Hey I have a question... How do you get a more detailed status update for the "In production" stage? When I call to check the status of my order using the 1-800-443-9014 and speak with a representative, all she tells me is that it is "In Production" and I can check online. I press her for more information, but she just repeats herself: "Sir, it is currently in production". I want to know if it is in the Boxing stage yet, etc... It has been "In production" since September 6th, and is due to be delivered on the 23rd... I want more details, but I keep getting the same lady and she won't give me anything other then "In Production"...

    Thanks,
    Ennova Snap

1)Call 800-283-2210 = this is the DPA phone number so don't get worried

    2)Follow prompt #3

    3)Now, select business/epp selection #2

    4)Track order option #1

5)Then do it again - track order option #1

My SXPS 16 has been sitting in the Hinckley hub for almost 24 hours now. The 'Walsh Western' carriers that Dell appear to use for the UK seem pretty amateurish.
Edit: 24 hours later, it's still sitting in the hub, no phone call, no email...
Edit: Just had the phone call, and arranged for delivery tomorrow. Why did they keep it for 2 days...
Edit2: Arrived as scheduled and is fully up and running.

Last night, I ordered a laptop power adapter/charger from Dell Canada. It near immediately showed "In Production" (ha. ha.) and then around noon today it was marked "Shipped", but I didn't get an email until about 8:00 PM MST. It's shipped, but it's kind of odd. It says Carrier: INTERCITY without a tracking number. Could this just mean that Dell has a warehouse in Calgary, AB (where I live)?

EDIT: This is a product ordered from the Small Business store.

Patience. Boxing is probably the most process intensive stage. Not only do they box the whole darn thing & accessories, but it has to be palletized, routed, and then flown here. It is also the step where one mistake holds up the whole FRIGGIN line. It's like shopping at the grocery store. Large amounts of people can shop and fill their buggies at one time. But all it takes is one friggin Price Check to hold up the line.

    haha.. thanks! :)
btw, i just checked. it says 'shipped' on the web site. i called the automated status line, and they say its shipped. only, the nice computer-voice lady on the phone said it shipped on october 3, which nicely coincides with the date i ordered it!

but, the worst is over, that is to say, the worst for my anxiety (i think that went on for the first half or so week). now im more like, 'it'll get here.. sooner or later'!

So I ordered my Studio 15 (1555) on 10/19 and since then, the website has said 'in production' while the automated line said my system was in 'pre-production.' Hmm, two different design stages at once. Confused much?

My estimated ship date is today (10/28) and when I called Dell to check on it this morning, it finally said my system was in the Build stage. I think they're behind... :(

EDIT: Woo, they delayed it by almost a week. Estimated Delivery Date: 11/10/09.

EDIT 2: Just entered the boxing stage this morning (11/02/09). Hoping for a quick delivery!

Hello, this is my first post here and I would like to tell you the waiting sucks. Before I found this site I was happy, now I have been turned into an OCD freak, I think I wore out my refresh key, but my lappy is now in boxing. This will be my second from Dell, in April I ordered a M1530 and it took less than a week to get to me from time of order, and it looks like my M17x will possibly do the same... famous last words huh?

So I use the number, despite that mine is a home order. Excited, I first hear that my 1645 has been shipped (I put the order in less than a week ago), then I hear that it was shipped "November 10th 1999" and can be tracked via my local carrier.
I guess it doesn't work for Canadian home customers?

When I go to the "My Account" page the status is listed as "Delivery Preperation." When I click on my order, it says "In Production." What does this mean?

Mine was like this for about 8 hours. Then it went to 'shipped'. Just give it time. Your order is definitely in the Delivery Preparation stage.

Credit. Granted, my credit company declined the payment when it first came through, but I called them the same day to go ahead and accept it. Sent out an email to customer service an hour ago, so hopefully i'll have an answer in the morning.

