw now?
You can just type it out, no need to upload more pictures :)

EDIT: Microsoft.StickyNotes is still running, I suggest you kill it.

I used to have that problem where one of microsoft's metroUI apps would randomly start using the GPU even though I never open/use them. It fixed itself though.

    EDIT2: So is ApCent

I ended them both, after some time im now still in the 43kish area. Currently updating windows, maybe that could help? Maybe it installed something that was intended to be installed with a certain version of windows that didnt install? I'll update you when it updates me.

Spotify has been closed, now its nothing (which is more usual, as i cant use spotify at work)

using 14k at 57mins time remaining, 53.5% battery life.

14k sounds about right. To fix the spotify thing, go to its settings > show advanced settings > Disable Hardware Acceleration under "Compatibility".
While my Spotify did have that enabled, it used the intel GPU and not the dGPU.

Oh thanks, I went and did that. It's still doing its thing.

This windows update is about 10% away. Only thing I could think of is, directx or that windows critical update somehow relied on a newer version of windows 10, and now they're acting all funny. This likely isn't the case, but I hope it is. I'm on version 1607 (os build 14393.2125) right now

Don't worry about the estimated life shown by battery bar, it'll calibrate after a few use cycles.

Here's a thing, I have steam now running on the 1060c as well as an epic games launcher.

Which is making me think, how many of my programs are defaulting to 1060vram?

    Hey all,

So I recently bought an Aero 15x for a huge chunk of change (against my better judgement). While it looks absolutely beautiful, its performance leaves something to be desired.. It's had a few issues since I've owned it.

Firstly, the general slowness. It will temporarily freeze when moving the cursor (once in a while). It also takes a long time (~15 seconds or so) just to open up the file explorer.

Secondly, the base gets warm when doing simple non-intensive tasks. These can be things like editing an image in Microsoft paint, or just browsing the net with no more than 1-5 tabs open.

Third, it has a GTX1070 max-q graphics card, which should be great for gaming. However, when running a game such as Guild Wars 2 (Not very graphically intense) I get from 11-15 fps at the maximum graphics setting. This is completely flabbergasting to me, and leads me to believe that there may be an issue with my laptop in particular. For reference, I can run Guild Wars 2 on my desktop (GTX 970), and get a consistent 90 - 120 fps. I have confirmed that what is being used is the GTX1070, and not the on board graphics card.

Has anyone experienced any similar issues, and found a solution? To me these issues are both unjustifiable and unacceptable given the price of the laptop (paid $3000 AUD for it).

I thought I would share my gigabyte experience.
I bought a used like - new aero 15 from amazon.
First thing I did was get google chrome and it worked fine. Then I set a back up and updated all my drivers and windows. After that I started to see visual artifacts on screen. (About 10 to 20 random tiny black pixels at any given time only when a program was open. I got them on chrome, and pubg but not my home screen) After 3 hours of updates and driver roll backs. I disabled the gpu and it started working fine. So i assumed the problem was the driver. I tried the 3 most recent nvida drivers and none of them solved the problem. I'm not sure if the gpu was really the problem or I had another driver that wasn't compatible with my gpu driver or maybe some fix of that. I talked to an amazon tech over chat. Described the situation and she immediately just said it was defective with out question.Tired of trying to fix it i just returned it and order another, new this time.
All i know is if this happens again, I'm just going to try another latptop. But on paper its an ideal laptop for me so i wanna try it again. I currently have the dell xps 15 9560 btw for over a year now.
If someone had the same problem or just any comments or questions let me know

Side note: 1. All my driver up dates were through device manager except a few like the keyboard lighting control driver. 2. Online it said overheating was a cause but i got it even when pc was fresh on and cold to touch. 3. I had no performance issues like the post above it. I got over 100 fps on league.

This sounds ridiculous. There's no "general slowness" to be expected here. Definitely RMA it.

Killer WiFi 1535, upon wake up and reboot stops being detected. Doesn't even show in the yellow in Device Manager.

Anyone have an issue with this? Sometimes if I reboot without being plugged into power, it will magically work as expected.

This was a custom build, windows 10, aero 15w from Gentech PC. Emailed their tech support.a week ago...no reply.

Hoping someone knows what's causing this.

Again, the killer adapter doesn't show at all nor as a device. Random shutdown and power on after 3 or 5 times will sometimes make it come back on.

Are you sure it's not running on the intel gpu instead of the dGPU? Right click on it and run with the nividia gpu to make sure it does that. Some of my games defaulted to the iGPU (such as megaton rainfall).

My Epic Games Launcher also keeps the GPU awake (I have to force it to run on integrated graphics sometimes, thought it doesn't bother me too much since I mostly game when plugged in).

I will most likely have to do this.. I'm just worried, although contact with the re-seller was good, my experience with Gigabyte support was not nice. Hopefully I can get this sorted without too much cost.

    Interesting.
Do you only have that issue with that game?
Try doing a clean installation of your gpu drivers. Check your CPU clocks, power plans, etc.

