Ordered an alienware desktop on 1-22 with an EDD of 2-16. They updated that for 2-23 and I called and asked about it last week. They said they were sorry about the delay but the good news is that there won't be any further delays as they have all the parts for the computer and it should be shipped out by 2-17. Well today I get an email saying there is another delay and that I have to call to confirm that I still want the computer or else they will cancel the order. The revised EDD is 3-2. Is this normal? Very frustrating.

It's quite normal. Most likely some part or SKU is holding up your order. Though don't bother asking reps what exact part is holding you up because you'll get some pathetically canned response about "high demand" or some BS like that. Best I can tell you to do is call and request them to upgrade you to overnight shipping or try asking for a small credit to your account for the inconvenience these delays are causing you. Otherwise, bring your patience. It also pays to stop checking status updates every day. It'll only make you more antsy. I've stopped bothering to check my status more than once a day to keep myself sane. :D

You're spot-on. They said that there was a shortage of a part (which part, they had no idea because it's not their field) and that once it was received, the system would be shipped out. I demanded that they upgrade the shipping because I had been promised there would be no further delays a few days ago, but the rep said there was nothing he could do. Hopefully this part doesn't take a month to get in. :(

Keep calling in and eventually you should get a nice enough rep to upgrade your shipping. I did this after my first delay email and the rep complied immediately. I haven't asked for the credit since my system has entered boxing at this point. It has worked in the past with some others though. Ask for a supervisor if they still don't budge after a couple calls.

Hi I just joined this fourm, so I ordered a dell 14z and they gave me a EDD of 2/23, they then delayed it to 2/26, and now its 3/05. Has anyone else had trouble a 14z?

Delayed again, revised EDD 3/9. The annoying thing is that the first two times it was delayed, I called and asked about it and they reassured me there would be no further delays. Also, three times I've asked to upgrade my shipping and they told me they couldn't do it. I guess next time I'll ask for their supervisor, this is getting frustrating.

I'm totally happy with the delays...I've been in the middle of a system exchange for an M1530 to a Studio XPS 1640. Not only did they offer to send me a new system instead of refurbished due to the delays, but they canceled their newest order (which was put in yesterday; the two orders before it were both canceled,) and re-booked it with the ATI 4670 that I asked for.

    Old XPS:
    ~15" 1280x800 LCD
    Intel 1.66Ghz T5450
    2GB DDR2-566
    8600M-GT
    250GB HDD
    Windows Vista Ultimate

    New XPS:
    15.6" Full-HD WLED LCD
    Intel P8800 2.66 C2D
    3GB DDR3-1366
    ATI 4670HD
    250GB HDD
    Windows 7 Ultimate

Delays, yeah... delays are awesome. For me, anyway. (Did I mention all this was free?)

I guess the point here is that, if you're really getting pushed back by the production line, support will ACTUALLY try to help you... eventually. I got what I asked for (4670) and more (new computer,) so... yeah, that's about it.

    Good luck peoples. :p

I ordered on the 25th and it went to 'in production' very quickly but its still in production. Its an outlet laptop, are they doing with it?

Can anyone add info on what happens with outlet laptops from the moment it is returned by the original buyer?

Dell normally overshoots the EDD, purposely. Helps keep customer's tempers down if there's a temporary back-log on a part.

Of course, if you get stuck in an 8-week back-log like I've been, it doesn't help much.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before (really can't be bothered to read through 67 pages, I supposed I could do a search, but meh.) so here you go...

As per system exchanges, (I'd presume orders in general) a link to your invoice is provided under your Order Details page, which is accessible through your "My Account" page. On this invoice is your tracking number... no more waiting for Dell to update your account pages!

My laptop just moved from "Boxing" into "Shipped" status within the past 30 minutes, so I know this works. Like I said, this was for a system exchange, but I'm 99% sure it should be the same for a normal order. =P

Any updates from your end? Today is the 12th. :)

Usually the ESD/EDD is overestimated for reasons to product Dell from any delay uncertainty's (ie. part delays/shortages).

I would assume it would arrive to you on, or before the 19th, otherwise! ;)

If you ordered from the Outlet, the turn around is fairly fast. Usually w/in a week. When something is returned and sold thru the Outlet it is "thoroughly" checked before it would be sold to you, or I. :)

What is you status as of today?

