How is the 15X's keyboard compared to the 15?
I returned my original 15 because keystrokes were not being inputted on a consistent basis, and some of the other keys needed perfect placement to actuate. Seemed like a common problem from what I read.
For those that have it, how are temperatures with an undervolt? And for those that have both, how are the acoustics?

Great looking laptop, wish it came with a GTX 1080MQ but overall one of the nicest looking laptops l have seen in a while.

All of my games seem to be capped at 60 fps; this includes older games like Oblivion and even Giants Citizen Kabuto. Any tips or info?
-
I'm hardly an expert, but with a 60hz screen would any higher fps be perceived?

There is a real world advantage to 120 fps (or 240 fps even) on a 60hz monitor vs 60 fps on the same monitor. But you'd probably need to be at a professional gamer level to see it.
Basically, the information displayed on each frame will be slightly more up-to-date. -
How would you compare this to the msi raider??? Other than the full 1070
Looking into this cause of lightness, its long lasting battery and.... aesthetics... it looks really clean and simple unlike.
Is the screen colour accuracy good for photoshop??? -

What kind of battery life are people getting with this thing?

I really wish the Aero 15X had a touchscreen. That's the only thing that's making me hesitate.

Has anyone ordered the Aero 15x with XoticPC? Placed an order but then got an email a week later informing me they have a delayed shipment. Probably won’t receive the laptop till mid-November.
XoticPC is at least giving IC Diamond and a rush order for free due to the delay.
Also looking at adding additional storage (at least 500GB). Any thoughts on the below options:
500GB Western Digital BLUE M.2 SSD (Read 545MB/s - Write 525MB/s) $159
500GB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (Read 3200MB/s - Write 1900MB/s) $269
1TB Western Digital BLUE M.2 SSD (Read 545MB/s - Write 525MB/s) $299

If you want to use the additional SSD as a file storage, I'd suggest go with the cheaper one.
I personally got a 960EVO which I'm gonna use as my game storage because its fast for games.
I didn't feel so inclined for a 1TB extra SSD. -
Fair. I would most likely use it for storage (photos, movies, etc..). But, may use it for some games. What type of difference would be noticed by gaming from the Western Digital? It’s still a SSD, so I would think it wouldn’t be much of a sacrifice. Longer load up times? Would gameplay cause lags with the 1070 processing the graphics?

There is a very minimal, if any, difference between a SATA and PCIe SSD in gaming.

My 15X will be arriving tomorrow. Customarily I would perform a clean install before doing anything. Has anyone done a clean install without driver issues of one sort of another? Are the drivers on the Gigabyte support page correct and complete?

Back in stock on Newegg. Oddly enough it doesn't have the free backpack & mouse anymore. Not as concerned about that so I placed my order.

Does this model have a full power TB3 port with 40gbps data transfer rate/ 4 PCIe lanes?

Got mine today from GentechPC. Was a little worried for a minute when the box just said Aero 15... but inside was a 15X.
And for the curious:

It seems like my HIDevolution upgrade to 32Gb came cheaper than the Amazon price.
Mine is on the way too. Just a few more days! -

Just ordered mine through Xotic PC. Currently backlogged until mid-end of November. Hopping it's more mid than end. My Asus G751JY gets bigger everytime I look at it.

Can anyone advise on how long the Smart USB Backup process normally takes?

Niceee
I’m debating if I want to up the ram and hard drive through Xotic or just wait till a later point to upgrade. I read additional ram helps conserve battery power in a laptop. Has anyone found any truth to this? Or, is this just hearsay?
My gaming desktop has 2x8 (16gbs) of 2666 ram and seems to get the job done well. (That one I’ll probably upgrade to 32 at a later date as I plan to keep it for a long time).

I'll answer my own question. 20 minutes or so, maybe less.
It was running for an hour and a half and I finally gave up and restarted the process.
If you don't see some activity going on in "My PC" or a cmd window in the background, it's not working!

Here are some screen shots for the game, I have a 100 mv undervolt, and the turbo disabled on the CPU. Stock paste. The game is set to the highest at 1080p

Any other online gaming shops that carry the Aero 15x and would do the repaste? That’s really the only thing I’m not comfortable doing on my own.

