Helpful helpful wiki especially for the obsessive refresh-pressing type ;)

Am wondering when my UK Dell Studio 1537 might be expected to arrive-- I ordered it on the 31st March at 2AM or something insane like that, and it cleared processing and pre-production on the same day... now has been "In Production" for quite a while (obviously well within the ESD but not within my own obsessive expectation), and I was wondering how the process is different in the UK..

All I have to go on is:

Phase 1 Order Processing Your order has completed this phase.
Phase 2 Pre-Production Your order has completed this phase.
Phase 3 In Production Your order is in this phase.
Phase 4 Delivery Preparation Ink cartridges and other small items are sent by post.
Laptops, desktops and other large items are delivered by our delivery partner.
Phase 5 Delivery You will be able to track the order with our delivery partner.

Which is very little to say the least! I've phoned the CS line but the woman on the other end was very useful and wouldn't tell me ANYTHING the website didn't mention.. not how long it usually takes, not things like upgrades that might affect the duration of the process, nothing.

So I thought I'd post specs here and ask whether you guys think I really have until the 17th April to wait!

    Ordered 31st March:

    Intel Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz)
    4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
    Internal English Qwerty Backlit Keyboard
256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450
500GB (5400RPM) Serial ATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 - English
    Blu-Ray ROM Drive (read/write CD/DVD & read Blu-Ray Disc)
    Intel WiFi Link 5100 (802.11 a/b/g/n 1X2) 1/2 MiniCard
1 Meter Power Cord (3 Wire) - UK
    English - Documentation Studio 1537
    1Yr Limited Warranty - Collect & Return
4Yr In-Home Warranty Support, including evenings and Saturdays
    No Mobile Broadband Selected
    Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module
Primary 6-cell 56 WHr Lithium Ion battery
    No Carrying Case
Studio 1537 Resource DVD (Diagnostic & Drivers)
2.0 Mega pixel Integrated Web Camera
Jet Black Colour with Matte Finish
    No Accidental Damage Support
DataSafe Online Backup 2GB 1 year
    Travel Remote Control Express Card
Wireless Label (Intel Wireless Cards) - Core 2 Duo
    15.4" Widescreen WUXGA+ CCFL (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife™
    Microsoft® Works 9.0 / English - (Does not include Microsoft® Word)
    No Security/Anti-Virus Protection - English
    90W AC Adaptor
    No security option selected

And before anyone lays into me for going for the 1920 x 1200 CCFL:

I know. I know. My eyes will pay for it...

Oh and sorry for being metric :(

9th April and feels like I've been waiting FOREVER but I finally cleared the In Production stage and am now in "Delivery Preparation"!

Which I'm told may take up to 7 days. Sigh.......

Just thought I'd add to the mix here. So far I would say my system seems to be on track (see sig). However, I did order when they had a great deal going on for the Studio XPS 16, so that might delay things.

Glad to have found the 800 number in post #1! Since today was the first day I called, I'm not sure how long it has been in the build stage.

    I'll keep you posted.

Grat's on your order..your ESD is 4/29? The Automated Dial seem's to update usually overnight..as does the online order status.

I've always trusted Automated Dial vs. Online.
You can always, call a Rep too, to get current up to date info :D
I did that alot, and didn't feel guilty at all! :)

Well, I am hopeful that it will get delivered before the EDD, as the 800 number said the ESD is April 22. And based on that, since I have 3-5 day shipping, it should arrive no later than the 27th. Cool.

It's usually not that long if it's in this stage...meaning its being prepared for shipment. I would try the Automated Dial Number in the morning, and you should be able to get the latest and greatest on this. ;)

Or, you can also speak directly with a Rep for the latest update!

Good luck..and think soon...it will be in your hands!

You're right actually, because later on that day (the 12th) it changed to delivery. Although, the site says that it entered the delivery stage on the 13th, which is probably more realistic estimate for when it actually started the whole delivery process. Hopefully it'll get here on Friday.

Also, is it possible to get the delivery without the delivery firm phoning ye up?

Okay, my online status for the new Vostro 1720 shows 'In production'. I called the status number and it says "In Process". Do I need to speak to a rep to get the detailed status, or will that update to the Kitting, Build, etc. on the automated update?

    Hey there,

Ok, if you want *precise*..detailed info..call and speak with a Rep.
If you want current info...dial the Automated (as you have done) :)
If you want just the basics..check your online via your account with Dell :D

For some reason...Online and Automated seem to differ sometimes, that is why I rely on a Rep to give me detailed info', along with an e-mailed Case Number ~ as confirmation of our conversation!

And here I was looking at my tracking and it showed it was already in Reno last night. I was thinking it would be here (Vegas) today. Then it took a left turn and went to Sacramento! Ack, you were already in NV damn you, come back! :0

Looks like Monday, but I was hoping it would have been here today given the Reno thing.

