Is the Killer Manager installed on your machine? Also enable g sync by going to the nvidia control panel and playing with the settings from there

X7 owners! Hows the hinge tension on your machine? Can the lid be opened easily with one hand and does it bounce a lot when doing things like typing?

Lid can be opened with one hand, and the base stays put. It doesn't bounce at all when typing.

Ugh, Gigabyte still hasn't sent an order of DT's in to resellers yet. I'm still waiting. I want something in stock now (and I'm set on teh 1080 despite the potential power supply issue), but tbh there's no good models besides this one with the level of performance, build quality, and cooling (in my opinion). I returned my AW due to a gap in the bezel and buckling ten-key pad in addition to the heatsink issues, the P775DM3 has too many issues with its warped heatsink as well, the Asus G701 has heating issues, and the MSI GT73 is just too dang thick. If it were half an inch shorter I'd probably have scooped it up already just due to timeliness, heh. That leaves the Aorus as the only model left with a 120hz display and good capabilities out of box.

Any new build quality or general performance impressions? :D

Okey, so I spent over an hour reading all the thread, which gave me some really decent insights about these new Aorus laptops with Pascal GPU's.

The single problem for me is, has anyone ordered a x 15,6' machine? Cuz i would really like to get it with the 120Hz screen, since my budget can't stretch to a x7 120Hz model. And yet, I couldn't find a single person providing any useful feedback or personal review on the 15inch model.

    Any thoughts on this? :)

One thing that has me a bit confused, there are many people complaining about the bae QHD screen on the Aorus X7 V6 but in other forums like the Alienware one it is almost never mentioned. AFAIK, it is the same LCD panel??

How bout knock out your own review for potential X5 owners here? It will be a great help and also a good base for those who already have the X5 to compare temps, noise, overclocks etc etc. Just a suggestion :))

What about the X5 V6 G-Sync version, is that also plagued by the same screen problems as the bigger 17"?

Just unpacked my seriously delayed Alienware 17 R4 (which is supposed to have the same LCD panel) and immediately noticed the striping issue. And this was even on the black loading BIOS screen without my computer glasses. As someone said before, this kind of reminds me of monitors from 20 years ago. Anyone not noticing this should probably have their vision checked :D

So, we have the same problem with Alienware and Aorus then, that the only way to get a 1080 (or in Aorus case a 17") is to also get G Sync (which is meaningless for me on a small 17"), poor battery life (due to no optimus because of GSync) and striping issues. Has the world gone mad??

Aorus is definitely doing something wrong with their PSU choice for the DT. The X7 V6 already drew more than 230w from mains when under a sustained heavy load and thats with the 1070

I'll be getting my hands on an X7 V6 in about 2 to 3 weeks time. The FHD version mind you. Will keep you guys updated with temps with stock paste, Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and possibly some liquid metal like CLLP or CLU if i can get my hands on some. I'll be using stock speeds to run benchmarks and so forth

Its a strange thing to do i agree, but re-sellers don't report much on this issue in their own reviews either, this is mostly affecting consumers according to this thread

    http://forum.aorus.com/forum/gaming...9-aorus-x7-v6-dt-losing-power-even-plugged-in

    Dis strange indeed

Uh oh. That issue is rearing its head at us. Notebookcheck states that both the DT and the regular X7 V6 both drain around 250w under stress. "A maximum consumption of 253 W raised the suspicion of an overtaxed power adapter. However, in the stress test, the battery did not deplete." - taken from the notebookcheck review of the X7 V6.

Edit: I hoping that, since I'm personally gonna use the FHD V6, the lower screen cap rate (75hz compared to 120hz), Fast/GSync, and undervolting will help out.

I am sure we have V6/DT owners here who can chime in and give us their experience of the PSU, or maybe not everyone is having these issues with PSU.

Hello. I have a couple of questions about X7 dt v6.

Can you call this a portable machine? Meaning you can bring this to a plane or traveling?

How are the temps on gaming most especially on Witcher 3 or high demanding games?

Does the keyboard or the overall material feel premium quality (

Two questions for those who own the FHD IPS 75Hz panel on the Aorus x7 v6 :

    - Is this panel Gsync ready ?
    - Anyone has more informations about the technical specs of this fella (contrast, response time grey to grey, black level)

I'm digging the web to get those infos but it seems almost impossible to find a damn thing about this panel.

I'd like to go for the QHD one, but contrast and black level are pretty bad and i'm going to use this laptop for webdesign and watch movies sometimes... Is it as bad as its specs suggest ?

