I don't do PMs bro. I can only start PM with members and not vice versa.

Also, I only use PMs to get your TeamViewer ID/Pass to login to your machine and tweak it. I don't do any personal conversations or one on one chats.

If you want me to tweak you, just tag me tomorrow a bit earlier and I'll PM you so we can arrange this as it's 1:30 am here in Dubai now.

Hi I just got my Aero 15x v8 I got a couple of questions.

    1) Is there a way to use the fn keys (Max fan, wifi, brightness, blank screen, touchpad lock, airplane mode) without install smart manager? The keyboard light, sleep and volume work.
    2) Is there a way, with smart manager installed, not to use the cpu profile? Once installed, in high performance, the cpu stays around 39-41x until thermal, does not drop to 8x when idling.
    3) Does the power adapter come with a USB port? I thought I saw one with usb port on a review.
    4) After fresh install, I cannot control brightness via the power option. What can I do?
    5) The screen does not fully turn off after 10 minutes. It just turn black.

    v8 changes compared to v7
1 - 'customize' in smart manager fan profiles allows you to go down to 30% instead of the 35% on v7. maybe an ec change. or maybe its non-x that gets limited to 35% and x that gets 30%? on purpose? not sure.
2 - 8750h definitely draws more power than 7700hq, I'm recording 4-5W idle package vs 2-3W. if you use throttlestop to set an EDP preference and do the same workload then they actually draw the same power which is nice. EDP seems like a TDP preference more than anything.
3 - the panel on v8 is absurd, getting 155hz out of it. frameskips if you try refresh rate that has too low pixclk. but there's a very high pixclk ceiling to work with. tunable for sure, though some serious brightness flickering issues depending on settings & what colors are onscreen. my settings, whipped up in like 5mins:
    confirmed doesn't frameskip.

my sample (15x v8) has a disappointing keyboard, mild chattering (fml) and pressing the edge of keys gets ignored like @ Jeehong was complaining about. You can definitely trigger this with all keys if you try hard enough so seems like gigabyte tried to make some hw changes to the keyboard and ended up ****ing it even more. not sure what to say. normal typing does not really have this problem with ignored inputs, but I didn't notice this sensitivity issue at all on either of the 15v7s I tried so it is new. currently using keyboard fw 3.0.8 but it shipped with 3.0.7.

my sample also came with toshiba xg3 (rd400) and vcolor 16gb stick. timings aren't as good as ripjaws. date stamped on the chassis is jan 2018.

4 - the audio drivers on v8 are absolute ****. the dolby atmos app is a uwp cancer that is a straight downgrade of the dolby digital app on v7. it is impossible to turn off the 'surround' effect and use the EQ at the same time. Plus the EQ in atmos sucks. Don't bother installing, just use equalizer apo which is superior to the dolby digital app on v7 even. So w/ some adjustment bass is even stronger than before. Pardon my language, it's degenerating the more i post on this forum.

5 - the 1070 max-q on my unit seems pretty good. samsung gddr5 like on the 2 aero15w v7s. I tested several hours at 800mV and only made it crash at 1860 core & ~2478 mem (+950 in afterburner). I'm fairly certain 1800 core & ~2400 memory (+800) at 800mV core will be stable, even a little bit conservative. In comparison the 1060 in one of the 15w-v7s i tested couldn't do +760 on memory in same tests and I don't remember being too impressed with core clocks either.

Didn't run into any power limits testing with 3d game drawing 50W but gpu core was only pegged about 50%. Can confirm the power limit is 90W (87W) as someone mentioned earlier. Mining easily downclocks to ~1100 core at 800mV with some algos because hitting the power limit, so its possible games could also throttle even at 800mV. will know more after more testing. my intent is to only run the gpu at 625mV with lowest possible fans. Would go even lower if the driver let me.

Reading about all of these ongoing keyboard issues is a major dissapointment, given how important a keyboard is to the quality and use of a laptop. I also wish that they did not cram in a numberpad, as I prefer a more centered keyboard.

Has anyone benched the current Aero 15 1060 vs current Aero 15 1070 Max-Q? From videos on YouTube comparing the two laptop gpus, I am getting the impression that the upgrade from the 1060 to the 1070 Max-Q is not a massive step-up, especially given the large price gap between the two Aero variants.

    Whatsup Phoenix,
I Didnt get a PM, updated my signature.

I have done these changes on my system so far.

    Throttle Stop
    CPU -0.150mv
    CPU cache -0.050mv
    Analog IO voltage -0.050mv
    Intel GPU -0.100mv

    MSI afterburner

    https://imgur.com/A51dAtb

    -uninstalled nvidia geforce experience
    -instaled RGB fusion app
    -disabled nvidia telemetry

Also was wondering what you think of this article

    https://www.comsol.com/blogs/havent-cpu-clock-speeds-increased-last-years/

I seem to have gotten way better thermals by using speedshift in throttle stop

(temps don't go above 83c on tomb raider high settings) with ambient temp of 26c, but I am not sure why is speedshift set to only be turned on when not on power source? My gpu temps usually under 78 on that game, and I am noticing when the cpu temps go up the gpu follows even with max fans and high performance power mode setting.

just wanted to say this notebook is a hit or miss.
at first everything went well for me until i start gaming, which freezes me at green screen of death 10 minutes into the game. had to return it because no drivers or fresh install fixes it (possibly faulty GPU)

It's only for HIDevolution Gaming Team members, you can do a lot of them yourself by following these threads:

NBR Windows 10 Clean Installation Guide
Windows 10 Tweaks and Fixes (Index post #1)
O&O ShutUp10 - Do not use Windows 10 without it!
    Macrium Reflect Installation/Usage Guide

And here are my tweaks list just FYI. a Phoenix Tweaking session takes no less than 2 hours which is why I can't do this for everyone but the guides should get you started

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
10- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
11- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
12- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
13- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
    14- Updating all drivers
15- Creating a system restoration image using Macrium Reflect

guys, let me ask a probably simple question, but one I don't find a clear answer to...

