Placed my order for a 1558 a couple days ago, estimated ship date.... 5/5/10. Seems a little much but for the price I can't complain much.

I am so mad at dell... i ordered a laptop on 13th april... they were talking their sweet time to process the order... so i call them and they tell me that the order was on hold... no1 told me about it... i verify the order and it moves into production stage... then suddenly on 22 april, the online status says that it has been canceled... I call them and they give the stupidest of reasons... mine is a studio 15... and the back design I had selected (from one of the option they presented me) is not compatible with the studio 15 series... at this point, I had wasted 2 weeks, and didnt want to waste more time... so I tell them change the design to mid night blue... and they place my order again from the beginning... now my estimated time is 14th may...
btw, you have to be proactive while dealing with dell... I called them on 23 april.. and again found that my order was on hold and had it cleared... they never call (or email) you and tell if something is wrong -
The following is my order status changes (U.S.):
4/19: ordered (EDD: 5/4)
4/19: In Production
4/22: In Production - Boxing Stage
4/24: Shipped (EDD: 4/27, see attachment)
The order status page is not showing the tracking number. I've read other people never got tracking number even until their packages arrived. I wanted to call CSR and get it, but all of the offices are closed since it's Saturday now.
Is there any way I could get tracking number, or should I just wait until Monday and call Dell?
Thank you!Attached Files:

If you have your Order Number, and it shipped Fed Ex, you may be able to get your Tracking Number/Status:
Go this Route:
www.fedex.com > Track > Track By Reference > Enter Reference ( Enter Your Order Number) > Ship Date > (as is) > Destination Country > US or... > Destination Postal Code > Ship Zip! > Track
Direct Link to above
Good luck!

Update*******
Took delivery at 4pm. exactly 6 days after ordering over phone with Dell Agent concerning Web Choice.
Am updating Win7 Home to Ultimate and the cooling fan is quiet.
Still not comfortable with the giant 17" size of this big metal laptop.
It actually sort of looks like a HP laptop.
Free ground shipping is the way to go.
Can't beat the 6 days over the weekend and free 7 day ground shipping.
Good Luck to everybody. -

I didn't pay for shipping and they're sending it by purolator.
Anyway I have a question. My computer is still in the production stage. Is it possible to call and change the warranty. I got 1 year and wanted to up that a bit. I don't want to jinx it though since its been canceled once already.

So, there's no "Boxing" stage anymore? Apparently it has been combined with "In Production".
I ordered mine on Jun 7 and the original EDD was Jun 23. Now it has been moved up to Jun 18 and when I called customer service, they said that the order is preparing to ship. That leads me to believe that it's in transit to the U.S. from Malaysia since Jun 18 is this coming Friday. Also, when I check my order status online and click the "In Production" link, there is no longer a "Boxing" stage in the list of status descriptions.
I think this must be a very recent change. Dell seems to have switched a few things in the past few weeks. For example, I got a RGB LED 1080p display on my 1749, but people in Europe can't get it and some of the older posts I've read from last month lead me to believe that the option wasn't available 3 or 4 weeks ago.
Can anyone confirm if they've done away with the "Boxing" stage? I wish we could get it straight from the horses mouth. Or at least from someone who works for Dell. -
If you're in the US, you can call 800-283-2210 option 4, 2, 1, 1 to check in which specific stage your laptop is. -
can any one plz tell me what variants(like quotaion code,IRN etc) one should enter to get order status?

Order was shipped on 23/06 and tracking now has the status of 'AGENT PICKUP; IN TRANSIT TO UPS FACILITY' which has been there this morning.
Does anyone know how long it takes until delivery? -
28/06/10 13:30 CHINA DEPARTED MANU.FACILITY
28/06/10 05:30 PENDING.
iv had 4 days of this! how much longer??? -
What does it mean when the order status page says "In Production", but calling the order status number, it says "Processing"?
-
I recently ordered my first Dell laptop and am confused about my order.
Ordered on the 5th, with an online EDD of the 21st. On the 12th, the online EDD was updated to the 16th. I just called the 1-800 number for automated order status on the 13th, and it says the computer has already shipped, but it says "it shipped" two days in the future - on the 15th!) with a EDD of the 16th!
Anyone have something like this? I ordered with the 7 day shipping option. -
-
I ordered my Adamo on July 19th, it shipped today, I've been calling Dell asking why it took so long, they said the delays are being caused by a heavy load of orders, mainly alot of student orders have came in and each order gets checked before it goes out and it has caused alot of delays so if your order is taking longer than usual.. thats the reason most likely im guessing...
-
I just ordered a Studio 14 last night. EDD is 8/20.
For kicks and giggles, I checked this morning and I was puzzled.
Online status says that it is in production
But the phone status says that it my order is processing.
I was wondering which method of checking your status was more accurate: phone or online. -
And for those of you who still look at this thread, I talked to the Dell service people about my above comment today. They told me that the phone service no longer stats where in production the computer, it is just says order processing. So who knows what is going on with my computer.
-
Can anyone confirm what I have found out in the posts above? Or has a thread with over 700 posts turned into a convo with myself?