After investigating a bit more, i'm going to answer to my own question, thanks to a french dude who own the version i was talking about :

    This panel is a LG LP173WF4-SPD1, and here is a link on panelook.com : http://www.panelook.com/LP173WF4-SPD1_LG Display_17.3_LCM_overview_24463.html

    • Resolution : 1920(RGB)×1080 , FHD
    • Display Mode : AHIPS, Normally Black, Transmissive
    • Surface : Antiglare
    • Brightness : 300 cd/m² (Typ.)
    • Contrast Ratio : 700:1 (Typ.)
    • Display Colors : 262K (6bit) , CIE1931 72%
    • Response Time : 25 (Typ.)(Tr+Td) Viewing
    • Angle : 80/80/80/80 (Min.)(CR≥10) (L/R/U/D)
Nothing to be excited about... A pretty common IPS panel not suited for professional work.

I did notice the refresh rate mismatch, but the french dude seems to be pretty sure about his claim. I don't really know what to think about that. Maybe this panel has been overclocked ?

Can we expect an announcement from Aorus during CES regarding the x7 serie ? I'd love to see a new version with a slightly better panel !

does he have the laptop himself or does he just now the panel ID? If he does have the laptop in his hands then he can verify if its 60 or 75hz. gentech, XoticPC, Hidevolution stae it as a 75hz panel. I hope there isnt gonna be a refresh just yet. I'm about to place my order for the X7 and i have not seen any tangible improvements in Kaby Lake over Skylake other than the fact that Kaby is a tad bit more energy efficient which in our case is neglected by the use of a G Sync panel

He actually owns this Aorus x7 with the FHD panel, i'm going to ask him to be more precise about the refresh rate.

There is no major improvements between Skylake and Kabylake, that's true. I was just hoping Gigabyte would upgrade the FHD panel at least because there are some pretty nice TN panels on the market (MSI GT73VR's N173HHE-G32 panel for example) that can fit different needs, not only gaming, and in this price range, one can expect a better panel.

The french dude replied to me and here is what he said :

"Yes, this panel actually supports 75Hz refresh rate when Gsync is activated, otherwise it only runs at 60Hz. The panel is only 6bits, which is pretty weak and doesn't suit to professional needs."

I think that i"m going to wait CES 2017, according to Digitimes.com, Gigabyte is going to showcase full series of Aorus gaming products with Z270 motherboards and Kabylake CPU. Maybe they will equip their babies with new panels... Let's dream...

Unfortunately, can't tell you more about it. I think he wanted to say that without Gsync, these panels only supports 60Hz. Maybe the Aorus one has been upgraded to support a higher refresh rate and Gsync ?

I don't own this laptop, nor anything with G-Sync, but my understanding is that G-Sync can be enabled/disabled via software within windows. I don't believe these laptops provide a means to switch between the dGPU and iGPU via BIOS (which is a shame).

UPDATE: Ya, it's a setting in Nvidia Control Panel: http://www.howtogeek.com/270672/how-to-enable-optimize-and-tweak-nvidia-g-sync/

Gsync and Optimus are mutually exclusive. GSync can be disabled through the Nvidia control panel. I own this notebook and can confirm it is indeed a 75hz screen.

Mutually exclusive in the sense that only one or the other (or neither) can be enabled at once; however, both can exist in a single product and br switched between back and forth if there's a MUX and the BIOS exposes it.

Looks like the v7 line with Kaby lake & thunderbolt 3 have been announced:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Aorus-...-GeForce-GTX-10-series-graphics.190017.0.html

The interesting thing for the x5 v7 is that they removed the 1080 screen and replaced it with a 4k screen, which I'm not sure was a great call.... I'd hope the 120hz 5ms panel would still be an option (maybe from resellers like gentech/xoticpc).
Also, it states that for the x5 & x7 the storage is: 2x M.2 PCIe SSD + 1x 2.5” HDD/SSD. This would indicate they removed one of the m.2 slots, which I'm guessing most people won't care about, but I actually had a use case for all 4 of those drives

Still waiting to see if they got rid of those rubber stoppers for the old/removed ports, and whether a MUX/Bios switch has been added to toggle between the dGPU and iGPU.

I think the only benefit of this refresh would be Thunderbolt 3. I hope that either AUO fixes their panel striping issue or Aorus switches to Chi Mei for their 120hz panels. The GS73's panel happens to be an exceptionally good Chi Mei TN panel with 120hz support, granted that its a FHD rather than QHD panel
