still EDD of 8/10 but I have no tracking # and my status remains the same - "In Production" and "Delivery Preparation"...
-
-
bizarre and confusing:
- last Wed my order on the website said Delivery Prep and it stayed that way until today at Noon EST.
- last Wed (Aug 5th) the 800 number said my order was shipped Aug 7th. Over the weekend, the 800 number said my order shipped Aug 7th.
The entire time my EDD remained Aug 10.
Today at Noon EST, the website changed to Shipped and provided me a Fedex tracking #. The shipment was initiated 8/5 and supposedly shipped 8/7 but still, the Fedex site only says that "Shipment information was sent to Fedex" on Aug 5th, no other info besides that.
Still don't understand how it will be at my door tomorrow, but whatever. Really stupid and confusing job by Dell. -
That is interesting.
My only guess is that they "signed off" on the computer on 8/5 but the Fedex truck hasn't been by to pick it up yet. Sometimes shipments have to wait until a palette is filled before the service comes by to pick them.
I hope your computer comes tomorrow! -
I got mine! It came on Saturday (8/7), 3 days before my EDD. This order was fulfilled quicker then I've ever even heard of. Just to recap...
8/2 10:00pm - Ordered custom laptop from dell.com (7-day shipping)
8/3 - Status listed as In Production
8/4 - Status listed as "Delivery Preparation" on one page, "In Production" on another
8/6 noon-ish - Status changed to shipped, got FedEx Tracking number
8/7 2:45pm - Package arrived at my house (southern Pennsylvania)
That is absolutely crazy. I think it might be a record or something.
------
kgriffin6979, my FedEx tracking number read the same way. I got the tracking number on Friday (8/6) but when I click on it all FedEx said was that they received the shipping information on 8/4. Then Saturday (8/7) I checked it and it said it was on the truck for delivery to my house! Very weird, but I'm just happy I got it. -
yeah, now it says it's in a Fedex facility very close:
Aug 9, 2010 7:35 PM Arrived at FedEx location KEASBEY, NJ
Aug 9, 2010 Picked up KEASBEY, NJ
Aug 5, 2010 4:10 AM Shipment information sent to FedEx
I know I'll get it tomorrow now. Still really confusing - when did it ship? Aug 5th? Aug 7th? How did it get picked up in NJ today out of nowhere? Just bizarre!
Anyway, I hope yours is a keeper and I hope my is worth the wait! -
It did arrive on EDD - still don't like the way they give out info, but it arrived when promised.

I have had it with Dell!
Got a call on Friday saying that my laptop will be here today. When the Fedex person came and went, I noticed that he wasn't carrying a Dell case with him. So I called Dell Customer Care. Don't know why because they can't do squat except upgrade shipping.
Today, I let them know that they were supposed to ship this on July 29th (before I placed the order) then they changed the date to 8/20. After I called them on it, they said that they will get me free next day shipping. So instead of the 20th, I get the 18th. Whoopie-fricken-doo!
After I explained to them my frustrations, they tell me that my laptop will get here "no later than" 8/23! Last week they told me that my video card was delayed but now they can't even tell me what is delayed. When I asked to talk to a supervisor, he gave me $50 credit. While I would always appreciate free credit, I wanted to talk to the supervisor. So I asked again but he refused to get me to talk to the supervisor. So he apologized and we ended the call. So ticked right now...
I am formulating a letter to Dell-Round Rock. If I can't be heard in India, then maybe I will be heard in Texas. I would cancel my order, but then I would be losing out on a great deal and would have to wait longer with other companies. This sucks. -
Why don't you wait until the 20th before anything since that was the promised date?
-
The promised date was 7/29. 8/20 was thrown at me AFTER I bought the computer.
Just sent out five letters to the head financial officers of Dell Inc, including Michael Dell. I doubt anything will change but I thought it was worth a shot. -
Yes, I read your posts. I meant to say you should've waited until 8/20, but I guess it doesn't really matter at this point.
The waiting game is pretty common with Dell. I had to wait for over a month to receive my Alienware because they ran OOS of keyboard and mice. They even asked me to cancel my order 3 times. -
My issue is not that I have to wait. It's Dell. They can't do anything fast. But it is the fact that they told me one thing to buy the computer and then told me something completely different after I place the order. That is dishonesty and it shouldn't be that way. The chief operating officers need to know about this because their employees at ground level don't care.
-
Well, I cancelled my order. It got pushed to 9/1. I decided to check out other retailers and I still couldn't beat Dell. I ordered:
Studio 15 Jet Black
Intel Core i5 450m 2.4-2.66Ghz
6 GB Ram - 500 GB 7200 RPM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 1 GB
Windows 7 Home Premium
Got it for only 8 bucks more than my Studio 14. And it should be shipping on the same day too. -
Did they give you a discount or something since your previous order was delayed? Did you opt for a FHD screen? The spec looks good otherwise.
-
I got an extra $50. I was unable to get anything faster than 7 day shipping. I stuck with the 720 p because the difference didn't bother me. Hope this computer ships fast - and I hope I can be more patient!
