In the Smart Manager, if you select:
Power Saver: up to ~900MHz. I think
    Balanced: up to 2.2GHz
High Performance: Stay at 3.9 to 4.1 unless throttling

    Hi All

If you wanna the best performance just set the power scheme to Gaming or Customize with 100% Fan speed under Auto Maximum or Fixed Mode

Anyone install a dual boot Windows 7 on their Aero 15 v7 (or single boot windows 7)? I'm considering to get some space on my second SSD for windows 7, and am kind of confused on which drivers to install in what order.

    Thanks.

Probably for older software or software that dont support win10 yet

I dont know why some companies just make their software available to win10 yet. It been out for almost 3 years

Some of the programs/games I use have some compatibility issues ever since windows 8.1
I've started using them again, so decided to install Windows 7 separately.

I did get it up and running on a 60gb partition, but now I don't have enough space left and can't use free space on the partition before because it's on the left haha
I don't want to reinstall because I used my last activation key and don't know if it'll work again if I delete this partition and create another with more space

    @g85222456,

Feature request: A way to dim the RGB key lighting on custom profiles. I can set the RGB color I want, but it's absolutely blinding me in dimmer rooms. I can select static and one of the default colors and have a dimming slider, but not with this.

You can switch between dim, bright and off by using the "fn" + "space" key. Is it still too bright for you?

Hah, thanks. I totally forgot about that.

It does help, but medium ("bright") is still a bit much. I can live with it for now though. The feature request still stands.

So it looks like there are reports with the new Razerblade 15 also having IPS backlight bleed as well with the LGD05C0, IPS, Full-HD

That doesn't apply to the custom profiles is the problem. Wave is a fine and fun animation, but it is too much for daily use. I've taken to matching the key colors to my desktop background and would like to be able to use a somewhat dimmer version of, say, cyan. Or use my custom lighting profile that matches the Horizon keycap color scheme:

It's all aesthetic to be sure, but I'd enjoy the extra usability.

I misunderstood what you meant by custom profile (I just made a new profile with waves, but didn't set it to Custom)

    Hey guys,

Just ordered the 15x v8 (1070) should be coming tomorrow. I still don't know if it'll be my final choice but I'd like to give the laptop its best chance. Is there any "to do list" of things to do when setting up this laptop?

What I got so far is that I need to:

    - clean install windows
    - install precision touchpad drivers
    - undervolt the CPU

Anything else? Anything I must NOT do?

    Thanks!

To get the calibrated .icc profile, you need to install the Smart Update and through Smart Manager you will have more fan policy also the capability of switching among color profiles

I recall one of the guides on this site suggesting you actually save your icc profile before reinstalling windows as it is custom. If you're hyper-sensitive to color changes, that will be worth backing up as I believe it was custom created for your particular display.

Really like it so far. Battery life on low load is pretty good, though maybe one hour short of what several reviewers are saying. You also regain some of that weight savings by carrying around the larger power brick. It's not a massive problem for me and I can get away with just the laptop for awhile if it is fully charged.

let me briefly explain how we build up the so-called AVL (Approval List) of the RAM. In R/D phase like EVT or DVT, our engineer will test several RAM module from different vendor such as Apacer/Transcend/Kingston/...... and if there's no issue we will put these module into the AVL and our procurement team will place the order of module in the AVL. Basically we will try to cover all the module available in the market but in truth it's impossible to cover them all. So my suggestion is that to ensure the best compatibility, you could go for our call center to check if the memory you gonna installed is certified as a part of AVL

About the precision touchpad, I got to say I am not really sure about if the typical touchpad could turn out to precision one with just driver update......I will check with our RD if it's true. But the things I can confirm is that to build a real precision touchpad, both touchpad and the driver need to be certified and that's the thing we will make it happen on the next-gen AERO family

yes we strongly suggest you guys to make a backup of the default OS IMG if you wanna do the clean-install of OS. And while the time we design factory calibrated solution, we realized that you guys may do so.......so we design another mechanism to get calibrated profile (only belongs to your AERO) back even after clean install of the OS - Just install the Smart Update and Smart Manager

I can confirm that the Windows Precision Touchpad drivers below work with my Aero 15W.

    https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/ds120858
(EDIT: Changed link, had pasted the wrong one first time around)

Credit for the idea goes to Dave2D, though the link on the YouTube page doesn't go to the right driver anymore.

