Welcome to the forums! My current Sager was BSOD machine out of the box, and I got it right when Windows 10 came out, to make matters worse. I had the same BSOD happen if I unplug my machine when the Nvidia card was running. Basically I always had to make sure I shut down my games before I unplugged from the wall. Moral of the story, every time I saw that BSOD it was because of Optimus and my graphics switching at a bad moment. You already said your drivers are up to date, but I have seen a few posts about the most stable video drivers on this machine to be the older ones from right out of the box. Have you tried rolling back your drivers?

yes maybe there's some interference occurred between fan and other parts (ex. bottom cover) which was caused by bumping so maybe try to open the bottom cover and re-screw the fan, or re-arrange the cable around it

Does anyone still have that black screen plug when booting/resuming with a HDMI cable plugged in?

I noticed this fix in the NVIDIA driver 391.05 from a number of months ago (not officially released for the laptop though):

    > Booting from a cold boot results in black screen on a multi-monitor system. [2052447]

Just received my 8750h 1060 model. Had a 7700HQ that went back due to keyboard issues but so far (crosses fingers) this one is a keeper. Smart Update hasn't been very smart, so it's gone, but apart from that, it's great.

-100mv undervolt with Throttlestop, fans set to gaming, and Witcher 3 runs around 75c. Haven't repasted yet but would use Kyronaut as this has been a great paste for me on other machines, but stock paste seems OK for now.

It puzzles me that these high end laptops come with so little storage - take the MSI GS65 with one model with just 256gb, crazy. I have the 512 Crucial SATA SSD in this Aero 15, so I'll be looking to add an additional NVME drive. Also the RAM is the one V-color 16gb module, so might look at adding another to run dual channel. Reading this thread RAM compatibility is an issue. Also, just wanted to ask about opening the case - I know it's T6 screws but does it need a lot of force/ are the clips delicate?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

About RAM compatibility issue, my model (8750H + 1070 maxQ) works fine with 2 different RAM sticks (original 16 Gb V-color + G-skill 16 Gb), but I guess I was lucky given the number of cases where it does not work (even with two of the same RAM sticks).

For what concerns case opening, once you've removed the T6 screws, you do not need to force a lot, I personnaly used a guitar pick to slowly unclip the edge of the case. No big difficulty here ;).

The clips are agreeable. Ever since I broke several clips on my old XPS 15z backplate I decided to be extra careful and bought a set of ifixit guitar picks and use multiple ones to gently separate the backplate. I found that these didn't seem ultra fragile.

Question to anyone playing Assassin's Creed Origins on their Aero 15: do you experience random crashes after a few minutes playing?

Ever since I installed the DLCs, it keeps on crashing after 2-5 mn of gameplay. I've already tried updating to the latest Nvidia + Intel drivers with no success so far... So I'm wondering whereas I'm an isolated case or if others experience similar issues?

I just had the weirdest ram compatibility issues with a corsair vengeance 16GB. (pardon my english, not my main language).

So i just bought this 16GB Corsair Vengeance CMSX16GX4M1A2400C26 for my Aero 15w 8th Gen hoping that it will be compatible with this v-color ram. Installed my Ram, pressed the power button, then blankscreen. I can hear the fan spinning, but no Gigabyte logo, nothing, and then it turn off by it self. Matter of fact, it shutdown by itself then turn on by itself numerous time which is very weird. So i just press and hold the power button for like 15 - 20 seconds to make sure it turn off, then i took the RAM off, use the Corsair RAM without the V-color with the same blank screen issue, swap slot also with the same issue. Using the v-color RAM WITHOUT the corsair is the only way to boot to windows.

Then i remember i have this laptop from work that have an 8GB DDR4 Corsair Value CMO8GX4M1A2133C15 installed. So i just swap the 16GB Corsair with this 8GB from my office laptop, i now have a total of 24GB (16GB V-Color + 8GB Corsair Value). Out of nowhere, It successfully boot windows up, all without any issue whatsoever . Windows detected the 24GB RAM, i can browse the internet without issue, play some games without issue. I thought Corsair is not compatible ? ok lets try swap it again with the 16GB Vengeance to try my luck. Swap the 8GB Corsair Value with 16GB, then boot it up with the same blankscreen and turn on - off power loop. I just tought oh well, the 16GB is not compatible with the Aero 15.

So what the heck am i going to do with a 16GB stick ?.. well.. why not use it for my office laptop ? so yeah, i installed it, boot up windows then i thought, lets check CPU-Z. The CPU-Z shows that 16GB Corsair Vengeance have JEDEC Profile which makes me think this ram supposed to be compatible based on what people said on forum ( isnt it ? or am i wrong ? ). So lets try my luck one last time.

