I'm also getting the grizzly kryonaut on my 15xV8. Curious to see what your benchmarks look like after your repaste

Any way to improve the sound?
The speakers are almost none existent. My phone gets louder.

This is my first Max-Q laptop; coming from a 17incher 6820hk/full 1070 etc..
I noticed the Nvidia control panel only has 3D settings, normal or a bug?

did someone had luck with repasting? i used grizzly kryonaut (first time) and my cpu temps increased by 4°C lol...gpu temps are pretty much the same. i repasted 3 laptops with waaay better results.. but without kryonaut

edit: the stock paste was pretty dry and brittle.. if someone has better results tell me

I opted for Gelid GC Extreme on CPU + GPU, and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads on my 15x coming from HIDevolution. I will receive it on Friday can report on my temps.

could you do me a favor and take a photo of the amount of thermal paste you use? i always had thinner thermal paste than kryonout, which is pretty thick - i think i could have used more on the cpu.. i will take it apart tomorrow again

edit: just did a quick repaste again with adjusted amounts of paste with the rest of my kryonaut - temps are a bit better but in 3d mark i get like 85°C in the cpu test (stock temp was 80°C) ... never kryonaut again ^^

    Greetings from Korea!

I 'm thinking about buying Aero 15x v8(GTX1070 MAX-Q) or MSI GS65(GTX1070 MAX-Q). I have some questions to ask you guys.

    1. Is that the led of right shift key and "/" key lights so poorly because of software bug or physical limitation? Is that annoying much?
    2. It is considerably heavier(laptop+adapter weight) compared to GS65. Is it(laptop+adapter) uncomfortable to carry in messenger bag by foot?
    3. I was told that this doesn't support USB-PD. Is that true?
    4. Can Optimus be turned off in Bios or other method? Is there no way to support G-sync in Aero 15x v8 in future?
    5. What do you guys think of MSI GS65 compared to Aero 15x v8?
    6. What is the LAN chip? Is it from Intel?
    7. Can the clock/voltage/TDP limit of CPU be manipulated through XTU? Some laptops don't support it(blocked in BIOS level). If the clock can't be manipulated, what is the each clock stage depending on # of active cores?
    8. This comes with horrible ELAN driver. Can this be upgraded to Precision driver using below method?

1 day after the second repasting the temps got a little bit better.. but still way too high.. i get thermal throttling in cinebench and some big jumps from 50 to 75 and back to 55.. like the heatsink is not 100% on the chip.. but all screws are like they were when stock.. cant recommend kryonaut from amazon germany. its waaaay thicker than in the youtube videos - maybe too old. i used a rice corn sized amount on both chips

1: physical limitatioons - not annoying at all
    2: 2kg - very light for me
3: you can charge mobile phones but it takes like 4 times the time of a phone charger.. but the power brick has a usb port for fast charge
4: nope - gsync is overrated and adds some amount of delay
    5: no idea
    6: no idea
7: sure undervolting is possible with xtu
8: you can use the elan drivers from the video

Just received the Aero 15x V8 yesterday. Have been playing Rainbow Six Siege on ultra settings and experience thermal throttling after about 30 minutes of gaming, which results in FPS drop of about 30-40. Has anyone else experienced similar thermal throttling while gaming? I only have the stock thermal solution, no repaste or thermal pads.

I've followed above but ran into a couple of issues on my Aero 15x v8. The Xrite app isn't listed in the smart update apps section, and the trackpad driver I installed unfortunately doesn't work. Upon reboot I have pointer control without the ability to right click, for about 30 seconds then the trackpad dies. Going to have to revert that one unless someone else has already found a different driver that works?

Have you tried to install the trackpad driver from the support section on gigabyte.com? It seems like the driver isn't linked properly, you could also try to install windows precision drivers, which are way better drivers anyway.

Weird that the x-rite is not added to the apps section, maybe gigabyte didn't finish adding the drivers. I could share the xrite-tool.exe, but that one is from the Aero15x 2017. So I'm not sure if it will work since the panels are different.

Hi.. I got my Aero 15x v8 last night and did a clean install after repasting... I also couldn't use the drivers in the video posted by D2D and had to rollback, experiencing exactly the same issues...

I haven't had much time to fiddle around but a very quick Aida stress before and after the repaste (kryonaut) I dropped 10 degrees Celsius in a quick 5 minute test, and I don't get any throttling after the repaste. Before the repaste I did get throttling very quickly. Also worth mentioning, I also undervolted the CPU. I will try undervolting the GPU later today...

    Hope this helps.

    Just received my 15x!

For those that also recently received yours, what charger did you receive with your unit? I ordered mine from HIDevolution and did NOT receive the charger shown in other unboxing & reviews. I plan to call them regarding this. The charger I received is large & heavy.