Ah yeah, sorry about that. I got in touch with dell, and apparently I had to tell them to go ahead and try and charge the card again, and right after that phone call my order was put in Production. This was about a week ago, but today it just reached the shipping stage, and fedex picked it up today!

Now here's the next problem. ETA is the 24th, and I'm going to be out of state from the 23rd to the 26th. I read on the fedex website I can leave a letter with a signature and tracking number at the door and they'll leave the package there, so i'm probably going to do that then ask a friend to just put it in the house until my return. Best idea I could come up with.

Thanks for updating! :) I'm glad it is on it's way to being shipped to you! That is to bad you will be out of state when it will be shipped. FedEx is pretty easy to work with on delivery of items, when you leave a note on the door like that. Just be sure that your friend will be there to pick it up when they do leave the package for you! :)

    Grats again!

    Wow.... Today has really sucked.

Last night my girlfriends car was broken into, attempted hotwiring, and now it's all messed up and won't start. So we decided to stay for today in order to deal with the cops and get the car towed, and would head up for family on the 24th. And, obviously, i'm not going to leave a note saying to leave a package outside when a car was just broken into in my driveway.

After dealing with this, to my suprise my laptop order tracking said that my package was out for delivery! At least i'll be here to sign!

    Well, that was the plan.

    After waiting until 6:50, right about now, I rechecked the order tracking. And find this;

Dec 23, 2009 10:30 AM At local FedEx facility
Dec 23, 2009 10:46 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery
Dec 23, 2009 6:40 PM At local FedEx facility

....So yeah. Was out for delivery, and for SOME REASON headed right back to the facility...

I'm planning to call Fedex tomorrow, and asking them to wait to deliver until the 27th. Does anyone know if they will be able to do this? If not, I suppose I'll tell them to hold it at their facility, even though I have no idea where it is.

*Sigh*. This has been an ordeal.

EDIT: Just called Fedex, didn't have to wait on hold at all. They'll be sending it on the 27th. Best customer service i've seen in a while :).

    Hi all!

Thanks for these really informative posts.

I ordered my Studio 17 from Dell on Jan 12, 2010. It is now Jan 20th and it still says it is in production. The EDD is February 3. When I called Dell to see where it was in the process, they only said that it was going to be delivered earlier than the EDD, and refused to provide me with more details.

Is there any magic number in Canada (like the 800-283-2210) that can give me a bit more info? That number doesn't appear to work here and says that my order was shipped November 24, 1999.

Or perhaps someone can provide me with a bit more info if they've ordered a similar laptop from Dell recently.

    Thanks!

Yet they keep sending the dispatch facility requests to expedite the order. lol.

    Yes! :D

I just checked online and it says that it was shipped yesterday (January 22), although when I checked yesterday it had not changed from In production. Dell also has not provided me with a tracking number but instead says that it's "in transit".

The EDD is still the same, but I'm hoping to get it in the next few days! What's the status on yours right now? Where are you located?

    I told you guys.
Mid to late Feb. (At least)

They simply don't have the stock to build Studio 17's, especially with 1080p screens.

I think 1645's have the same problem. (Core i7)

    Anything earlier, and Dell's lying.

Notice, we all are waiting on i7,and 1333 upgraded RAM?!?

So why do they lie to me and tell me ( A manager) via mail that my laptop will leave their factories in two days ( since monday) !!! Is that what I get for paying 1500$ !!!

They lie, because they don't want you to cancel and loose the sale, they will tell you anything to keep you from canceling.

Things a re really bad for Dell right now, we got caught in the middle.
They have no parts, and are probably in the middle of a re-design.

Maybe you will get lucky, but I think you (and me) are at least 2 to 4 weeks from getting our laptops.

I'm financing, so I haven't had to spend any actual money yet.. no Laptop..no paymentl. However, if I had paid already.. I'd cancel in a heartbeat and get the new ASUS.

BTW, it will take 5 to 8 days to get your laptop when it ships.. so if it has left the factory, 2 days is no big deal.
