They couldn't see the striping on the QHD panels either which I, having seen the problem myself, find remarkable.

You say you want QHD but yet refer to data about the FHD? Something is wrong here...might be me :)

Don't have it myself as Aorus isn't well represented in Sweden :( If I could get one without internal GSync I would have bought it instantly.

But I have the V3 and think that for a gaming laptop it is one of the best.

    Hi guys,

Just received my FHD Aorus x7 v6 last night. I was curious so I wanted to mention that the 1080 IPS display can be overclocked. I was running it at 100Hz without issue. Display looks great, no light bleed at all. Computer feels very premium, thinner than I was expecting. The keyboard light effects are a lot of fun, but I'm just a bit disappointed that because they're RGB, it can't produce pure white very well. That's an extremely small nitpick though, and otherwise I haven't really found anything I can knock it on besides the strange covered (disabled?) ports.

I'm really happy that it seems to be in perfect condition because I took a chance and ordered an open box from newegg.

Also hows the sound quality of the 3.5mm jacks? Aorus is updating their new kaby lake refreshes with an ESS Sabre DAC. So if the quality of the current audio solution is still perfectly fine then i wont be holding out till the refresh is released

I've been pretty busy so I haven't used it extensively yet. I'll list a few things I have noticed so far:

I have been able to play games with a stable -110mV underclock of the processor. I could probably push it further but I haven't tried. Fan noise is great, very quite playing Overwatch at 100 FPS (love that screen OC) epic settings with fan speed set to normal. I noticed that if I turn fan speed to 'Quiet' the hardware must instantly throttle because I drop down to like 30 or less frames as soon as I change it.

I purchased an open box and discovered why the unit was returned: One of the speakers, a sub I think, is blown and buzzes at certain frequencies at higher volumes. I have been able to minimize this by playing with the equalizer, but it is still present. Not a deal breaker for me since it is usually plugged into speakers or I'm using headphones. Even without it buzzing I don't feel like the speakers are very good. Not the strongest part of the laptop.

I'm no audiophile so I don't think I can give a very good review of the 3.5 audio out of the unit, but it sounds fine when I plug it into my speakers. I noticed I have to turn the volume up higher than I did with my desktop to get the same volume from my speakers. Most likely it falls into average category, though again I am not a very good person to ask.

Through undervolting and turning the brightness down, I was able to get about 4 hours of youtube out of the battery, which is not bad imo.

I got a lot of network drops initially. Like every 15 minutes my wifi would just derp. After I uninstalled the Killer software and just used windows to install the driver, I was able to use it for 5 or 6 hours and didn't get dropped once. I recommend doing this right away.

I'll run a 3D Mark or whatever other benchmark you'd like me to run when I get a chance. Hopefully this week sometime.

Btw: strange that the killer network suite issue is popping up so much. Is your windows post anniversary update?

Oh, you're right. Well, that is totally lame, yes, as the X3 is the most interesting option (rather portable with 7820HK) to actually expand on with external graphics given that it only has 1060 to begin with. I'm depressed now.

Whatever happened with Alienware 13's offering HK CPU's? I'm convinced the top configuration had it a month or two ago, but then it got removed apparently. The new Kaby Lake HK's don't seem to be an option either on the 13's.

hey guys, hopping over here from the alienware forum trying to look for some alternatives.

i want a gtx1080 laptop but the 17r4 is just way too massive. the razer blade pro has a **** 6700hq so i've been looking at the aorus x7 v6 dt or the upcoming v7 dt.

so i know the razer blade pro is **** on b/c apparently the gtx 1080 doesn't even perform to its full potential? i heard it was being intentionally throttled in order to reduce heat.

i'm worried the aorus x7 dt laptops also have throttling since it also has a similar thin-profile like the razer. people keep telling me to avoid aorus due to heat issues. is this still true?

The DT already is not performing as good as it was advertised. We have another thread discussing inadequate power being delivered to the 1080 in that system

For now it looks to be that way unless you want to live with the throttled performance in both the DT and the Blade Pro. Still waiting on notebookcheck's Blade Pro review. Least it gives us another laptop of similar thickness to compare it to.

Hey guys, my Aorus x7 v6 with GTX 1070 is only getting around 12,700 in Fire strike. That's turning all the options to full overclocking mode. That seems to be lower than most of the scores most people are getting. Any ideas on why or how to improve the score?

    Thanks

Edit: I ran it again but this time it recommended turning G sync off. When I did I got a cool 14,700 and like 18,000 GPU. This is one mean machine.

How are your temps like? If you're getting that low of a score on the 1070 there may be some throttling either due to high temps or an excessive draw of power from the wall

I think skipped this on the x3 because it would be a hard sell to buy an x5 or x7 if the x3 offers the same CPU and the ability to have an external GPU. I love the x3 and would never go back to a 15.6 or bigger laptop.