My EDD is 8/12 and has been since I ordered around Noon EST on July 30th. It spent a day or so in "Pre-production" on the website, and it's been "In Production" ever since. I only called the number after it was in production, and the status on the phoen says "in processing" or "in production", I don't remember which. It doesn't give detailed status at all.
-
Hey KGriffin,
What did you order? I got a Dell Studio 14 with i5 processor, 4 gig RAM, and 512 mb radeon card.
I will tell you when my status changes. Could you do the same please? Thanks. -
I ordered around Noon EST on July 30th.
My EDD is still holding steady at Aug 12. If it ever changes I will shout it from the rooftops...
This is for a Vostro 3700. -
OK, just noticed something and I have no idea how long it's been like this since I haven't checked in a few days.
The past couple days I've been opening my Dell confirmation email and clicking on the order number. That tells me In Production and EDD 8/12, and it still says that right now.
However, if I then click on My Account and log in with my ID and password, it shows the order status as "Delivery Preparation".
The only problem is, I have no idea what "Delivery Preparation" means... -
and to top it all off, I just called this number: 800-283-2210 and used option 3 to check me status, and it told me my computer shipped August 9th, which is pretty impressive since it's August 4th.
-
You inspired me, kgriffin. I have been checking my status via confirmation email too. So I decided to do what you did and lo behold... still in production. Oh well... I hope nothing is wrong. I can't imagine what would be.
I hope your laptop comes soon. Please post as your laptop gets closer. What kind of shipping did you get? -
the normal 3-5 day shipping (it was free)
Wonder why Dell changed this whole process from being able to see the small detailed steps online to broad statuses like "In Production". Very annoying -
this morning my status remains the same (In Production/Delivery Preparation), but my EDD has been updated to 8/10 instead of 8/12

Dell Studio XPS 16
Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
6GB, DDR3, 1333MHz 2 Dimm
15.6 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p Full HD WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1645
320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
I ordered my laptop late on Monday (8/2/10), around 10pm, and I chose ground 7 day shipping. Yet once submitted, it said my estimated delivery date was 8/10/10. 6 business days? That's quicker than the shipping method I picked. Does that sound right to anyone else? I thought Dell was suppose to over estimate.
It's now Thursday (8/5) and one Dell order status says "Delivery Preperation" and another page says "In Production". They have 2 full business days to have it at my house (in southern Pennsylvania) by the estimated date.
Needless to say I don't have very high hopes of having it by Tuesday, not that I was really ever expecting to have it by then in the first place... -
Winterjunkie,
I am happy for you but your situation frustrates me. I ordered more than a week ago and it has been stuck on "on production" since then. None of my parts were delayed or back-ordered. Perhaps they knew they would take their sweet time on my laptop.
I am going to sit on this until next Monday. Then I will start raising hell. I will call and write letters. I think it is terribly dishonest for them to advertise one date and then live up to a much later date. Customer Care didn't seem to care. Perhaps their supervisors will care.
And I did check my status a couple different ways on the net and phone.
Keep updating you all. I know I will do the same. -
Winterjunkie, is your system new or from outlet? I can't find the option for the 320gb HDD anymore.
-
Anodize, it's new. Here is the link.
(No change from Dell on status or EDD...) -
-
My order status has changed to shipped! EDD remains set for 8/10/10 on Dell's site. They gave me a FedEx tracking number, but the FedEx website does not give me a estimated delivery date yet.
I've never heard of such a quick turn around time for a customized laptop. However it is not here yet, so I guess I should keep my mouth shut. I will post again when the shipment arrives! -
Great to hear, winterjunkie!
My saga continues...
Augustine from Dell (cool name but probably a rarity in India) called today to tell me that delivery date is still set for 8/20. I asked him why it was taking so long and he told me it was because there was a delay of parts. I could have told him but it was the first I heard someone from Dell say that. I told him that I was not happy about the delay because before I purchased the computer, I made sure there were no delays. Obviously, they can't predict these things. I asked him if he could change the shipping from free 3-5 business days to next business days. He was able to do that. He said that they will call whenever the system ships. If the 20th comes and goes with no computer, I will be raising some hell. Otherwise, I am going to practice patience.