Just placed my order at the good folks over at HIDevolution. Here's hoping they get stock and ship it over soon!
Was deciding between this and the Razer Blade and in the end the bump to GTX1070MQ was too much to resit.kllla likes this. -

On a side note, I saw big temp drops with the Kyronaut but they started spiking again after 4 to 5 months (meaning my own paste job was probably terrible).kllla likes this. -
And, I believe those are not free. Ask questions on the chat or email either Ted or Donald for more information.Last edited: Oct 26, 2017 -

Just got my 15x from Newegg. Their packaging was extremely lacking. The inflatable air bag (of which there was just one poorly located) was completely devoid of air so the laptop box was just sliding around in an empty 4 inches of box back and forth during shipping. However everything looks ok so far. Just glad it came before my LAN party next week so I dont have to take my desktop.
I'll post some first impressions of my own once I'm out of work....I have to repair a handful of Lenovo's in the next few hours.omer.sak likes this. -

Check how this dude got his Gigabyte 15X for free. -
Received my laptop from newegg. Came with a bit of bloatware as expected. It's a bit heavier than i thought it would be but no biggie. Played a bit of warframe and it runs pretty smoothly on high. I also suggest you get rid of the elan drivers and install the windows precision drivers for the trackpad. Makes it much more smoother. Not to mention gestures are pretty nice.

I didnt get a ton of time to spend using my 15x last night as I let Windows update for a few hours (Spectrum internet was moving quite slow last night).
For reference I spend a lot of time working on Thinkpads, Latitudes, and various other laptops at work (repairing units for school districts) so I spend a significant amount of time with other peoples laptops haha
Right out of the box I was impressed with the build quality. I've read about how its both a combination of aluminum and plastic but I expected more plastic. Plesant surprise however I wouldn't feel comfortable with it dropping remotely as I would with a Thinkpad but I wouldnt be as concerned with it shattering into a thousand pieces after a small fall.
The unit feels smaller than most 15" and not just in thinness, definitely the whole form factor feels smaller than most, which isnt surprising given how there is barely a bezel around the screen.
The display is beautiful even for not being an IPS. I played a few rounds of both PUBG and some Destiny 2 with settings as high as I could get them and it ran flawlessly. I personally dont benchmark or put the FPS counters up since I'm a bit OCD and I know the moment I start paying attention to those numbers it will never be enough.
The fans were surprisingly quieter than I expected and the unit never felt uncomfortable in my lap even after about two hours of gaming.
I typed out some reports after getting O365 on the unit. Took maybe a few minutes to get used to the keyboard but after that it felt more than comfortable and didnt feel like it hindered my speed at all. Feels a bit more clicky than the keyboards I'm used to. The only keyboard I can really think of that felt similar was an Averatec 3700 series laptop I had back in 2005 (though that wasn't island style keys but the clicking felt the same). The RGB software seems pretty simple to use. The multiple profile options are nice as are the designs but I usually just use a solid color. Definitely more intuitive than the Corsair software I use on my desktop. The shortcuts for different functions on the keyboard for lighting, fan, wifi, etc are nice and the icons designated for each are pretty self explanatory. I've used units where I stare at an icon trying to decide if I'm looking at a key to switch to an external display or change contrast because the icons were so similar. Here its pretty easy to tell. Having the keyboard lighting shortcut be the spacebar + FN is also a nice touch as you can quickly pop it off without reaching up or looking at the F keys.
The touchpad was better than I expected. I don't use any of the gestures and I usually use Thinkpad nubs as much as I can and less than great trackpads on "Education Grade" Latitudes and HP units so to me its a great touchpad in comparison. Very responsive and quick. The only gripe I have is the clicking feels a bit mushy and there is definitely a deadzone between the left and right click buttons.
I haven't had a chance to discharge the battery yet but it's refreshing to have a laptop like this and the battery meter tell you the battery has 8.5 hours left and you haven't had it plugged in while doing Windows update for the last two hours (didn't realize my surge protector wasnt on!).
I have a LAN party coming up on the 10th to put it through its gaming paces but this is also my new daily driver but if anything else comes up during my usage I'll post it here. I plan on adding another 512gb drive in the unit within the next week or two as well.....or maybe a 1tb if the price is right. -
The Aero 15X is listed on Newegg.ca for $2899 CAD, which given the conversion rate is not the worst markup in price from $2200 USD. It shows as out of stock for now. I'm waiting for a good discount on this or the regular Aero 15, which does have a rather high MSRP compared to the US price. This variant is a better deal than the 1TB regular Aero 15 model, which actually has a higher MSRP than this. The keyboard issue seems to be fixed for this variant and I hope the same happens officially for the regular version as well. Was originally looking forward to the ASUS Zenbook Pro UX550VE, but the reviews so far have been disappointing, with the standout issues for me being the soldered on ram, poor thermals, and only average battery capacity. The delay from announcement to market release has also been shocking, and the price for that in Canada is marked up more than this machine.
