I've been hassling dell daily since the order was put through. (mostly because everytime I called, they had absolutely nothing to tell me other than its "in production" no estimated delivery date.

I spoke with someone today again (seeing that your order had shipped) and this time spoke with a 1 800 number rather than the XPS support 1866 number.

The agent i spoke with told me (in much greater detail) that my laptop (having been re issued a new order number on the 20th) would take 10-15days from the 20th now.() As such, he had an estimated ship date for me which is as you were told, February 10th 2010. Also he was able to see that the laptop was sitting in the "build stage" of the "in production" status.

So, hopefully at the very worst I'll see it sometime shortly after the 10th or else ... well I have no other options. Its just wait wait wait and hope for the best.

"We are trying to beat the estimated delivery date on your order" Was just told that by dell cust. support. Do they actually think that people believe that?

Ok so here is my story... (Dell Canada)

Ordered on Jan 11th for a 1-day only deal of XPS 16 with core i5 520M and ATI 5730 GPU. Loved the ATI 5730 cuz it consumes lower power and is smaller. Sales rep I chatted with told me delivery is 10-18 business days. Great!

After purchase, EDD shows up as Feb 25th, 2010... 35 business days! Emailed order support couple times about it. Got in touch with my sales rep, who says ATI 5730 is new and OUT OF STOCK and they don't even know when it will be in stock or if they'll even have it as an option in the future! So the guy recommended me to downgrade to ATI 4670 which is still good i guess.

Guy canceled and reinstated my order on Jan 23rd with the ATI 4670 GPU. New EDD: March 1st, 2010! He told me its just an EDD and I MAY get my laptop earlier than that. WOW!

So now i'm still waiting. It's really frustrating and agonizing. I feel cheated cuz Dell advertised something they don't have as a build option just to attract sales. I just emailed their order support again to confirm that my machine has actually moved into production rather than still sitting in pre-production stage.

eBay sellers have better customer service than Dell...

I hope so I want it for tomorrow, is Purolator a good compagny. Ive always been with canada post or UPS, and they are quick and professional and knock on the door and take stairs :). Is that the same with purolator or I have to stick my face on the window for the hole day?

I wouldn't trust any of those s :p I'd be at the window with tripwire on the driveway ready to pounce.

I've had them walk up to the door, look in and walk away before. While i was standing 10ft from the door. (luckily they went around the block and decided to come back while i was already on the phone yelling at puralotor (or UPS) support.

What about "is being processed" state when I call the 800 number, and my order shows in production on the website? I ordered Wednesday and the lady said it should of gone into production within 3 hours?

FINALLY I've got a tracking #! Estimated Arrival Date is Feb 4th. It looks like constant bugging Dell customer service does help. I have a total of 20 communications back and forth with Dell order support on my Gmail. :D

Sad thing is when I called Purolator with this tracking #, they said the package haven't even arrived at their facilities. Anybody know how soon they actually ship out once they give u the tracking #? I hope they're not just bluffing me to keep me quiet for a while.

I've been pretty impressed with Dell this week:

    tuesday: ordered online
    wednesday: work in progress
    thursday: in production
    friday: shipped

The tracking page says that the laptop has departed manufacturing facility in China at 21:30 on Friday. What are the chances I'll receive this laptop on either monday or tuesday?

    thanks

Your sig says that you ordered blu-ray, How can they say that they will have it built by then if they aren't offering it in any of their systems?

I already posted this question on another sub-forum here, but thought I'd try here as well, because it seems to be appropriate to the subject of this forum.
I ordered a laptop Inspiron 1750 from Dell (Netherlands) on Thursday January 28 around 2 PM - I received the order receipt confirmation e-mail immediately, but not the order confirmation e-mail itself. It's more than 2 days later now, and this e-mail still hasn't arrived. Also, there is no way I can check the progress of my order using the IR-number and e-mail; whenever I try, I get the message that the order hasn't been processed yet and I should wait for the order confirmation. My question is: is it normal for this to take so long? Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do to speed things up, or at least get some answer about what's going on? I gave a credit card number, but I understand the credit card won't be charged until the order is actually shipped - is that correct? Also, I did try to call Dell but had a lot of trouble getting through, and when I finally spoke to somebody she seemed very uninterested and only said 'I should try again Monday morning'. Not much help there... So I'll be grateful for any replies!

    Hi maria,
Same was for me the first time never got the mail, so I called and told them that the mail never went trough, well In my case I was with a sales representative on the fone.
He kept sending mails but I never got one of them so I told him to change my email adresse (I give first the university mail) to my yahoo one, I got the mail in less than 2 sec.
Keep pushing them on the phones, and always ask for their fone numbers so you will not go trough different people each time.
    Hope I helped
    good luck

Actually my sig lies, I ordered with the DVD RW drive however i've been guaranteed that when it finally ships out I can have them send out a technician with the same Bluray RE drive thats in my current SXPS 1640 and swap the dvd for that.

So I just put the bluray in the sig because I "expect" to get that.

Not sure myself, probably something to do with a backorder on either the processor or even (might be) the Arctic White case. I heard the first time I ordered my 1640 I couldn't get the white because of its availability in Canada.

