guys, anyone have any reference or ideas on how to undervolt the 1070 maxq gpu on the aero 15x v8 using MSI Afterburner's curve? I can only find references for the 1060...
Thanks

I believe it's lighted by the backlight of the LCD panel. So no, as long as the screen is in use the logo will be lit up.

I cannot update either, There has to be a workaround. Does anyone know how to update? it doesn't take 10 series notebook drivers. I would assume this has to do with max-q. I tried Geforce experience and it says i have the latest with dec 2017 driver (388.92). That is also what is on the gigabyte site. Never in the history of laptops i have used has a company kept graphics drivers up to date.
-
Is anybody else getting a virus detection from the new Smart Update?
I downloaded the newest version 3.9.5 directly from the gigabyte site:
https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Laptop/AERO-15--i7-8750H#support-dl
I would think it's just a false positive since it's straight from Gigabyte but I scanned with Windows Defender and McAfee and they both detected something... -
No it's not. You can check that it's still lit up after turning off LCD. There's dedicated LED on the back of case.

Guys, my screen blacks out at random for maybe 1-2 seconds. Then when im resizing the window of an open word file, it occurs more often, longer this time for maybe 2-3 seconds. Anyone having the same problem? Should I return this so that they may fix it or is this normal?
Overall though, Im loving the Aero 15x, good performance for gaming and productivity. 4.5/5 -
Has anyone tried Gigabyte's official support channel to ask about graphic driver updates?
-
Decided to do a clean windows install on my new Aero 15x but now im getting micro stutters when opening browsers or even clicking on the battery icon. I installed all the drivers from the gigabyte website and I still get the micro stutters. Was fine before the clean install; anybody that has done a clean install experiencing this? Should have just kept the original image installed since it was fine, even going back to gigabytes image i still get them.

are those like 0.2-0.5 seconds long freezes but the sound keeps going? i get these primarly in battery mode...
-
They are small freezes just opening firefox or checking battery levels even opening smart manager little micro freezes. I am plugged in running on high performance. For example I open firefox and it stutters/micro freezes but once its open its fine. Wondering if its optimus and the graphic switching but it didnt do this out of the box and I have the latest drivers installed. I went back to gigabytes original image and I still experience this. I know the new intel drivers fixed this issue with optimus on my alienware but we are stuck with gigabytes drivers.
-
yeah i have the same freezes! i mean they are not THAT annoying but for 2500€ i expect more... someone from gigabyte said we have to wait for the intel drivers.. i still use the original image
-
Thanks for the reply, hopefully we get some updated drivers soon.
-
All guys who are getting freezes in battery mode, please check your clock speed.
If you use Gigabyte's battery mode(powersaver or balanced) after installing Smart Manager, on DC(battery) power, the clock speed is too low(~1.1GHz). I think it's a bug and have no idea how to solve this. -
Any idea what the battery charging policies under the Smart Manager mean and stand for? I haven't found anything indicating as much.

This driver successfully installed. I haven't had a chance to test it yet.sanyex likes this. -
yep, works!

It's just how they have their custom power profilsp set up, and I don't know how to override them unfortunately.
-
The freezes are Optimus issues. The GPU is idle most of the time, but some windows animations require it to be woken up, that is the freeze you see. Unfortunately windows doesn't use integrated graphics for hw acceleration, and if your turn of dedicated graphics in the BIOS and reboot, you will not notice the stutters since windows is forced to use the iGPU. Earlier versions of windows had the option to disable hw acceleration completely, but it's gone now (maybe the spring creators update will have it).
The workaround is to launch emptyproject11.exe from the smart manager directory, which will keep the GPU on and idle, but this would eat up battery life so I only recommend it when you are plugged in.RAD1CAL and Cognitive Dissonance like this. -
-
Undervolting the CPU worked wonders on the CPU temps, but if I try ccminer on this thing for more than 60 seconds it reboots. Anybody have a good undervolt number on the GPU?
As a comparison, last year's Aero 15 with the 1060 will mine all day.... -
Just dropping by to say that if you use the INF file from the Gigabyte-provided Nvidia "Graphics Driver" and override the one you get from the Nvidia website drivers (which you gotta unzip out of the EXE yourself - it's actually a self extracting archive... that locks the files up if you use it) AND THEN install the whole shebang with Driver Signing Enforcement (or something) DISABLED (it's one of those advanced startup options in W10), you MIGHT just be able to install the latest (or whichever) Nvidia drivers you want.
Emphasis on MIGHT, because I just did that on another laptop that isn't the Aero, but can't install Nvidia drivers from the Nividia site much like the Aero.
Win 10 complained along the way about "unsigned drivers" but I just clicked "okay" and voila: New Nvidia Drivers (in my case 391 because 397 borks multi-monitor for the 1060).
But I also used the "modded" INF file over from Laptopvideo2Go at the same time so I'm not sure which one made the install work lol. But the Driver Signing Enforcement thingy MUST be disabled or this will not work at all.
Good luck trying it out folks, and keep the original unmodded drivers close JUST IN CASE.Last edited: Apr 29, 2018 -
^^^^
I installed latest Nvidia driver from their site “no problem” but the problems began after where I would get bsod and culprit was Nvidia -
I told them that that last year I guess nothing was done about it. It’s not unheard of that corporate servers might be compromised and somebody is compiling the spiced up version of smart update for us to download on our brand new machines.
-
Unfortunately that's just Nvidia lol. Apparently the newest 397.31 drivers are a bit wonky on many systems.
-
It was a PiTA to install 397.31 on my Aorus X5v7.
-
Has anyone tried to install Windows 7 on the Aero 15X V8 ? I know there is no "Official Driver Support", but I don't think the chipset is that different from the previous Aero 15X, and that one indeed had Windows 7 drivers available.
-
Wait until you restart and the driver disappears. Seems to be happening to a few folks using Palit cards on desktops lol.
Also, multiple displays not working on 1060s.
Hence I'm sticking to 391.35 until they fix the darned thing... though the [Fixed crash in Far Cry 5 on the 1060] part in 397.31's release notes has got me a bit... apprehensive. -
I have returned my Aero 15x v8(1070) and gotton refund for horrible keyboard(ignored inputs depending on where you push on a key, specially on function keys).
I think the keyboard problem definitely comes from faulty hardware design, which should exist all across the products.
This is from other user who experienced the same problem. Is there anyone who have experience above problem? -
Uninstall the gpu drivers with DDU and reinstall with the drivers from intel and nvidia website. Dont use smart updater. It used drivers with a custom signing.
-
I had this issue as well but something I did recently corrected it. probably the updated driver from the nvidia website.
for me it does, looks something like this max brightness looking at the monitor dead on, but if look at it from an angle to the side of me it sort of disappears.idk 1st ips panel so not sure.

