Euhm... less weight? I see its 3,4kg... thats 1,4kg more then the GS60, and I think the adapter will also be more heavy then the GS60...
I'm also afraid that it is thicker then 27mm what is kinda the max that I want..dunno why though... but 27mm feels like a nice number in my thoughts... >.<

Then the P651SG should work in your favor. Smaller, lighter, and should in theory have a lot less issues besides BIOS (which Prema is working on).

I have a special backpack that holds large 15.6 inch laptops well. P150EM is larger, but slightly lighter than P751ZM. I can carry the bag around with ease (I am no slouch). A power brick of 330W is also nothing with the combined weight as I used to carry a friend's military bag as training.

If weight is issue, but you dont want the many negatives, Clevo P651SG should do you no wrong.

In theory, P35x could be improved upon a lot more. Possibly better and quieter fans, better heatsinks, ect. Though that would take too much time for me to do improvements within this 14-day window to test for satisfaction out of the box. Its like a Clevo W230ST in that it comes with everything good, but some slight quirks keep coming back to haunt me.

I would prefer the P35X over the GS60 for performance.

I would prefer GS60 only for aesthetics. If possible, GS70 would be better as I hear less issues on that one.

Should probably wait until P650SE/P650SG comes out before finalizing decision as they will all be competing...

@All current owners and potential owners: I tested Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition on high/max. Playable on 1080p and 3K at +66 and +38FPS for each game. I couldnt run recording tools at work... and I'm delivering the machine right after, so that's the news I can give you for now. Temperatures were quite high as always (without turboboost, 84C)

Was inquisition on full settings? (without the overkill ones ) My current laptop with a lowly Radeon HD 7470m cant run it on low :( BTW, everything looks like plastic in the cuts scenes (that appeared to go a 40 fps (cutscenes!!)), does it still look really bad at ultra settings, or was it just low?

Full settings on native 3K and also 1080P. FPS during cutscenes is a lot higher.

Alrighty, I did an overclock of +135/+550 (don't have much time now to push it further) and got 8240 in 3DMark: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4860HQ Processor,GIGABYTE P35V3
I ran this after my laptop had been switched on for about 12 hours, so maybe a fresh Windows boot will bump it up a bit more. Do note that my CPU is forced at 2.6Ghz using XTU because I hate power limit throtteling (causes microstutter) so that explains my low score compared to yours.
    Graphs:

    Again TMPIN0 = GTX980M

Fan speed profile is still set to Auto - Low. If it needs more cooling power, it will ramp up those fans anyway. It's just when it's at idle, it doesn't ramp them up so quickly.

If it needs more cooling power, it will ramp up those fans anyway. It's just when it's at idle, it doesn't ramp them up so quickly.

Do note that my screen has quite some backlight bleeding on totally black images, which is unacceptable imho for a laptop in this price range.
Fan noise is OK, altough the highest setting is quite loud, but not high pitched which makes it bearable.

Looks good, all temperatures in check, a well balanced score in 3DMark with of course a kind of low CPU score because you've limited the Mhz on the CPU for the reasons you mentioned (I would have done the same with that laptop). I don't think your CPU at 2.6GHz will hold you back in gaming, I have mine at 2.6Ghz (yours will be slightly faster due to architectural improvements) and I'm not limited in games. Yeah, good info, that looks pretty solid to me from your results.

Where did you read that? Notebookcheck also only got 8230 points in 3DMark FireStrike

Thanks for your comment :) That's nice to hear, I was afraid I messed up with the TIM replacement as well, but it looks I did just fine.
I used AS5 which has a break-in time of 200 hours. I will report back after 2 weeks with the same tests to see if the results are improved.
Tonight I will run another 3DMark bench with fans set to max speed and an +135/+575 overclock.

Yeah, looks like you did a good job with TIM (I use AS5 too), GPU performance is pretty amazing if you can hold a stable max boost with +135Mhz and those temps you're getting! What's the stable GPU boost clock at +135Mhz overclock, (is it the max boost value too)?

To sum up - the biggest issue with the laptop are the "Power State" BSODs some users are getting and its always graphics driver related...
Could it be because of the 4860HQ and the Iris Pro intel graphics? Maybe they haven't worked out all the kinks with optimus on this one? After all it is a brand new graphics card with a (relatively) new CPU that also has an integrated GPU. Currently no other manufacturer offers this combination of CPU and GPU- maybe Gigabyte wanted to be ahead of the game and it bit them in the but?

