I just got my 15x yesterday and I have a similar looking display. I did notice that if you turn up the brightness to max before you restart or shutdown it goes away.

Also I've seen many examples saying that this is just how all the IPS monitors are and its really only "ips glow". Unless anyone here as a 15x with minimal glow?

Have you tried to see if the settings are correct for DC & AC are matching? smart manager > Power Mode> Corner arrow . New to all of this maybe it might be that. I had that issue too and overnight the charge was at 97% still, and I noticed the settings were off in smart manager. Now im at 100% plugged in.

After some research, it looks like I may need to enable XMP int he BIOS, however, i do not see this option when I boot into the BIOS. Can anyone with the new 15x confirm whether XMP is an option in the BIOS? I've tried F2 and windows 10 boot into BIOS and nothing.

Dont quote me on this, but I have read somewhere if we put an XMP ram then it should automatically run at that XMP specification, because AFAIK there is no XMP option in the BIOS

The ignoring of input only happened in the new Firmware update 3.0.8, so i believe by trying to fix the chattering issue they messed a bit up. This didn't happen with 3.0.7, but the chattering was pretty bad. So it looks like my chatter fix app worked better than their firmware chatter fix.

I think the XMP capabilities of a stick are auto-detected, but they are not auto-enabled. The enabling must be done in the BIOS. That's my interpretation of this article: https://www.pcgamer.com/what-are-xmp-profiles-and-how-do-i-use-them/

What model number did you get? I'd like to add a second 16 GB DIMM to my Aero 15 as well. Currently eyeballing two models, leaning toward kingston.

I have returned my Aero 15x v8(1070) and gotton refund for horrible keyboard(ignored inputs depending on where you push on a key, specially on function keys).

I think the keyboard problem definitely comes from faulty hardware design, which should exist all across the products.

(BTW, this was posted January 3rd so it should be not related to the new firmware)

This is from other user who experienced the same problem. Is there anyone who have experience above problem?

I installed yesterday the new Windows 10 April Update with the latest nVidia and Intel drivers and unfortunately the HDR setting is still greyed out in the Windows display settings.
I'm wondering if it's even possible to get HDR on any Optimus laptop. It looks like even when using the nVidia card, the HDMI signal is passing through the Intel controller which is not HDR compatible...

Hi All, just got my new Aero 15X v8 and I noticed something weird regarding the Escape key at the top left. I can only push it down on the right side, as if something is blocking on the left side from underneath. It is still working though. The effect is also slightly noticable with the °^ key below. Does anybody else have this problem?

Did you say that you can only push down the right side of ESC key "physically" or if you push down the left side of ESC key, the input is "ignored"?

I believe the max memory frequency the aero 15 can take is 2400MHz.
Yours is 2666MHz, and if this doesn't work, I don't think the 2933MHz will work either.

EDIT: Actually, disregard my comment. It looks like max IS 2666MHz.
Try reseating the memory, if it still doesn't work, then maybe the memory is DOA.

I can only push down the right side of the ESC key physically, so I am getting kind of a slope from left to right. Tried to have a look at the situation when I added a second memory stick and SSD, but I could not get too far without disassembling more...

Mine is the newest model, it has a really hot palm rest when gaming. I haven't had this problem before. Only encountered it since yesterday. I don't know why this is happening. Also, there are new video card drivers from official sites. The smartupdate shows two old drivers, which one should I use?

did you repaste the CPU / GPU? Have you tried raising the laptop a bit and adding cool air on the bottom to get better air flow or try a laptop cooler?

Ha! I tried raising the laptop, it worked! Benchmarked it for 30 mins. Palm rest was comfortably warm. About repasting, it would be really difficult right?

I have found that my Aero 15 benefits greatly from being raised on two plastic bottlecaps or the like. Considering getting a laptop cooler for it as the summer months arrive.

It can be difficult if you've never done it before. Where did you buy your laptop at? I would go on youtube and search for cpu / gpu repasting to get an idea and see if its for you.

Here are the two combos I use at my GF's place with my Aorus x5v7. I use both in conjunction with each other: 1st one on bottom to provide air flow & the cooler on top of 1. Of course, you can use the laptop cooler only if you want but i like the cooling fan tower to provide air flow for the laptop cooler or you can use a fan instead of the cooling fan tower. Many ways to do it and up to your imagination.

    https://smile.amazon.com/Cooler-Mas...TF8&qid=1525312294&sr=8-1&keywords=notepal+u3

Best part of the cooler is it has 3 fans you can position under the laptop bottom intake to get direct air into it.

    Thanks for the tips, @RMXO.