It makes the touchpad more functional (gestures you never knew you'd miss until they aren't there) and provides slightly better control as well.

I would be VERY happy to have Gigabyte formally support this, as Windows insists on updating the driver despite my best efforts to prevent it from doing so.

Any chance you know whether XMP profiles will ever we supported? I bought some 3200mhz ripjaws and they are running at loose timings and 2400mhz given it only seems to support jedec profiles.

The US resellers were initially selling orders with higher spec ram and that's why I bought faster ram.

Two issues - maybe someone's got them too and figured something out? Aero 15 (1060).

    1. SmartManager's custom fan control setting seems to stop working when the laptop goes back from sleep. Basically I close the lid, go away, go back to the laptop, open the lid. The fan then never switches off (even though it's set to 0% at low temperatures) and in games it doesn't follow the set curve, instead it seems to be following "Normal" or whatever default setting it's got. Reboot and the problem goes away - the fan switches off when it can/should, in games it also behaves as set in the custom fan control. It's not a huge deal, but it's really annoying - sometimes I just forget to reboot before launching a game, then I notice the problem, need to quit the game, reboot... You get the idea. It just doesn't seem right that the settings would get messed up between different states of the device. Sometimes opening the custom fan control and changing one curve point back & forth (so that "Apply" actually has a change to apply) helps, but it's inconsistent.

    2. 2-3 months ago, possibly after the big April W10 update, the weirdest thing started happening: connecting a paired bluetooth device (headphones, to be specific) causes colours on both the internal display and an external monitor to change. I'm not even sure what it's changing to, but tbh I don't really care - it really REALLY shouldn't be doing that. :/ I don't even know where to start with trying to fix this.

    Any ideas? :)

    1. Maybe try to update the Smart Manager to the latest version through Driver Update or our web portal
    2. Similar way as above, try to update the BT driver

Gigabyte Aero 15x vs MSI GS65 - Gaming Laptop Comparison
    Jarrod'sTech
    Published on Jun 27, 2018
Which laptop should you buy? The Gigabyte Aero 15x or MSI GS65 Stealth Thin? Both are high powered thin gaming laptops with 144Hz displays, thin bezels, large batteries, good graphics, and 6 core Intel i7-8750H CPUs, this comparison will cover the good and bad parts of both laptops to help you decide which one you should buy.

Check out my full review for each of these laptops if you want more information:

    Thanks for your response!

Ad 1. Smart Manager is the latest version (7.0.5). In fact I've had this issue since the beginning (starting November 2017). It's not a super glaringly obvious bug, so maybe you guys have never fixed it? Could you please escalate this to the bug checking/fixing people?

Ad 2. I've tried both the latest Windows driver (newer version than the latest in Smart Update) and the latest Smart Update one. No difference. Also: while connecting the headphones, there's a wild flicker of the colour palette for 1-2 seconds. It's really weird that bluetooth would influence the screen/graphics at all. I don't know if it's the driver for bluetooth, the iGPU or something else in Windows, but it definitely started happening around April 2018, never had this issue before.

Lisa Gade mentions in this video that the best Nvidia and Intel drivers were the ones out of the box, as newer ones are buggy with the latest Windows 10 Updates.

You might check out the very end of the video, starting at 18:50 for the details she gives on drivers, and watch the rest of the video review for any other 15x tidbits.

Hi guys. I have a question about my Aero 15 with i7-7700 - GTX 1060. So I just noticed that there is a buzzing sound on the left side of the laptop. I think it is coming from the fan, when I set the fan to the highest the sound goes away, also if i put the fan adjustment on the silent mode it also goes away. But when I leave it in the normal mode, there is a slight buzzing that is verry annoying. Does anyone know what this is?