The Aero 15x V8 Intel 8750 cpu stock speed get, w/o turbo boost, to 2.2GHz... w/Turbo Boost it can get up to 4.1GHz. so, is there a way to limit the turbo boost only to reach say 3.7GHz at maximum clock? I can't seem to find a way to limit this... (and yes, I've googled and read and I think this can't be done, but I just want to double check with you knowledgeable people...)

    Thanks

After Flashing the BIOS with Smart Update, my GPU now displays as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter in Device manager.

    I have tried:

Manually reinstalling the driver - Device not detected

Flashing the BIOS with update downloaded from their website - not supported

Resetting the laptop - Gets an error and return to previous version.

I'm all out of ideas and rather disappointed I have only had the laptop for a week. Anyone have any ideas?

BIOS doesn't seem to allow changing of ram timings..
The RAM Part number is: BLS8G4S26BFSDK

Which is this one here: www.crucial.com/usa/en/bls8g4s26bfsdk

So it is rated at 2666. There is an XMP profile from viewing CPU ID which would allow it to however there doesn't seem to be the option to from what I can see in the BIOS.

    See this reddit discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/co...a_second_16g_stick/?utm_source=reddit-android

It seems that the ram has to be 2666 capable via Jedec profile, not XMP profile

Sucks that I am also going on vacation in 10 days :( I knew there would be some problem coming up with this laptop! haha.

I don't think this can be achieved in Throttlestop.. I think in TS you can enable/disable Turbo Boost, but not regulate what the upper limit frequency (multiplier) of Turbo Boost is... and if it were the case, I can't seem to make it work ... I'm not sure what the "Set Multiplier" option is, as its not affecting anything I do...

Is there any way to stop allowing smart manager to peg the CPU frequency at a certain number according to the selected profile? The only workaround I see is to uninstall smart manager, but that's not really viable.

I think this was it! Thanks...! I kept Turbo enabled and set the maximum multiplier in FIVR to x34 (all cores) so I can have performance with less heat on the CPU. I have 3 profiles in Throttlestop: 1-Full Performance 2-Restricted Performance (x34 limiter) and 3-Battery/Internet use (turbo disabled)...

    hello owners,
I am new to this thread, I live outside the US but was planning to get the laptop with a friend to me who'd be coming to my place about end of may,
I wanted to ask the owners about where should I buy it from (which seller is reliable and speedy - excalibur/xoticpc/HiDevolution?)
And what are the necessary upgrades that I should get done or should I do?

Kinda off topic I guess, but it's important to note that the your numbers match what I would expect for V but you've specified mV... 150 mV is 0.15 V, and so on. I'm sure no one was confused by this, just thought it could use some clarity since the two units differ by a factor of 1000.

First time doing repasting. Is there something I should know before doing the job? I got the thermal grizzly krynonaut, and 0.5mm thick thermal pads (for whatever that needs it, and I will definitely be needing it when I install a new ssd.).
Do I need to use anti static wrist band? I didn't get one. But I can try to keep as discharged as possible.
Do I need to disconnect the battery when repasting?
Will I void the warranty if I open the back plate? And I hope I will not brick this laptop.
And what should I know before I do it?

    Thank you!

Personally i would have to recommend HIDevolution mainly because their customer service is amazing. I'm a first time customer of theirs with my Aero and so far I've been nothing but impressed with the estimated turn around time from the start to finish, how they treat you when you call or email, down to the follow ups since I've received my machine they are truly fantastic. They also offer a global warranty i do believe so that's something i would check out since you are outside the US.

thanks for the reply @Cryptic Joker ,
I was considering HiD. I just wanted to know the details about the HiD approved nvme drive in your system, and also how does it perform?
Basically, should i opt for a samsung evo 960 ssd 1 gb or go with HiD approved and save a considerable amount of money?

I can't speak about other resellers but I can about HID. As an occasional impulsive and impatient person (my GF read this and laughed), I can't rave enough about HID. I've been a customer since late 2014 and I've been buying from them ever since. Their customer service, salesman (Ted & Donald) and techs (Adam & Juan) are top notch, hence the reason why I've always come back when I've an itch for an upgrade.

    So true

I have a static wrist band (have yet to use it) and anti-static mat since it never hurts to be on the safe side. I highly recommend you unplug the battery cable while doing internal upgrade. If you're in the US, it's illegal to void the warranty when upgrading parts and whatnot. Read, watch videos regarding changing the thermal paste, take it slow and use electric tape when needed.

Early shipments may have gone out with the wrong memory but, starting with May 1st shipments, they have the correct memory. We sincerely apologize for this. Sometimes with new models there are unique quirks that need to be worked out.

Anyone who finds they have DDR4/2666MHz memory performing at DDR4/2400MHz, please contact [email protected] and they will take care of you.

Does anyone has the v8 running 2x16GB 2400MHz RAM?

The original stick in either slot works fine.
Both 2400 stick only works in single channel the slot near the CPU/GPU.
Both 2400 sticks in both slot doesnt work.
One 2400 + the original in both slot doesnt work.

Is it the RAM problem or the computer problem?