Thaks for your reply Clogui! In my case, I did get the first e-mail so I assume the problem is not with the e-mail address. It's just the order confirmation mail that's not arriving... Also, I'm finding it very hard to reach Dell by phone. They only work Monday thru Friday from 9 to 4, and even then I kept getting an automated message saying that there were 'no Dutch-speaking representatives available anymore' and then getting disconnected. I finally got through by using the English-speaking option, but it took at least 5 tries! Anyway, I will start trying again tomorrow, hope I'll get some results then!

My order was in the "Build" Stage for nearly 2 weeks (1/18 to 1/29)...Then, on 1/29 it moved into the "Build" Stage. It's supposed to ship this week.

I don't go buy the ESD on Automated dial anymore ~ rather trust what "stage" it's in. If I want "confirmation" or more of a actual ESD I will get on "chat" or call up a Rep. Automated Dial "spits" out to many varied ESD's.

Update: I got a message from Dell yesterday saying that my order could not be processed because there was a problem with the creditcard. No-one at Dell could tell me what this problem was (I got connected through 4 times to different sales people, in the end I wound up with somebody in India (I think) speaking a somewhat incomprehensible English.....), but when I called the bank they told me the problem most likely was that I had given the wrong expiry date. However, the problem may also be that in my case the delivery address is not the same as the address on the credit card statement (the latter is a P.O.B. number). Anyway, nothing for it but to try again - I'll keep you posted!

Hi, Dell claimed to have shipped mine out last Thursday (Jan 28th) and had given me a tracking number. I just called Purolator today (Monday) and they say they still don't have a scan on that tracking number yet which means the package has not even arrived at Purolator facilities to be in their system. Has anyone had similar experience before or is there something wrong with my order? Does anyone know how long it usually takes for Dell to get your machine to the Local Purolator Facility?

If its being shipped there is a chance it was and is stuck in customs. (comming to Canada) so you might not get any updates until it passes into the canadian puralator depot. Customs time can average a while BUT, being shipped out on the 28th of January, I would be somewhat concerend if i didn't have it be end of the weeke. (obviously for the most part weekends don't count)

Hey Gang – I'm a new guy here, and I want to thank Spliner for the great write up!
I found it very helpful last night and today when calling Dell.

My story goes like this; a few years ago I needed a lap top immediately, so rushed thru the buying process and walked out of a store with a HP, and I’ve regretted it most days since. This time I wanted to do things the right way, so I’ve done a lot of research. For work the last 8 months I’ve been using a hand me down Dell Vostro that has been pretty good.

I’ve known about Alienware for several years, and heard they are still pretty good as Dell machines. So for my personal / gaming PC, I’ve chosen to get an Alienware M17X laptop.

Ordered it: 1-25-10... At that time the EDD was 2-19-10
I called the Dell Order Status Line given in the first post here (800-433-9014 US) and got the automated info of a change to my EDD of 2-16/17-10.
    Good news!

To confirm, I chose to speak with customer service and was surprised how very nice the overseas rep was. Santosh Narra, a Resolution Specialist, stated he would be my point of contact from now until I had my Alienware in my hands, and gave me his contact info. It felt like I had my own personalized customer service rep. :D
    I thought to myself, did I buy a 200K Bentley, or a $2500 Laptop?

Santosh confirmed my two questions as well as my updated delivery date. He then stated he would find out the exact step of “processing” (from the first post) that my machine was in, and would send me an email to advise me within 24 hours. Maybe I just got a good rep, but if this is even somewhat typical, I can see why Dell is getting such a high customer service rating on the review sites I’ve been looking at.

I'll update here when I know more.
Looking forward to getting my new 'puter!
    Cheers - Chris "Mosie"

Considering what some people on this forum and the forum at Dell website have been through, you are probably one of the lucky ones. Or it could just be that you're in US so you get better pricing and customer service.

I think some of the customer service rep gets commissions from sales when your order gets linked to them, the guy that overlooked my order was the sales rep who chatted with me when I purchased my xps 16, so he was quite responsive to my questions. But he couldn't really help me when the GPU i ordered was never and will probably never be in stock, despite Dell putting it as a build option to attract sales. I had to downgrade it (while price stayed the same because it was offered at equal price when I ordered) to get my laptop into production. Anyways it took me $1500 CDN... + 27 communications back and forth on my gmail to get my laptop... and it's finally arrived in my city, to be delivered tomorrow! :D I just hope they don't screw up the build or send me the wrong machine like what happened to some unfortunate ppl.

I see that some Studio 17's with the 1080p screens are being delivered. Good for me. Hopefully I'll be getting mine soon. I ordered from the US Dell store. Apparently, my laptop is in the build stage. I hope that it closer to the end of that stage than the beginning of it.

Or, as I found out, it may have been because I learned that the rep I talked with was in the Alienware queue. I also got there thru a bussiness line. I don't really know if that is the reason, if there is possible commission or I just got lucky for once..?

Here is the update I promised, and maybe this will help some of the Alienware customers. I say Alienware reluctantly, as I would hope Dell will stand behind their product to whom ever, where ever...

I ordered Dec 9 and it is still in production. It really depends on what you ordered.

I ordered a 1645 on 1/18 it was suppose to ship today 2/8 and its still listed as production. I think its because of the RGB screen.
