    Hey Guys...
try to be hulpful for a lot of people like me...
In Europe we can't buy this software...
You don't have to give the serial... we can pay creative after the trial period (30 days)...
    It's not illegal then...

Yeah good deal. Did you get that just with the coupon code and discount or did you negotiate with them to get to that price?

called them 3 times trying to get student discount on my orignal order but they where unable to even get near my orignal price, it would seem that adding the blue-ray reduced my price, very strange, just been on the dell student site and cant even get that price on there, very strange

I'm getting a new Dell Studio 1555 (a replacement actually since the first one had issues) I just read about Windows 7 releasing on 22nd Oct.
Does anyone know if we'll be getting a free upgrade to W7 from Vista on the Studio 1555? I tried asking the sales rep but he didnt know anything about it

Ah good, so they pushed it back?

If I didn't need a laptop right now, I would have waited for the free Windows 7 upgrade.

I am buying notebook. I am taking 2 models under my consideration:
Lenovo Y530 and Dell Studio 1555.
I would like to get know about speakers in Dell Studio 1555? Are they ok or maybe like in Dell Studio 1537?

The 1555's sound considerably better than the old 1537. The 1555 has a built in subwoofer. I do not know how it compares to a Lenovo Y530 though.

Hi, Can anyone help me, I have the new 1555, sometimes I use the headphone jack at night as I listen to music, I am using my iPod earbud and plugged them into the audio jack on the side, my problem is the volume is too loud, I turned my volume control all the way down to only 1 bar and the volume is still so loud with headphones. I looked in the speaker settings but can't find any other volume control for the headphone jack other than the main volume button F8 and F9.

Well after seeing about the 6% student discount i tried to get my order changed, they said that i would have to cancel and reorder, i was happy to do this, but when they went to reorder they said i could not use 2 sets of discounts, after speaking to 3 sales people i found one willing to help, he said that he could not see a way to stack discounts and the the best price on the orignal order was about £680 this was the order with DVD, he then cam back and said he had found a cheaper option and that was to add blu-ray, of course i was happy to do this, strange that adding a £100 option drops the price that much

just been on the student site and best price with out the backlit keyboard is around £725, so i am more that happy with my price :)

My shipment came in on May 31st and included the A06 BIOS update, not sure what the improved user experience of the function key means.

On a side note, are anyone's ASDFG keys louder than the others??

^^ U were using WDD drive? I hate the idea of someone opening up the product. Its not even one month since i got it on my hands. This is the only fact which is preventing me from opting for another HDD.

yes, it's a Western Digital. And I'm gonna change the HDD myself. They asked me if I wanted someone to come change it for me or if I think I can do it myself. And since I have assembled several PCs in my life of course I'll do it myself ;)

Does your WD also have the clicking or why do you wanna change it?

No, it's soldered to the motherboard, in the case of the ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4570, or integrated into the chipset if it's the Intel 4500MHD. To change graphics cards you would have to swap the entire motherboard.

I've ordered mine with the basic 1397. I want to buy an Intel 5300, but I've found 2 types: full size and half size.
Which one is good for it?
Edit: Found the answer from the service manual: half size. :D

One other question...will I have the third cable installed?

Idle hovers around 50 deg. C or less depending on where you are at. It's rather warm here right now.
The hottest I've ever seen it get is 66 deg C. after pulling an all nighter and beating Crysis.

    Edit:
I'm going to try out the Dawn of War 2 demo and see how it runs.

Mikebuzz - thanks, i did look at those but it doesnt show what is accessible under the panel. I am guessing a complete strip to upgrade the cpu looking at the instructions

why didnt they make it easier?
It was simple on my old Asus: turn it around, unscrew 2 screews for the cpu cover, unscrew 4 screews to remove the heat sink and pull the lever to take the cpu out of the socket. Done.

Asus machines are generally made for performance, and so they probably optimized the design to facilitate swapping high-performance parts, like the processor. The Dell Studio series are meant to be mainstream media machines, and the processor isn't supposed to be user-swappable, since the average user of a Studio laptop isn't too concerned with extreme aftermarket processor performance.

For what it's worth, though, it's easy as pie on the 1535/1537. Just take off the bottom panel, unscrew the heatsink, and release the processor latch. :p

So coming back here to check on the Studio and new stuff... my laptop is supposed to ship soon after experiencing a delay to June 11. Could Dell possibly delay this further? I am going to call a final time this Thursday if I don't see any changes to my status... I would still like some comments to anyone who has experienced delays for over a month and what I could do.

    To ninja2000:

Dawn of War 2 Singleplayer Demo is playable at 1600x900 at medium with my configuration, but I have not played it long enough to feel confident of that.

1280x720 should be able to run this game fine judging by the performance, but I was unable to get the game running on high satisfactorily at 1280x720 or higher.

I've just uploaded a video demonstration here, but it is still being processed so it might take a few hours for the HD version to pop up:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a9k0blZS-4

I hope that is good enough for now, I'm a little strapped for time at the moment.

But if it is playable at 1600x900 even on low I would have been happy so I am definately geting this laptop now :)

yeah definately, I am just getting it with the cheap 4200 option which will be ripped out ASAP.

I am currently trying to decide on screen res, there is a choice of 1366 and 1920, did you notice any image loss when you dropped the game from your native res to 1280?

PS just watched your vids, looks awesome :)

Contrast, brightness and viewing angles on the 1366 X 768 screen are average at best, according to Notebookjournal's measurements.

Better go for hi res options. Not sure if they are better though.