Lets swap different RAM right now, so I then took the V-Color ram off, swap it with the 16GB to try my luck again. Now i still have 24GB of ram but both from Corsair. well.... it boot up successfully to windows. I can log in to windows, browse some internet, restart several times, check CPU-Z and run some games. What the hell happen here ?! I thought the 16GB is not compatible ? or maybe because of different brand and such.

Lets do a final check. Swap the 8GB Corsair for the original V-Color RAM just for fun.. heh.. so i can have 32GB of RAM like what i want in the first place. Swap it in, Turn it On, and then... windows login.... Everything is ok, and now i have 32GB of RAM (16GB Corsair Vengeance + 16GB V-Color) without any issue whatsoever. Weird.

why the hell it wont boot up in the first place ? i have to do this stupid RAM swaps between laptops before i can boot successfully with this new Corsair RAM. I just dont understand. what the hell did i do wrong in the first place ?...

    TL;DR

Bought 16GB corsair ram, wont boot. Swap it with a 8GB with success. Then swap it back the 16GB with success. Oneself is confused.

When you say crash, do you mean your computer or just the game? if its just the game then its probably just the game and not the PC/drivers. If you installed through steam i would verify the game cache since its a quick and easy check. Right click the game in steam -> properties -> local files -> verify integrity of game cache.

I don't have DLC, but I remember having issues of a similar manner on older nVidia drivers while connected to an external monitor. I updated drivers to 391.1 (although they are not officially supported) and it runs pretty smoothly.

Another traveling business consultant here choosing an Aero 15x, welcome!

Thanks for the link to the spare power adapter, I've been looking for one for a while, now just need to find the same one in Europe. Is it thicker than the Adapter that came with your laptop? I want to make sure that it fits into my laptop bag: https://www.amazon.com/Thule-Gauntl...r=1-5&keywords=thule+15+inch+macbook+pro+case.

Also your link points to an AC3 model, which is 150W is that correct? Cause the AC1 model (200W) is the one for 15x and as far as I understand 15x Needs up to 200W. Be careful using a lower Wattage adapter, it might damage the battery, especially when you game or load your CPU with work related stuff.

Thanks for the tip! So I tried it, without success so far... btw when I say crash, I mean game crash, not computer. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to reinstall the game entirerly and see if this fixes the problem :(

I checked out some of the AC: origins forums today and a lot of people had similar issues, the solution was almost always just video drivers. I would listen to Factory and try updating your drivers. If that doesn't work, I would use DDU to completely remove your drivers and reinstall the newest ones directly. I don't think reinstalling the game will help on this one, but who knows.

I'm looking to add some extra storage to my 8750H 1060 model. It came with 512Gb. Can anyone who has added an extra SSD tell me if I'll need to buy some M2 screws to go with a 970 Evo PCIE, and if so what size?

nope no need. There is a holding screw on the extra M.2 slot on the motherboard already. I added a 960 last week to my 15x

Confirmed and nice to see - had an Asus once that had no screw which was annoying. 970 Evo added and apart from me forgetting to assign a drive letter to the new SSD, the whole thing took 10 mins. I do like it when a laptop is easy to service/upgrade. Can't bear flipped motherboards (like the GS63VR) that make it so hard to do the simplest job.

Personally, I would not do it since a non-proper application severely diminish the cooling capacity of the laptop. That said, while I am interested in the performance of the graphite thermal pads, I have not tried them myself. Keep some extra thermal paste in case things don't perform the way you want ;)

It is safer to disconnect the battery in general, but no, it is not necessary to remove/disconnect the battery to remove the fans+heatsink. The battery is adhered to the chassis AFAIK, but you could just unplug the cable.

From what info I've gathered so far, it appears that the aero 15x doesn't have have (unlike most of the slim max q models) an additional CPU power limitation under combined loads, but just to be sure, can anyone test for this with aida64?

    These would be the steps:

1 use the high performance power plan (in case this is overridden by the main management app of the notebook, use the profile in that app that gives you the highest performance and maximum fan speed) and force max fan speed,

2 start aida64, go to tools and select aida stability test,

3 in the stress test window click preferences, go to general and change the sensors refresh rate to 1 sec, so it matches the throttling refresh rate,

4 tick the following boxes is the stress test window: CPU+FPU+Cache+Memory+GPU (don't tick disks),

5 select the UNIFIED tab to be the main active tab,

6 on the left side you have a button that can be dragged downwards, drag it until the grid values on the left show 0 to 100 instead of 0 to 200,

7 stretch the window in all directions for better viewing (preferably to the entire length of the screen),

8 start the stress test and capture a pic just before the start of graph reaches the opposite side of the window/screen while the stress test is still running (10 min of testing should be sufficient, but do take another pic just before you stop the test, this would be in case that the starting of the test didn't fit in the length of the window after 10min),

9 post the pic using this: https://postimages.org or the app https://postimages.org/app (with imgur they are not easily readable).