Heres hoping the CF2 with the 4710HQ wont have this issue...

What if I want to avoid the high temps and buy the p35x v3 CF4 ? it has the slightly lesser CPU (4100). Wouldn't that help too ?

So the original Samsung 850 Pro actually finally arrived. At the same address they originally said they couldn't deliver to - what?!

Anyways, as tempting as it was to keep it, they're obviously expecting me to return it so I asked the post office to return to sender. Don't want to pay for two!

I'm just hoping they never catch on that they refunded the original item but never charged me for the replacement :p

I'm a little disappointed with OC.UK since they wouldn't provide a shipping label outside of UK on a defective product but was kind enough to refund me 12.50 GBP. Gonna see if they can refund me my full $43 they charged me for shipping.

I have it until tomorrow when the courier comes to collect it. Really don't want to give it up. I think the two things I shall miss the most about it are the IPS panel, which is eye-meltingly gorgeous compared to TN and obviously, the 980M. It's going to be hard to go back to my P170SM - especially in terms of the display. I can now definitely add IPS displays to my growing list of 'once you go X you can't go back' items.

Just 4 weeks to go... 4 weeks and I can feel that childish glee of opening up a new shiny toy all over again.

As for today, it's gonna be spent playing as much Far Cry 4 as I can fit in. Overclocked too - got to make the most of the little time I have left with the 980M!

Cool, can you let me know how Far Cry 4 runs on it, in terms of settings & fps, I'm thinking of getting that game at some point and I'm wondering how it will perform on my lesser GPU (knowing that you'll get about double the frame rate potentially).

Can do. And also, once I've swapped back my 850 Pro into my Clevo P170SM tonight, so that the Gigabyte's ready for collection tomorrow (no idea yet what time they'll come to collect yet so it needs to be ready by the morning), I can try out the game on my 780M as well - to see how well it scales down from Maxwell to Kepler.

Yeah, plan to do that. As long as my refund goes smoothly I'm not going to make a big deal. I did ask for a full refund and I'll leave it at that. If they process my refund quickly so I can buy another then I'll be happy.

I tempted to finance at HIDEVOLUTION and pay it off once my refund clears but that's if I'm only impatient.

Though, I got myself in this mess because I was impatient last time so it's probably smart if I just wait it out.

I never bought laptops from these resellers during Black Friday so I'm not sure if I should wait until the end of the month to see if there is any deals or not.

I got my sample last night. I´m having difficulties with the cpu, can´t get it to run faster than 1600 MHz.
I tried Throttlestop but the multiplier is fixed at 16x at all times.
Looking at Hwinfo I can see it is able to go to 3.3 GHz at some point but running 3DMark or browsing while checking the speed, it´s always 1.6 GHz.
I can´t meassure the Power draw.

    Suggestions?

It´s a review sample, I can´t mess with Bios or voltage.
However I could set the multiplier to 35, 3DMark11 ran fine with speeds at 3.3+. Is there some way I can set Throttlestop to use that as max speed only? Now it´s always at full speed :p

Even Cakefish is returning his, wow what's going on? I wonder if they accept your return as it has that little dent you were talking about a few pages back... Here in my country, they already make a problem if you opened the box, let a lone make a miner scuff or dent!

Anyway, you guys are all returning it because of the driver issues, right?
I don't have any driver issues (knock on wood). The only problem I had was with Smart Manager V3, but that was caused due to my USB hub. Everything is now working like it should.

It's being collected tomorrow. I'm lucky that the mark is quite tiny, so hopefully whoever inspects the machine won't even notice it's there. It can easily be mistaken for a speck of dust from most angles.

I'm returning due to a faulty Intel AC 7260. That, and the fact that I'd rather have a laptop that feels a bit more durable and robust. This one feels quite delicate.

So to sum this up, every problem that has been had was because of bad software which can easily be fixed, except for that one broken 980m. In the end, this laptop wasn't the cause of any of those problems, as a broken 980m is luck of the draw, and software can be fixed. There isn't anything bad about the laptop itself, except Temps which are expected and can be easily cooled with an undervolt and a repast. Or was there some problem about the laptop itself that I missed?