    Thanks for all your hepl!!!

I had a similar issue, what I did was open up the back panel and tap a little at the fan itself, spun it manually and heard for any noise, then closed it back up.

Hi guys just received the laptop, still stetting everything right but I notice that it does come with the LG screen, not the AO one.

Here is the HWinfo proof. Also my .icc file has LGD05C0 in the name

    upload_2018-6-27_20-26-10.png

As you can see I did get the V color ram and not the ripjaws though.

Now the thing is I'm from France. So maybe it's a regional thing.

hello there - got my Aero 15x 1070 about a month or so ago, and have been following this thread.
Wanted to share some of my experiences with the group, in case they are valuable to anyone.

I am a traveling business consultant, and have the ability to use my own computer. I was looking for something light weight, with good battery life (for those times you have a long worksession in a conference room, etc.) that I could also game with. While there are many good gaming laptops out there these days, the Aero 15x met my personal requirements - if someone else likes something else that works for them, that is cool - this one works for me. :)

Now, on to a few things .....

1 - Memory; Honestly, I don't think I needed this, but oh well...
I bought a mircon 16gb stick, and was lucky that it works fine. Have 32gb, and very happy with it.

    Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Single DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin - BLS16G4S26BFSD

2 - Second SSD: I wanted a second SSD, as the 500gb model I wanted to keep dedicated to OS etc.
I bought a Samsung 960 EVO Series - 1TB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD, it works fine and very happy with it.
Putting it was a slight challenge, due to the oddball screws in the bottom of the case. (had to run to home depot to get a small star head driver set).

3 - external mini-display port to vga adapter. This is useful when I travel, as most of the external monitors I run into are still vga.

    4 - External Power Supply;
As I travel with my computer for business, I did not want to have to unpack my power supply all the time, and wanted one perm at my home office.
(also helps make sure you don't forget it at home...).

I found this one at amazon, and it works just fine.

I am NOT endorsing or work for any of those companies, I am just saying they worked for me, and I am happy with them.

Overall, I am thrilled with the computer- it does well in games (very important) and it does well in business use (good battery, and does not LOOK like a gaming machine with all the bling).

Oh, and the april windows update killed a lot of my playback of video files - not very happy about this.
(some work, some don't - very annoying). Worked before the update, failed afterwards.

The ram seems to be V-color for everyone except review units, the real interesting point is the screen: I've seen people report that they didn't get the LG screen but an AU Optronics. In my case I got the LG so I guess it's regional

Also, I got a fairly slim adapter with a USB port, and I read that they're discontinued so I suppose they aren't.

Did you get the 1060 one? Because the slim power adapter *was* 150W which is enough for the CPU/GPU combo

No 1070 version. The adapter is "slim" but not small by any means though so maybe I'm just confusing things. It does have a USB port though, I don't know if all of the adapters for this laptop do.

Hmmm, didn't know there were 2 different screens for this. Is one better than the other?
I'm in the US, ordered from HID, and mine seems to be the AU screen.

    Hey all,

My first post here but I was wondering if someone could help me out or at least know if other users are experiencing similar issues. I purchased the Gigabyte Aero 15x (1070 144hz) about two and half months ago. I keep getting a power state failure during various tasks (Gaming, Editing, Youtube and once while not running any programs at all) a blue screen pops up and displays Stop Code: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I have sent it back into CanadaComputers the place where I purchased it and they said they had problems recreating the problem as sometimes it happens twice in one day and sometimes it wont happen for almost a week. They sent it back said everything should be fine and one day later while streaming a YouTube video it blue screened once again with the same message. I have been in contact with Gigabyte through support tickets but I really don't want to send it in to them as I know it will take some time to get back and I use my laptop for both School and Work. At this point it feels like that is my only option. It is increasingly frustrating to save up for a $3000CAD laptop for it not work. Before anyone asks my drivers are up to date and I am continuously troubleshooting this problem with no clear solution.

Please let me know if you have the same problem or can let me know a possible fix. I really want to love this laptop as it preforms amazing when it's actually working. Thanks and have a great day!
