see all that hate for me and you still got your laptop today. I got mine really early this morning because my mom had something delivered and I answered the door and asked the guy about my laptop. He told me that he wasn't allowed to deliver it before 10:30 by itself but since he had the package for my mom here he was able to. So I got mine at 10 this morning. It's great!!

it depends on what rep you talk to.

Squeaky, the guy explained to me that if they just delivered whatever whenever that they would not get all the packages delivered "on time" meaning if your package was due to be delivered by 10:30 that morning, then they couldn't do it unless they just delivered the ones needing delivered by then. Now I do agree with you that it is quite inefficient if they have 2 packages for the same house, they should be stuck together and delivered together. Otherwise he would have had to come twice.

This is precisely what I was referring to.

If you provide a link then maybe we can determine that.

Yeah, and shortly after I received that phone call, DHL knocked on my door and gave me a Bluetooth remote. How weird is that...

So I still have a travel remote coming tomorrow...

Hey, that is really cool. Then you can have the BT one when your listening to music and walking around and not directly in front of the machine and then the other for when you are. If you decide not to keep the travel one in lieu of the BT one, let me know, I'd send you $20 for it, just for having both.

I'll post up a pic of the travel remote shortly.

I spoke to the customer service. They promised me that they will include the remote control in my order for free and then they transfered to another rep and they told me the opposite, that the remote will not included!!! At the end i didn´t know anything surely.
Terrible customer service, one says a thing and another says another thing. This is a big problem and DELL has to take care with that.

Actually, they were free to Canadians and weren't offered to the US. The people who were originally complained about the remote were led to believe by review units that it would be included by default. Now they are offering it on the website and I'm sure no one is going to complain about paying $15 for it, but that's very recent.

Great News! I just received the coveted dell remote today... DHL was supposed to deliver it yesterday but they screwed up and it went out asa special delivery on Saturday. After about a week of calling dell about two weeks ago I was told by the returns department in oregon that they had found the remote and shipped it for me free of charge using the order info " FW331 Kit,Remote Control,Notebook Mobile 2008,Philips "

As I said, they shipped mine for free and they gave me the remote + $50 cash back in my account for my troubles. "they said they could do this because my laptop was priced over 1100 bucks."

    Here some pictures...

so how do I order one of these, I am not asking for another free one, I just want to buy it, with shipping should send out under $10 I would think. If it's really $3.99. But when I did a search of the FW331 part no: it showed up as 10.99

Edit: I just checked it out, it will cost $16.94 to ship it here. So I guess I will probably order one tomorrow. I love my Bluetooth remote but it would be nice to have a remote I can take with me when I am just carrying my notebook around. The other sticks out to much for me to bag it like that. But I have already used it at home watching movies, and listening to music, it's great. I can move all over my room and adjust volume and songs and.... I am very pleased with it. Now if only it didn't stick out....

All I did was call the returns department once I received my laptop and she called tech support to look up the specs on this paticular remote, then they came back with the order number, I waited as she typed up alot of information ( I could here it in the background). Then I received my order confirmation, honestly I think the only way to get this remote is for free.

I've been reading through the thread and I see a lot of different numbers so I just want to make sure. =)

I did see the FW331 on dells site.. comes up as Refurbished: Remote Control Kit
Their is no picture. Is that the right one? I tried with several agents to buy the dell travel remote and unfortunately nobody knew WTH I was talking about. I ended up canceling/reordering to add it since the configurator was the only place I could see it. If there is a link to the Dell travel remote on the accessories page I would like to see it. Maybe its easier to add separately now. Or as some say you have to get your notebook first before you can add the remote. There is a analyzer feature on dells replacement parts site that can look at your system and give you replacement parts.. have not tried it but I am thinking maybe the replacement part division is the only place you can find this remote.. If you have a hard time getting a rep to locate the remote I would ask them to look under the replacement parts.. I saw Creative do that once.. Got a IR remote for my nomad 3 from replacement parts since that remote was never sold by itself in the US for the JB3.

I called and got nowhere with dell. I emailed them and finally got a $50 coupon (for a remote). I know I will still have to pay tax and shipping, but that’s only about $10, and I might be able to call in and get the shipping waived. I’m happy.
I included an email transcript, in case anyone would like to see it.

    My email to dell:
Hi, I ordered an Inspiron 1520. Before I ordered the computer, I read a review that stated that a remote was included with the laptop. I do not find a remote on my invoice. I went to a forum and saw that other people were having the same problem. They called into Dell Customer Care and have been sent a complimentary remote. They said you might need the Part number, which I believe is A0691231. I would like a complementary remote as well.
    -Jdban

    Dell’s Response:
    Thank you for contacting Dell.
I apologize that you did not receive a remote with your notebook. You wish to receive a complimentary remote control with your notebook. I will assist you further.
I apologize for the inconvenience you may have experienced.
Dell records reflect that your order is still in production hence I request you to contact Dell Sales department and they would add the remote to your new order, before it ships out of Dell.
You may contact Dell Sales department on 1-800-915-3355 (between 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM (CST), Monday through Friday).
Mr. Jdban, please email for any additional support, and I shall be glad to assist you further.
The reference number for this interaction is 169603312
    Thank you for choosing Dell.
    Respectfully,
    Mohit_C

    My response:
Could you please just send the complementary remote to me? I have had a hard time contacting sales, with tons of disconnected calls. I am even considering cancelling my order, because I have had such trouble with all of this.
Let me know if you can help me.
    Thank you for your time,
    -Jdban

    Dell’s response:
I understand that you wish to receive the Remote. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. I will certainly help you with this concern.
Please be informed that I would like to offer you the coupon for $50 so that you can place the order for the Remote once the order is shipped, I will be able to process the coupon for the $50. If you are ready to accept the coupon reply to me so that I can process the coupon for $50.

The AO691231 is for the blue tooth remote. I have yet been able to see the IR dell travel remote listed anywhere on Dells site. None of the reps could see it either. Its possible that its easier to get once you get your system. But the only way I know to guarantee it is to include it in the original configuration build. Dell really needs to clean this mess up. At this point Dell is giving away (to some) a 50 dollar BT remote to resolve this issue. WTH don't they just give their own brand DELL IR remote instead? It costs them much much less to give what must cost them a few bucks IR remote then a third party BT one.

The BT one is nice.. I ordered it too.. but I just RMA'd it back since I was able to build the system with the IR one. The BT will stick out of the express slot whereas the IR won't. But I used that money to buy a Motorola MOTOROKR ™ S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones instead.

I got the other remote... which looks like an actual TV remote. So if my Dell has infared, why does it come with a separate receiver?

That remote may not work with the integrated IR. I read somewhere that the integrated IR is designed only for the Dell travel remote. Even if it does work with it, I still might expect the remote to come with its own receiver because not everyone ordering the remote is going to have the integrated IR.

I know that I don't have the 'right' remote but wouldn't it have made sense for Dell to just have used the integrated IR?