That's odd I used the drivers from the video and they worked just fine. I did have to restart windows and reapply then once last time for them to stick though.

If you mean that the touchpad stops working, It is normal. What you have to do afterwards is go to your devicemanager once again, there you will see a driver with a yellow '!'.
Do the same thing you did with the ELANdriver, but now choose the miniptp file.

Hope this works for you, keep amouse close!

liquid metal applied (because a friend still had some - really thin layer - no pools) to see if the kryonaut is really garbage. well in xtu with -0.155mv i have no more temp spikes but while gaming i only dropped like 4 °C to stock temps and in firestrike 7-9°C on CPU and 4-5°C on GPU - cinebench i get 75°C (77°C max) and a score of 1223.. not really worth the hassle i will leave it on for the next couple of weeks and see... liquid metal can be dangerous ^^

This worked awesome! Thank you very much for the help! Now just to do the registry fix for the repeated keys... There's so much to like about this laptop, but for £2200 I really think silly things like trackpad drivers and a working keyboard are to be expected. If this was anything other than my gaming pet project I'd be returning it.

I think the top corner and some of right side might be IPS glow but the bottom left is prominent even when I'm much further from the laptop, so I'm not sure.

I got my Aero 15x v8 now, but there are some serious problem.

    1. Double-input issue with keyboard has been solved with keyboard firmware 3.0.8. But now I have ignored input issue. If I types the edge of key or too fast, it's just ignored.
    2. Intel and Nvidia graphics driver aren't upgradable(no appropriate device has been found). Only ones from Smart Updater can be installed, but they're seriously obsolete.
    3. If I install Intel Graphics driver from Smart Updater, there are often freezing and when I play youtube and other hardware-accelerated video, there are only green screens(I think it's related to this).

Any solves or tips are welcome.

For #3 I assume your using chrome? For some reason the graphics set u / driver does not like chrome with hardware acceleration on. I'd found i have to use firefox or turn off hardware acceleration in chrome to get sits and videos to rune without black green and red crap all over the sites and videos

I had same issues as others with KB issues, unable to update GFX drivers, some slight lag, gave up and in the process of returning it back to HID.

Beats headphones aren't good and cheaply made.

Guess I'll just stick to Aorus from now on.

I had that issue with GFX drivers on last year's Aero 15 but it sorted itself out -- the NVIDIA installers "caught on" after not very much time and detected everything correctly. Presumably that is all that's required?

There's a very serious fault with Aero 15x v8. Single key input and key combinations are ignored with this keyboard. I think the problem are
    1) Faulty hardware. If you push slightly edge of key, it's 100% ignored.
    2) If a key is pushed too shortly, it will be ignored. The acception delay is too long.

    It's really annoying.
    Have anyone had this problem?

This laptop has a serious problem, faulty keyboard hardware. When you push the edge of key, it will be ignored and its degrees are different from each other keys.

I don't know it's just because I got faulty one, or entire products have same problem. Please share your info.

Right now I am getting audio from both my speakers and headphones. Anyone know how I can just set it to headphones? I think when I first plugged them in I was able to get to some menu that let me set device to either headphones or headset which might have some relevant options, but I don't know how to get to it now.

Hey guys! I received my Aero 15xv8 late last week, and I would be completely enamored with it if not for the temperature problems I've been experiencing.

I ordered the LM repaste and thermal pad upgrades from HID, but despite those precautions I seem to be getting worse temperatures than most user experiences I've read online. When running PUBG on high or ultra settings, my CPU is pushing past 90 (92-93 max in some cores), and the GPU sits at a consistent 89-90. I also cannot update the GPU drivers at all (stuck in 388.92), so that might be a factor.

Has anyone else re-pasted the new 15x and are getting similar results (or haven't repasted but are seeing better temps)? I'll be contacting HID soon, but if this seems to be the norm I might have to look into other options.

I to have the LM repaste, and I've noticed that unless I use throttle stop to keep the clock rate around 3.5-3.7ghz it will peg all 6 cores at 3.9ghz on overwatch/fortinite and my CPU temp will reach up to 90C. This is with my laptop laying flat on a wooden desk. I think with my cooler it stays around 86C. If i cap the clock rate to 3.5ghz the CPU temp doesnt exceed 85C and the GPU hovers around 79C. I had the previous 15X model with a LM repaste and was able to run the clock rate at the max turbo boost with temps not exceeding 85C for CPU/GPU

I get 78°C in witcher 3 with liquid Metal. I used barely enough to Cover the die. No thermal pads. -0.155mv undervolt

I just received my Aero 15x. Other than very minor backlight bleeding, the computer runs like a dream. I had a question though: Is there a way to disable the lit up GIGABYTE logo on the back part of the laptop? It's a bit much and distracting.