I am still unable to update my NVidia drivers past the OEM ones on my latest reinstall of the OS. I tried the ones that just came out and after reboot I get a BSOD within a few mins just sitting at the desktop. I really wish I knew what drivers were conflicting or what the real issue is. I've tried various random "solutions" online that I've found but no change.

Tonight when I get home I may try doing some sort of complete (not thru the NVidia options) driver wipe and clean installing the new ones. If that doesn't work I will try uninstalling XTU, afterburner and try again. I may mess with my intel drivers (go back to older or go to latest on web) but I'm pretty sure I had this problem on previous installs with different intel drivers.

Lastly, I may try a clean windows install (ironically some folks told us to do that a few pages ago) but I really am trying to avoid it. I literally have no issues (plays FC4 great!) except this driver bug and I don't want to have to go through the install process yet another time. But alas, I will do it if all else fails, I am actually pretty certain it must be some weird way gigabyte has the OS setup or a particular combination of drivers they use. I may not even mess with the "smartmanager update" and just do them all manually.

Besides drivers issues, like LoneSyndal, I wasn't satisfied with it due to so much issues out of the box and to me its a bad sign. Glad I was able to get it early one compared to later but sucks nevertheless. If I paid way less then I would of been able to tolerate some of the issues but not for the price I paid. If I was going to re-sell or trade it after a year or two then I would of maybe asked for a replacement and give them a second chance but since I was aiming to use the laptop until the next architecture, everything must be 100% working out of the box.

Sorry to hear all of that. I might just be lucky or you guys might all be in bad luck. Altough I do agree everything should work out of the box, the failure rate is quite high in this topic. We had like 5 people who bought it and 3 of them are returning it?

Third BSOD in a row. It has entered a continuous loop of them now. This happened before. Rather than reinstall windows again (that would be pointless as I have to get it ready for return tomorrow anyway) I'll just start the process of moving everything back to the P170SM.

Hope my P651SG will be more reliable.

Cakefish, just remove the latest NVidia drivers, roll back to OEM ones, they work perfect and zero BSOD's.

I am keeping mine too, since I am sure it is a software issue, I will get it fixed. It's literally the only laptop that meets my needs, and its perfect except this one little (annoying) bug.

I really want this laptop for its price:thinness:weight: power ratio (I haven't found anything else this thin and light with a 980m 8gb for this price) and was wondering if I wait until mid December the drivers and or design will be altered and fixed to solve these issues? I'm assuming a lot of these problems are just from it being so new and untried with the hardware and drivers?

I had the old P150EM (7970M also a flawed laptop) and I'm not too worried about heat because anytime I'd be gaming or rendering I'd probably be using a laptop cooling pad/fan system underneath.

    Thanks

    4th BSOD and counting...

I need it to stay alive long enough to copy windows back over to the MSATA drives.

    Edit: 5th...

    Another edit: 6th...

Do you know why you are experiencing BSOD, as before you didn't seem to have this issue? Did you change the driver? Maybe try rolling back?

Yeah unfortunately there is simply nothing else on the market that compares to this model. Closest is the Clevo P650SG with 980M 4GB and reportedly about 1.15 inch thick.

In case you didn't see my post a min ago, just login and roll back the NVidia drivers from device manager real quick. Only takes a minute and I bet it will fix your issue. It will continue to BSOD forever if you don't...

Seemed to have worked. Already started moving everything over though. Goodbye 980M... for now :'(

To not get BSOD with newer drivers, start the PC without AC adapter. Once you load Windows and a few apps, feel free to plug it in and usd it. Should work then.

I tried staying on battery and it still BSOD'd on me last night. I few re-installs ago I was seemingly able to run on battery without BSOD but last night I found out that isn't always the case (at least not for me anyway).

Granted this was after I already had a couple BSOD's on AC and was simply troubleshooting the issue to see if it went away on battery, which it did not.

Hi Cakefish, apologies if this has been answered already, but is there still a big problem with fingerprints on the laptop metal surface, that it seems the v2 had?

    Cheers :)

If you have oily fingers then yes. That was the only time I saw fingerprints.