A really biased question: why do you think one should prefer the Aero 15x to the Razer Blade 15?

15x is positioned cheaper than the blade 15 with similar specs.
Blade 15 has forced power limit throttling, which cannot be changed. No idea about the 15xv8, but my 15v7 doesn't have that issue.
Razer QA/QC is relatively worse than Gigabyte (customer service at both is mixed, would recommend buying either laptope from a 3rd party like gentech or the MS store).
Aero 15x is better at expandibility (2 M.2 slots vs 1 on the blade)
15x has a larger battery, better cooling solution IMO.

Anyone having CPU throttling issues when on battery power?

I have smart manager setup for AC and battery to be performance mode.

It seems i have to reboot with power cable, then load game, then remove the power cable for it to stay at 3.9.

if i do not, it will stay from .7 -1.9 ghz ( But if i use throttle stop with my -100mv undervolt, it keeps it at 3.9 ghz- weird i know, but i do not want to keep throttle stop open just to game on this laptop while on battery )

I am using the stock windows install without a wipe, so using all stock gigabyte drivers.

FWIW about 10 pages ago I asked about picking up an Aero 15 used and you guys we're very helpful.

So I went ahead and got it. It's been working extremely well so far. The screen certainly isn't perfect but it's more than adequate for my needs. I wish I had a way to force the keyboard backlit to be on all the time and set static colors with reactive effects but life will go on.

Would like some idea on where to get a second 16GB ram stick though.

I have noticed since the 1803 Windows 10 update, My Rear USB3 port on the right side does not accept USB3 Hard Drives. USB2/3 USB Keys work fine, however not my 1-5TB hard drives. I have checked in the smart manager the latest drivers are running. I have checked there is no issues regarding drivers in the Device Manager - however one item in Universal Serial Bus controllers is labelled "USB Composite Device", where as the others seem to be labelled USB 3.0 device etc.

Anyone have a solution for this? Is there a way to feedback to Gigabyte directly regarding this issue?

I have recently discovered a keyboard issue with my brand-spanking-new Aero 15w-V8. The "k" key creaks when pressed, and feels like it's coming close to being stuck in the down position. Is there a fix for this?

Here's a link to the Reddit post with my video of the problem, turn your sound on.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/gigabyte/comments/8w0xz7/aero_15wv8_k_key_issue/

    Edit:
Perhaps I could figure out a fix if I could take the key off....how would I go about doing this?
If it is impossible to fix, would I want to try to RMA it with the reseller I bought it from, GentechPC, or from Gigabyte itself?

I didn't know about the Razer power limit, can someone confirm if it is a problem that also affects the 15x v8?
As a newbie, the Razer seems better to me in cooling solution. Why do you think the Aero is better?

The power limit throttle isn't an issue on the Aeroes AFAIK.
In my experience, the Aero has had more efficient and effective cooling that the Blades. The vapor chamber, while an amazing idea, cantc fully be tested because of that power limit throttle.
That said, the common user wouldn't notice that at all, only when putting the laptop under heavy load will that be a problem.

So for the moment, the biggest issue is the instability due to the drivers, isn't it?
Anyone knows if running linux on this machine is a pain (in terms of instabilities, driver availability and so)?

I did run openSUSE for a while, it was decent, but driver support was pretty limited. I only used it for a limited time until I switched to a VM. The battery life is worse on linux vs windows 10 per my testing (I ran on the intel GPU with manual graphics switching, so no problem there).
The touchpad was awful (mainly because I'm used to the precision drivers on windows), and would sometimes not be detected (had to reboot a couple times for it to work).

Overall I would not recommend it, just because of how unstable things can get, but if you absolutely need it, I would recommend keeping a dual boot so you can switch depending on what tasks you're doing.

I've also had poor experience with this laptop running Ubuntu 16 or 18.04 - it usually freezes during the initial install. I could run it live, but I couldn't get it to complete the install.

