XoticPC only charges CC when it is ready to ship and not just for pre-order. Obviously if you pay via cash that is a different beast.

Have ordered through them several times over the years.

This model is called P34G-CF1. Any ideas what CF2 will be if ever?

16 gigs of ram and probably another 128 msata drive. That would push it up to $1600 I think. They could also theoretically add (2) 256 msata drives to max out the drive capacity I guess with 16 gigs of ram. Which would probably push the cost up to around 2k.

There's no space for a second mSATA drive in the P34G, you're thinking of the P35K.

Just wanted to update you guys on this, according to the GNBFB page:

"Purchasing a customized version from XoticPC will not void your warranty. You may upgrade it as you like. Thanks for asking."

So finally, some SENSE. If you feel like you're going to need more space/ram/etc., get it from XoticPC. It won't be as cheap as perhaps doing it yourself, but it'll definitely work out cheaper than getting Gigabyte to do it for you just so your warranty remains intact.

Surprised more retailers don't have it up for preorder yet-- figured Newegg would have it by now.

That's really just about the P35K. The bit at the bottom is basically, "Oh yeah, they also have a slightly smaller gaming laptop called P34G."

Well... Sorry! ;)

I thought it´s interesting to see how it`s looking from the inside. I assume it´s almost the same in the p34g (besides the removable drive and the second SSD-Slot).

No need to apologize! It's certainly interesting to see. :p

Personally, I'd like to see some photos (and reviews maybe?) from the people here who already have their P34G.

If I get a rather large mSATA SSD, say 256GB, could I physically remove the 1TB HDD from the machine and then have better battery life and lighter weight?

You can remove the 1TB HDD and get 0.1 kg lighter

I'll be bumping the mSATA to a 256GB Crucial and popping a 512GB M4 in the main bay, take the 1TB HDD and put it in a small, NexStar CX enclosure.

Not that it bothers me personally, but changing out the drives in these does "technically" void the 2 year warranty. However there are "tricks" to get around that.

Just wanted people to be aware in case they do have an issue to make sure that you have covered your bases.

Could any owner measure the fan noise with some phone app? say Sound meter? (preferably with an S3 although I don't really now if it changes anything).
Also, if possible, take a picture of the distance so that we get an idea of how far the measure was taken.
It will be greatly appreciated.

In other news, just got an e-mail from Xotic stating that the unit is on "pre-order" and that the manufacturer has not given a release date as yet. Clock will continue to tick for another 2-3 weeks methinks.

From a quick glance at this thread, is it safe to assume that no one has had their hands on one of these laptops yet?

I am interested in knowing how the keyboard and touchpad fare. Historically, have Gigabyte keyboard/touchpads been good?

Thanks!

Source? All I can find is shipping has been delayed, but possibly they'll get sent to the UK by the end of the week on the Gigabyte NB Facebook page.

Has anyone with this laptop tried to install a linux distro? I'm wondering if it's hardware is well suported, especially gpu...
Also could someone check if there's an option in the bios to disable the dgpu like in sony's or lenovo's laptops? It would be easier to work with linux

The GPU shouldn't be an issue. Bumblebee will handle the NVIDIA GPU without issue and Intel has decent open source driver support for the 4600.

I've got lots of trouble with bumblebee in the past so I've always prefer to completely disable the dgpu. But it was a long time ago and I looked in the website, there's a new version I will give it a try.

Is the power consumption when the dgpu is disabled with bumblebee the same as if it was disabled in bios?

Yes, it power the GPU down entirely.

Bumblebee/BBSwitch are fairly new so if you tried them a long time ago then it was much more immature then.

Hello there!

I have some questions about p34g.

I want to buy one from xotic pc. So here is what i need you to consult me:

1) Do i need an IC Diamond thermal compound? (+35$)

2) What is really the difference between " 16GB DDR3 1600MHz [SKU-818EP] (Dual Channel Memory (2x8GB SODIMMS)) ( + 69$ )" and " 16GB DDR3 1600MHz [SKU-824PX] (Kingston HyperX CL9 Dual Channel Memory (2x8GB SODIMMS)) (+180$) ? Is this kingston or corsair RAM really that better? Because its like 100$ + more.. Should i take just a regular 16gb, or should i take kingston or corsair?

3)And last question is about SSD.. What is the "128GB Solid State Drive mSATA - Stock"? What is the quality? Should i take some samsung or intel instead, and pay 140-200$ more?

Thank you in advance, i would really appreciate your help!

1. It may help with temperatures, 1-10 Celsius difference. Also if the worker does a crappy job you could run your laptop hotter than it should.

2. The Timmings on the rams are different. AKA the lower the Timmings the faster it responds.
No upgrade it yourself, you will be overpaying. Also you won't note that much of a difference unless you photoshop and and have a 2GB picture to edit.

3. It's a Lite On SSD, it should be OK. Upgrading it won't make a huge difference but a Samsung would be best just make sure it's the newer model because that's where the performance gain would be.

The cost per performance ratio is to high, this laptop already comes with all the nice bells and whistles. Don't stress your wallet.

Conclusion
The laptop is fine stock, the only upgrade I recommend is RAM, but do that yourself. (but wait and see if you actually need it)

Only thing I would add is that if you want the warranty intact, then you need to get XoticPC to do the upgrades. Gigabyte said on their Facebook page that that wouldn't void the warranties.

Retroceded thanks for that second example, turns out I do from time to time photoshop files >2GB and so I'm actually going to look into upgrading ram now hahaha.

Also to the dude above, thanks, I'm most probably going to update my Wireless Card too. I work entirely off wireless, and it should make all the difference. Any recommendations for which of the Wireless Cards offered by XoticPC is best/most bang for buck?

About 2 years ago so yes it was fairly new. Thanks for the info, I think I will pull the trigger on this one once it'll be in stock in Germany or UK (no reseller in Switzerland unfortunately).
