Woop. Laptop is in Boxing stage now. Which means I should get a laptop bag in a week, a laptop in a week or so, and maybe maybe the right remote.
-
I know it is receive only and I am counting on that I can transfer data from Polar ulse watch to the laptop.
-
Just got the windows media center 2005 remote (AKA the incorrect one), works well with my old e1505.
-
anyone want to sell their bulky one?
-
Just to let you guys know, my Bluetooth remote came today, and I am very happy with it. Build quality is solid, feels good, and more options then the other. Bonus for me
-
I would just like to say again, I got 2 free remotes. I rule~!
-
Didn't think so... -
That's what I thought, you got nothing to say. Owned.
Dell Travel Remote Control, IR and MEdia Edition Remote -
i think its time to kill this thread
-
I agree, or maybe I should make a new one.
-
dmak: how did u get the ir one? seriously because i have had no luck with 4 depts and 6 diff supervisors now
-
that's fantastic. So enlighten us as to how you got them to send you the IR Media Card Travel Remote? Get it under 412-0961?
-
I really don't know how I got it. I seriously just called in and said this is the wrong remote. The one I am looking for is Dell Travel Remote Control, IR. It fits into the express slot and I think the part number is 412-0961. He put me on hold and came back and told me I have went to check and have confirmed that the part number you given me is the Dell Travel Remote Control. I said can I get it for free, he said one moment please. He came back and told me sure Douglas, but it would have to be after you receive the laptop because you already received a free gift. I said okay, and got case number. That's pretty much it. One more thing, my customer service was Indian and I use the EPP customer service since my order was EPP.
edit: I really don't know whether he is bull ****ting or not, but I have leverage since I was promised one. -
ROFL!! 'promised' you one?? that's hysterical.
Dude, I wish you nothing but the best, but unless you've got that puppy actually delivered or even an order placed, you're screwed. They're telling all kinds of people to "just wait until you receive your laptop and THEN we'll send it to you" but they can't / don't.
Knew that didn't sound right. Who's owned??? lol -
Also, at least I know I will get one. Did they even promise you one? Hmm? -
lol. I repeat: Screw that remote - kill the thread, I'm unsubscribing.
-
I am going to call again in the morning.. I do see the remote now on dells web site dell.com Don't know why I did not see that before. I am beginning to think that the only way to get it is to cancel my whole order and add it in... and back to the end of the line again.
EDIT: I just got of chat with Dell and decided to cancel the order (they can do that on chat but they cannot modify it) I then built a new one with the 300 dollar coupon.. and it came out a few dollars less and that was the exact configuration plus the IR remote. The only problem with this, is I just added another week (or more) for my order.
But I really want the stupid remote now and feel that Dell is so screwed up that everytime you update your order they always put you back in the line anyway.. So I just cancelled and rebuilt the order.. This insanity has got to be the worst aspect of Dell. -

So nobody has actually gotten the correct remote yet right? I mean have it in their hands have it. I talked to dell today and i have a case number, name, email, and oder number ready to go once my lappy ships, i just send an email and get another remote. One problem, he said it works through RF (radio frequency) and not IR like the one i told him about. He says it does stick out of the express card slot a little, but its not bluetooth. I am curious to see how it comes out.
-
At anyrate, I am convinced that the only way to get the stupid IR remote is to configure it on your system... You can either cancel your system or modify your current system to add IR. But either way, your going to the back of the line. -
The only advice I have is if you really want this remote.. you better add it on your system before it ships.. This thing is not listed in any of the accessories that sales have access to. It may be really hard if impossible to get after shipping notebook. I tried very hard with several sales people and a manager to add this.. they could not even find it anywhere except where you build the system.