Nothing like getting the new laptop right before the weekend when I have the actual time to flush and reload the OS. No time during the week between work, gym, kids, etc.

Yep, came from the magic box delivery people yesterday.

It stared at me from across my office all day, taunting me.

Had enough time to do a powerup and 'all working' check yesterday night. As well as give my wife a chance to see what her new laptop will be like (once I am done with the clear, reinstall and optimize that is).

Quite nice thus far. Never owned a laptop this big before. I've always been about 'small for easy carrying' due to all the travel I used to do. D6XX and D4XX laptops for work when I had the option (as well as my newest 'refurb' M1330, which is just peachy). Have to admit it seems to make a nice desktop replacement with the big screen and dedicated numerics pad.

Wow the Australian Dell order tracking page is quite crap - no detail whatsover. Only has "order received", "work in progress", "manufacturing build complete", "ship from factory", "arrive in Australia", "with local courier" and "delivered".

My order (made on 2009-05-29 @ night; received 2009-06-01) has been "work in progress" for like 4 days now and I don't even know where exactly in the "work in progress" stage it is up to! GAH!

EDIT: Finally they updated and now I can expect it on or before 11-June

Anyone else's order in the "In production" stage under My Account and "Order Processing" on the phone status??

Does the phone status still go thru the various stages (build, testing, etc)??

I've found this to be true as well. I'm not sure what's the most accurate: the phone, online, or customer service

    What i can say is:
    my online status: "in production"
    Automated phone status: "order processing"
    dell online chat: "pre-processing"
    Customer service: "pre-processing"

So, for now I'd say the customer service reps and online chat people can give you the most detail, especially since the automated phone service and online status check don't seem to go into the subcategories anymore.

If you want the best, accurate information..it's always better to talk with a Dell Rep! You get latest up-to-date information, and confirmation by a Case Number that can be e-mailed to you.

Dell Chat, can do the same thing..but I prefer verbal information! ;)

Yes, that's nice! But a Rep, can give you the best, information..

And, if your speaking with them regarding the status/or possible delays/slowness of your order, there is a good chance you can get them to upgrade your shipping, as such.

Yes, they did this for me twice..when my orders were on delay.

It can depend on the Rep/situation..but if you ask for an upgrade in shipping, they can do that for you. I believe, it's all in the conversation, and how both sides treat each other.

Hi i guess i'm just a new addition to an old thread, but I too am an expecting dell customer that checks his order status every morning and evening xD

I ordered mine 16/06/09, it stated my estimated deliver was 07/07/09
    It entered pre-production 17/06/09
    It was in production 21/06/09
    And it entered Delivery 27/06/09

To be honest I'm not happy with Dell, i rang them up and they never reveal how long on average the different phases take.. just give you an "up to" which is incredibly long and inaccurate. Maybe I'm just being impatient but their lack of giving me a true date i think has brought this upon me.

Just wondering, it entered delivery on Saturday soo will it take longer for me than other people because yesterday it was sunday and not a working day?

Just a quick update... I've been on to dell today on the phone(08709060010) to try and get my tracking number. i got put through to the same guy twice and he was very rude and kept telling me "there is no way to track an order" when dell's website says differently.. so i kept saying that to him and he rudely said to me "ok well you can go and deal with that then" and just remained silent... and wouldn't talk to me anymore... he hadn't hanged up though. RUDE PEOPLE. anyway i did manage to get the name of the courier out of him. "syncreon" which is walsh western but they changed their name.

So i rang them up(08719873355) and they told me that they hadn't received it yet and dell haven't sent it yet otherwise they would have it... but they said the delay could be due to it being sent from china or poland :S they seemed very nice and efficient and told me they'll ring me the minute they get it so i'm happy. :) and then once they have it, it only takes a day :p

So I ordered a Studio XPS 16 on Monday (6/29) and as of today the order status online says "In Production". However, when I call the automated service, it says the order is still being processed. Is it normal for it to be still processing after 3 days?

    Hey!
Dell online status vs. automated dial, usually are not in sync... :(

I believe the *still being processed* means it's in the Production stage.

Call a Customer Service Rep, and they can give you exact specifics as to where your order is.

I just ordered 2 mice, and a new camera from Dell. And, I had a similar situation with Online vs. Automated Dial. A Rep, was able to confirm exactly where my orders were, and even bumped the shipping on the Camera for me! :) Be sure to get the Case Number, e-mailed to you with Rep contact information.

You can also try it this way:
    • Dial 1-800-283-2210
    • (Dell DPA phone number, but you will be given *prompt* choices to get you to the Order Status System:
    • Then click Option 3
    • Select your purchase or your system option: I did #2, (since it was an EPP purchase)
    • Track the Order Option #1
    • Repeat one more time: Track Order Option #1
    • Then, simply input your Order Number.

Now, I did this for my Camera, and it said it was enroute to the Carrier...I already have the Tracking Number!
So the old system is still 94.9% accurate!

    :)

    Cin ;) :)