    Now for me:
My replacement 1640 is going to be a 1647:

    Order Date: 3/10/2010
    Order Status: In Production
Per Dell Chat: w/in 2 weeks [IMG]

Jarp!! We shall truly see! ;)

I ordered my S-XPS16 on 3/12 with an original EDD of 3/29, but somehow the EDD was changed yesterday to be 3/19!

Something is shady, though- I ordered via EPP so cannot "find" my order from within the "my order status" page, but the link from the email confirmation for the purchase ID shows that it was shipped. The order status page still says In Production.

I found that if you copy/past the purchase ID page it shows you:
Order Number order_number_link PO Number Order Description Order Date estimated_ship_date Estimated Delivery Date actual_ship_date Order Status order_status Email Notification
    myNum myNum Studio XPS 16 Notebook 3/12/2010 1/1/0001 3/19/2010(updated) 3/18/2010 4:20:03 AM Shipped Shipped

Strange, that it says that it shipped on 3/18! Wishful thinking on Dell's part?

I called the order status # and the automated voice told me that it shipped on 3/18 (again, today is the 17th!) and should arrive (with 3-5 day shipping) on 3/19.

I spoke with a rep who said it is in the final stages of being prepared for shipping, whatever that means.

In any case, I wasn't expecting it until the end of the month, so a likely delivery sometime next week sounds good to me! It is just strange how inconsistent the Dell site is with itself (and with reality!)

So to follow up- I received a tracking number on the date Dell said they would ship it, 3/18. It didn't come on the EDD 3/19, not surprising since I have 3-5 day shipping. My concern now is that the tracking number is still not registered with FedEx. It states on the order status page that up to 24 hours may be needed for the tracking number to be updated into the shipper's system, but it has been 48 for me.

I need to take off work the day it arrives, so the tracking number is for more than just joy joy thoughts- how should I handle this? Bug Dell, or bug FedEx?

I keep on updating my post with dates and etc, however top be honest if I goes beyond 2 weeks without it being delivered (Next Day Delivery), then I think I am going to cancel. Now I know I am not the only one that placed an order, but I don't want to be stuck in the never ending "standstill" as Cin' put it.

Awww.. :( You can get on chat or call a Rep and have one that will "watch your order" til it ships. Basically, they keep tabs with your "concern at issue" til its shipped , you receive it & have found resolve. That is what they have done forme in the past..and have bumped the shipping method due to my situation ATM.

When you speak/chat with them you just let them know your displeasure with how long the production has been taking..and are realling wanting your lappy, etc :)

Well, I usually have someone I usually talk to a Dell to help me out (company works with them), so it helps out some. Plus it hasn't been that long, but soon it will be a week.

I dunno, I just hope it ships soon cause my last system replacement took 25 days and I hate refreshing and calling all the time to find out the status :/

Phone is more accurate then online at times.

I don't know what system they use, if anything though its internal only. We only see the front end and usually what they see is what we see - just in read-only format.

I just checked the status of my order by phone... "It was received yesterday. It was shipped on April 6th. The estimated delivery date is on or before April 9th."

Obviously the second statement isn't correct. It used to say that it was being processed...so maybe it's currently transitioning to the build stage or something. It says 'In Production' when I check online (today and yesterday).

When I ordered the system, it had an ESD of 4/2/10 and EDD of 4/9/10. How accurate are Dell's estimates? Should I expect it on the 9th or about how much earlier?

When it ships, then its pretty decent. Otherwise its sometimes overstated, or understated depending on whats going on with your order.

Wow... Now when I check the status 10 hours later, it says it was shipped on March 28th and has an updated EDD of March 31st. The new EDD shows up online as well. Anyone else have strange status updates as me? It seems odd it went straight from processing to being shipped. I haven't caught it in the build stage or anything or anything like that. I will have to see what it says this afternoon or evening.

Dell Automated Online Order Status used to be more specific. They used to give you an estimated shipping date, and say more than just "in processing" (ie build stage).

It was easier to be able to "rely" on Automated Order Status vs. the website. Now you don't know which to go with. :(. They even discontinued the further information you could get when you dialed this number for Automated Information: 1-800-283-2210, with the Press #, etc...Now it's just the same as dialing 1-800-433-9014. :(

Basically, your order is most likely in production (and in the build stage).

If you want the best specifics, hop on Chat tomorrow..and ask a Rep where exactly your order is in the Build stage, and ask for an estimated shipping date. That way you will have a e-mail sent to you after-wards as confirmation of what was said during the conversation.