That is what i was under the impression of too, but i can only go off of what ive read here and what dell tells me. Like i said, i'm pretty curious to see what i get .
There isnt a way to add the remote to your order without canceling it first, and reordering isn't an option to most because the discounts arent the same anymore. -
I think Dell must have lowered the price a bit. Thats why the 300 coupon seems to be the same as the 350 was. Also after applying the 300 dollar coupon it said it expires today, Thurday the 19th....not the 26 like this site says.. Not sure what is up with that but that is another reason I went ahead and did it last night. -
I just tried again....
"In order to include the remote we need to cancel the order and do it again which is going to affect the shipping date. We do not ship it separately." -
ha! what happened to your 'screw the remote, kill the thread' stance?
keep trying! -
I've been on vacation since last week, but my remote was waiting with our apartment manager when I got back. Item #FW331--it fits perfectly in the ExpressCard slot and works via infrared. It has the little Dell logo on it.
-
Gj Stella, how was your vacation? -
-
wooohooo!
1 FW331 Kit,Remote Control,Notebook Mobile 2008,Philips $10.99
old order for the media center 2005 remote cancelled. just placed that one! yeehaw! thank you stella!! +rep to you girl! -
Lol, i think i just got a $50 coupon to purchase a remote, but i never got a number...
I was moved around after calling the number dmak provided and talked to someone who said i would get a $50 coupon to make my purchase, then after another 10 minutes going through other things the call was over and i forgot to ask for the code. I haven't tried to buy yet but they seem rather willing to give you a free remote. Her english was rather poor, and started every other senence with, "How do you say.... uh..." but was very nice.
I am about to try to make a purchase by phone without actually giving the code but rather the case #, otherwise i'll ask for a code # by email.
I'll let you guys know how it turns out, worst case i call again. -
im not sure if you guys actually ordered the remote, cause under the configure "tv tuner&remote control" option it lets you select if you want the remote ordered. either the "remote for vista home premium" or the "dell travel remote control, IR." i came across this to see if could get a free one but the person i talked to told me that if i wanted a remote i had to configure it into my order which i did not.
on a side note i did get a 50 dollar coupon. i called several times and i was able to find one that said i needed "media center" in order to receive a remote. after lots of complaining saying that my vista home premium has media center she said i could have a 50 dollar coupon. LOL -
the whole reason for this thread was that originally that option was NOT offered and we the remote was free at first. Hence the complaining from us early buyers. We wanted our worm too
-
THIS THREAD HAS TO DIE!!!
Mod should close this thread. -
There are lots of people who got screwed out of getting a remote and this thread has helped many get theirs after the fact. If it doesn't affect you and you got your remote, then IGNORE it! You find it perfectly fine to bump threads on things like the endless banter about the differences in video cards (ddr2 / ddr3) which has been beaten into the ground, yet you want this one killed??
can't stand hypocrites. -
Plus you never know who might still find it interesting to see what all is going on, especially when they have been gone a while.
-
Update:
Dell just called me about 30 min ago regarding my order for the Travel IR Remote, part # 412-0961. The rep said that the remote is currently on back order but she sees no reason why it will not ship...eventually. -
-
Anybody know if the remote comes with the Vostro?
I would guess that it doesn't, since it is build for business use. And it doesn't say anything about a remote in my Vostro order. -
Did you see the Travel Remote, IR option when you were configuring it? I should not come by default ( ) since it doesn't come with the inspirons
Update: My laptop has been SHIPPED! YAY!

2-3 days -
Davron, you have way to much time on your hands to have made that....lol. That's cool it shipped though, congrats.

Mine arrived today. WOOP. Of course, apparently dark chocolate / espresso brown is really just black with a bit of brown in certain light.
-
1) Congrats!
2) Jet Black = Better, Cheaper ) -
dark chocolate = no fingerprint marks, and almost black.
-
Yeah... So i got my 1520 and my remote kit and it all works fine. If you search my post from this thread earlier, you will see the part #. People said I got the wrong part # so either:
A. I got the right part #
B. Some people don't know how to properly use the remote.
C. The dell representative managed to realize it was the wrong part # and switch it for me?

Answer D.
You are going to have a hell of a time trying to fit that beast in you express card slot, we are looking for the remote that does, the one that was featured in the reviews, the one that we were under the impression of getting. -
ericstan is right Tooz, we all just wanted the one we were told we would get in every release review of the laptop. It was actually one of the things that made me really happy, and then to find out that we weren't going to get it.... I now have a "better" remote, but I honestly would rather have just gotten what i originally wanted.
It's on the truck for delivery, come to me my yellow sunshiny carrier of many years of enjoyment (talking about the laptop) -
-
I spoke with Customer Service and was told that I was suppose to receive a remote with my Inspiron 1420, but that they had no authority to change the order so I would have to call Order Modification Department. Anybody have any luck calling them?
-
Nope.. the order mod can add the remote back in and also keep all your other discounts etc.. but they will throw you to the back of the line. I ended up canceling my order last week on chat and used the 300 dollar coupon and just built a new system with the remote included. The reason I did this was that the system cost was almost the same and the modify department would have sent me to the back of the line anyway. Just to avoid the pleasure of calling dell modify department I just canceled and recreated the order online. The online chat can cancel orders.. thats about the only thing they are good for. I then called them and told them its BS they make things so hard to add a 11 dollar remote. They told me they would expedite and give me free overnight shipping. Yesterday I called the automated status number and for some reason that number did not work and they connected me to a rep. That rep told me that my order was indeed expedited... I did not tell him it was so there is some hope I may get it sometime before Christmas.. LOL.. Originally I ordered my 1420 on July 5. Ended up with a order date of July 19. I really don't know if there is anything to expediting.. probably tell that to everyone. They really make it hard to modify systems. My advice is get your config set up right the first time to avoid delays.
