At 1280x720, the loss for DoW2 is not too noticeable at 1600x900. It's not quite as sharp as 1600x900, but it still looks good. I would not mind playing most games at that resolution.

The backlit keyboard is now availalbe on the UK store. Finally I can order my laptop but I am unsure of what CPU to get. I wont be using it for games really but in terms of the most resource hungry application it would be Photshop CS4. I also tend to have a lot of applications running so what processor would I need ideally?

Also is it better to go for the higher resolution screen.

    Thanks in advance.

if you are a student, or "buying on behalf" of a student you get another 6%

check www.dell-sci.co.uk or i can give you the contact details of the person i spoke to at dell ;)

seems that the backlit option is only available on a few studio system online at the moment

Even the T4200 will be able to multi task fine.

Dell usually charges too much for their CPUs. It's better to upgrade yourself later.

Yes. The 1366 x 768 is not that good.

Ordered my laptop with thanks to mikebuzz of course. Phoned Dell and got them to give me what I consider a great deal.

    Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHZ | 320GB 7200RPM HDD | 4GB RAM | 1080p Screen | 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 | Intel 5300 | Blu-Ray | Backlit Keyboard | Standard Black colour | 64 bit Vista| Bluetooth| 9 cell battery

All for £850 = one happy customer. Would of cost in the region of £1,200 online.

wow that is a good deal.

I have just bought the 1555 £470 option for £380. I will add the upgrades myself at a later date. Bit gutted about the backlit keyboard but I am sure I will be able to pick one up later,
Anyone know where you can get them from?

I ordered my 1555 on May 25, and it entered the production stage the same day. It's still there now, 10 days later, but I'm hoping it'll be finished on schedule- the estimated shipping date is June 8.

I ordered my 1535 with the basic Dell 1397 B/G wireless card, but the system still came with all three antenna cables. One of them was just unplugged. I later bought and installed an Intel WiFi 5300 card that uses all three antennae, and it's been working fine ever since.

    Hi guys,

Since in my country 1555 is still unavailable I am in a quite a wondering situation should a get 1537 or wait for the 1555.

In the case of 1537 I will get P8400 with the 1440 LED display. I also don't want to lose the gimmicks that are not available in 1555 and the awful placed USB ports is a dealbraker for me.

For me the most important thing is the display so I would like to know which one is better - 1440x900 16:10 or 1600x900 16:9. Personally I would prefer the 16:10 format. I was also checking the studio setup guide with a hope to find 900p display's specifications. I also tried to find in different languages (croatian, english, russian), but it's one and the same document, all rev. 00.

If the 1440 is the better display I would go for the 1537 right now. So if anyone has compared both display i will be very happy if you post some info here so i can make my final decision ;)

    Thanks!

You can find few pages behind the comparison between 720p of 1555 and 1440x900 of 1537. the 720p is really bad.... I hope that my 900p will be better :D

Yup, yesterday I did read the whole 83 pages (took lots of time :D) and I saw the difference from the nice pictures - big difference there :) The question is that if the 1600x900 is equally bad as the 1366x768 I am going to buy the 1537 right away. However, I doubt that will be the case.

1440x900 and 900p are basically the same thing, it's just that 900p is 160 pixels wider (1600x900). All you gain is a bit of horizontal viewing space.

Yes, I know, but in a matter of a fact I wont be using that additional horizontal space. What I am going to do the most with the laptop is to browse the web, check mail, chat. I don't really like 1600 compared to the 1440 is that there will be more and more blank space around the webpages.

Now I got to read the "Studio 15 media sensitive button problem" topic. It really made me think trice (tripple) again... but at least there is a new firmware from today that is said to be fixing the problems. Well, I'll be keeping my eyes on it for the next day or so.

It's strange how a big manufacturer like Dell cant get its product just right. It's either 1537 is having poor sound and problematic touch sensitive buttons or the 1555 has many features cut... I really can't get the idea behind the missing HDD/wi-fi/caps lock led status lights. Probably the smartest thing is to wait and not buy anything for now. Will keep using my old HP nx6110 Celeron 1.5ghz with probably the cheapest display ever made :D

Actually, there may be a firmware-based fix for the media buttons now. Check the media button problem thread, there's a link posted.

And I fully agree that these new wider displays are not good for laptops, and also that the 1555 has lost many cool features from the 1535/1537.

While I agree that 16:10 is generally better for computing than 16:9, I have to say the 1600 x 900 resolution has really grown on me. Sure, there's extra white space on the sides of most websites, but now I can load up my bookmarks bar with many more bookmarks and the taskbar in Windows 7 with far more applications. Also, viewing 16:9 video on the 1555 is ridiculously awesome.

So I have the master volume only showing 2 bars, I'm listening to music on WMP and turned the volume bar on WMP all the way on low and it's still little loud but somewhat bearable but when ever I click a web page or back arrow I hear a very loud click in my ear using ear buds from the iPod. Why is the volume for the headphone jack soo loud and how can I turn it down some. At least how do I turn down the loud click everytime I click with the touchpad.

You're right about the 16:9 (although I've really grown to like the 900p screen), but the choice for me was between the myriad of features of the 1535/1537 and the ATI Mobility 4570. The 1555 would basically have to come without a screen installed to have me favor the older model.