If you decide to dial a Rep on the phone, be sure to get a Case Number from the Rep verbally & emailed to you, that is your confirmation of what the conversation entailed. :)

I dunno why they stopped it. To be honest, I rather know where mine is instead of calling and bring up there inbound call stats. Chat doesn't work right 90% of the time, and hold time are at least 10 minutes.

Currently mine is in "pre-production" due to the parts that are on back order and according to our enterprise sales rep, thats normal.

I just hope to get mine before 4/30/2010 :/

    Current delays for vostro 3400:

    Build Time 15 days

    Lucerne Red 10 days
    ( or)
    Brisbane Bronze 10 days

    Total time: 25 days...

Sure..and...  mybad. I forgot, for Order Support on Orders Placed there is no "Chat" Just E-mail/Phone Support.

Do you have a Current System that is under warranty yet?
If so, try this LINK, Enter your Service Tag, & other pertaining info..and you will be connected to a Rep. Once you get connected, just state you would like the status of your order..see if they can look it up for you really quick.

Otherwise, dial 1-800-433-9014, put in your 9 digit Order Number. After Automated Voice' give you your current: "Your Order was received on 3/##/10, and is currently being processed"...Would like further information?..Hit 0, or say Customer Service/Support..and you will be transferred directly to a Rep, who can give you more information.

This is the point, when I have called about Order Status and have been transferred...I have had someone usually follow my case til ship (doesn't matter if it was for an Accessory or for a lappy purchase). :)

**Remember to always get that Case Number!! It's your backup!!

I hope this helps you a bit'..if there is anything else, just let me know! ;) : )

awesome thanks :) This will actually be my first Dell system ever, so I'll have to call in and hopefully get some good information. I'm extremely paranoid with my orders now.
I ordered the HP 8540w on feb 5th and after numerous phone calls and lies I finally canceled it when everyone online was saying they were getting adjusted shipping dates of 4/3 and 4/5.

I want to make sure my 4/7 delivery date is true otherwise i'll go buy a beater laptop from best buy and just wait til these companies get their S together. I've been laptopless since feb 22 and use my phone for most of my web browsing and I am stuck at the school computer lab for incredible amounts of time trying to get work done.

Laptopless since 2/22..awww :( I so understand your frustration level as such. Waiting & trusting companies, when you have had "issues in the past" is really hard.

I can tell you that, Dell usually "overestimates" the ESD to protect themselves from any potential delays/issues on the production line (ie..part delays/backorders/shipping issues). So, the chance of your lappy being delivered on/before 4/7 could very well hold to it's date. : )

Here is something funny to consider. I had ordered a BluRay Player from Dell. I received "shipment" notification. Then, the next day..I received and e-mail stating "Your Order has been Delayed"....When fact, it had shipped and was on it's way to me. This has happened a few times!!! [IMG]! Once, I actually receive my Tracking Number, I know I'm "good to go". :)

When you are speaking with the Rep, advise them that this is your first Dell lappy ever, and are very nervous that it may not ship to you before the 4/7/10 EDD, and are very much looking forward to receiving it, as you have had issues with another brand before and ended up canceling. Who know's maybe they will "bump" you to Next Day Shipping! ;)

Keep us advised and *fingers crossed* I always say!

hehe, it shipped today! I'm excited I hope I get it before the weekend! I could really use it :D

OOh it says delivery of 4/2 so this friday. I hope that's accurate.

So far I have no complaints about Dell and their CSR, but that may be because I bought a workstation notebook too.

That is awesome! :) So, glad it shipped for you.
You can get the Tracking Number from the Rep, if you want (even it it's not availi' on the site yet) :)

If it shipped Fed Ex, you can also get it via Fed.com

Go to www.fedex.com; top tab: Track; Drop Down: Track By Reference; Enter Reference: ( Put in Your 9 Digit Order Number); Then put in your Destination Country & Destination Postal Code; Click Track! :)

    LINK

I hope you get it by Friday, also! That would be nice to have over the weekend!

*fingers continually crossed for yah* ;)

Next time I order a laptop if they delay it I'll order another one and which ever one comes first I will keep. I could've had a laptop months ago :p

Hehe Cin, thank you! It possibly would have of shipped by now if the first order wasn't cancelled :p

Oh well, its going to be a week soon - so we will see soon enough. Too bad they don't have laptop kits and you can put it together yourself. It would be so much cheaper and quicker.