I'm wondering if it's better to get a cooling pad where the fans perfectly align with the Aero 15's fans. The one you linked seems it would be blowing around the middle center of the Aero 15's base, but the intake fans for the Aero 15 are in the two 'upper' corners.

    What do you think?

That cooling tower fan definitely looks interesting. Is it noisy at all?

Hello, could you guys tell me the dc power adapter's connector type please? I haven't been able to find any info about it. I'm gonna need an extra adapter if i choose this one over the msi.

Edit: Ok got it. It's a 5.5 x 2.5 mm connector type adapter with 19.5v - 10.5a 215 watts specs. No idea where i can get this...

Is it for 15 or 15x? Not sure about v8, but v7 Aeros had different adapters. I have a 15x v7 and it comes with a brick-sized adapter that's bigger than 15's and doesn't come with a usb port. Doesn't show wattage though.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B4Q2F94/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

the adapter end doesn't fit as snuggly as the original one that came with the notebook, but it works well...

I'm really interested in the Aero 15x V8. I no longer have a gaming PC and will be on the move for the next couple of years, so a gaming laptop is necessary... However, this thread has me worried about the issues. Should I buy this machine or not? I don't really like the look of the MSI, and the 1050ti of the new XPS15 is kind of underwhelming...

Also, I'd be buying through HIDEvolution since I need it ASAP. Anyone have experience with them? Any issues? I'm not having them repaste, as I'd rather do it myself. A little concerned about the warranty, since I'm ordering it in the US but am currently living in the UK. Will the Gigabyte global warranty cover me here, or will I need to liaise with HIDEvolution for any issues I have?

Yes, I used the same HDMI cable as I may use for my PS4 Pro or Oppo UDP-203.

It would be great if someone else could test it too and confirm my result!

Here's one that me and a few other people are using. It's not a cooler, it's just a stand. But it lowered my temps about 9° C https://smile.amazon.com/Steklo-Aluminium-Adjustable-Portable-Universal/dp/B00VIZ60QY/

Are we really supposed to buy a laptop cooler or a stand when we buy a new gaming PC ? (especially this new aero 15X V8... hope it will be better with the 15W V8)
Aren't they supposed to be cooled enough by themself ?

I have the Aero 15w (7700hq/GTX1060) and it cools itself fine just on a desk (no throttling and can even OC the GPU). The reason I stand it up on two bottlecaps is just to lower temps more. I don't want my CPU touching 90c in prolonged BF1 matches and raising it helps that.

I am interested in getting a cooler primarily because if I can lower the temps another few degrees, then I can protect the longevity of my machine.

For starters, battery life is adversely affected by heat. Another thing is that the fans have to spin less fast, which means I wear them out less quickly.

Since at work my laptop spends all day on the desk anyway, I may as well put it on a cooler.

    Just my 2c.

The Notepal U3 allows you to align to the Aero 15 fans and verified before returning mine.

The tower is noisy at max speed but you can adjust the speed to lower the noise. I game with headphones on so the noise doesn't bother me at max settings.

You don't have to but it helps reduce heat and temp. There are reviews stating the laptop throttles. I didn't experience any throttling with mine, I got LM from HID and used the coolers I've listed.

Awesome! Let me know if you ever need help tweaking your laptop. These are the Phoenix Tweaks, only for HIDevolution Gamin Team:

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
10- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
11- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
12- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
13- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
    14- Updating all drivers
15- Creating a system restoration image using Macrium Reflect

Thanks Phoenix, I'll do that when I'm back home this weekend and modify my laptop. On another note do you have any idea if the temps I'm experiencing are normal with the repaste etc; for this model?I do understand this model is meant to run hotter than the previous version...

I actually opted for waiting the next generation of GPU's at this point and hold on to my AW 17 R4. Hopefully, there will be more bezelless machines with gtx 1170 / 2070 Max-Q on them (Imagine a GTX 2070 MAX-Q stronger than a full spec 1070).

Trying to decide between an Aero 15x and a MSI GS65 is kinda awkard in 2018. I think laptop manufacturers got the smell of "Dell XPS Pie" share of the market and i think gamers who are now past 25-30 of age (kidults as they call it :) got really tired of childish looking ugly laptops (which i also own one) without any sign of class. Thats why they are leaning towards these XPS-like gaming kidult machines, and i am quite sure that we are going to see more of them soon. Design choice of MSI GS65 is a really strong proof of this IMO. And since the max-q design is relatively new, i am hoping that other manufacturers are taking their time to create slim & thin & light laptops while taking advantage of the max-q design.

I hope we also see a 17.3'' machine in a 15.6'' chassis as well in the near future. One can only hope.
