Dell Studio 1555, *Part 2*

This is fraudulent, it is installing paid for software that you have not paid for. I strongly suggest you stop discussing this on these forums; you will certainly get no help from us on here on this matter.

 

me too as well i was just curious as to why thery did not have any..

 

when i clean installed vista, the wireless wasnt working until i installed the driver off the website. in windows 7 it worked straight away so theres probably no need for them unless they offered additional functionality (which i presume they dont)

I am new here but I have been reading the Forum for quite some time. I Ordered my Windows 7 Upgrade on 22/10/09 at 3:14:06 AM - (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada).

I have only had the first E-Mail from Dell about the Order Confirmation but I have not had the one about shipping Confirmation.

On the website under Status bits it only has these filled in:
Order Number, Date Ordered, Estimated Ship Date, which is 30/10/09 Description and Service Tag

All the rest are all blank, has anyone else have the same thing happen to them?

i havent received my upgrade disc yet either. i ordered at 1 AM PST on 10/22 and my order status has changed every time i checked it. the other day it said the estimated ship date was 10/29. now, the estimated shipping date is blank and it says "ordered" under the status column.

Thank you for replying back to me I have just had a look at mine just now and it is doing the same as your is Ie estimated shipping date is blank and it says "ordered" under the status column.

I paid for mine and had the same issue, no order status, no estimated dispatch, no tracking number etc. but I received it a few days ago. I would say if you haven't got it by the end of this week, give them a ring to see if someone will tell you the status of the order.

Where are you from that you had to pay for the upgrade?

Also I ordered mine on the 25th, it was shipped the 30th and its due to arrive today. That's about 7 business days.

 

I also had to pay I am in the UK I had to pay £15.

 

Yay, my Windows 7 upgrade was "out to be delivered" today at 8 AM, most likely it will be there by the time i get home from University (or is already there). Haven't charged me a cent for it.

Just orderd me a Dell Studio 15 with 15.6" wled screen 1920*1080
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700
ATI HD4570
6144 mb DDR 2 memory
500 gb HDD
9 Cell Battery

Does somone have this combination ? And can tell me how long battery
life I can expect?
And, is there much noise from the fan ? Read som tests on a site where they said that the fan is running all the time, and I wonder if it makes much noice that it can be a problem?

Looking forward to get the computer, and my old Inspiron 6400 finally can rest

 

this is getting pretty ridiculous. now my estimated shipping date changed to november 15th. im gonna send them an email to see whats going on.

Thanks for the advice on reinstalling the sound drivers - seems to be working fine now!

A note about updating drivers: make sure to delete the C:\dell\drivers folder before you extract an updated version. Seems I was not doing this and instead it was actually installing the Vista version!

Hey buddies, I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my Dell Studio 1555..

please help me in the followin:

1. IDT HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO CODEC driver which gets uninstalled on each boot but then recovers on solving problems...WANT A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THIS...

2.I enabled password on boot, but after some boots it strts booting without password...I tried reinstallin the BIOS, but it also din help...

3. I wanna enable virtualization, please help me...(i flashed my BIOS once)
so ans me accordingly...

Can i really downgrade from A07 to A06?

Does A07 has some advantages? as in graphics n all?

Will it brick my laptop if I downgrade?

Can some1 give me A06 Drivers fro Dell STUDIO 1555 LAPTOP WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE (32-bit)?

 

What kind of processor are you using? Not all of them allow virtualization.

 

Nothing bad will happen, you can downgrade the BIOS. I don't know why you would want to, though; they update these things for a reason. :/

actually I wanna use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7...

Orderd my Studio 15 on Sunday 2.11.09, today the 5.11.09 the computer has been deliverd to Schenker.
But I didtn get any mail, so I had to contact Dell support to get info.

So 4 days is not bad.

The T6600 doesn't allow for Virtualization, which is why it isn't shown in the BIOS.

Think that it wierd that somone has to wait so long for the Studio laptop and somone dont have to wait at all.

And i wonder if there is someone else that didnt get any mail when the laptop was ready and sent ? I didnt get any mail after det first one.

Btw...Anyone having problem with their Sound driver in Windows 7?
Whenever I restart my system It shows a red cross on my volume button on taskbar and shows:
"No speaker/headphones found."

And when I click on FIX IT ,it the sound come back after restoration and installs..
"IDT HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO CODEC" driver

but I want a permanent solution, pls help me...