Also, I just joined the forum to share my experience with the Aero 15's keyboard. The original one was faulty as everyone knows due to the problems with multi-key combinations. I created an RMA with Gigabyte and they replaced the keyboard no questions asked. When I received the laptop back, the multi-key combination issue was solved but then the keyboard was having a new issue with several different keys printing multiple characters despite having only pressed each key once. I recently RMA'd the laptop a 2nd time and requested a prepaid shipping label which took several calls to finally get. Gigabyte has been working on the laptop for several weeks now and they emailed me yesterday requesting credit card info to charge me $200 in labor and parts to look at and repair/replace the same keyboard they just replaced under a previous RMA. I boldly refused to pay it and I'm waiting for a response, so that's where my situation is at now. I'm not happy about this one bit!

Hi, if you want your keyboard in static color just install gigabyte fusion from the official site:

    http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Driver/nb-driver-win10-64bit-gigabytefusion.zip

I upgraded my ram with a SK Hynix 16GB DDR4-2400MHz P/N HMA82GS6AFR8N and works perfectly.
    Buy it on ebay.

    Regards

What I mean is a static color with reactive colors whenever I hit a button on the keyboard.

Thank you for the information on the RAM. Much appreciated.

Used to own a 15" rMBP with TB 2017 and recently switched to Gigabyte Aero 15WV8 144Mhz version - one of the best decision in my life as a tech consultant, content creator, and casual gamer. Still have my iPhone and iPad tho, so yeah, there's that.

Anyway, I thought I'd coin something in about my experience upgrading the RAM to 32GB after trolling on this thread for a while. I got myself a Corsair CMSX16GX4M1A2666C18 (one piece of 16GB 2666Mhz). I can vouch that it works but definitely NOT right off the bat. Here's an outline of what I experienced:

    1. Installed the new stick with the existing v-color RAM - no POST
    2. Installed new stick on the slot near the CPU - boot ok
    3. Installed new stick on the slot near the batt - no POST
    4. Did power drain (unplugged the battery + press and hold the power button for 10secs + reconnect battery) and try 3 again - boot ok
    5. Installed v-color RAM on the slot near CPU + corsair near the batt - no POST
    6. Switched position - no POST
    7. Tried them one at a time - boot ok
    8. Tried one RAM at a time while doing BIOS reset to defaults - boot ok
    9. Tried 2x RAMS at the same time after BIOS reset to defaults - no POST

I have no spare RAM to try what worked for the other guy here, so hope was almost gone. But in the end it still worked, and here's I think what did it for my case:

    11. Did power drain again + turned on the machine with 2x RAMs + pressed the power button while it's already on every two seconds = BOOT

I noticed that HDD light doesn't blink when there's no POST, and I thought of trying to tap the power button while it's already on to probably trigger sleep, shutdown, or whatever that usually do something with the HDD.

Hope this helps someone with this great machine.

This is really bad: I do need a dual boot with a fully working Linux for my job.
For the previous model, there used to be a repo with all the drivers needed for Linux:
    https://bitbucket.org/cleemesser/aero15x-laptop-tricks-cuda
Do you know if there exists something similar also for the v8?

Maybe I should try this method since I have the same problem with the RAM that I brought.

@g85222456 Why do we need to go through this much work when one RAM will work on one slot but not the other or together?

Just to check and clarify, you need something like gcc access to CUDA and the linux subsystem for windows and ssh to another distributed system won't service your need? I ended up finally using a hodgepodge of things that work reasonably well for my case and finally got rid of the second partition on my last system. At one point I researched gcc compiled code and access to the nVidia chip, but it's been awhile and I forget what was available.

I don't think I've really got what you mean, but my idea was to have a dual boot with one Linux distro where I can install Tensor Flow and pytorch to do some ML.
Is there anyone who has linux installed on his Aero 15x?

Yeah! It seems like a great machine but with all the instability issues, bugs, and lack of respectable customer service, I won't be looking at Gigabyte for future purchases.

If you're curious about my situation, I had another exchange with the Gigabyte customer service rep. (And please don't get me wrong, I'm not here to complain, I'm just here to share my awful experience with the all too common task of RMA'ing this particular model). They informed me I can refuse the replacement keyboard, but I have to still pay the $90 labor fee or they won't send my laptop back to me. They are claiming the new keyboard that they just replaced has physical damage, and the photo below is their "evidence".
I say that it's a manufacturing defect and I asked them to explain how the rubber membrane could possibly be physically damaged underneath a perfectly fine keycap on a brand new keyboard that they JUST replaced. I also told them to keep the damned thing and send me a check for the $1900 I paid for this thing when it launched.

I've always been a Windows/Linux guy but I am about to give the Macbook Pro a try at this rate... Yes, I'll be that guy running Windows & Linux VMs on a Mac, but at least I'll have decent customer service should I ever need it!

    Yes!!
But this basically means that I can't trust any linux distro installed on this machine?