-
Are you sure you got extra $50? They might deduct $50 from your original purchase amount. I agree they owe you an apology for delaying your order.
-
Yeah, they deducted it from my original amount. It was like a coupon per se.
-
So does the Studio 14 ship later because it's not in high demand compared to the Studio 15? Usually during the back to school rush (I heard it's the 2nd busiest time for them) would laptops be produced faster or be backed up?
1st order: 8/16 EDD: 9/15 (Now canceled)
Re-ordered: 8/18 EDD: 9/17 -
Did you order the studio 14? Mine was delayed because of the 512 mb video card. There may have been something else too, but they wouldn't tell me. My studio 15 is configured with the 1 gb video card so I am hoping that there isn't a delay on that.
As for how they move during this time of the year... I think they are moving at snail's pace. They are swamped and I think ill prepared. If they weren't they wouldn't be running out of parts. IMO. -
For kicks and giggles, I called up Dell and asked for free next day shipping since I canceled a delayed order and then placed a new order and they gave it to me. It was a "one-time exception" of course!
As of now, there are no delays on any of my parts. -
Just FYI, I have always gotten everything before Dell's expected arrival date, a couple of times by over a week, and I wasn't ordering pre-built systems. They've pushed back the date on my stuff before, but I don't know why because it was never actually delayed. You probably should have just waited instead of freaking out about them playing around with the delivery date. I am sure it is all computers doing those calculations but they are often wrong and for me at least have always been far too conservative in the 8 or so orders I've placed with Dell since last July.
-
-
I think my luck has changed...
Placed the order on Tuesday, checked my status today on the site and it says "delivery preparation" in the my account page but in the order page it still says "order processing." Then I called up the order status line and they say my order has shipped on 8/26 and will arrive on 8/30 (with next day shipping). Huh?
I assuming that my package will ship soon but I am still dumbfounded. -
i ordered mine the 13th and mine is in boxing but its an alienware
i have one day shipping also -
-
possibly..it might ship tomorrow most likely it will ship for you tomorrow and if your lucky you will get it saturday on dell im in PRODUCTION which is lame cause if i ordered today i would get my lappy the 30th the same time when i oordered the 13th -
If I got a Saturday delivery from Dell, I would be absolutely floored. Not putting my hopes up, but it would be sweet.
With these lightening fast times, it makes me feel bad about the trashing I have been giving dell. If laptop is as great as it seems, dell will have me back again. -
Delivery prep means your order is enroute to your local shipper. When it gets picked up you will see it is already located in your city. Fedex will not deliver it on Saturday unless Dell had specially arranged it for(it's an expensive option that is not included in the standard overnight shipping).
-
If it is in my city, that would be great. If they try to deliver on Saturday, no one will be at my place of employment and I would be 2 hours away for the weekend. So I would be unable to get it.
-
Dell has updated their system to show that computer has shipped. It still has a delivery of the 25th. Their definition of next day baffles me. Oh well. Just glad that I am getting my laptop at a timely manner.

Go to Global Homepage
Then, top Tab > Track > Track By Reference > Your Reference # is your Order Number, > Leave the Ship Date as is > Destination Country is US > Destination Postal Code is your Zip Code!, > Click Track!
And, it will give any availi' information!
Here is the Direct Link for Fed Ex Tracking ^^

Nothing seems reasonable when one's in a hurry.
-
Thanks for the tip! I am not sure what it means, but it says that my shipping information was sent to FedEx a couple days ago. As of now, that is all that has happened. I am sure (at least hoping) that I learn some more after midnight tonight or tomorrow morning.
-
Does your tracking number say overnight shipping? It will get updated once it's picked up by Fedex.
For example:
Aug 10, 2010 2:11 PM Shipment information sent to FedEx
Aug 10, 2010 3:56 PM Picked up
Aug 10, 2010 5:28 PM Left FedEx origin facility -
It doesn't say. All I know is that I have Next Business Day Shipping.
And all it says is that Shipment information sent to FedEx -
Ok... this is getting frustrating. Shipment information was received by FedEx on the 20th but it still has to be picked up. I am hoping that the lack of updates is because it was the weekend and there are serious delays in the process. FedEx has an estimated delivery of tomorrow but Dell website says the 25th. Anyone wanna place bets on which date it will be?
-
-
I hope you're right. So far you are batting over .500!
-
How'd it go? Did you receive the system?
-
Nope. FedEx was notified by Dell on Friday. They picked it up yesterday in Chicago. It left Chicago and went past me (I'm in St. Louis) and is now in Memphis. My EDD went from today to tomorrow. Kind of a letdown but not a big deal at all. Especially since I am getting this system a lot faster than the other one I just cancelled.
I assume that Dell shipped it from out of the country on Friday and it was available for pickup by FedEx on Monday. -
So you finally getting your machine tomorrow. Congrats! You waited long enough.