EDIT: Uninstall GeForce Experience if you have it. I had the same issue with DOOM on my unit, but turns out it was geforce experience messing with it for some reason.

I'm not sure why this happened. But if it keeps happening, you should download the driver onto a usb. So everytime its missing maybe you can update or install the driver from the usb for a quick fix. I formatted my aero 15 and lost all drivers. So now i have a usb with them on it.

This game, not being very intensive, runs at 8-15 fps. When I try to run some of the latest games, I get 1 fps. I pretty much have to force-close the game as I can't even navigate it at that fps. My CPU clock on the Aero 15x seems to be @2.80 GHz. This seems very low, as my desktop, running a i7-6700k, is clocked @4.00 GHz.

I also just tried uninstalling GeForce Experience, to no avail unfortunately.

I have attached an image showing my system's BIOS (apologies for the image quality). Apparently, it is the most up-to-date one according to the system itself. However, it looks very dated, and does not offer many options, such as a way to change the clock speed or the amount of useable RAM. Does your Aero15x have a similar BIOS?

Laptop CPUs have a lower base clock than their desktop counterparts. You can have it run at ~3.6GHz if you use the High Performance power plan (Gigabyte has it so that the CPU clock is pegged up around there when plugged in, 2.8GHz for Balanced).

Laptop BIOSs are very much locked down, hence the lack of customisability. I think the useable RAM and other things are in the advanced tab. I own the regular Aero 15 so it's going to be hard to compare stuff, but the BIOS looks pretty much the same.

I now feel like there's either a GPU defect, or Windows is messing with some things.
I would try and re-installing windows (you can keep your files and apps, just do a refresh). Hopefully that will help.
I really hope it's not the former.

Could you also make sure Hardware Acceleration is enabled in the bios (I think that's also under advanced). It should be since you are using your GPU, but just want to be sure.

Your cpu can run 3.4GHz on all four cores, but the issue is with the GPU....are you still in the return period? If yes, since you already tried various troubleshooting steps, just return it and get a new one. If not, contact support for RMA after further troubleshooting doesn't resolve the issue.

I see, thanks for the information.

I don't think I can do this at this time. I don't currently own a copy of Windows (I'm using the copy that was already on the laptop). I will purchase a copy and do this if the manufacturer is not cooperative.

I checked the BIOS and I can confirm that "3D graphic acceleration" is set to enabled.

I appreciate your efforts to help me so far, thank-you!

EDIT: I've also noticed that, from time to time, the cursor will freeze, and the screen will flash a light yellow followed by a light green, before returning to normal.

Sadly, I am out of the 7 day return period. I am, however, well within the warranty period. I've written an email outlining the steps I've taken thus far and have sent that to the reseller/manufacturer. Hopefully that works out.

You don't need a new copy, just download the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant and download a new copy to install over your current one. That'll keep all your apps and hopefully fix any stuff wrong with the installation.

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten about that. I just went and did that, and unfortunately, the I've ended up in the same placed with the same issues. Again, I thank-you for all your advice; I guess my only option is to get this laptop repaired or replaced.

I've had this problem where I was getting very low frame rates when working in Unreal Engine, my laptop was plugged in and power plan set to high performance but it was still not performing as expected until I did 1 very simple thing . . I opened the smart manager and changed my fan settings from "quiet" to "gaming"! or you can change it to customize and set the auto maximum to 100% so depending on load, it will adjust the cpu and fan speed accordingly and you'll get the full 3.4ghz when required. Remember smart manger is very powerful so don't underestimate it's bad looks! :D

Another time I couldn't get my webcam to work, Windows couldn't find it, opened device manager and it wasn't even listed in there, checked in bios to make sure it's enabled but still . . open smart manager and there we go! it was disabled in there! So smart manager overrides all other settings . .

Appreciate the suggestion mate. I checked out the smart manager, and it seems the fan was already set to 100%. I retried the game and it's still at the terribly low FPS, sadly.

Guys, are keyboard shortcuts still not fully working? Can someone test (ctrl+shift+alt+y for example)?

I literally fixed all my issues by buying a legit copy of windows 10 and wiped the entire thing. Once I did that, I installed some of the more useful gigabyte tools like the smartmanager and smartupdate.
Update the drivers using the latest versions from nvidia, intel, etc. Do not use smart update for them. If plugged in while playing, switch to high performance mode.

Additionally, check your display settings. Some games have issues with windowed/fullscreen, so check both modes to see if there is any chance to your fps. Lastly, Are you using an external monitor? Personally, I have to make sure that the laptop display is off when playing on an external monitor otherwise I get crazy dips when its trying to display on two screens. Windows+P to change to 2nd monitor only.

Did you do the repaste yourself? Are there any aero 15 specific online instructions on how to do it / how to disassemble the laptop and get the heatsinks out?
I just ordered some Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal paste and am planing to do the re-pasting myself