Also I purchased Creative sound blaster with my lappy..I installed it on my laptop too..but now when i go to control panel,and select creative control centre...it says "The audio device supported by this hardware not found"

Also in my Control Panel>sounds>
In HDMI Digital output, it says ATI HDMI Output Not plugged in

 

Has anyone who has done a clean install of windows 7 been able to get Dell Quickset working? it says that its imcompatible even though im downloading it from under the windows 7 drivers page.. I dont get it?

 

try deleting the c:\dell\drivers folder to make sure any existing versions of the drivers are definitely removed, then try again/

 

Also Im guessing they have discontinued the t6500 processor as its not on any of the new windows 7 machines.. but it barely bench marks lower than the new t6600 that replaces it

 

The Dell Driver Downloads page for Studio 1555 still doesn't have Windows 7 32 Bit listed. I tried editing the url for Windows 7 64 bit by replacing W764 with W732 and it seems that is the appropriate page.

Its still a work in progress and doesn't have some of the drivers (webcam being the significant one). Following is the link:

I just used the disc's from vista to install the webcam software and such and then I also installed the Facial Recognition software from the disc and all has been well... The facial recognition has been a little slower to load though on windows 7 but the webcam software and drivers all worked...
On my GF's toshiba on the other hand, i cant even get the web cam to start up and toshiba has no drivers together.. you'd think that this was a long enough time for OEM's to get there stuff together..

 

i think toshiba is having problems getting their drivers ready as mentioned here:

Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative web cam software? I downloaded the dell stuff, but not sure I really want to re-install it

 

I actually like the dell software and all the little stupid stuff you can do with it... it was better than anything that came on my gf's Toshiba and my Old Acer....

i did look into other web cam software but none really caught my eye

I ask again, what does people think of the fan noise on Studio 1555? With ATI HD 4570 and Core 2 Duo P8700 ? Does the fan go all the time?

mine doesnt,.. I rarely ever hear mine.... Fan that is

 

nope stays silent. you actually have to listen for it to tell that its there

 

On my system the fan comes on frequently, even with a minor load, and is moderately loud. Also the trackpad and bottom of computer gets warm, not hot, just warm. I'm wondering if other folks have this experience or if I should return the system as I'm still in the 21 day window. I've got a Studio 1555 w/ aT4300 and 4GB RAM

I received my Dell Studio 1555 as a Complete Care replacement for my Inspiron 6400 today.

I'm quite surprised Dell did away with all the LED light indicators such as wireless, hard drive activity, dell media direct button, reduction of USB slots to 2, and there's too much flex in the bottom chasis. At least with the 6400 chasis, you could bang it around a little and not worry about flex or cracking.

 

You better call Dell!!! They forgot to install one of your USB ports!!

That's my a-hole way of saying there are three USB ports on a Studio. Two on the left side (one is an eSATA/USB combo) and one on the right side under the optical drive.

Whats the point in having an LED for WLAN when you can see it in the System Tray? Most people leave it on all the time anyway. I'm glad there's no light or physical switch. They're annoying. I can understand missing the HDD light though...

Also I've seen YouTube videos of ridiculous chassis flex, but I can't reproduce it on mine. Mine is rock solid. I can make my keyboard flex if I put a lot of pressure around the J but the rest is fine. If I pick it up by the edges and twist it stays solid.

The reason for I ask i that i read a test where they said that the fan was on all the time, and it was quite noicy. Is there one thing I dont like on a laptop, then it is a noicy fan. My Inspirion 6400 is quite good on this, I have to consentrate to hear the fan when it is on and it is not on so often.

But I`m looking forward to get the system now

 

I love the design of the Studio 15 and im glad for its minimalism.... I think its a nice looking machine especially with the EDGE to EDGE display that makes it look alot more expensive. I do hate how the black bezel around the keyboard is easy to scratch though...
Will dell sell me a new black Bezel?

Also, this is more because im a complulsive but does anyone know where to get a windows 7 OEM Sticker?

EDIT*** Nevermind I actually bought a few windows 7 badges for around 7 bucks on ebay... as well as an ATI badge that I am not sure if i will even use...

 

The may sell you the black bezel as a sparepart. But it`s not for free. I think Dell is expensive on spare parts.

 

yea I have no problem paying for it.. It was pretty expensive to upgrade to the Backlit keyboard after the purchase, but im hoping that black bezel its too expensive If i wanted it...

 

one day i was randomly mashing keys on my laptop and found that pressing h, j and k at the same time turns on/off the keyboard backlight, does anyone elses laptop do this?

 

Does the backlight keyboard come as standard on Studio laptop, or is this something that must be buyed after?