-
After returning my Vostro 3700, I ordered an XPS 16 on 8/14. Initial EDD was 8/25. By the time I get my confirmation email, it's 8/30 EDD. I had 3-5 day shipping, and my order was still in pre-production on 8/25. I called order support (which is annoying, since the menu is clearly for sales as they don't even mention order support). They told me they couldn't see any reason for the hold up but that they could transfer me to the cancellation and reorder dept (which is a bizarre name for a dept).
I spoke to someone there who told me it was just a glitch and that I would see my order status change within a day. So I waited and sure enough, it changed - to a EDD of 9/10 and still in pre-production . I called back the next day (8/26) and was again sent to the cancellation and reorder dept. I asked them why my laptop was still in pre-production. I was told the CPU was the issue (i5-450m). Anyway, the guy I spoke to told me he has put in a request for my order to be a higher priority, and he also upgraded me to next business day delivery which was pretty decent of him. Shortly after the call, my status changed to In Production. I also could have sworn he told me I'd still get it on 8/30.
Anyway, here we are at the end of the day in the US on 8/30 and my status is still In Production and my EDD is still 9/10. I just called order support to find out a more detailed status. Maybe I got a new person who had no idea what they were doing, but they put me on hold for a few minutes and when they came back I was given the same info I can see on the website - In Prod, 9/10 EDD. Gee, thanks.
Do I have to call Cancellation and Reorder Dept to get the "real" status?
Edit to add: on 8/31 I call the order status # and it tells me the laptop "has" (of course what they mean is "will") shipped on Sept 7th. So how shocked was I to find that I was sent a shipped email later in the day. Laptop arrived today. Again, kudos to Dell but I don't understand why we need to be kept in the dark until the last moment. -
First post of this forum mentions different stages like Kitting, Boxing etc. Does customer care still tell us about these stages?
My order is "In Production" stage, and customer care is not able to give any further details about the order.
Update:
Just after posting it, status was changed to "Shipped". Should have it day after tomorrow
Had ordered it on 25th. This was fast. -
I ordered a Studio 17 with i7 720QM 1.6GHz processor, full hd screen, 4gb of RAM, 1GB ATI Video, 500GB 7200RPM Drive on August 19th. Scheduled delivery date was 9/3/10 and was later switched to 9/10/10. Can anyone tell me from recent experience does Dell keep that second date or have they been moving those dates later too? If they have been moving what time did you wait for your Studio 17?
Thank You. -
i'm in delivery prep (dell rep stated boxing) and it should be shipped in 24-48 hours...not bad considering i just ordered my laptop on tuesday (the 31st).
-
So who wants to guess when my laptop will get here..Fedex ground says 9/8 but it's still in Memphis, TN since last Friday 1:03pm. Dell est. delivery date is 9/10. For the free shipping it said it would take 5-7 days but is it possible for it to get to California earlier than that? Probability that Fedex will not meet delivery date? I'm lamenting that because today is Labor Day, it's not a business day so I feel like it's been delayed by a day >__<.
---
So it's still in Memphis. I don't think it's going to get here tomorrow : ( -
Hello all.. okay, guess I am one of many to join in the Dell waiting game!!
I placed my order for a Studio 17 on 8/19 and was given an EDD of 9/6. This order was then cancelled.
New order entered (not by me!!) with a date of 8/20 and an EDD of 9/6. This order was then cancelled again.
Another new order entered 8/25 with an EDD of 9/30.
Should I be expecting this to be cancelled yet again? Anyone else have this issue? Not sure if I should panic or be patient. I just want to know if I should be doing something else and if I should be calling them to find out WTH they are doing and why they cancelled it twice other than to make it look better on them with an earlier order date. I could just be being impatient but after reading some other people's horror stories I'm scared!!
-D -
There must be something that's in back order? I think if you call and complain about the cancellations and the extended wait period that you should get an expedited ship date. I believe that happened to some people. I try not to deal with the customer rep as much as possible though :/ since I'm not a verbal person.
I ordered a Studio 14 on 8/18 and with an original EDD on 9/17 but it got bumped up to 9/10. (Fedex says that I should get it tomorrow hopefully).
Funny thing was I hoping for an earlier delivery and a UPS guy knocked on my door in the afternoon and said that there were 5 packages. I was confused because 1) I was expecting Fedex and 2) 5 packages?! I asked "Are you sure?" It was for my apartment mate. -
Hope you get your order when they quoted then Night Rain!! Would have been frustrating opening the door and receiving someone else's package while you're still waiting on your own though!
So I took your advice and tried to call, but I'm too nice to be able to cause a fuss but was told that my 9/30 delivery date was the worst case scenario date. She claimed that it will be shipped in the next 2-3 days as it is in the late stages of production, so we will see!! -
Oh.. forgot to mention in my previous post, I also questioned why the original then the order the re-entered were both cancelled and re-entered. She could not find any reason. She thought it may have been because there was duplicate orders but when I advised her the dates, she said "uh, than I'm not sure why but it does not show any specific reason why they were cancelled".. Am I surprised? Not in the least, but will be happy once I get my order as long as it works fine that is!!