Can someone tell me the difference between the x5 and the DT, both look very similar to me.

Also does anyone have any ideas about when the v7 versions will be released?

The x5 is 15.6", the DT is 17.3". The x5 has a 1070, the DT has a 1080. There are several more differences such as PSU, Cooling system, weight and dimensions (obviously).

And I'm not sure when the v7 versions will be released.

Sorry I meant to say x7 I think which seems to have both a plain vanilla X7 and a DT version. The only difference I can see is that one comes with a 1070 and the other with a 1080?

I've read the X5's run a little hot, is this also true of the X7's or does the bigger size=better cooling? I'm guessing the 1080 GTX version will still bake.

I believe that is the difference between X7 (1070) and X7 DT (1080).
During CES, one of the sites posted v7 (for x5 and x7; x3 preorders already available) release date in March.

    Here's a review of the X3 V6 from Xotic:

The GPU gets to 95 degrees, yikes.

Cross posting this from the Aorus owners lounge thread as I remember a few people asking about the V3 in here.

When's it available. It should be now. Personally I'd wait. Costs nothing extra for the new cpu. And you don't want yesterday's cpu. And in some games there IS an advantage in fps gains X

Edit: Really sorry if i'm confusing you guys. My main issue now is that supposedly the V7 with kaby lake will not have the FHD panel anymore. The 120hz screen is'nt necessary for me as I use my external 144hz panel most of the time when gaming. And with kaby lake benchmarks showing only minute performance gains and behaving the same thermally I don't know if its worth waiting for the V7 line. Looking for your opinions

Wait. I've just clicked. The v6 never had FHD. Neither did v3, v4 or v5. They've always been 3200x1800 panel. Where ever the info for FHD came from is not correct.

I do not know if we're referring to the same laptop here hahahah but lets start afresh lol. I had planned to get the X7V6 with the FHD IPS screen. Now that its getting a Kaby Lake refresh and does not appear to have that panel anymore, i am not too sure if i should get the refresh with the QHD screen and hope, that in the event they are reusing the AUO panel, the striping issue is fixed or order the current Skylake FHD skew

Oh I see. When you disregarded the tb3 etc in the other post. I instantly assumed you mean the x3 since they aren't getting it in the refresh.
Maybe they will have the screen. It's hard to say. I'm not really familiar with striping screen. The 1070 is plenty for the screen. I'd probably go with the screen that you mainly use externally. If you use 1440p. Then I'd have it because then when you game on the laptop at 1080p your getting more fps at same settings. So your just going to notice it maybe and feel like you can't game the same way on your external 1440p (or whatever it is). So I'd just pick what's the same as your monitor really.
Plus colour and detail is usually better. Sometimes it's nice gaming from the laptop and having a nicer display helps otherwise you will always game externally and your laptop will literally be a fully time desktop instead of laptop if that makes sense.

I hope this is the correct place to post this.
I plan to buy the X5 sometime in late April/early May.
I've heard that the 3K panel has a lot of PWM and that I should go for the 1080p/120Hz one. Personally I'm fine with a 1080p screen, and Newegg has one on sale right now( https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834725037). It also has a nice $430 discount. That is a LOT and is the only thing that brings the laptop within my budget of $2000.
What are the user reviews of this laptop? Does this get really hot due to the slim design?
Also would this laptop last me a good 3.5-4 years?
Would a current user recommend it to someone who is about to purchase this?
I am really confused about what to buy and I'd like to not have regrets after buying this!
    Thanks!

Yo guys! Using an X7v6 here! Anyone here having issues with the latest version of Fusion engine? Mine gives me a runtime error and reinstalling net framework has not fixed it. Also, my C&C center will not show up on screen regardless of how many times i try to launch it. Any workarounds?

So i went on an overclocking spree today on my X7v6 and managed to push my 1070 to 2063Mhz core and 4293Mhz on the memory using Afterburner. Core temps went up to 68 celcius max for the GPU and 56 celcius for the CPU on a 20 min Firestrike loop with fans set on a custom loop. Perfectly stable. Anything above that and the test would crash. Other than that, loving the sheer power and thermal management on this laptop. Excellent temps with very acceptable fan noise too.

Impressive. I would have predicted higher GPU temps, well done.

Hey all. I'm experiencing a weird issue with my X7v6 FHD. So i have my screen set to turn itself off after 10mins. If i leave it for a period of time e.g when i cook or go out and eat, when i move the mouse to turn the screen back on, i experience a really bad case of striping where like a majority of the pixels are visible and colors are all messed up and flickering. The striping tends to disappear after a restart but the flicker tends to remain for about 20 to 30mins before slowly disappearing. Anyone got a clue as to what is going on? I am on Nvidia's latest WQHL driver updated via GeFore Experience. The flickering is really making any use of the laptop really difficult as it tends to strain my eyes and eventually i end up with a bit of a headache.