I did a clean install of Windows 10 and had no problem installing NVIDIA drivers through GeForce Experience. The only issue is that the GPU gets very hot and the heat spills over to the CPU (even when not running CPU-intensive apps). I was able to keep CPU temps down by undervolting the CPU but have no experience undervolting the GPU and when unchecking the box in Afterburner to enable voltage regulation it looks like I still can't modify it. Anybody have any luck doing this?
-
do you know how to turn off the logo light?
-
I am getting a pop up from Smart Update to install "P65Q". Always stays at 0%. Anyone know what this is and how to stop the pop up upon reboot?
-
Yeap, i had to rerun the installer a bunch of times because either the installer doesn't run after a reboot or it freezes at certain spots during install.
-
The temps are becoming a little much.. I get 90c on both CPU/GPU while running Rise Of The Tomb Raider benchmark.
I've undervolted both CPU/GPU to -155v and -125v respectively; fans at max, custom settings..
A few caveats; It's 78 degrees in NYC, no AC running, so the ambient temp is kinda high.. Also XTU stress tests temps were more comfortable, CPU 72c, GPU 70c.
I own a Sager NP1873-s (6820hk,1070). I played Far Cry 5 for a few hours under similar conditions and CPU/GPU never broke 81c (stock paste after a year and a half)
How is NewEgg/Gigabyte with popping the hood?
Should I just return this thing before voiding the warranty? -
I have an Aero 15x that appears to have one of the keyboard issues. My O key doesn't register keystrokes around 5% of the time. Back she goes!
-
If that LED link to EC/BIOS, if could be possible by editting EC/BIOS FIRMWARE or doing similar in unix-like OS. But if it's directly connected to the panel's power source, it's impossible without altering the hardware.
-
How did you undervolt the GPU?
-
Anyone having good experience with version 8?
-
I'm not able to undervolt the GPU. Afterburner shows it locked even with the options checked, and HID Evolution tech support says that NVIDIA locked it down so you can't change the voltage.
-
I don't think there's any reason to buy this instead of GS65.
-
You can manipulate the voltage by doing all the painful work in voltage-frequency graph(ctrl+F in AfterBurner)
I'm asking because it's so redundant... -
I've had some success controlling GPU temps by using the SmartManager "deep control" fan setting, which gives you a graph similar to what Afterburner does. I couldn't get Afterburner to unlock the fan but if you can, it's the same thing.
The default settings on my fresh install of Win 10 and latest version of SmartManager never had the fan going above 75% until the GPU was so hot it would melt, so I set it to run at 85-95% once it hits around 75 and now it never goes above 75. The fan is certainly loud but I prefer that to a molten laptop. -
Hello all, I have a couple questions.
1. 8750 15x doesn't like the hedphones I plug in and still plays out the speakers I don't see an option under audio settings, and there doesn't appear to be a dedicated Realtek application, just the drivers.
2. Is dolby atmos just a trial/bloatware I can get rid of? -
What bugs me is that I would hate to pay msi more and get less in nearly every aspect.
-
For 1 There is a setting you have to download from Microsoft store to control that
2 believe it or not it actually enhances the sound. It’s there for a reason. -
Hi, if the headphones dont work, its a problem with the realtek app. you can download the latest version at www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9p2b8mcsvpln
-
Equalizer APO and Peace GUI really bring these speakers to life.. You need booster program with this laptop, otherwise the sound is the weakest of any laptop I have ever owned.

How can a Laptop with Downward facing Speakers that are maybe 1” inch big, Have Or hope to offer. Dolby Atmos ? Maybe it’s BS they should get Sued IMO
Or it’s Marketing I can’t sell a TV saying it’s Dolby Digital and then not really deliver.
What exactly is Dolby Atmos accomplishing on the Aero 15x. I’d like to email Gigabyte to ask them and get the response in writing. Then do it again and post on their Social Media asking just so I can have proof and they don’t blame one employee.
What’s next they offer 100% sRGB and it’s only really 72% -
Throw in an equalizer and you'll hear the Dolby Atmos effect. It's hard to describe, but the audio separation is definitely different from standard laptop sound signatures.. I feel it's wasted in this instance. But it works for sure.
