see all that hate for me and you still got your laptop today. I got mine really early this morning because my mom had something delivered and I answered the door and asked the guy about my laptop. He told me that he wasn't allowed to deliver it before 10:30 by itself but since he had the package for my mom here he was able to. So I got mine at 10 this morning. It's great!!

sorry - i just can't be bothered to read all 35 pages to find the answer to my question . . . do 1420 peeps get the free remote as well? i of course did not order one, but i love free stuff.
-
it depends on what rep you talk to.
Squeaky, the guy explained to me that if they just delivered whatever whenever that they would not get all the packages delivered "on time" meaning if your package was due to be delivered by 10:30 that morning, then they couldn't do it unless they just delivered the ones needing delivered by then. Now I do agree with you that it is quite inefficient if they have 2 packages for the same house, they should be stuck together and delivered together. Otherwise he would have had to come twice. -
i saw on the dell us that they have a dell travel remote, ir is this the same remote this was in the customizing step

My Dell Travel Remote (412-0961) just shipped out today!
-
Yeah, and shortly after I received that phone call, DHL knocked on my door and gave me a Bluetooth remote. How weird is that...
So I still have a travel remote coming tomorrow... -
Hey, that is really cool. Then you can have the BT one when your listening to music and walking around and not directly in front of the machine and then the other for when you are. If you decide not to keep the travel one in lieu of the BT one, let me know, I'd send you $20 for it, just for having both.
-
two?? Hey, I need one :
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=141601 -
ok, now I understand what happened. I copied the link in my email, but it was your link, not this link. Ok what I had originally posted in the other thread was that if he decides to sell i would give up my spot to you.
-
Congrats! I just got mine delivered too Perseverance pays off and I knew we'd ultimately work through this...
But what a long, strange trip it's been!! -
can someone post a pic of the phillips remote?
-
I just received my travel IR remote today as well. Fits great, better than the BT one....but of course, I'd still prefer the BT one.
I'll post up a pic of the travel remote shortly. -
-
just got my remote today the bt one the reps allways say that the part Remote, part # 412-0961 does not exhist for the ir one. How do they order it for u. or where do the look to find it?
-
Also my new work area at home:
-
I'm in chat with someone about the remote right now. I'll let you know how it goes.
UPDATE: Ayup, didn't work. I give up. -
If anyone needs a picture of my packing slip or a picture of the bag showing the Dell Travel IR remote so they may get one from customer service, please let me know.
-
-
bump, any updates people?
-
I spoke to the customer service. They promised me that they will include the remote control in my order for free and then they transfered to another rep and they told me the opposite, that the remote will not included!!! At the end i didn´t know anything surely.
Terrible customer service, one says a thing and another says another thing. This is a big problem and DELL has to take care with that. -
You know, they aren't free. You have to buy them, $15 with your order.
-
Actually, they were free to Canadians and weren't offered to the US. The people who were originally complained about the remote were led to believe by review units that it would be included by default. Now they are offering it on the website and I'm sure no one is going to complain about paying $15 for it, but that's very recent.
-
mine is arriving monday
-
I called and tried to buy one and the rep told me it wasn't compatible with Vista and was a mistake that it even showed up on the page. :\
-
Great News! I just received the coveted dell remote today... DHL was supposed to deliver it yesterday but they screwed up and it went out asa special delivery on Saturday. After about a week of calling dell about two weeks ago I was told by the returns department in oregon that they had found the remote and shipped it for me free of charge using the order info " FW331 Kit,Remote Control,Notebook Mobile 2008,Philips "
As I said, they shipped mine for free and they gave me the remote + $50 cash back in my account for my troubles. "they said they could do this because my laptop was priced over 1100 bucks."
Here some pictures...
After all that time and effort my Dell is finally complete. -
so how do I order one of these, I am not asking for another free one, I just want to buy it, with shipping should send out under $10 I would think. If it's really $3.99. But when I did a search of the FW331 part no: it showed up as 10.99
Edit: I just checked it out, it will cost $16.94 to ship it here. So I guess I will probably order one tomorrow. I love my Bluetooth remote but it would be nice to have a remote I can take with me when I am just carrying my notebook around. The other sticks out to much for me to bag it like that. But I have already used it at home watching movies, and listening to music, it's great. I can move all over my room and adjust volume and songs and.... I am very pleased with it. Now if only it didn't stick out.... -
All I did was call the returns department once I received my laptop and she called tech support to look up the specs on this paticular remote, then they came back with the order number, I waited as she typed up alot of information ( I could here it in the background). Then I received my order confirmation, honestly I think the only way to get this remote is for free.
-
liquid, just call spare parts, and they'll order it for you. it's about 10-15 bucks with shipping. that's what i originally was going to do, but cancelled because i wasn't sure it was the right one. now i'll have it free on monday, but i didn't get a bluetooth one..
-
Kay so...if we get a 1420, will a 412-0961 remote work for it?
I've been reading through the thread and I see a lot of different numbers so I just want to make sure. =) -
no, get the FW331.
I think I will just order it online monk, then I have no wait, I can understand the details, and I can use my 15% off coupon -
Their is no picture. Is that the right one? I tried with several agents to buy the dell travel remote and unfortunately nobody knew WTH I was talking about. I ended up canceling/reordering to add it since the configurator was the only place I could see it. If there is a link to the Dell travel remote on the accessories page I would like to see it. Maybe its easier to add separately now. Or as some say you have to get your notebook first before you can add the remote. There is a analyzer feature on dells replacement parts site that can look at your system and give you replacement parts.. have not tried it but I am thinking maybe the replacement part division is the only place you can find this remote.. If you have a hard time getting a rep to locate the remote I would ask them to look under the replacement parts.. I saw Creative do that once.. Got a IR remote for my nomad 3 from replacement parts since that remote was never sold by itself in the US for the JB3. -
I called and got nowhere with dell. I emailed them and finally got a $50 coupon (for a remote). I know I will still have to pay tax and shipping, but thats only about $10, and I might be able to call in and get the shipping waived. Im happy.
I included an email transcript, in case anyone would like to see it.
My email to dell:
Hi, I ordered an Inspiron 1520. Before I ordered the computer, I read a review that stated that a remote was included with the laptop. I do not find a remote on my invoice. I went to a forum and saw that other people were having the same problem. They called into Dell Customer Care and have been sent a complimentary remote. They said you might need the Part number, which I believe is A0691231. I would like a complementary remote as well.

My response:
Could you please just send the complementary remote to me? I have had a hard time contacting sales, with tons of disconnected calls. I am even considering cancelling my order, because I have had such trouble with all of this.
Let me know if you can help me.
Thank you for your time,
-Jdban
Dells response:
I understand that you wish to receive the Remote. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. I will certainly help you with this concern.
Please be informed that I would like to offer you the coupon for $50 so that you can place the order for the Remote once the order is shipped, I will be able to process the coupon for the $50. If you are ready to accept the coupon reply to me so that I can process the coupon for $50. -
-
I think that $50 coupon could get you the remote, I'd take it in a second.

-
-

-

-
does the E1420 have an IR port? how bout the E1405?
-
I got the other remote... which looks like an actual TV remote. So if my Dell has infared, why does it come with a separate receiver?
412-0781 Remote Control for Media Center 2005, for Inspiron, Customer Install -

You have the wrong remote.
-
-
I know that I don't have the 'right' remote but wouldn't it have made sense for Dell to just have used the integrated IR?
Dell Inspiron Remote, I got it
