I can only speak for the 1080p 75Hz IPS screen. There is little to no light bleed, color gamut and accuracy seems to be very good and the blacks look great. I love it.

Beautiful display on my end. I don't notice any lines and it's clear, quick and bright.

A bit off topic, but has anyone been able to figure out how to customize the macro key colors? Seems you can only choose from a few presets by pressing the "G" button.

No backlight bleed. No striping. Incredibly smooth gaming. I'm VERY happy with the QHD screen.

About the QHD screen and its striping...

If you mainly use external screens for gaming and work (would use this as a workstation also) and mostly use the built in screen for like casual sofa web browsing, is the screen still so bad that it should be avoided?

Out of curiosity, those of you who are "frustrated" by this, how picky are you normally with the screens you use? Are you like cleaning them all the time to keep them in mint condition? Not asking to offend anyone but more to get a feeling for how much of a problem this really is.

Also, is the magnitude of the problem affected by the current screen brightness or any other "settings"?

I found the screen to be smooth, good, and vibrant for an uncalibrated TN, with no light bleed and no lines despite sitting 1.5 feet away from it. Loved the 120hz. League, WoW, and Titanfall 2, had no hiccups. The same 1440p screen was in my AW 17, which I no longer have. I clean my screen when I notice dust on it--about once a month. I just use some anti-static wipes. People that have the lines state they are most noticeable on solid color backgrounds, but on the default black AW background I couldn't make them out despite being at full brightness. I think if you're primarily using other screens you'd have nothing to worry about. :)

Am thinking of buying the Aorus x7 v6 cf2 or the clevo p670rs-g. The Aorus is a lot more expensive. Can anyone vouch for this laptop? Build quality? Temps? Noise? Gaming performance

Also does a Samsung Evo 850 fit in it? 256 gab is so small...

No reason I could think of for why it wouldn't since it's standard size. And you may want to consider the 960 Evo instead (unless you already have the 850 laying around.

Thanks for providing feedback. Now I am even more confused, have Aorus/AOU fixed the problems or can different people really perceive this so differently??

I think it's a bit of both. As AUO produces more of the screen, I'm sure they're learning how to minimize or eliminate the banding. And people have varying degrees of eyesight as well.

Picked it up from UPS this morning at 9am, and I still haven't even turned it on yet. I've been cleaning my office and doing a couple things for work. I will definitely get it up and running tonight, and if I don't post then, I'll post tomorrow at some point.

Meant to post these earlier. This is with a 4ghz OC and level 4 gpu OC. When dropped down to 3.8ghz the cpu hangs in the mid to low 70's. Good enough for me!

CLLU on cpu :/ Seems warm compared to others. Haven't noticed any throttling while gaming and my house/room is never cool (southern cali). So i guess I'll just monitor temps for now.

Well I over looked the fan settings, that obviously helped a bit. Set it to a customized auto high setting. Bit better temps/score.

Firestrike isn't a good benchmark for CPU / core temps. Can you try OCCT or Prime95?

Could always order something else. And if you like it cancel. If you don't send it back and wait. But dont hold your breath. Sometimes amazon is amongst the last to get products. So the wait might just be a bit longer even in to the new year maybe.

No they won't cancel because of the price, the problem is that Amazon is not one of the top tier sellers for Gigabyte and Aorus.

Maybe they got a few units but there was a queue in front of you, so you are still waiting in that.

My theory for Gigabyte-made products is that they they aren't readily kept in stock in America--especially the high-end models. They have a much larger market in Taiwan/Asian provinces. So we get smaller shipments less often.

Anyone know if there are any disadvantages to keeping the lid closed while gaming / under load on the X5 (e.g., damaging/warping the panel from high temps)?

I don't think closing the lid should damage the X5. Unless there is an exhaust under the screen lid. BTW wat are your temps and performance numbers like? Mind running a firestrike for us.?

Can't really see any downsides to doing that unless somehow all the heat comes rushing out of the keyboard and on to the screen. No idea how that will work though. I used to do the same thing on my old Lenovo Y580. And that thing ran pretty damn hot. But 2 plus years of doing so and its still fine. So i would think that you're good doing that

I've yet to pull the trigger on the X7 v6 FHD (its a very itchy trigger finger mind you) but i would like to hear from all owners regardless of it being the 15.6'' or the 17.3''. What disadvantages do you guys see in the Aorus? The one's that i see are:

    a) Loud fans (granted that they are pretty thin fans in a pancake thin laptop)

    b) The lack of Optimus due to G Sync

    c) Could run a tad bit hot (not counting the hot and humid environment where i live)

    d) Not so great-(ish?) speakers? (Coming from Lenovo with JBl and Clevo with Onkyo and SBX software so i think i'm kinda spoiled on that)

    e) Lack of smartcharging software?? I plan to have it connected to the mains most of the time i do not have classes so battery longevity is an area that i look at quite a lot.

Please feel free to add on to this list. I'm pretty sure some of you might think differently from this so i would love to hear all your opinions on your machines. Aorus has really swayed me with the features that they are packing in to their Pascal refresh lineup and i think that they have really nailed it this time compared to everything that they have released in the past.

Clevo still has plenty of issues regarding their ECs and BIOSs. The prospect of having to update both of them once every fortnight or so doesn't really help

I'd err on the side of caution with that. Whilst some notebooks can. I've done in the past. But I've also read someone had screen bruising or something because of it. I'd check what kind of temps delivered from the keyboard section is like. I've it's very hot. Don't. Maybe have it open a little. If you close it based on someone's past experience. And it damages the screen. Are you gonna blame someone else's advice? You can't.

Remember that you have full control over the fans, the "Gaming" fan profile is aggressive, if you need lower noise you can use Auto Fan with a maximum of like ~50% to keep noise at check.

Laptop still runs about three hours on light load and browsing, so IMO dropping two hours of battery life for GSync and High refresh rates are an excellent choice especially since this is a premium high end gaming laptop.

Pretty sure the laptop can handle that easily.

Speakers are good but not great, I would say they are above average though.
I had a Lenovo Y50 with JBL Speakers, if I remember correctly the sound quality is comparable.

hey guys I had to factory reset my brand new Aorus x7 V6 to fix the keyboard. Can anyone please help me with the apps? The reset deleted al the apps such as smartcam and the killer wireless app. Basically a few of the reasons I actually bought this laptop...

The smartcam needs a activation code which I now don't seem to have :/

Download the Aorus update app then install and run it.

Then getting a driver or an app is a matter of just clicking.

(Note:- download NVIDIA and Killer drivers from their website as its much newer than what Aorus is providing).

It should work, I also did a fresh install of Windows just to clean the OS.
Download it from the app and it should work.

Also I'm pretty sure that the Tru HD cam thingy didn't come with a license key.

Sorry for not posting up any more information about my x7 v6 like I said I would when I last posted Friday. I've been messing with the laptop for most of the weekend getting everything the way I like and installing a ton of programs and games. I have done a few benchmarks, but mostly gamed all weekend. I'll post up some more information tomorrow when I get a chance. Overall, it's one amazing laptop!

For quite a few users it was due to the Killer suite that comes in the package. Most of them solved it by installing just the bare driver. YMMV here though. My friend's 650RS barebones with the Ac1535 card got very good results using the options in it

Have now installed all new drivers. Performance is great on this laptop now. No internet issues either. Have now tried it with a number of games and its doing well! Im gonna post a review next weekend. Im not overly technical so wont be able to provide a huge detail but can atleast provide some pictures and general information on the performance. Only thing I need to figure out is gsync
